Hi,
Well I"m not very far along with weight lose, but I am feeling better. I know for weight lose doesn't come easy, I had my metabolism tested and its not on the chart. I've been a Synthroid dependant since 1988 and have gained an average of 2 lbs every years, now since i have reached my 50's its even harder to keep it down, i'm diabetic and have severe arthritis and back issues. But I working on making myself move, I got a trainer coming to the house, we are getting a treadmill for me to walk on mostly because i have problems standing for any lenght of time and figure 10 minutes 3 X a day and I can make my cardo and maybe beable to increase it.
Oh well I have enjoyed Spark, and found alot of things to try for my problems. Thanks everyone

Hi, I started this program because I was already working on diet and exercise, but something wasn't working. Since I started, I have lost 9lbs. I also was diagnosed with Hoshimotos after I had my last child (9 years ago). You would think weight loss would be easy after taking medicine, but it doesn't.
So you have to diet and exercise harder or SMARTER.
I'm opting for the latter.

Hi, I am 76kg having just lost 2kg!! Wohoo!! I am 8 months post partum, recently diagnosed with hashimotos thyroidis and hyperprolactinemia (both potential causes of my weight gain). Lead a fairly active lifestyle but could not get the weight to budge. Excited to get back to my pre-preg weight and be a healthy mum to my girls!

Hi Rosyfirst!
I can so relate to the "you dont need to lose weight" comments! I was, for me, an ideal 120# before I met my husband. Now, I am struggling to get back there from 145# :-( I do not pay attention to what people say because it is my body and I know what weight is healthy and comfortable for me.

My husband is just like yours. Doesnt gain a pound no matter what he eats, but I love him anyway.

Words of encouragement: No one else can feel more comfortable in your body than you! Do what works for you!

You might need something more vigorous, but you can usually get a 5-free pass to try it out. I know a couple ladies who had great success, but they had been pretty sedentary for many years before going. I've been pretty inactive for about 2 years so I'm not sure it will work for me. If if doesn't, my next step will be to join a local gym and pay a trainer to set me up with a program that works for me. emoticon Just gotta keep trying till you hit the combination that works for you. At Curves, it feels like your working in a group.

Yes, we have Curves here too, but I have seen some people go and they don't look much different. I thought I needed something more rigorous? Maybe I don't???

Hi Deb -- Wish I lived closer, I'd love to have a walking partner. Since I don't, I'm seriously considering joining Curves... maybe that would work for you too. -- Donna emoticon

Hi, My name is Deb from central MN. I'm 53 and over the past year, weight is coming in places I never thought possible. I feel like I am an embarrassment to myself. Like I've lost all control. I have gained 15 pounds this year. I have also done a pretty good job of keeping busy during this time. I can't lose one pound and am frustrated with my walking and watching what I eat. I need something like weight watchers, but not Weight Watchers. I need a "group" weigh in each week to motivate me/each other more. A group who could exercise together or walk together, just to motivate each other. My husband is a large man, who does not desire weight loss. Does anyone know what kind a group I could get started for weigh-in and support, without the WW prices?

Hi! I've been following this program for 2 weeks now and have found myself motivated and excited to say with this my third weight loss effort. I usually am successful taking off the weight and keeping it off for a couple of years. Suddenly I cave under from listening to the compliments of how good I look, but mostly I cave under when I hear people say, "I think you've lost too much. You should put on about 10 pounds." This time, I hope to stay focused and ignore those people. I can't just put on ten pounds. I have 50 pounds to lose again and don't want to repeat this battle again. I'm 57 years old and pretty active. I know that I can do this. I live with a wonderful man. Married 37 years. He is extremely support and never weighed an extra pound in his life. I love he in spite of that flaw. Ha Ha emoticon

Hi, I'm Michelle. I'm 25 y/o and have been overweight most of my life. I gained 30-40 pounds when I went to college. I did sign up with SparkPeople once before and lost 20 pounds, and I'm back again to finish the job. Three weeks in, and I've lost about 6 pounds!!! Losing weight is awesome, but I want to be healthy more than anything.

I'm and RN on a heart and lung floor for 3 years. I have a large family; unfortunately, most of us are overweight. I also have a dog named Bailey, who, according to the vet, is morbidly obese...so I guess we'll be taking more walks outside...

I'm excited with the progress so far and hope to keep it going!!!

