Hubby and I are working to lose 60 lbs over the next year. He has a severely damaged heart and is on a very low calorie/ low sodium plan and I'm doing the same plan with him. Since Sept. 13th, he's down 23 lbs and I'm down 13 lbs.

Sounds good to me. Are you aiming for 3.5 lbs a wk. If so, is that reasonable? I am not an expert; however, if you drop that much per week you may feel a lose of energy.

Hi Ladies! New to the group. 35lbs to lose, 15 by December 15th is one goal.
I work two jobs and so diet is more critical then exercise at the moment. I exercise on the weekends and short bits during the week (but everyday). I NEED PEOPLE WHO USE THIS SITE a lot! This gets me through every day of fatigue and free bagels, chocolate, muffins, pizza and soda at work! Lets do this!

Yes, an introduction would be good, huh? Lol Well I've been on spark for a few years but decided to do a complete overhaul and created a new page. I've gotta say, it's kind of refreshing! I'm a leader in the Mud Runners and Obstacle Racers team (or will be again in the next couple days) and am kind of an obstacle junkie, lol. I train at home, haven't had a gym membership in years. Mostly bodyweight, running, hiking. My main challenge is food, but the opposite of most people on here. I tend to not eat. Sometimes it's because I'm not hungry, too busy, no healthy options (I starve myself over eating unhealthy foods, choose your evil), or I straight up don't have funds when I'm out and hungry. It all comes down to poor planning and I've struggled for years. Just can't seem to stick to a system!

Anyway, I'm glad to be here and I look forward to getting to know everyone better! I'm a daily sparker, so you'll get to know me!

I'm a mother of two young boys with 30 some pounds to lose. Working full time, life is busy, and I've used that as an excuse to avoid exercise and eat any way I want. So now, I'm trying to turn that around before it is so out of control that I can't see my way back to healthy. My major struggles are keeping away from sugar and finding motivation to exercise - I've never learned to enjoy it the way others do even though I've tried different things.

Yeah, a group of ladies to check in with daily! Hi, I'm Koren. I'm from Wisconsin. The beer, brats and cheese are NOT a good thing. I never had a problem with my weight until I got divorced 7 years ago. I put on 10 pounds. Then came to my senses and did a Body for Life challenge in 2008. I was in the best shape ever! Somehow I forgot about the "for life" part and now I'm back at square 1 with 20 pounds to lose. I'm ready.

Hello Ladies - I'm jumping in with both feet. So, i hope you dont mind the join. I have never reached out before and with working from home I find it now a necessity. The hardest thing for me is that when I sit down to 'just' take a look at emails I turn around and the day is gone. So now I will move 10 minutes every hour and take time out of the day I devote to others to take care of me. Yikes....how does one do that? Now is the time for a change. Thanks for the ear. Great day to all!

PS - I too am from South Texas, more specifically, the Katy area. Looking forward to making new friends.

Hi! Checking in here on invite from Terri. My name is Ros and I also live in South Texas (Gulf Coast) area. I work as a police dispatcher for a small police department in a neaby town. I am just recently back to Spark after my second year-long hiatus. I started my journey in January 2010 at a weight of 272. I got down to about 230lbs when I fell off the wagon. Then in June of 2011 I was told that I was diabetic and had awful cholesterol. My doctor (bless her) put me on cholesterol meds, but gave me six months to fix the situation or I would need to start medication for the diabetes as well. This was a HUGE wake up call for me. I was right back where I started at 270lbs and I knew that "diet" was not what I needed. I needed a lifestyle change... so I began following the Low GI meal plans and exercise and got down to 221 lbs, diabetes and cholesterol med-free before my whole life was switched up. I lost my job, divorced my husband and moved from the Austin area down to the coast. I am SO thankful that the second time I changed my lifestyle instead of just dieting so I kept up many of the small dietary changes I had already made. I was able to limit my "fall" to just an 8lb gain -- I am an emotional eater, so this is a miraculously small amount to gain back given the stress of the time.

I have now been settled in my new home for a year. I have met the love of my life. I have a great new job and friends and I am in the best possible place to pick back up where I left off. The 8lbs I gained have already been lost in the last few weeks and I am looking forward to dumping the last of the 40lbs I need to finally be in the "Healthy" BMI range for my height at 178lbs. (I am 6ft tall so my goal weight is somewhat higher than most women). I am 4 lbs away from finally saying goodbye to the "Obese" BMI and I am HOPING to lose them by next Tuesday (Weigh Day) - nothing like a super ambitious goal right?

This round I am finding my motivation for exercise is WAY beyond where I was before. I am addicted. I NEED to workout daily. My body craves the activity and I am ignoring those who insist that I need a rest day. I am listening to my body and if it wants to work out, why should I say no?

My nutrition could always be improved, but it's a work in progress. My portions are a struggle and I have a salty tooth and am a habitual eater (snacker).

I am AWFUL at drinking water! I have always hated the taste and find that the only time I can choke it down is when I am working out. The rest of the day I drink flavored carbonated water, and bribe myself with a flavored water for every plain water I drink.

