emoticon Am hoping this team will help speed me along the road to recovery - right now. I'm at a slow walk but at least am moving and not limping any more emoticon Had my right hip joint replaced on Aug. 22. Surgery was stressful but successful- couldn't have asked for better surgeon or care in the hospital - being at home has its challenges but being able to sleep and move around without pain helps me ignore the dust and dirty dishes.

Hello Everyone - I am really glad I came across this team. I have been a member of Spark People for years - almost since the beginning - and have gone through lots of changes since Day 1. I have lost about 20 lbs. over this time but have never reached my goal. I was doing very well - finally had the mindset where it needed to be - and then bang! My hip started giving me more and more pain and it put the kibosh on most exercising emoticon . I have severe arthritis in my hips but the right one is the one that is giving me the big problem. My dad had arthritis in his hips and I have read it is somewhat hereditary, but I honestly believe when I fell flat on my back on a tile floor in 2011, the trauma of that fall opened the door for this arthritis to set in. Anyway, after suffering with this hip pain for 3 years - and it is excruciating at times - I have decided to get a hip replacement. I had two flouro-guided hip injections and they are nothing but a band aid. The first shot I had took two weeks to kick in and lasted almost 6 months before the pain started getting bad enough to make me take pain medication in order to sleep at all. Now I had a shot on Aug. 1 and it took almost 3 weeks to kick in and it wasn't nearly as effective as the first shot. The Orthopedic surgeon told me that the shots get less effective each time. I might also add that these shots are painful so, I'm at the point where I'm ready to listen to the people I know who have had hip replacements and get it done. Actually, I haven't met one person who has had it done who isn't glad they had the procedure and most wonder why they waited, in pain, for so long emoticon . I'm going to have to wait until after the New Year to get it done but I've waited this long so I know I can wait a few more months.

If anyone has had any good experiences with hip replacement, I'd love to hear about it. I say "good experiences" because I don't want to be discouraged. emoticon I miss the quality of life I had. I loved going walking and hiking with my DH and I can't do that at all now. I do water walking but I want to be able to walk on Terra frima without all the pain again. emoticon Mostly, I'm just sick of not sleeping without waking up every hour because I have to change positions from the pain. I'm tired of missing out going places because I'm having a particularly bad day with the pain. I'm tired of limping every time I get up out of a sitting position - at church, at work, at the nail salon, just getting out of my car - every where emoticon I'm sounding off and getting long-winded emoticon

I will really appreciate any support the team can provide and hope I will be able to help others also. emoticon

Hi! My name is Helen. I am 54 soon to be 55 years of age. I am schedule to have bilateral total knee replacements done on Sept. 8th. Back in May I had the right knee scoped it did not help. I am a care giver to my Mom who is 88. So, I know that did not help matters out. This time I have paid for my sister to come stay with Mom while I am in the hospital and rehab. I currently am working 4 hours a day 5 days a week.

Hello there, I am Krystin but please call me Krys.

I am 41 years old and attempting to lose weight after being sedentary for 23 years. I've tried to loose weight before but it is difficult to do that when you can't walk. As a teenager I developed Rheumatoid and Osteoarthritis. Over the years it gradually progressed into Chondrolysis (a deteriorating bone disease). By the time I was 35 had turned into to Avascular Necrosis (Bone Death). My physicians refused to perform surgery because of my age and treated my condition with steroids and pain relievers which caused other medical complications, including Crohn's Disease.

Thanksgiving week of 2013 I finally underwent a surgical procedure during which I received metal replacements. Although the doctors said it would take up to a year in a half to heal completely, I must loose weight in order to increase the longevity of the new prosthesis.

The surgery was a life changing event not meant to be taken for granted. I can't begin to explain how my quality of life has improved.

Welcome Donna. I had two knee replacements in 2013 and the second one is giving me fits. Hurts mainly at night if I sleep too long at a time.

