Hi I am a 34 year old married mama of 4 beautiful daughters. My husband is a medic who works away so I tend not to go all-out for meals when my kids probably won't eat them. Unfortunately this has unbalanced our diet to more comfort foods and less healthy food. I am worried on rebalancing our diet and teaching healthier eating habits to my girls ❤️

Hi! As a single mom who works full time and homeschool her youngest child, I have tended to make the cheapest, quickest meals possible. The problem is that the cheapest and quickest are not always the healthiest. Now I am trying to revamp not only my cooking, but am trying to encourage the children to eat better, also

Looking forward to getting to know you and to learn more about healthful cooking.

Frozen meals and prepared food are pretty much out of the equation for me, as is food from many of the local restaurants because of food sensitives - both carrageenan (an emulsifier) and sea salt are the most problematic simply because they seem to be in everything. An allergy to iodine isn't much fun either because it cuts out all seafood and is also found in lots of other things (like Caesar salad dressing, teriyaki sauce, pretty much all Asian food out there).

Fortunately, DH and I both like to cook although time is often a problem. (Who says things slow down when one retires?)

My primary goal for this challenge is to get back to cooking really healthy meals instead of relying on things like ordered pizza or picking up tacos on the way home.

Hi all. I recently joined a Biggest Loser Contest. I do not find my eating habits to be horrible, however, I could use a lot of knowledge, as far as, making healthy choices. I feel that once I am able to find a solution to correcting any bad habits I have; my ability to lose weight will be greater. Plus, my body will be thanking me for finally filling it up with fuel it needs.

Good Luck to all of us

I've been cooking all my life. I've just recently started cooking organic, not 100% yet but it's a big start. I'm running out of things to fix so hopefully this will help with some new ideas. I don't really know what to do on here but I guess I'll learn as I go along. Looking forward to so good recipes..

I'm used to cooking more meals at home than not, but now with portion control, looking closer at nutrition, balancing blood sugar, entering everything in the tracker, etc., it feels like I spend all day in the kitchen prepping food or on the computer tracking food. So, this challenge invitation just came at the right second. Hopefully it will work into a time-saving routine.

Joining today! Love to cook, but finding time with a large family and being the kid chauffeur makes it often difficult. Looking forward to focus on cooking healthy meals!

Hi! I just joined this challenge today. I restarted SP a couple of weeks ago after several years away. I was unhappy with my weight and it crept up even more over the winter. I am an "empty nester" and my DH and I recently moved to the St. Louis, MO area (St. Charles), so I need to invest my extra time into healthy activites - I was getting very sedentary. So far, I have avoided most of the health problems that plague the women in my family - adult onset type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and breast cancer- but my blood pressure has been high this year and the Dr. told me I needed to change my diet and exercise more. So here I am! I am looking forward to the motivation and support to eat healthier and plan better meals for myself and DH. emoticon

Just joined the Challenge.

Grew up in a Dairy Queen. Fast food IS comfort food for me. Hubby and I both dislike cooking, cleanup, not having a meal made for us, ... We're crazy spoiled and paying the price for too many years of living this way. Both overweight, Type IIs, multiple meds, plus I have an "orphan disease" that has me on disability. Life isn't great fun just now, and we're trying to break our addictions and learn to live again!

We have a vacation coming up in 3 months. Using that as a mid-term goal. That said, there's donuts in the kitchen. (sigh) We HAVE stopped our weight gain and both of us have lost a little AND dropped our A1c's over the past few months.

We can do this.

Im 39, mom of a toddler, wife (sometimes of a toddler)...and live in Canada!

This is a wonderful challenge - I am learning to love cooking again! This works in really well with my Biggest Loser challenge team where we have nutritional challenges every week. Helps keep me motivated and keep on task! I especially loved the organizing part where it is like I am getting ready for battle!

Awesome!

Hi, I'm new to this challenge. I'm in my 50's and live in Melbourne, Australia. I have 10kg to lose and also want some new ideas for cooking and getting more iron in my nutrition. I have been a member of SparkPeople for 5 months now and during that time I have lost 10kg. For the last month I have been at a constant weight so am looking for ways to lose this last 10kg before starting a maintenance program.

New to the team. I am in my early 50's and have 80 pounds to lose. I actually have been told by my nutritionist that I cook very healthy. My biggest problem is actually that I am not active enough. That being said, I am always looking for ways to eat even healthier so I am excited to see if I learn anything new from this.

My week one completed as well as a day of cooking healthy snacks for the lunches for the week ahead. I also made sourdough breads, cheese, yogurt, and 3 dinners that are now in the freezer and I pre packaged portions of oatmeal and granola for this week's breakfasts as well as prebagged my fillings for hubs and my green smoothies. It's been a busy weekend.

Do not ever let anyone tell you your not good enough. Find within yourself the center that makes you rise above all else and you will find true happiness. Everything else plays second and it all falls into line as it should be.

