Better late than never, right! Glad to be a member of this team and to hear what all of you have accomplished since joining. I am 67, 5'2" and have lost 6 pounds since joining on July 19th!! "Trying" to make myself drink more water, be thoughtful in food choices and exercise at least every other day (mostly to Walk Off the Bellyfat dvd) I'm a size 12 and am striving to be an 8!!
Working on it but it may take awhile!!! Good luck to you all in your quests and hope to get to know you and give and receive support on our plight together!!!

Hi! My name is LM (well, that's obviously not my "real name" but it's still who I am! :) I finally decided to give up eating brownies and chocolate chip cookies in the bed... apparently it's not such a hot idea after you've had children. Who knew? {blush} At any rate, I've decided that being chubby just isn't for me, and that it's high time that I return to my pre-babies weight plus about 10lbs (I really liked it at 115lbs!)

After five years and an extra 51 pounds (I mean, seriously... I used to eat brownies & cookies in the bed all the time & didn't gain an ounce!!!) I'm getting in shape by getting back into running, hiking, biking & aerobics. I'm making certain to get at least 60 minutes of cardio per day (I've been getting about twice that), and limiting my calories to 1200 per day (more often than not, a little less than that, because I just can't consume any more). Oh... and no more junk food in the bed, LOL!!!

In the last month I've lost 17 of the 51 lbs that I plan to burn, and I'm finding that the journey to getting back to my normal self is pretty fun. I'm rediscovering activities that I'd inadvertantly given up (hiking & biking, as two examples), and realizing that I love doing them even more with my little ones. I can't believe that I've been missing this!

I am new to SparkPeople and have been very impressed with the wealth of practical information. I think it will take me a long time to lose the extra weight, but will do my best. By the way, I entered my weight info in pounds, but it shows the same numbers in kilograms. What am I doing wrong? Best Wishes to all.

Hi, I am a food addict and someone recently mentions sparkspeople.com to me so I decided I have nothing to lose but weight. I've done one week and feel great. lost 3 lbs but have 47 more to go. I've been yo-yo-ing all my life. My mother was a diabetic and suffered terribly because she yo-yo-ed all her life. She went blind, was unable to walk and died a very slow and painful death. both my brothers are diabetic as well, but for now, I've dodged the bullet.
we all need to focus on the bigger picture than losing weight (yea, right :) and that is, being healthy. naturally, i want to be thin and look great and i want to be healthy.

Wanted to stop in and say HELLO to everyone!! I did sign up last week, but after a bad case of food poisoning, I am know 'officially" here. I did SP awhile ago along with south beach and it worked well, that was two years ago - Now I am back where i started, but trying to start fresh. Not doing south beach because obviously for me that wasnt long term successfull.....any ideas out there for what to follow??

Hi Everyone,
I was reading an article about people who lost half their body weight and in the article one lady had said that she had used SP to help her with her journey. So I checked it out and so far I love it!

I am hoping to lose about 20 pounds by the holidays. SP is helping me really track what I eat and how much I exercise. I love alll of the various tools and that there is a team to fit just about any interest that someone might have.

I found my reason why I want to lose weight. I'm done having kids & I don't want 2 have any health problems, plus I'm tired of having a belly and jelly roll arms. I'm more motivated than anything to do this & 2 keep it off. Not to mention everywhere I go I keep seeing folks with washboard abs!

Emily don't let yourself give up! You have to find a reason why YOU want to do this and how it will benefit YOU. I have found that saying to myself when I am ready to give up or give in "Do I need this or do I want this" and then it hits me that the only one that I am hurting/cheating is myself. It has helped me stay on track so far. Give it a shot, see if it helps. Another piece of advice I can give you is that if you are messing up on your eating, next time you go for that junk food, chew a piece of gum first for 15-20 minutes and see if the craving passes. My nutritionist recommended that because I am an emotional eater.

Hi everyone. I thought Spark People would be a good compliment to WW, especially since it has a strong community of support built in. I'm 36 years old and weigh 268 lbs, which is 20 lbs less than I did in April, but I still 128 lbs to go. I'm trying to remind myself that if I aim to lose .5 lbs a week, that will be a victory that will get me to the goal, and if I lose more then it is a pleasant surprise.