Hi my name is Donna and I live in Northwest Ohio. I just had my second right knee replacement six years apart. The first one 'came lose' and during the surgery I had to have a completely different knee put in that is a hinge knee vs an anatomically correct one. The ligaments on both sides of my knee basically degenerated. I had this done on May 23. I am back to work already and doing fairly well except for some swelling. I am still in PT but have a really good bend 106 degrees so far while lying flat with a 0 degree flat, sitting is 115 degrees already. I am looking forward to being able to share my own journey as well as learn new things in this group. ~ Donna

emoticon Donna, you have quite a task before you, don't you. You can do it though! The weight loss is difficult but you have a huge motivation, the knee surgery. Once you lose some weight and have the surgery, a new world will open for you. You are young so the chances are that you will be able to be entirely pain free after the surgery. It takes time and PT is never fun but you are going to be so pleased once you realize that you are on your way to being healthy and more fit. I'm 67, so 43 seems like the age of a youngster to me. You don't want to live with pain all your life and there is so much you can do when you feel well.

I am more active now than I was at 50 because by then my knees were bothering me a lot and my weight wasn't helping. At that time the doctors urged patients to wait for knee replacements until they were over 60. Even after I turned 60 they wanted me to wait but I said, "Doctor, most women in my family don't live much past 70. These may be my last active years and I want the surgery NOW". Well, amazingly, he had absolutely no argument after that.

It is 11:57am, not even noon yet and my fitbit says I have walked over 8000 steps! That is unusually high but I went for a really long, pain-free, walk this morning. There are very few things I cannot do. My doctor adamantly says "NO!!" to running so I don't do that but most other things I do, including climbing on playground structures with my grands.

How wonderful that you have been given this goal! I wish I had known at age 43 how important it was for me to get moving. It seemed everything I enjoyed involved sitting.

Continue to exercise the leg as much as you are able; the stronger the muscles are, the faster you will recover from surgery. If you can't exercise that leg, exercise the other one so that it can stay strong. Do upper body excercises too, just move your arms a lot, every day; use small weights if you can, even a couple of soup cans can work. All movement burns calories and doing it every day can up your metabolism. Find a diet you think you can work with.

I have been a member of TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) for 8 years. Studies have shown that it is as effective as Weight Watchers and much less expensive. There are even TOPS teams on SparkPeople. Weight Watchers, of course, is also an excellent program; just much more expensive. At TOPS you can use whatever diet works for you or you can use their recommended exchange diet. You have a lot of room to explore and find your way to a healthy weight. Some people count calories, some count points, some go low carb, and some even switch programs when they hit a plateau. You will find so much personal support at TOPS meetings and I'm sure you will also find members who have had the knee surgery!
Check out TOPS Club online to find a meeting near you.

Long winded aren't I? I'm sorry, I probably just have said:

WELCOME TO THE TEAM!!! emoticon

Hello my name is Donna. I am a 43 year old wife and mother of three boys. I started having pain in my knees a couple of months ago. On the 20th of May I ended up in the ER, when my left knee gave away while walking. At first the x-rays showed a bone chip. Made an appointment with the orthropedic doctor. A MRI was done on June 18th. Went back to the doctor on 19th, and found out that I have to have a left total knee replacement. The doctor wants me to lose 50 pounds before we do the replacement.
Joined this team,so In can get advice and support. Want to meet people who have gone through replacements, want to hear your stories.

emoticon I had two TKE's last year one in March and the other in October. My last one still hurts some but it is better than before I had it. Your therapy will be painful but it is important so you can get your knee bent properly. I had a very good therapist and all doctor's comment on the good bend I have. I have been driving for a long time now.
I quit taking the pain pills with the narcotics when I started driving as I didn't think it was safe so just take a couple of Tylenol extra strength before sleeping.
Go for it. Be sure you have a good surgeon. I only have little white lines down where he cut my knees.

