I gained 15 pounds in a day and a half. And I'm diabetic with kidney disease. My doctor yanked me off it SO fast...

We're all different, so you just have to try things--but I got tired of feeling like a guinea pig and ending up in the ER so many times from reactions! I don't any more. I take Vicodin (half doses twice a day, an extra whole tablet if needed) and use meditation and biofeedback techniques, heat, ice, etc., to deal with the symptoms...

My best friend? Exercise. Especially stretching. Hurts like you-know-what, but even on bad days I do SOME... it's "use it or lose it," y'know? LOL

You'll find out what works for you... emoticon emoticon

"The real secret of success is enthusiasm..." Walter P. Chrysler said it, I believe it. That's what I want in my life--to give my imagination a chance, to live with energy and enthusiasm!

Ralph Waldo Emerson said 'Life belongs to the energetic.' But you don't have to be frenetic and hyper--some energy is quiet and steady, like a heartbeat... and that works too! LOL

Life comes in specific increments, which we receive as a gift of one moment at a time. That's why it's called t

Rottlady, considering the dose of Lyrica you were on it is no wonder you were having side effects. The makers themselves found that benefits did not outweigh the risks after 450mg. You can read it in their literature, but I first learned that from my rheumatologist. I've been at 300 for a long time (6 years) and never over that amount (i've, among other things, neuropathy, carpal and tarsal tunnel - that cause me tremors and fibro, I'm sure you have other things too - just wanted to let you know this isn't coming from someone who could not understand). I, rarely - my choice- use other pain meds to deal with the worst days. I wonder if you can find a better, more informed doctor to treat these problems more safely. If you can, please change doctors; this person is allowing meds to make you more ill despite the very makers of Lyrica pointing out that side effects outweigh the very limited to no improvement seen after 450. Please, please, seek a new doctor - preferably a rheumatologist. There's probably a local support group for Fibro, or even national that keeps a bank of recommended docs from people who've had success. One last thing, have you tried the much less expensive Neurontin? I have problems with dizziness and it worsened them, so I couldn't continue with it; but it sure helped. Best to you!! Melanie

Hippiegurl, I hope all goes well with your knee pain. Fibro seems to make every pain more difficult than most people's it seems. I think you're rally smart to try to wean yourself off the daily stuff. Maybe it will get to the point when your knee only acts up when the fibro's bad or you've done some small injury to it. I know, too, so I hope you don't mind me not sugar coating things. We have this and we just have to deal with it the best we can. My fibro actually receded for quite a while when I did nothing (CFS), but that has not been good for my health. I can't take anti-inflammatory meds regularly due to kidney disease; however, the Lyrica daily and occasional pain meds help me. Hope you find a balance just right for you. Sincerely, Melanie

I take Topamax for fibro and the only real side effect I can see is dry mouth. It works wonderfully for me. I started taking it after a total knee replacement sent fibro pain in my right leg through the roof. It was so bad that I was sitting home, crying day after day and my surgeon would not work with me at all with pain meds. When I tried to work with his nurse over the phone, I heard her cover the phone with her hand and say to someone else in the office, "that's why the Dr doesn't like to do fibro patients!" and tried to send me to a pain clinic that didn't take my insurance. I finally ended up working with my rheumatologist, who gave me Topamax, Pennsaid which is a topical anti-inflammatory, Flector anti-inflammatory pain patches for the knee, and pain pills until the most severe pain subsided, then I got Duragesic pain patches, which I'm still using. The surgery was in late September of 2011 and I'm STILL on all of the medications. I'm seeing the Dr soon and will ask him to reduce the Topamax by half because the worst of the pain is gone and the dry mouth is driving me a little nuts right now.

I have been on Lyrica for a fairly long time and I am not aware of any side effect I have had. I take 150mg in the evening and 75mg in the AM which had been added in Dec. I had considered having the levels increased again as I have a lot of burning pain as well a neuropathy in my feet that hasn't changed. I may not ask to increase but look at a pain med. instead. Thanks for the heads up!!

I couldn't take Lyrica. I was on it 4 days and I guess it took that long for it to build up enough in my system to cause a massive allergic reaction. I had swelling of the lips, tongue, gums, sinuses, throat, and I thought I was going to die! I called my Dr first thing in the morning and left a message with all my symptoms and they never got back to me til after office hours. Nice, eh? Told me to stop taking it immediately.....really?? Then flushmy system with lots of water and take double doses of Benadryl every 4 hours. Oh, and I gained 8 pounds in 4 days!!!

I have had such great results being on Lyrica. The weight gain has been difficult and trying to get the weight to drop even harder. I used to be at 300 mg total a day then 450 and NOW to control fibro, neuropathy and tremors I am at 600.Well my breath changed, then my mouth both teeth and gums started to hurt. Find out Lyrica has a little know side effects of oral problems. I have has an infection that I have gone through three different antibiotics and now wait for appointment with an Oral specialist. I got some basic dental coverage since after becoming disabled I went on a limited SSDI and lost all coverage but Medicare and a supplemental that cost more then I can afford. Lyrica works but there are so may hidden side effects!
tell me about yours?
