"The real secret of success is enthusiasm..." thanks, Walter P. Chrysler. I believe it. That's what I want in my life--to give my imagination a chance, to live with energy and enthusiasm!

Ralph Waldo Emerson said 'Life belongs to the energetic.' But you don't have to be frenetic and hyper--some energy is quiet and steady, like a heartbeat... and that works too! LOL

Life comes in specific increments, which we receive as a gift of one moment at a time. That's why it's called

Hi everyone I am new to this team & was recently diagnosed with probable fibromyalgia. I had a lot of numbness & tingling in arms & legs for years which worried me, I always seem to rationalize my minor aches & pains away ,but after several years & a few MRI's later here I am.While I didn't want it to be a debilitating illness I always skipped over fibromyalgia because it was a condition that doesn't always have a firm diagnosis. After many years of struggling & being told we can't find anything I really wan't the Dr's to hand me an X-ray ,a blood test or anything that says you are not crazy, we found what is causing all your problems. Well as you all know that didn't happen. To make along story short I'm hear to learn & share about being being healthy through diet & exercise. After a lot of soul searching I finally started to take control of my life, it hasn't been easy ,but it has been soooo worth it. looking for ward to hearing form everyone!!

Tammy, when I used to work, I worked in front of a fan, too. But I thought it was hot flashes. I'm still on Cymbalta and have started taking Estroven for the hot flashes. It works great - for me.

I'm still struggling with my weight because I crave sugar - especially when I get tired. I find that when I keep track of all the food I eat on My Nutrition page here, I think twice at night of having ice cream or a bunch of cookies.

My sleep? It doesn't exist. I go to sleep around 9:00 p.m. and wake up every hour beginning around 2:00 a.m. I finally give up and get out of bed at 5:00 a.m. I try to take a nap each day around noon, but that doesn't always happen. I take trazodone before bed, but it gets me to sleep, doesn't keep me asleep.

I take Ultracet for my pain but it's extremely constipating, as most pain meds are. So I add Benefiber to my morning coffee and prunes to my breakfast.

Hope all this helps.
Nancy

Nancy,

Thank you for the information. I was on Cymbalta all this last year and it was one of the meds that really messed me up. I had so many side effects from it. I had to get off of it. It definitely helped with pain...oh my word, now that I am off of it the pain is coming back with a vengeance. But I guess I had to choose which "evil" to put up with. I was overheating all the time, to the degree that even when it was freezing, I had to sit in front of a fan (even on my desk at work) or I literally would begin sweating. I gained over 70 lbs. and I hardly ate...one of my doctors said that it was from the Cymbalta. I couldn't sleep...the list goes on. I am so glad it works well for you though.

I have been doing a lot of reading and getting together a plan for myself. I definitely look forward to everyones input. I have not heard of the other two meds you mentioned, I will look into those.

thank you again and have a good night :)

Tammy, there are some meds that are especially for fibromyalgia: Cymbalta, Lyrica, Savella. I wouldn't recommend the last two, but I've been on Cymbalta for five years now and wouldn't be without it.

Other meds, if you haven't tried them are Klonopin and Flexeril. But you know your body and what you can tolerate.

I also take lots of supplements. The first one I started was a combination of magnesium and malic acid. People with fibromyalgia are also deficient in B12 and D3. They're fine as long as you stick with the FDA daily dosage.

Do your own research. Read, read and read some more. And check out our Reading Room in the General Discussion forum.

Oh yes, and emoticon

Hello, I too am a new member. It was so encouraging to just get on here and realize that there are others who are dealing with the same issues as myself. Please do not take that wrong, I definitely do not WISH the pain and inconvenience Fibro. adds to life on anyone. Just a comfort to know that there are others out there that can truly understand. This disease is one that unless you deal with it, you cannot understand it. After years of health issues and a 2011 that was full of nothing but specialists, surgeries and medications; I have found myself with the Fibromyalgia diagnosis and a body that is in the worst shape of my life! I was on all kinds of meds that had horrible side effects and made me feeling worse than ever. So against the advice of my doctors, I weened myself off of all the medicines (took some time, and please don't have try to go cold turkey...i did that too and got extremely ill) and am going to face this thing head on through diet, exercise and hopefully encouragement. I have been researching these issues and am hoping to find the right combinations for me. Thank you for letting me be a part of your team. I hope I can get to know some of you better soon. Happy New Year everyone!