I joined Spark on a whim because I was just wandering around on the web looking for quick fixes. I was just comparing a few sites for tracking tools and had no idea what I was getting into!

I have just scratched the surface with the information here - what I am benefiting from the most are the daily reminders to keep my work on my health at the top of my priorities. I know a lot of the techniques for success but bashing me over the head with them repeatedly seems to be helping!

I am not tracking yet - I just have finally been able to give up a cookie/muffin/chocolate bar a day habit and that has resulted in a modest weight loss. The most important thing is that the modest weight gain has STOPPED! Still have 25# to loose.

As I get more involved I'm going to be using the tools to make more significant positive eating changes.

thanks to all ... Rox

Good morning All!!!
I am taraji. My goal is to lose 20# in a healthy and permanent way. My method to achieve this goal is through a total lifestyle change. About 2 years ago, my health changed drastically. The doctors thought I had a TIA (mini-stroke). So, to lower my cholesterol, I began to read nutrional labels and WOW!!! I never realized how many "bad" things I was putting into my body.

Well, here I am 2 years later and still maintaining 139 lbs. I will lose a pound or two and that is it. I know that the body changes when a woman reaches a certain age, but for me to be as healthy as possible I really need to shed this extra 20#. emoticon

peace n blessings

Hi all. I'm Donna, I'm on a VERY LONG journey to health and fitness and I didn't know I was on a team. I need to trim 40-50 lbs to feel good and have been struggling with them for years. The secret for me I think is exercise. I injured my foot & hip... I had to rest and heal... I'm there now, just need to get moving again.

About success stories... in addition to Barefootinlady's suggestion to read them, along with your visual motivators go ahead and WRITE YOUR OWN SUCCESS STORY - all the things you are hoping to achieve, as if it has already happened. Then put it up where you can see it and get started making it come true emoticon

Hello everyone, I am a bit slow on my answer to all of your wonderful welcome. Staying busy with Family, Church and work keeps me pretty busy. I am currently battling to loose 5lbs by Sept 12th; on my way to 35lbs of my over all goal to get back to an ideal weight for my size. I have tried many dieting trials with little to no success, Hopefully I will find the help I need in Sparkpeople. Bare with me as I need to get a page built. Soon perhaps. Talk to you all soon.

Hello! I'm about two weeks late on introducing myself. Things are a bit busy for us as we bought a house on July 28 and have started the moving process. Amazingly though I've already dropped 3 pounds!!! Celebrate!!! I've been slowly creeping up over the past year and it has become ridiculous so here I am at Spark hoping my motivation will stay up so I can reach my goal. I will be off and on the site infrequently until things straighten out again... nice to meet everyone!!

Hi Aisha. My sister was in about the same boat you are in, except that she weighed a little more. She has just come under the 200 mark, and we both celebrated for her. She works on a little weight loss at a time, and rewards herself when she reaches benchmarks. Once I realized how serious she was, I started rewarding her too. Small things. In fact, I will be sending her a tea ball now that she has gone under the 200 mark. Small, but valuable, because she earned it. Find a support person and celebrate with something tangible when you make those benchmarks. Keep your focus on the road ahead. If you are driving 200 miles, you can't see 200 miles away, right? You can only see just the road in front of you. At night, even less. Such is life. During difficult times, you can only see where the lights are shining right in front of you. Follow those. Trust the system. Sometimes you can see a long way. Be sure to smell the flowers during these times. Otherwise, you will miss them all. I'd love to hear how well you are doing as you jump on the bandwagon with the rest of us.

I will never get a better chance to make a perfect choice, than RIGHT NOW!

You can do it, Dorothy!! Read all the success stories on Sparks and know that YOU too can be one of those success stories.

Find Sparks friends and stay in touch. We are all in this "get healthy" mode together.

You can do it, Aisha!!! We're all here for you! Just start by changing one eating habit. It takes (or so I've been told) 21 days to do something and, therefore, make it a new habit in your life. That's pretty easy if you start with one new habit.

Hi,

My motivation is coming from reading different people's blogs on Sparks. The more I read of their success, the more I want that too. It has helped me to write down my food too, ugh. : ) But, it does help.

Start small, my husband always ask me (when I'm frustrated about something that seems overwhelming to me), "How do you eat an elephant?" The answer: "One bite at a time."

So, just make a small goal. Eat 5 veggies (not starchy cooked ones) every day for one week. Sounds small, but with success comes more motivation.

