In my opinion, it is always the best choice to prepare your own foods from fresh ingredients. As others have mentioned plans like Nutrisystem do work, but they teach you nothing about how to eat properly on an on-going basis.
Since I totally love salads, I buy the gargantuan sized organic mixed lettuce at Costco and have at least one large salad every day. I just mix up what I add to it from day-to-day to keep it interesting and vary the calorie & nutrition content to adjust for the other foods I'm eating that day.
For me, I can never eat too much green salad! :D