Welcome, Cassie! You'll find lots of support and good information here. Yes, there is pain but it won't be worse than what you have been living with. My replacement was three years ago and I have never regretted the decision to have it done. I couldn't have gone on much longer the way it was and now I have no pain and have been walking two miles a day for the past couple of years. Everyone is different but the surgery has advanced even since I had mine and the doctors can control the pain. The most important thing is to follow orders, and to never skip your "at home" exercises. They are important along with your visits with the PT.
You'll do fine! emoticon

GEEK you have done marvelous. A knee replaced in October and one in December.
I had one replaced in April of 2013 and one replaced in October of 2013. I am having more trouble with my second one but have a good bend. Of course you are 30 years younger than I.

You are right, take it slow. Keep exercising. Take all the PT you can get. My knee replacement was 3 years ago today and I can fully bend it, can be on my knees for a short time, and can walk for miles. I don't try to walk or jog because my doctor doesn't want that but I know a few people who can jog or run short distances. I could but I am very conscious of not messing this up. The most important thing is that the artificial knee has just become "my knee" - it just feels natural. I would say I was still progressing right up to the two-year mark.
You are brave to get them both done in surgeries so close together!

Hi I had one knee replaced in Oct 2014 and the other in Dec 2014. I was back to work by mid Jan (desk job mostly).
I have lost 54 pounds since Jan 2013 working hard at it.. and from size 22 to size 16!

I lost 25 lbs between the two surgeries and it helped recovery immensely..what a difference.

I find the suggestions for quick fix exercises keep saying "be careful not to twist your knees" well I am not even going NEAR those activities!!

Are we developing resources/exercises for further into recovery--POST PT??

Glad to be a resource and encouragement to those who are thinking about or going thru knee surgery or recovery.

Who am I? I am Kathy (Geek goddess0, 55 years old, live in FL and am a professor.

It is exciting to walk and move again..but be prepared this is the LONGGG haul recovery 6-12 months-- they are not kidding!

Thanks

Penny, you are going to do well. Recognizing that your weight loss will help your hip last longer is a great step towards all-over good health! Remember too that joint prostheses last much longer now than they probably did when your grandmother had her replacement.

Give it time and you'll be amazed to find that you don't even think about that hip. Knees are a bit more troublesome and I'm not surprised that Irene has had a longer recuperation with her second one. It is hard on a body to have two huge surgeries in 8 months. Irene (DIDMIS) rocks though-she is tough and faith-filled and she will be doing a happy dance by summer!

Hope you will be doing one too!!

Thank you, DIDMIS! I hope mine lasts but I know if I get the weight off that it will help. My grandmother's lasted over 15 years. She needed a new one but she was in her 90's and they didn't want to risk putting her under. The docs told me that the 2nd replacement would be harder. I know the knees are a longer recovery time.

In 2013 I had two knee replacements, one in March and the other in October. In fact I was in rehab on my birthday.
It has taken me longer to get over the second one.

Hi Penny - so glad you joined us!! There might be some exercises listed in one of our threads under replacement central....not sure, it's been awhile since I've peeked in there! And Maryann (other leader kineps) takes care of that part! Walking is always good...and I'm assuming it is for hips as well. Glad to hear you're getting along so well! Keep up the good work and you'll surely make your goal in no time!

I did do a quick check and found a few good exercises for hip and knee replacements - mostly for just after but I"m sure it's good at any time (remember we are NOT experts - we only know what we read or can look up - if you have ANY question - talk to your dr)

Here's the link (hopefully)
Think I'lll do a few of those tonite at bedtime!! :))

Hi everyone! I'm Penny from CT and I had my total hip replacement August 2012. After suffering for years, I felt like a new person! I was in such pain and they wouldn't operate because of my age which at the time was 44. I was born with it and it did not affect the way I walked or give me any pain until I hit my 30's. I would love to hear any exercise tips from others who have gone through the surgery. I don't have access to a pool but walking and low-impact is fine so far. Thank you!

