as I said earlier any movement helps to burn calories but feel that intensity of mall walking may not be enough to track

While the goal is to get 10 minutes per day the discussion of if it can be done in a mall should probably continue. I know several people who go to the mall not to shop but to walk as it gives them a public venue protected from the elements and sometimes and element of safety. If you are walking and window shopping perhaps the answer is no. If you are there and moving your way past the windows for 10 minutes then perhaps it actually does count.

Again, while the goal is to fit it in...ultimately you have to decide where, when and the exertion level of the exercise. Lots of article on what it takes to count as exercise (elevated heart rates etc). As for house cleaning - I agree that it perhaps shouldn't count as exercise but there are ways to add a level of difficulty into it and challenge yourself like walking lunges while vacumming etc.

My random 2 cents.

I learned to get my exercise done early. My hubby goes towork at 5 am so I start my bike riding at 6 am after I do al my homeowrk for the week. Then after my bike ride I start house cleaning and I dance while cleaning. After son goes to school I lift weights, swim, and stretch. Then treadmill for ten minutes to cool down. WHen hubby gets home from work in the evening we exercise together.

I agree, NASFKAB. It all counts in overall calories burned, but not for this exercise challenge.

Blessings,

Marie Anne

Yes, you count all calories burned if you're talking about taking in less than what you're burning, but that's not what this exercise streak is about. If you count doing things that you normally do every day, how is that a challenge?

The challenge is to exercise 10 min every day to get in the habit of fitting it in.

Wow. Good topic. I can't wait to hear what others say. I thought that we added up all activities ( calories burned) we did in a day....which is measured against the calories we consumed. Wonder how we can find out for sure?

I've heard different. If you're doing more housework or more shopping than normal, then perhaps, but I believe SparkGuy said in an earlier msg that you shouldn't count things that you normally do every day.

The idea is to get in the habit of doing something EXTRA for 10 min every day.

Blessings,

Marie Anne

Absolutely. All activity counts. And I'm sure you get more than you realize. Wear a pedometer....you will be amazed at how many steps you take doing housework and running the kids around. Good luck...

I alwasy complain i dont have time to work out, joining gym is a watse of money cos i dont have time to go, between 2 jobs , and 3 kids and my loving partner, i lead a busy life. I do thnk 10 minutes is doable and i am anxious to try. Does other activities count? like walking around the mall or doing housework?