YOU CAN DO IT!!!! And, we are here to cheer you on!

Smiling, and sending you a hug!

Hello! I am KiKi and I am a 43 year old nurse and mother of 2. I was one of those people that never even dreamed my weight would ever be an issu. Then my 30's hit and with it came 15 pounds! I decided I could live with that and battled to maintain. 5 years ago I had to have a complete hysterectomy, so with my 40's came that and 30 extra pounds. This I cannot live with. I am a RN with a degree in nutrition so having this issue is just embarrassing. I have tried weight watchers and other programs and just could not get motivated. So here I am week 2 and I have lost 6 pounds! Thanks for the support!

Hi I am Kelly , my confession is I am overweight and I have a lot of weight to lose. This is my first time actually being in a support group of any kind.I think that the support will help me in other ways as well. I went to a weight management doctor yesterday and to my surprise the doctor recommended spark for support and new food ideas. I was pleased that I had already joined. I made a great decision. Thanks for the upcoming support on this journey.

Hey all! Joined last week and am, like a lot of you, overwhelmed by all the facets of the site. Have been on a plateau for 6+ months now, and would like to kick the rest of this excess weight to the curb. My biggest weakness is exercising regularly...and as hot as it is, it's hard to get that in. But no more excuses--I'm going to own this. emoticon

Hello everyone, I am Tanya. I am not new to sparkpeople. I have changed my username and started over with the right mind set of retaining all that there is to use from the tools provided and the information that is set before me. I am trying really hard to track what I eat. I am getting my kids involved in eating right and exercising and doing my best to be a better role model for them.

This time I will make time for my health!! emoticon

Hello all! This is my second time on Sparkpeople. It helped me lose 30lbs before I joined the military and now I want to lose 15lbs more so I can maintain a healthy weight. I am currently in South Korea so alllll this Korean food, I've noticed, is going straight to my hips! So I'm back on here to regulate my diet and continue logging my fitness.

Hello everyone. I am a 42 yr old, that has 100+ lbs to lose. My goal is to lose 2-3 lbs per week. I am unsure how to navigate this website. I have been logging my daily nutrition, etc. But don't seem to have a handle on what exactly I need to be doing. If anyone has been having success, could you please give me some tips on what I should be doing on a daily basis on this site? Thanks and much success to all.

Hi everyone! My name is Becky. I'm 31 years old and live in Dallas, TX. I have completed 16 half marathons and 2 full marathons with Team In Training, yet somehow I seem to be putting on weight. I found this website on my Blackberry while I was looking for an app to track my food and exercise. I really like the tracking systems (beats the heck out of my Excel spreadsheets), and there is so much information on here. I am training for my next half marathon on August 15, my next full marathon on November 14, and the Walt Disney World Goofy Marathon and Half Challenge January 8 and 9, 2011. Hoping to get my access weight lost in the process.

The miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start. ~ John "The Penguin" Bingham

Hello - my name is Alex, 23/male. Focusing on getting through college and finding a career resulted in the gradual addition of about 25 pounds. I'm hoping to lose about 40 and get down to 165.

Hi everyone,

I joined Sprk last week, and am still figuring my way through the immense information and resources on this site. I am 43 yrs old, a mom of 2 and very busy with work and life! I need to lose 30 lbs, and feel that with the support of Spark folks, I can do it. For me, exercising and being active is the challenge. I only have time to work out at the end of the day, but by then I am either too tired or not motivated. Will work to change that, and get on my way to reaching my goal...

Hey everyone! I joined Spark last week and am loving every minute of it. It's really helping me stay motivated and on the right track. I quit soda last Friday and haven't touched a drop since, and also upped my veggie and water intake. I've never felt better and it's so good to have so much more energy already!

Hi everyone. My name is Angela, I am 46, 5'4 and 235. Am just tired of being overly tired, sedantary and heavy. Am hoping this site will help support me. My first goal is 18 pounds by end of September.

First question - how'd you all get those great rulers at the bottom of your post? :)

Hi everyone! emoticon My name is Tera. I am 34, 5'1", 210lbs. My ultimate goal is 125, but for now I will be working towards losing 40 lbs before December. I am in school for my teaching degree and I start my student teaching semester in a couple of weeks. I really want to be comfortable with my body when I walk across the stage in December! I am married and have a 15 year old son. Both are a normal weight so its hard with no "buddy" around. That's where you lovely people come in! :) I hope we can all help encourage each other so we can reach our goals emoticon

Hello! My name is Dorothy. At this time I weigh 250 lbs and I am 5'7". Ideally I would like to weigh 185, but that's the ultimate goal. Right now, I want to try to lose at least 20 lbs by October and then perhaps another 20 by December. I've joined Curves and I'm trying to eat right. So, we'll see how it goes.