Welcome Wanda. You might like to post in the achievments after surgery to encourage those of us who are not healed yet. I'm doing better but have a long way to go. Today had to go to Toyota as there was a recall on my vehicle. They said it would take 2 1/2 hours but it was a little under 2 hours. I was freezing. They wanted to bring me coffee. I said I don't drink coffee but am tempted to warm me up. He said would you like hot chocolate. I couldn't turn it down.
I did take my walker in so I could do my exercises and also didn't know how much I might have to walk.

Hi Wanda -- so glad you've joined us!!!

You are absolutely right -- PT is hard but SO important!!!
Wow, I'm impressed that you caught yourself running....and had to stop! I could try it but I think I'd know it before I got 2 or 3 steps out!! (we're the same age!)
Stop in and visit in the hot tub as you can - we'd love visiting with you!!!

Hi, I'm Wanda and I was just invited to join this team. I'm 67 years old and my knee replacement was done nearly 3 years ago and I am so happy that I had it done. There were painful times afterwards when I thought it might have been a mistake. PT helped so much but sometimes it also hurt so much! Now I'm able to do almost anything. My doctor doesn't want any hi impact moves but a few times I have actually forgotten and have run for a short distance. I have to remind myself sometimes that I had the surgery!
For anyone who is going through PT: I would say to hang in there and take as long as necessary to really get you comfortable with your knee. It is painful, especially the range of motion but you don't want your knee to stiffen up and you really do want to be able to use the new knee just like the old one.
You need to get a real good bend without pain and you will get there. Healing will continue even after the PT is over but by the time you get to your final followup (for me it was the 2 year annual) you will be more active than you have been able to be in years with that bum knee. I can walk, and walk, and walk now without being tired. Thanks to determination, a fine doctor, hardworking PT folks and God's goodness.

Ahhh -- I"m SO glad you posted - I KNEW someone on the team was having surgery this week/month but couldn't find the email that told me so (in my zealousness to have a 'clean' inbox prob. I deleted it by mistake instead of putting in 'surgery list' . So for that I want to apologize...

Oh my yes the PT IS painful but oh so essential (darn!!) but you'll ge tthrough it and wonder why you didn't do it sooner! Thanks for letting us know!!

I had my left total knee replacement Monday and came home today. I am doing OK, just very sore. The PT was not fun, but I know it is essential.

My knee replacement has been rescheduled for December 23. Not the greatest week for surgery, but hopefully I will have the gift of being pain free in the New Year.

Hi Roxie and welcome!!
As Karen said our everyday chat goes on in the hot tub so join us there. Also, when you have time, read through our Replacement central topic and find out what other members have said about their surgery and story.
I SO identify with falling...I have fallen ALL my life (and yeah it's just from being a klutz!!) so my knees had taken a beating plus add the fact I got older and arthritis set in them....I had my 1st RTKR in June 2008 and my LTKR in 2011. He wanted to them both at the same time but I knew I could NOT do that. (bless those people who can) But I am soooooooooo pleased I had them done. That pain is no longer an issue.
Again, welcome and we look forward to getting to know you! (and thank Carolyn for us that you found us!!)

Hi, Roxie, and welcome! Please feel free to post over in the hot tub, which is where most of us hang out. Sorry about your falls- ouch! I had a left TKR in May, and am hoping I can keep my right knee going a while longer, although it is bone on bone. I hear you on the weight loss/gain. I managed to lose 80 pounds and gain most of it back because of inactivity due to several medical issues. Since my knee surgery, I've found being in the pool is the best exercise for me- it's easy on the joints. Looking forward to getting to know you!

Well... hello! I'm adding my new voice to your team :) CAROLYN0107 suggested you to me... I've been on sp since May 2011 - which was a good year for me as far as (chair) exercising & drinking water, losing about 50 pounds... then life got complicated, and I've gained back 15 of it and lost the strength that I had.

Long story short, I fell twice in September, one on each knee... just clumsy! When I finally admitted that they were getting worse and not better, I started the process of finding what's wrong with them. The left is the worst, they tell me. Had the MRI on it and was sent directly to a surgeon... (insert that we had a 2 wk hassle with insurance - but I'm thankful that it seems to have been resolved for now).

