Hi i am sorry for being MIA the last 2 wks my nephew has been sick so i have volunteered to help take care of him while my sister and her husband try to get themselves well too.

Hi and welcome to all the new members that have joined SP in the last few weeks. My name is Carrie and when i started my journey on SP i think i was about 235-240. I now range anywhere from 186-188 pounds and would like to get to 165.
I have lost a total of 20-30 pounds working the sparkpeople.com program. Total weight loss on my journey before signing up with SP is 50 pounds. I have 21 more pounds to go to get to my ultimate goal.
I now how frustrating it can be but i will be happy to walk beside all of you and help you through this battle

Here are a few sites you can go to that will help you manage your way through SP site.

Please don't let this Stress you out by being fixed on the #s to lose. As was posted, drink the water as the first step. Once you've done that, than track your food.

Now I ALSO hate to excerise. So it's important to make it as FUN as you can. Is there anything you enjoy? I like to dance so aerobics with a DVD are my thing cos of the music. I enjoy the Richard SImmons cos of the music (My era LOL) and that passes away the time before I even realize it. On youtube are a TON of things you can explore to find that you might enjoy. Kickboxing? Rollerskating? (I do this with the grandkids, though I am NOT good at it, it counts). Just find what YOU enjoy. Most of all have FUN with this. If your not enjoying it will become "work" and no one enjoys that.

it's extremely overwhelming at first. Try not to fixate on the amount you have to lose; take baby steps and in the long run you'll be more likely to stick to the plan. All the best of luck to you!

Hi and welcome to the Team! I agree, start out slow. Try a few exercise routines per week that they have on the site. There are many that are 10 minutes. Drink your water. Check out the nutrition menu to see what they have. Good luck on your weight loss journey. We are all here to support and keep you motivated.

That's a great post. I'm older and I do feel over-whelmed at times. I like you three simple ideas.. I'm going to try them. I didn't think anyone hated exercise as much as me. I'm just lazy.

start here.

I've been on the rollercoaster for years and have learned a couple of things about myself and weightloss.

As much as I want to lose it ALL RIGHT NOW - all I end up doing is tiring myself out.

What I'm doing and what I know WILL WORK for me is this:
1) Drink water. Lots of water. Keep track of how much water I drink, then drink more. Everytime I'm thirsty. No soda. Nothing with sugar in it.

2) I'm lazy. I hate exercise. So I'm doing the 10-minute challenge. If I can't manage 10 minutes of SOMETHING - then I'm not ready to make the necessary changes. I live in an apartment complex and a walk around it is approx 10 minutes. I take my poor overweight dog with a bad hip on the walk. It forces me to take care of her and it also allows me to take it slowly. And it's only 10 minutes. I can work anywhere from 9 to 16 hours in a day and am a single mom. Even I can find 10 minutes. You can too. Just walk. It'll be more than you're doing right now.

3) Use the nutrition guide on this site and log what you eat. All of it. No matter what it is. Don't try to change all your eating habits until you know what they are. By forcing yourself to account for everything you put into your mouth you will start to eliminate some of it.

It's a start. Maybe slow - but it's a way to get started without being overwhelmed. Plus you are doing the 3 things you need to do to lose the weight and keep it off:
Drink Water
Move
Monitor food intake

That's it. You'll start to notice changes. And when you're ready - you can start to up your movement and change your eating habits once you have established a baseline.

You can do this and everyone here will help you meet your goals!
