Hello! I have been on Sparkpeople for almost 2 years and accomplished alot.

Hi Team. Welcome to all new members. I'm a new too. I am in California and for about 4 months in SP, I am in others teams, I started with 205 and I lost 21 pounds. I'm in this Team to learn new tips about food I never try before. For mi is really easy to invent a healthy meal using what is in the pantry, I am not afraid to try new things, like sweet, chilly, sour. I love soups, Fruits and veggies , herbs and spices too. I'm being learning a lot since my first day SP is a Great Site to help all of us. Hi! My name is Amy and I joined this team because (although I do "fairly well") I have to prepare meals that are low in fat, cholesterol, extremely low in salt (as low as I can get to non-existence), low in sugar (my DH is a type 1 diabetic that has had a kidney transplant), low in carbs (well @ least any processed or "white" ones), and now only a total of 71 grams of protein per day (for DH). It is difficult to make menus, find and adapt recipes, and cook/bake/steam/broil, etc. food that look and even taste delicious!
I use organic foods when I can (which is most of the time), I use A LOT of fresh fruits and vegetables, herbs from my garden (indoors and outdoors) and except for this year, frozen, canned, and dried food from my organic garden and from local organic vendors. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
We both are in our 60's, have inherited high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure, and various other health problems from our families. All of this is under control or close which is good since we came from "good" farming families who ate meat and potatoes!

My team goal is to shop smarter and to use up all the food I purchase.

Hiya! Just joined the team. Not sure how it's going to work for me as I am on quite a strict diet (Beat Candida) plus am trying to implement a 4 day rotation diet, plus have recently discovered I have some food intolerances (wheat, oats, corn, yoghurt), but I do hope to at least pick up some healthy cooking tips :-)

Hi Dar.I can see that trying to eat healthy is difficult for you.. It's hard when other individuals are involved in the shopping and the cooking and they eat differently than you do. I hope that you will be able to influence them into eating healthy too.

My name is Darlene but I like to be called Dar cause there are so many of us on other spark teams with the same name.
I use to live in Shelton,WA but when my husband of 32 yrs has passed away in the mid 2005 in Shelton and I now live in Tacoma,WA in a one bedroom apt with my youngest daughter and her husband and their youngest daughter and the older one is in college. I would love to cook for myself but my daughter cooks for all of us and she cooks fatten food and sometime I eat them or you can say most of the time. When I go and get what I want then my son in law tells me you better eat them with in 3 days but I eat what I can. I do eat veggies and fruit but they don't want me to buy to much of them. I also have a lower back problem that really hurts and some times it takes all day to straighten out but once I do I can walk much better. I'm also a christian lady that love to read the Bible and go to Bible study and Church and I'm glad that Jesus died for my sins. So may God bless all of you and have a great day.

Hi, Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm a 24 year old student in Los Angeles and I have struggled with weight since childhood. One big issue for me is that I am a very picky eater and that has made it hard to me to control my weight. I was also never really taught to cook so I have never been comfortable cooking things like meats at home because I worry I am not doing it properly. That is why I joined this challenge, to help myself learn to cook foods that I like and that are healthy in an effort to start slowly reshaping my diet. I look forward to chatting with all of you and learning to cook well at home together!

My name is Melanie. I just wanted to say hi, and introduce myself right quick. I am a member since a while, but never really startet. I am trying to change all now. Change type of nutrition, get rid off emotional eating, get more active etc. Just getting more sexy and healthy as I already am. :-) I am 35 years old 5'3 tall and walking around with 176 pounds. Which is too much for my height. My main goal is to get a tone up and get more comfortable with myself.

I am excited and motivated to finally start and finish my project. I can't wait to learn all the new things and give motivation and receive motivation during my lows.

I wish you all well, and hope you'll keep on being focussed. We only have one life, so why should we not make the best out of it? And that day by day?!

I lost 76 lbs in 2010 with SparkPeople! Then I was hit by a truck on my bike and due to rehab, not being able to control my own diet and inability to ride my bike I pretty much gained it all back. I lost it mostly due to being very focused in Grad School, earning a degree promoting healthy diet is a serious motivator, btw. I lost some of that weight again, then I joined the Peace Corps and went to Liberia. I am sadly back, and unmotivated, depressed and frankly at a loss to the next step. I thought that joining this challenge would at least motivate me, it is something I used to do, so why not slowly put it back into my life. So I have signed up for a CSA and have found a few farmer's markets, but the motivation is still at the tipping point. It does not help that we moved to Sacramento from the only home I have ever truly loved in Seattle. Not only did we move, we moved into an area that I can only describe as hell. At the end of month we are moving into a new place, one with tennis courts, a pool and a sense of community. It also helps that it is located right on the American River bike trail and the river is in our back yard. So hopefully a new location will lift my dark cloud and improve my motivation!

Hi! I have been battling this weight thing for years! I have finally revamped my life to cooking fresh meats and vegetables but my allergies are off the charts during the summer months, and I have gained 10 pds taking Benedryl! I am currently trying to learn how to control my allergies naturally, so I will not continue to gain weight because of my medicine! I have stopped and started so many times, but this time it is going to be different because my mindset is on the future in Yahushua (Jesus) and not the past! I believe cooking healthy foods will help my allergies, and I look forward to learning how to cook more meals to switch it up a little. I look forward to growing with this group as we all meet our goals!!

The cottage pie I made last week 600kcals in per portion! With a stupid amount of saturated fat! I am horrified! And don't even get me started on the lasagne I make!