Thanks!

Hi, everyone. My goal is to lose some fat and gain some muscle. I've had 3 kids and this has helped in adding some of the weight. I had severe allergies (under control, now, thankfully!) and have more energy and desire to get fit. My biggest hurdle is keeping a routine. I tend to put my self last and burn the candle at both ends.

Hey everyone! I'm Bridgett. I'm 34 years old, and just had a baby boy in July. As much as I enjoyed all the pregnancy eating...especially the ice cream, and snowcones :D it's time to pay the piper. lol I have about 85 lbs I want to lose. I'm already 5 lbs below my prepregnancy weight, so I'm glad about that, but I've got a long way to go!! Look forward to getting to know everyone along the way! :)

Hi! I am 24 years old. i am active duty in the Marine Corps. I am married to a wonderful and very supportive man (who is also a Marine). We have three daughters: Allena, Autumn, and Eva. I had all of my children very close together and now I am paying for it. Being active duty I am required to be within height and weight standards. In order to meet those I have to loose 10 pounds by September 1 of this year. I was doing great trying to loose the weight then I hit this last ten pound plateau. I have been stuck here for almost a month. I am quite discouraged but I think that my discovery of this site will really help me out.

Hello Everyone,
I am Gayle from Michigan. I am the big 60, ugh. I fight with depression and some days the only cure is eating. After looking at my daily menues I was, am, very scared. If it doesn't come from the freezer and go to the the microwave or out of a can and into a pan, I don't know how to fix it. I have so much to learn and I am somewhat intimidated with foods that I have never even heard of before. So, I am off to a rough start. I have started a grocery list, my first step. Wish me luck as I wish all of you.

Hey, all! I'm Carolyn, 31 years old and living in Northern Virginia. It's time for me to lose some weight. There are many motivating factors, but mostly it's for my own health and well being. I have a beautiful four year old and want to be as healthy as I can be to enjoy her busy busy energy. I am feeling a little nervous about this whole thing, but really hoping that this is going to work. Good luck to all!!!

Hello everyone,
I am new and ready to lose weight. I am a 22 year old college student who let myself go. I want to be skinny by graduation which is in May 2011. I will do it. I will lose weight and keep it off. I am so excited to start Sparks People. This is such a cool website. I play on the website more than Facebook now which is awesome to me. I look up recopies and find inspirational stories rather than looking at my skinny friends pictures on the beach. I want a life change. Add me as a friend. I want people to help encourage me and I will do the same for you.

Hi there,

I'm Kate, and I'm four days in. So far so good! I'm hoping to make a lasting life change. I'm 24 and I'm a grad student. There have been plenty of days in the past where I get home from work and the last thing I want to do is go exercise so hopefully this will help keep me motivated! I look forward to getting to know you all. Let the journey begin!

Hi everyone,

I am ready to start making some changes and I look forward to the support and encouragment this site has to offer. I plan to lose 40 lbs. I have already met some of my goals this year but I still have along ways to go. I will be keeping a food journal and counting my calories. It seems to be the most successful for me. I also am focusing on running and hope to be able to run a 5k in 30-35 minutes. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.

Well, I'm on day 3. Sticking with things is hard for me. I love the gym, but when I don't have a membership I gain weight. I had to let mine go because my hubby has been dealing lots of illness including cancer (twice) over the last 2-3 years. I am a student graduating in December as a Surgical Technologist. I have 4 teens, & about 30 pets (reptiles, birds, cats, dogs, you name it) So life is busy, but my health is important. I'd like to drop 25-30 lbs., get back to exercising, and tweek my diet. I've never been an unhealthy eater really, but I can stand to make some improvements.

Hi all!!

I'm new, been using Livestrong to track my daily calories but I really want something a bit more supportive because motivation is my biggest stepping stone.

I'm 22 and desperate to lose about 15 pounds. I have really bad eating habits and I dislike exercise - but I have vowed to myself to start running using the couch to 5K programme.