Hello everyone. I joined last week and am just now starting to really work on my goals. I know that with myself its not practical for me to change what I eat. So instead of trying to do that and being disappointed with myself which I think would ruin the whole thing for me I decided to eat smaller portions of my favorite foods. With that I am doing cardio and working on the weights with one certain part of my body monday through friday.
I have never lost weight the "hard" way before. When I have lost weight before it has been in a way that is unhealthy. With this I am looking forward to how I will feel putting the work in.

Every day is a new day, and if you've "messed up" every day, you must be trying to do too much at one time. Start with one thing- before I actually started eating better I was just logging what I normally ate every day for a couple of weeks to see how bad it really was. It kind of grossed me out seeing how much fat and crap I ate on a normal basis, which I think is helping me to eat better. Then I started tweaking things- adding more veggies to everything, subtracting bad carbs for the most part. Then I started exercising. Last week I finally weighed in and put them all together to start my new "way of living" (I won't call it a diet- thats sabotage!) I lost 4 lbs, so apparently my new strategy works.

I just couldn't start everything all at one time or put pressure on myself to lose weight until I had it all together. I'm sure I will still screw up here and there, but I had to do something different this time. I keep doing the same thing (start on a Monday, expect that I will eat right and exercise every day, etc.)and getting the same results (I screw up once, get frustrated and give up). This time is going to be different as I realize how disgusting the stuff I was eating is, and how much I was eating. I didn't think I ate a lot either, and really I didn't, it was just a bunch of very, very, bad choices. No more mayo for this girl for one thing!

Hi everyone,
I haven't posted here yet! So this will be my first post.
I joined Spark people about 1 week ago and was all determined to really eat well and exercise and so far every day I have messed up! It is not going well. I feel really rubbish and like I am never going to be able to do this but I guess this is a new day and I will try again today.
I havent lost any weight this week but I suppose there is always next week to work towards.

Hi everybody I am actually joining this website because it was recommended to me by my nutritionist. I have stage 3 Chronic Kidney Disease which has been worsening. If I drop to stage 4 I will have to get a port, dialysis, etc. I have had to make some immediate lifestyle changes in both my diet and exercise. I love this website because I am able to monitor how much protein, etc. I am getting while maintaining a low sodium diet. I am 4 days into the program and already am starting to notice subtle improvements. I have to lose an estimated 75 lbs. to have the best shot at maintaining my kidneys. I look forward to losing with you all.

Hey everyone! My name is Chantelle and I found SP through their videos on Youtube. I have 43lbs to lose to reach my goal weight of 130lbs. I have given myself 43 weeks to do this which is also the amount of time left before I leave for Paris!
I am also on WW and am looking for some additional support outside of the weekly meetings to keep me going the rest of the time! I am definitaly looking for friends who can help me and who I can help along the way!

hi everyone
I have a long list of ailments, and am developing type II diabetes. My cholesterol is off the roof its so high. So before I have another heart attack I decided to do something special for myself. I have taken off 20 pounds on my own and have another 28 pounds to go. So decided it was time to get serious about my health problems. I am 52 disabled lady, so excercise is extremely hard as I have osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. So I am starting off doing baby steps. Nice to meet you all

Hi, I'm new. My name is Shannon & I have roughly about 90-100lbs to lose. I'm starting over because I felt that I needed a new start. I'm more motivated than ever & I gave myself a realistic time frame to lose 90lbs in a year. So 2 start that off I've been drinking plenty of water emoticon , eating a lot less & cut out soda emoticon . Now all I have 2 do is stay away from junk food & watch my portions. Hi everybody! My name is Beth, and I am from Sevierville, TN. (Just east of Knoxville) I found the Spark App for my phone, and then decided to check out the full site, and it seems to be chocked full of fantastic information...it will take me a while to get completely familiar with it all. I am also a member of WW, which I love, love, love. I have the greatest leader ever, and love my meetings....but I can't live there in that meeting or go home with my leader...so I think this SparkPeople site will be a great tool to pack with me on my weight loss journey!