My first appointment with the surgeon is next Tuesday, so I'll know more after that... I've been looking up terms all evening on google :) and have a general idea of what's wrong... besides a complex tear and possible bone fragment, I have a tricompartmental degenerative changes... My right knee (from xrays taken) shows that I have moderate to severe degeneration.

So- I'll be checking into your exercises and suggestions as I continue on this journey! Glad to have found you! :)

Hi Mystery and welcome!

Glad your hip responded well to the cleaning out and surgery! Is it ok if I add you to our list of surgeries for December (so far you're the only one that I know of that's having surgery that month)

Well I say if being bionic means less pain then I say go for it!! The pain just wears you down.

Keep us posted as your surgery gets closer!

I'm back again. I had my right hip replaced in April 2012, I was just going back for my 1-year check up and to schedule a knee replacement when I got an infection in my hip. Fortunately the infection responded to antibiotics after the cleaning out surgery and I didn't need to have the prosthesis replaced.

I am now scheduled for left knee replacement on December 11. I'm working my way to a bionic woman state.

Wow! One was enough for me.... don't think I would want to have two done at the same time. Hope you're doing well now, and you are SO right about staying mobile and doing the exercises. It's STILL important! Have to "protect our investments".

Hi, I've been in SparkPeople for a long time, it really helps me to track food. July 1st I had bilateral knee replacement surgery - it was successful. I had acute rehab at a specialized Hospital for a few weeks, and after I returned home, I did PT twice a week for 9 weeks. The key to success is keeping mobile doing the exercises they gave me. I wish everyone who is faced with knee/hip replacement much success!

All things are possible with God.
Started SP 3/7/06 @ 245.4 lost some gained some. I am currently 258.

Hi Maxie and welcome!

Yep that yo-yo-ing always gets to us, doesn't it? But, good for you for STOPPING the train before you gained all the weight back!!! That's to be commended right there! Read through some of our threads to see if they can help you in any way and our daily general chat takes place in the hot tub. Hope to see you there!

Hi, I am new to this team and am looking for ideas to help me with losing the weight I regained, I had both hips replaced in 2010 and did great, recovery was easy, then the knees started to fail me, I managed to regain 40 pounds of 130 ponds lost and I am just devastated. on 01 Nov 2012 I had total knee replacement on my left knee, surgery was fine but therapy had been very painful. I am still having some hard times with steps, mostly due to the right knee failing on me as well. I would love to hear back with ideas how I can get get back on track, I am counting my calories but have been slacking on exercise. started back up with my stationary bike hope this will get me going.

Hi! I'm not new to Spark People, but it occurred to me today that I really should look for a knee group. I lost a lot of weight a few years ago and managed to gain most of it back due to a series of medical issues. About 18 months ago I started having problems with my knees. Last summer my left knee decided it wasn't going to be happy no matter what I did, so I had to stop walking, and even gave up riding my recumbent bike (the bending killed me). I teach kindergarten, and I postponed surgery until school gets out. Yikes! My surgery is scheduled for May 28th (left total knee replacement). I'm kind of in panic mode, but I'm definitely looking forward to getting the surgery over with, getting better, and having a life that does not revolve around my knee. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone,

Hi! I am new to this team, but not new to SparkPeople. I am 76 years old and have lost 15 pounds over the last five years. My surgery is scheduled for November 3. During the last five years, my left knee has been the center of my life dictating all my activities or lack of activity. I am more apprehensive about the recovery than the surgery itself. I am so grateful I have found this team. I look forward to working with you.