I'm counting on you guys to keep me motivated!

I'm fromthe UK and I am in my final year of my medical degree so next year is going to be tough and I'm going to need some serious help to get through it and hopefully be skinnier by the end!

I'm a 43 y/o mom of eight, just recently married my best friend 2 weeks ago. Our kids range in age from 23 down to 2, with two grandchildren thrown in for fun!

I had done SP previously, but let it go by the wayside as I got busy studying for the Fire Academy and trying to keep up with life in general. then summer hit, and in addition to being the camp nurse I was drafted into being the camp cook as well. Now camp is over and I'm looking forward to cooking for just us instead of 70+ people at a time.

I'm also looking forward to meeting everyone here and learning more about what works for all of us to meet our goals.

I'm a little late but late is better than never! My name is Angel. I'm 25 and have a wonderful husband and 3 year old son. I actually first created this account a couple of months ago but life was hectic at the time so I didn't actually commit to losing weight. I am feeling more settled now and am ready to get healthy! I currently work at a college and working on my bachelor's degree. Good luck, everyone!!!!

Hi everyone! I'm a 38 year old mother of 2, who works full time when school is in session. I joined SP after using another calorie counting website that was cumbersome. I was super excited when my BFF joined and asked me to join too! I then convinced my husband to join! emoticon , and seem to be spreading the love. My current goal is to lose 10 pounds. I've been working out and eating right for a month. And, I've just hit a plateau. I need motivation to keep at it! Especially since I return to work full time in 17 days! YIKES! working me = tired me emoticon

Hi,
I joined earlier in the week and haven't had a chance to do much. I'm a mother of two toddlers. I need to get serious with meal planning, healthy choices and exercise. I wanted to have this weight off before I turned 40 and now 41 is only a few weeks away. I need to get back on the train with positive thoughts and ditch that train will all the negative toughts.

Hi All: This is my first time on the spark adventure and I'm finding it lots of fun. I live in Barrie, Ontario. I still find lots of things confusing and I wish someone would just tell me what to eat... cause that would be easier. This site makes figuring it out fun.

Good morning! This is my 4th day and I have started and stopped SparkPeople 4 times before since 2006. I am trying again. I have never joined the SP team so my goal now is to support my team thus supporting myself. I hope I can make a few friends here.

Good luck everyone with your goals and have a wonderful weekend!

Hi everyone. I first signed onto SP in 2008, but that was really as far as I got. So I'm REjoining and plan to be actively involved this time. I'm in my 40's, happily married, mom of 2 teen boys. I've been gaining and losing weight for about 20 years now. Time to start losing again. Does it ever end?? Please motivate me, inspire me, support me, help me.

Hi y'all. I'm a thirty year old university student up in Canada. I eat good food, but eat way too much when I'm feeling stress. I walk everyday out of necessity, and do yoga semi-regularly, but I have no motivation for heart-pumping workouts. So then, two goals - *Overcoming Emotional Eating* and *Exercising More*. But also, Planning My Meals, Exploring the Trails, and Making Sleep a Priority.

I'm a 39 year old single mom from Detroit who will soon be facing an empty nest. And I think BNLSKINNY may be my long lost twin...many similar attitudes & issues when it comes to eating right, exercise and just plain old healthy living. I feel your pain, sis...I feel your pain!

I've never really been one for message boards and this kind of support, but I'm starting to believe that this may be the piece I've been missing in my other failed attempts at weight loss. So...here I am. Ready & willing to give and receive the support & encouragement...and occasional kick in the behind parts...that we all sometimes need on this journey. Heh...I'm almost excited about this...go figure! emoticon

Hello, I am living in Waukesha WI. It is taking time to learn all the parts of SP, but I am really enjoying it! Many changes and lots of stress are reasons for finding a way to return to the me I remember. Exercise was not part of my life and now that I can walk without crutches again that needs to change. New knees a few years ago, but the weight did not come off like I thought it would living overseas. Really enjoy learning tech things from my sons, reading, knitting, and missionary work. New friends are always welcomed!

Hi Class of July 25-31, I am a 37 year old emotional eater and my biggest downfall in this weight loss journey is the excuses I give myself to not work out or the ones where I make it OK to eat a Milky Way Bar. I need friends who understand and who will help me on this new journey so I dont give up on myself again. PLEASE, please add me as a friend so we can each others support system.
Wishing all of you the very best in your own weight loss.