The hardest part for me is being active. I am a part of a belly dance troupe, and take a 2 hour class once a week. Other than that though...I have so much trouble getting myself to exercise. I have a Wii Fit and EA Sports Active...so this is the week that I intend to blow the dust off and get my self moving and stop being lazy.

Hi all. I'm Denise from deep in the heart of Texas. Single mom to an 8 year old son. When I'm not working from home (isolation and no movement), I'm working at client sites (international travel). I recently had a health scare that required a cardiac cath... terrified me! The results were all clear but it was quite a wake-up call. My ultimate goal seems overwhelming, so I need to learn to set smaller goals and rewards for reaching them. My son learned to play golf this summer and I'd like to get back on the course and play with him. I'm hoping to find some support and accountability on Spark.

Hi Everyone!!! I have been overweight since I was 5 years old. Have been on various weight loss regime but don't seem to keep the weight off after losing it. have thyroid disease so need something to boost metabolism thus boosting weight lose and fat burning mode. Hi! I am Kara and I am 37, married, with 2 girls. 13 years ago I lost 60 pounds and looked *hot* as a size 14. Then I met my husband and it all went downhill from there! After back to back pregnancies, I am 140 pounds heavier, with a goal of losing 160. I've done it all from being really "good" to saying screw it all and not worriying about it. Now I'm worried about my health and dignity! WW was great, but I feel better trying this (FREE!). I'm not always able to get on the internet (I know! I live in the boonies!) but will try to be on as much as I can this summer. Once school starts (I'm a teacher), I'll be able to be on more! Hope some of you can help motivate me and in turn I can motivate you :)

Hi all, I am Becky, back to Spark with a new username and hopefully better luck. I have lost and then regained the same 25 pounds 3 times now and dont want to gain any more. Life is hectic as I am sure it is for us all, but that is no longer an excuse that I will allow myself to use.

Hi everyone! I'm new to Spark as of yesterday! I've used Weight Watchers in the past and while it helped me shed 87 pounds, I've managed to put back on 20 or so. Now I'm just trying to re-motivate and stay motivated, especially since I'm getting married next May! I look forward to getting to know everyone & helping eachother reach our goals!

Hello everybody!! I joined a couple of days ago. Im still trying to learn about all the tools on the website. I am married with no children but want to lose weight so I can have children. I started off weighing 286 and am down to 263. Its very hard but Im trying to keep myself focused and motivated. Good Luck to everyone and I know we can do it!!!!

Hellow everyone! My name is Michelle.

I am 41 years old, and am married, with two wonderful kids. I work as a special ed teacher.

I just joined SP on my doctor's recommendation, and am very happy with what I have discovered here so far. I feel very motivated by this site, and love how flexible the tools are.

I gained weight rapidly during my pregnancies, and then got hit by myasthenia gravis. Now that I am in remission from MG, I want to lose weight and get in shape.

I eventually want to get my weight below 200 pounds, and have a goal of losing 50 pounds for this year. I think, with this site, I can do it.

My name is Samantha. I live in Central Illinois also. I'm 23 and I'm a stay at home mom with 3 kids - a 6 year old, 2 1/2 year old, and 9 month old. I started SP (again) yesterday. I'm VERY motivated right now. Feel like I can do anything. My goal right now is to lose 100 lbs. I have alot on my plate, I know!! And to top it all off I'm starting school next month...full time!

Hi everyone! I live in central Illinois and am not new to trying to loose weight. About 2 years ago I had lost about 50lbs and have since gained about 30 back. Unfortunately, I am a stress eater and my life has been going crazy this past year especially. However, I am determined to lose this weight again and do my best to keep it off this time.

