Losing weight without being able to be More active is extremely difficult - duh, I think you've figured that out. Chair exercise and anything in the water will help increase your activity without hurting your sciatica or aggravating the fibro. To lose weight without exercising, you must watch everything you put in your mouth. Staying within your calorie range but not going below it is important because eating too little puts your body in starvation mode and you'll store everything as fat. Try eating 5 small meals a day with protein at every meal. Eat food as close to its natural state as possible...no refined carbs like breads, crackers, chips, rice and no sugar except as it occurs naturally in your food. I lost 40 pounds that way.

Welcome to the team Joan. I was once in your shoes. About 10 years ago or so. And two things 1) Recovery yoga is fantastic. If you can find a class it can really help because the teacher modifies poses for your condition. I could do all poses without needing to get on a floor. My local Y had a deeply discounted membership and I took the class once per week and it was a lifesaver. 2) Do what you can. The first time I took a walk I could only walk out my door and around the corner. It hurt because I knew that I was really in bad shape. I remembered a woman on Oprah who was overweight and could only walk to the mail box and back. She was walking 2-3 miles a day and had entered some races. She was my motivation. Everyday, I'd walk a bit farther than I had the previous day and over time I could walk more.

Hi Joan, Welcome to the team. I am not one to say alot about losing weight as I have trouble in that area. I do keep plugging away it. There are alot of exercise videos where you can do them from a chair. This might be a start for you.

Hi Everyone-- I would love to hear from someone that can lose weight and not be able to exercise much for I have Lots of Back Pain from a Sciatic nerve problem and Fibromyalgia etc. Lose sleep and cant walk far. I have everything a Doctor can give me. Any help would be wonderful. Joan