Lastly is the BIG issue... the one I am avoiding... I still smoke. I had quit for 3 years but with the divorce, etc I picked it up again and I just cannot seem to put them down. I have promised myself that once I am out of the 200s I HAVE to quit. Right now they are my security blanket. I dunno... It's ridiculous, but there it is.

So that's more about me than you needed/wanted to know! haha I am glad to be here and am excited to start my third attempt by making full use of the resources on this site in the way of the Teams and by blogging. I am off to poke around these boards and get to know you all a bit better.

I had left all my teams and sparkpeople due to computer issues. But I'm back now and hope I have no more computer problems.
I'm working to lose enough weight that I'll be more comfortable in my own skin and regain my energy level.

I was a member of sparkpeople a couple times under different user names but since menopause, my thinking gets all screwed up and I let emotions get the best of me. So I end up dropping teams or leaving sparkpeople completely. But I'm back to stay this time, no matter what til I lose this weight.
******************UPDATED 10-27-2012********************
Ok, I had these big plans and guess I'm trying to do too much all at once. So here's an update on what I will be working towards now and hope with everything I have in me, I can stick with.
I went back to weighing and will weigh once a week instead of daily, starting tomorrow. After 30 years of weighing daily; going cold turkey just isn't going to work for me. So it'll be once a week for now.
I plan to do a modified low carb plan. That means I will basically be giving up 98% of the junk carbs but allowing the veggie and fruit carbs that most low carb plans frown on. For now I'm going to allow myself the 150 grams of carbs a day maximum but work to keep it lower.
In the past this would have me so frustrated I'd say to H*** with it and leave sparkpeople. That's not happening this time. I'm determined, come h*** or high water, I'm going to stick it out and do my best each day to eat in moderation of whatever I do eat and get in 30 minutes of some form of exercise and over time maybe add a little more. There will be days when I'm very active and then there will be days where I do good to get in the 30 minutes. It is what it is. All I can do is what I can each day.
I know this is a process but it looks like I could find something that would "click" for me and not be so friggin' hard.
But I'm not leaving and each day I'll do the very best I can.

Good Morning all!

My name is Val and Terri asked me to join this team months ago. I did but stupidly didn't realize how to post and incorporate my goals. Whala, today I've caught on. I am 57 years old and very interested in getting to a state of health that will allow me to be active throughout the rest of my life. I am about 65 pounds over my goal weight and am working at 10 pounds this month...May. I'm happy to be part of this team and since I most struggle with drinking my water I've made that a tracking goal of mine. I do have a blog, well two blogs that I keep up. One is call "Life is a Highway" http://wwwlifeisahighway.blogspot.com, and, Eat - Write & Train Yourself Healthy, http://eat-writeandtrainyourselfhealthy.bl
ogspot.com/ I will post both as I update them. Thanks for letting me be a part of this team and any tips are most appreciated. Ciao!

Hello everyone! I'm looking for some daily accountability. I tend to lose a few pounds and gain a few pounds and round and round I go. I'm great at consistent exercise - aikido, tennis, weight lifting classes at the gym, and a variety of cardio classes at the gym not to mention playing with my 4 and 5 year old girls. Trouble area - I have a huge appetite!!!! Tracking has helped with my eating but I still struggle. After looking at my tracking charts Dec 2010-present it looks like I keep in range for protein and carbs but at least half the time (namely Fri, Sat, Sun) I go over on both fat and total calories. Ready to really focus on eating nutritionally and keeping portions in check.

Hi Kim, Welcome to Spark Daily! It's great having you here! Great job on your starting to run. You might want to look up the C25K programs, or couch to 5K programs. I know one of our members Amy completed it and now she is a runner. It worked out great for her. Well, please join us in the Daily Accountablity thread! We encourage you to post daily. It really helps me to have some place to be accountable to reguarly. Have an awesome day!!

Hi everybody. My name is Kim and I joined SparkPeople in December and I have been working on getting more exercise in and making better food choices. I always love reading what others are doing to be successful and I'm happy to consider any suggestions you might have for me. I just started jogging yesterday! I haven't done it in 8 years! So I did 30 seconds of walking and 30 seconds of jogging for a total of 30 minutes. That was so much more of a workout than just walking for 30.

Welcome Monica! I agree it's overwhelming sometimes, but the support system of the message boards is worth it. I've been inconsistent at posting lately and I definitely feel more alone. Give it a try!!

Hello everyone!

My name is Monica, and I'm not totally new to spark, but recommitting after the holidays! I've never really jumped into teams/blogs/message boards here before, and it still seems a little overwhelming, but I think the support I would gain will be entirely worth the effort!

hi everyone!!! i just rejoined spark after a LONG hiatus, and i'm ready to jump back in. i'm 34, married (no kids), and have about 45 lbs to lose. i'm giving myself an entire year to do it, since my goals tend to be a little too aggressive. i also quit smoking last week (finally!), so i'm feeling good about the future :)

looking forward to joining in on the discussions and challenges here!
