I have arthritis too, and undifferentiated connective tissue disease, one that mimics but isn't lupus...(thankful for small favors! LOL)

"The real secret of success is enthusiasm..." thanks, Walter P. Chrysler. I believe it. That's what I want in my life--to give my imagination a chance, to live with energy and enthusiasm!

Ralph Waldo Emerson said 'Life belongs to the energetic.' But you don't have to be frenetic and hyper--some energy is quiet and steady, like a heartbeat... and that works too! LOL

Life comes in specific increments, which we receive as a gift of one moment at a time. That's why it's called

Hello Karen! It's nice to meet you. I'm in Florida. I was dx-ed w/ fibro April 2012, but have had it for a long time, probably since my early 20s (I'm turning 50 9/25). I think it's great that you're still teaching, but I bet it is very very hard every day. What do you do for exercise? I started walking and did great for 4 weeks, felt soooo much better! But then I hit a flare and it's been 6 weeks since I've been able to walk like that. But I'm gonna get back to it soon!!! Gentle hugs!

Maybe they gave you the Duragesic in a strength that was too weak for you. I have the patches in 50 mcg, and I change them every two days instead of every three, because they didn't last three days for me. They come in 25, 50, 75, and 100 mcg. You really have to communicate with your doctor when something isn't working and ask if it comes in a stronger strength, or if there's something similar that will work better.
Have you tried soaking in a hot tub with epsom salts? That really helps!!!

Maslin, I know this is a very long list of articles, but it is everything I've accumulated on Fibromyalgia since I started with Spark People. It should give you just about everything you you want to know about Fibro and Chronic Fatigue. Almost every article has links to take you elsewhere for more information. I hope you don't get discouraged before you get through this. You can save these articles too by copying and pasting the page headings on the page "MY SPARK POINTS" under the heading "Do A Spark People Web Search." Click on "SEARCH NOW", and on the left side of that page, see MY LINKS. Click ADD LINK, copy and paste the header from the article you want to save and then copy and paste the name of the article in the second space, then hit save. I don't know if there's a limit on how many you can save there, because I have about a zillion and haven't reached any limit! I hope this has helped you.

Huh, I have low thyroid too. I considered it the least of my worries. How do you do it? Over twenty years? I just want to well...I think you know the feeling. A lot of meds I can't take cause they cause suicidal thoughts and I don't need the help. I don't like waking up screaming and I did today so I am a little cranky. Sorry.

To be honest, I know very little about this disease. I feel like I was labeled and dropped. Any advice?

I forgot to say I have the durelgesic (sp?) as well but it doesn't seem to help much.

Yes Maslin, I have arthritis along with Fibromyalgia, as well as Hashimoto's Thyroiditis(underactive thyroid) which is another autoimmune disease. I've had Hashimoto's the longest(since childhood, then arthritis(since early twenties), then Fibromyalgia(since mid twenties). I am now sixty-one. I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome along with the Fibro. I was told that once you have one autoimmune disorder, it opens the door for many others to come on in. Whoopie!

I don't know why your doctors don't want to give you medications. I take a couple the really help me. I tried Lyrica, but had a severe allergic reaction. I currently take Topamax at 200mg twice a day. It does have side effects, but it REALLY helps with allover pain. It makes me forget words I want to use when I'm talking, something like Fibro-fog, and I've had some hair thinning, but not anything like bald spots. I also Duragesic pain patches. For the arthritis, I take Celebrex at 200mg twice a day and Plaquenil at 200mg twice a day. I also use topically Pennsaid liquid(on my knees mostly, but also my hands & feet when needed).

I am so sorry to know there are this many people who hurt. I was thinking, By the way I've been treated I thought it must be rare. I know you don't want sympathy, but I am sad for all of you.

I'm Maslin, six years into it, every type of specialist and no medication they want to give me. Ive got a really bad case of the woes are me today. Does anyone have arthritis added to their bill?

There will be an answer, let it be.

Welcome!

FibroFog is a real pain, isn't it? Sometimes I don't know how well I can think and I'm not over stimulated by a class full of children.

Actually, I'm not sure that statement even made sense so I'll just say again,

Welcome.

Hello all! I'm glad I found this group. I'm Karen and I live in KS. I was diagnosed with fibro about 8 years ago. I've learned to live with it for the most part but hate it. I teach, which I enjoy, but I hate the school year because it takes so much out me.

Right not it's Friday and I've had students for the past 2 1/2 days. This is the third time I've started this intro but my brain is just not functioning! So for now I'll say hello and I'm looking forward to getting to know you all!