Hi Debela - glad you have found us as well!!! We are a very informative team who focuses on information and support for you before your surgery as well as after. We are in the process of developing a thread for 'what you need to know BEFORE surgery' ....my coleader kineps is doing that and it should be up and running soon. In the meantime you can go to threads titled --I am in planning mode started byLorieLP and also one entitled Shopping ideas started by Lithgirl and one by MRSALLIECAT entitled "I have a few questions" That should give you some information and if you have any other questions either post under the general discussion threads or go into the hot tub -- that is where our general daily conversation takes place and someone will surely answer it there! Again welcome to the team -- I'm Lynn and am glad to meet you!!!

Hi everyone!
I'm new to SparkPeople, and new to this team. I'll be having a total knee replacement in about 6 months, so I'm looking forward to hear the stories from others who had already gone through it. I'm happy to be a part of this team! :)

Hi Robin - so glad to hear from you! Yes getting the weight off to help our knees is a big deal so you are doing well to get a headstart on it! I think many of us are in that same boat so we join you in that journey! Yes I've found as well that the exercise keeps us off the pain meds....just have to do them consistently. Keep up the good work!!!

Hi everyone...I haven't been active here on sparks for a while and I'm just getting back. My name is Robin, I live in CT. My 1st operation on my left knee was Jan.4, 12. My second one to remove scar tissue was Dec. 26,12. NOW I'm better and can walk again without pain. My range of motion increased between last Jan of 12 to 120 today!!! Yeah me!! No pain-killers for me. I'm just so much happier now and I can do so much more. I'll be increasing my walking and my activities now since the warmer weather is finally here. I need to drop some major lbs. so my replacement lasts till my 70's!!!

Hi! I've been on Sparkpeople for a while. Last year I lost 35 pounds and was hoping to get my knees a little less stress. My right knee did get better and rarely hurts unless it is a bad day for pain in general. My right knee has problems and I just had an appointment to reopen discussion about surgery. X-rays were taken and I have to finish up some dental work. Then we will have another discussion about it. I live in a small town that has good medical care because retirees are the biggest business so I won't have to wait a year for surgery, thank goodness!!!

I found a book that is new and quite good: "The Handbook of Hip and Knee Joint Replacement" by Ronald B Hugate and Robert D. Holland. It has excellent information, but it still isn't like talking to friends who've been through it. I'v looked through the team boards and think this is a good place for me to be. I'm hoping for late summer or early fall surgery.

HI all....... Hmm where to start.
I am 56 need to lose about 35 - 40 lbs. I am off work going on 2 years cos of degeneration/herniation of my lower back ( L1-5) and narrowing in the S1 joint which has given me sciatica during the past 3 summers. Dr can only figure the humidity is making the joints swell cos it seems to be way worse in summers. I also have in the past 6 months or so, found out/realized that I have arthritis in my thumbs, back, hips ( somewhat), knees, ankles and L foot. I am on the list for a total knee rep. but is a year away approx. Nervous not only cos I don't do wwell with pain, but also cos my back hurts a lot if I lay on it and even now doing per surg. exercises for my knee makes my back sore so worried that laying on that table for surg.and after is going to mess my back up. Oh well can't have both. lol
I have read almost all the posts in the general area and have learned a lot. Now I better go get ready for bed it is just after 11 here in Atlantic Canada !

Hi BJean -- so glad you've posted. We have had several members who have had hip surgery and hopefully they will see your post and respond here or to you personally!!

Our general conversation takes place in the hot tub. We don't do challenges here as a team -- there are so many teams on SP that do do that -- it just isn't necessary here. We're here more for support before, during and after surgeries, information, and to cheer when we have a success -- either medically or weightloss wise --- so yes please do join in - we're glad to have you!!

Hi mamishel - we're glad Seni invited you too!!! We are all here with the same issue -- either knees or hips that just don't work for us anymore!! Hopefully you'll look at some of the information on the site and also read some of the threads of some of the experiences of some of our members. The most informative thread for that (or at least I think) is the when was or is your surgery Part 2 (the 4th thread down from the hot tub I believe) Lots of stories shared there. If you have any specific questions, don't hesitate to ask . Our general discussion does take place in the hot tub - so jump right in when you can!