I'm trying to take a few more steps on the way to health. So far I've been eating really healthy for breakfast and lunch, but supper has me over eating and indulging. I'm hoping that having some accountability and new recipes will help me change some evening habits.

Hello! I've lost 100 lbs (gained a few back over the holidays), but I HATE to cook. I thought maybe joining this group would encourage me a little with my goal to cook more often and make it healthy. My husband has just been diagnosed as diabetic, so I need to do it for us both!

I heard a guy at the gym say, "I don't feel my age. This is why we do this." So inspiring!

Hi! It's my 62nd day with SparkPeople and I'm also a member of SparkCoach Team. It seems that I'm addicted to challenges, just finished Diabetes W/L even though I'm not diabetic, but my husband and my best friend are.
I'm a retired senior person, so obviously I know how to cook but, I'd like to get all the tools necessary to help my determination to acquire a new healthy lifestyle. I'm sure I will learn something here also, and very excited to join.

Hi! My name is Bekah. I've been on Spark since 2010, but didn't get serious about it until last winter. I lost 30 lbs last winter, and became extremely ill in March. (I missed almost 2 weeks of work and was using an inhaler every 2 hours,) with 2 hospitalizations in June and July. I see a lung specialist next month to get to the bottom of why my asthma is not under control. During those months, I gained the 30 back, plus 10. So, my goal is to lose 50 lbs by next July. I want to do this by cooking more and eating out less. This will be extremely difficult. My housing is less than ideal. I do not have a stove/oven. But, I do have a roaster and a hot plate. So, I can do some cooking. I've been making out menus on Fridays or Saturdays and going grocery shopping on Saturday then taking Saturday and Sunday to cook my meals for the week and place them in the freezer for the week. I have found several delicious recipes on Sparkrecipes.com!

new to team, I thought I would be spontaneous by only thinking & purchasing 3 days of food at a time- but just the opposite happens! I hope challenging a menu out of myself and actually sticking to a week l-o-n-g meal plan works for me!

Hi I'm Sharon - I don't like cooking but I am the main cook in our family and cook nearly every night. I like to try different recipes which don't always turn out that great but sometimes I find some great recipes. My husband is borderline diabetic so I'm trying to cook healthier meals that will benefit both of us. Plus my sister-in-law challenged me to lose weight with her and we have been going back and forth on SparkPeople for the last 2 years. It's time to get it done. Good luck to you all on your Healthy Cooking Challenge.

I am Bev, and I am a newbie on this site. I was recently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, so I, too, need to reconsider what and how I eat. My goal is to bring my A1C back in line by the time of my next appointment in November. I already cook home meals for the family about 2x a week, but I wanted to make sure that they (the meals and my family) are as healthy as possible. Thanks for listening and I look forward to being on this site.

I am Mary - I love to cook, but I have Type 2 diabetes so I am having to re-think what I cook and what I use. These healthy makeover recipes look like they will fit in with my food allowances. My problem is not sugar - it is potatoes, pasta and other foods that overindulge in when I eat them

Hello!
I am Kat, and I am new to the team! The challenge sounds interesting, and yes, we all need help and motivation to cook healthier food and have a healthier kitchen!
Looking forward to doing just that!

Hi, I'm not new to spark people but I am new to the team. I eat home more than eating out but tend to grab "quick" meals that I can pop in the microwave when I get home rather than cook for myself. My husband works evenings and my kids usually eat at their grandparents because of my work hours.

One step at a time towards my goals...my success.

Hi! New to Spark People, and this is my first challenge. I started my weight loss journey 5 years ago and did quite well - I lost 84 pounds in 3 years (hitting 3, 6 month plateaus along the way) and then stalled - 2 years not a pound lost or gained. Then I gained 30 pounds back and I'm not sure how or why. I'm following SB and working out 3 times a week and trying to squeeze a walk in on 2 others days. I know a major downfall for me is a lack of time so I'm hoping for lots of tips and tricks to make meal times easier.

So glad I have found this challenge. I didn't think I needed to learn much here, but I am learning lots, and enjoying the challenge. My name is Lesley, and I'm a 56 year old full-time housewife (homemaker) living in the UK with my husband. I haven't interacted too much with the SparkPeople community because I'm a little on the introverted side. But I hope I can be a bit more involved from now on.

Hi! My name is Gloria and I want to do this challenge in order to save time and money by eating healthy. And by doing this to lose my baby weight ;) I'm vegan but I feel I lack enthusiasm in cooking/eating more fresh produce. So...I'm hoping this challenge is right for me emoticon

Hi, I'm Karen. I am going to lose about forty pounds. I decided the best way to do that is to start with my cooking. Looking forward to more veggies first of all.

It looks like the team wall is active and then the different threads for each week of the challenge.

It's not about how bad you want it...it's about how hard you're willing to work for it

Good Morning,

I have used sparkpeople and had success a few years ago. Have put on a few winter lbs that I am looking to lose before summer gets here. So back sparking. I love to cook and try new recipes so this time thought I would join a food group.
What thread is the most active in this group?
Looking forward to getting to know everyone:)
