Laura, tell your friend that pacing is the key to controlling fibromyalgia symptoms. That and good sleep.

Here's a story that circulates periodically about "invisible illnesses". It's about lupus but you can insert any other illness you want.

Thank you both. I've done a lot of research off this site already but was interested in more personal experiences rather than the medical sites I've been reading. My girlfriend jokes that I know more about her condition than she does.

Thank you for joining our team and for wanting to help your friend appropriately.
I see from your sparkpage you have been a member of sparkpeople for sometime so you do not need the regular welcome beginner tutorial ideas.
Your friend is lucky to have a supportive friend. I would suggest besides exploring the health conditions sections you go to team page and scroll down the list of topics and posts and start slowly learning about this symptom -fibromylagia!

Hello, my name is Laura (waits for the chorus of "hi Laura"s). I actually don't have fibro but someone I love does and I'm trying to help her get a handle on it. She can't take medication so I've been doing a lot of research on alternatives for her.

Her major symptoms are sleep issues, occasional loss of appetite/nausea, obviously the pains, the occasional rash. Those are the big ones. She takes about 3 hot baths a day to keep herself warm to help with the pain as well.

We helped the pain levels a good deal recently just by her cutting diet soda out of her diet. She said her pain went from a 9 to a 5 from that alone.

Any other suggestions through diet or any other non medicinal means, on how to help her with this?

Or even sites that I can go to with more "at home" remedies.