Again welcome !!

Thank you to Sennimo for inviting me to this team. I haven't had surgery yet, but I'm looking at having a hip replacement in June, and probably a knee or two down the line! Shel

Hi everyone. I am not new to SparkPeople, bouncing in and out; but finding this team will make a difference. My right TKR was done on Jan 29 and I am in my first full week of out-patient PT. The left knee must be done also. It has always been about a lifestyle change but the surgery has truly been my eye opener! God gives you what you need and I need you guys!

Glad you introduced yourself Ravyna -- We have just had a couple of people have hip replacements so I will let them know this thread is going and perhaps they will respond to you as well. Thanks Irene and Judy for jumping in here!! I've had TKRs so not a lot of experience with hips! (or shoulders) I agree w/ Judy about the water -- it's the best thing. My TKRs were 3 years apart and while the pain was much better after each 'doing stuff' was still a little difficult. Since I've been swimming (since last Oct) I'm able to walk further distances without discomfort and just ROM has improved so much.
Again welcome --

Hi Didmis and Ravyna, I had a hip replacement in 2006 on my left hip. I had to have it re done in 2010 because I could hear a knocking in my hip. Other people could hear it too and I was very self conscious about it. Now I have to have my right hip done. I'm scheduled for surgery on March 2nd. I sure hope this will be the end of it. I just want to get on with my life. I also do water aerobics, that is about the only exercise I can do. I also need a shoulder replacement, so I can't do any weight lifting. Water aerobics really seems to help the shoulder pain. I'm hoping I can get back to walking after this.

Everyday is a new beginning.

This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!

Hi every one. I am glad that I have found you all. I should have joined some time ago. I had both my knees replaced on January 2, 2007. I did rehab for 9 months. I am definitely better off for having done it, but I still have trouble with my right knee, and I need to continue to loose weight.
I seem to be starting to have pain in my left hip and not sure what is causing it. and how long to wait to go see a doctor, and whether to see a different doctor or the one that did my knees?? Do you have any ideas on that? And I also still have pain in my right foot. on the bottom.
Anyway that is where I am at.

Hi Linda and Cat. I am scheduled for knee replaceent on my left knee on the 9th Linda. Hope I make it as I had a hot water leak and they are replacing the carpet, taking the stuff out first of course, storing it and bringing it back. I am downsizing as well.

Hi Cat -- So glad to have you here as well!! I'm Lynn one of the co-leaders of the team. I hope you have had a chance to look through some of our threads to read our other members stories. Yes, some have had some problems when they had their surgeries but the majority have had a good experience and are VERY glad they had it done. For myself -- I had my 1st one done in 2008 and it actually took me a full year afterwards to say I was GLAD I had it done. So when I decided to have the 2nd one done 3 years later I knew it wouldn't be easy but I knew how much better I'd feel. Of course losing the weight b/f the surgery helps but I only lost about 25# b/f my 1st surgery (of about 75 I needed to lose) but I was fine. Before the surgeries exercise was pretty nonexistent -- I mean when you're hurting who wants to exercise?? But afterwards -- and with some talking to myself now I am able to do so much more -- which helps in the journey of exercise. We are here to support, help and hopefully answer some questions as you go into this -- glad that you are posting. Come join us in the hot tub - where most of our everyday convesation takes place.
Again - welcome!!

Hi everyone. I am very happy to have found this team.. I am overweight by 100 lbs, 45 years old and because of a severe car accident and my obesity I have to have knee replacement. I have post pone the surgery once in October. Now it is scheduled for February 22. I don't know if I should go through with it or not. I feel so afraid. All the what if's are going through my mind. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Glad I found you! Thanks for the welcoming messages. I'm going to keep in touch and see how others are doing while I work at staying motivated to do the workouts. I've added your team goal to my list. The therapist gave me a small lift to wear in the heel of my shoe. I already was wearing a shoe with a thicker sole on that foot when I was going to walk very much.