Hi, my name is Shaleen I am 24 a mother of two and not new to weight loss or Spark I have been working on losing weight since September of 2009 and I had successfully lost 56 lbs but since I have gained about 34 of that back which I am very disappointed about but I am ready to get back to it! This is a long hard journey and its full of ups and downs. I am a stress/emotional eater food has always been a comfort for me so when things get tough I have a really hard time not turning to food. I am fed up again and ready to get started on this journey once again with more determination than before. I would like to lose weight for a number of things but most of all my health! That list also includes a wedding/honeymoon, another baby someday and of course to be able to wear all those cute clothes! I know this can be done with diet and exercise because I have done it my biggest obstacle is being patient and knowing results will take time. I love spark people I have met some great people here some of who I regret deeply that I have lost touch with but I hope to make new friends support really is a HUGE part of this journey!

Hi, my name is Cheri. I am 52 years old, married 32 years, 3 daughters (one in high school at home yet), 2 sons-in-law and 4 grands with one due in late September.

I found sparkpeople yesterday while looking for calories for different foods. Thought it would be a great place to keep track of my intake and exercise.

I am needing to lower my cholesterol (251) and my weight (252).

I have no unrealistic expectations but need to see a healthier more fit me.

Hi, I think that most times it is one particular thing that can 'spark' us into doing something about our weight. For me it was catching sight of my reflection in a shop window whilst out with my slim daughter. Who was I kidding that I was just a little overweight? My diet started properly yesterday and shall not end until I am actually happy with the way I look.

I am 45, divorced female with no kids in Atlanta, Georgia. I have a lot of weight to lose but I know that I will lose more if I don't lose the weight to a healthier me. I have lost 100 pounds twice before and convinced I can do it again. I have played with SparkPeople before, this time I want to do SparkPeople and play to win!
What brought me back was that my roommate recently had a stroke due to high blood pressure and diabetes. Luckily I do not have these problems yet. I know though I am a hair from all these problems at my weight of 335. My roommates hospitalization was a wake up call to me and I hope to encourage my roommate through my own actions.

HI ALL -- I am a 43 year old Grandma to 4. I have been married 24 years most of which I have been over weight. I would like to get into shape before I develop health issues. I feel I need to loose a hundred pounds but would be happy with 75.

Way to go Debbie on your success. I find it a challenge to stick to any program long enough to lose 20 pounds. I just start to look good and feel good and then just stop thinking about it and whella it is back and typically more.

I live in Northern Michigan and have been laid off for 2 years. I hope something pans out soon because I really hate to have to move.

Hi - I have been on spark a few times already and when I really stuck with it I lost weight. I have a 14month old and seem to find every excuse in the book not to get back on track. I'm hoping that this is it, I have to do it now!! I am 33 years old, working mom and I travel a lot for work.

I've been on spark before on another username, (off and on for the last 5 years) but I kept having life events get in my way - this last time, from Jan - Feb I lost 20+ pounds, broke my foot, got pregnant, had a terrible miscarriage, and now am back on the road to weight loss, back at the same/similar starting weight too. So a new username maybe will give me the edge I need!

I use Wii Fit and other fitness games for the Wii (Biggest loser kicks my butt!!) and I walk a lot with my husband now. We just bought a new house and moved to an area I've never lived in before - Knoxville, TN. So if anyone's in the area and wants a walking buddy... (I'm sure asking on the Knoxville SparkTeam would be better for getting replies)... I'm always up to meeting people, since I don't know anyone here. (My husband grew up here and therefore he comes with a social network).

I'm currently at 215, and at my height my dream weight is 160. And I've been there before - 5 years ago. Time to get back. I've never lost a significant amount of weight and kept it off though, I simply didn't become overweight until I went to college 5 years ago.

My name is Lori and I think I need to lose about 90 lbs. but I think I have to look at it about 20 lbs. at a time. I keep starting this and when I don't get to a big weight loss quickly I give up until I am back where I started and thoroughly disgusted with myself- how do you guys plan to stay motivated? I definitely need help with that!

Hello Debbie and Holly, I'm Annie! I've known about Spark for awhile, but I just downloaded the app on my phone, which I think will help me track my eating and exercise.

I have had my fitness/weightloss goals "on hold" for 6 years now while dealing with other things and I've finally decided that now is the time to put my focus back where it belongs - on me!

I'm really excited to be here. I don't have a gym buddy where I live now, so I'm hoping that finding friends through Spark help me stick to my goals. :)
