Hi! I just realized there are teams based on when we joined. Neat. I think I read about Sparkpeople and got on line to check it out. I recently retired from teaching, had been counting points, and not getting anywhere. I wanted to add exercise because I was fearful of gaining weight. I knew I needed that component. Sparkpeople has been very motivating. I lose slowly, but I have lost. Hurray!

Hi all - a little late introducing myself - but that is because I just found this team...

My name is Robyn (original screen name huh?) - and I've been doing the weight loss battle for a LONG TIME...I started in 2003...and I was at my highest weight of 218...I have made it a long way - but have done the yo-yo w/ 10 pounds for a little over a year. I still have about 15-25 pounds to go...and would like to try to maintain instead of still needing to lose.

I am pretty active - but don't do a great job w/ the food stuff....

Hello everyone!
I joined Spark because I need the accountability of what I eat. I love going on here and entering my food before I eat.
I now find I struggle with getting all my calories in. I love to work out. I signed up at Golds the same day. I do 30-45 min at 5AM and then cardio classes at 12PM on the weekdays. I'm really lovin the changes and compliments I'm getting.

I joined Spark earlier this month because someone at the fitness center said it was a good way to lose weight. She was right, it is great! I am learning about nutrition, calories and fitness at the same time. What a great website this is turning out to be. I have 40 to 50 pounds to lose, and I tend to lose a few and then gain them back. I am hoping Spark can be the answer for losing pounds permanently. Good luck to all

Hi everyone!! I am also one of the slow ones to exploring everything on the site!!

I am a (just turned) 33 year old that joined the day after my birthday on the 9th. I have recently just moved to CA to be with my boyfriend who is a bit younger than me. I have done nutrisystem and weight-watchers and had success with both but I am jobless after just moving and don't have the funds to pay for it. I would really like to do this for free and not have to pay to lose weight anymore.

Hi everyone ... Glad to be on this team, what a great way to connect people right away.
I had heard about SP and thought that i would probably benefit from the online support community but when i got started, I was thrilled at what it really offerred. I am hooked and want to be dedicated to this approach for a better healthier life!
I am journalling and let me tell you that has been a HUGE step for me ( I had belonged to another group.... yup!) and didn't journal faithfully all week. The best part of journalling online is I can see a better break down of what is left for me to eat instead of just how many fruits left or milk I have left.
The fitness page and doing the 7 day bootcamp with Nicole was interesting and I plan to do the 28 day bootcamp.
The great inspirational stories and motivation makes me a believer ! Looking forward to our team posts and reading the blogs

I'm 40 years old, wife to a US Navy Chief, mother of 3 teenagers, my youngest is severely disabled, and I've been so busy taking care of everyone else, I neglected my own health for years.

Then I almost died.

Three stays in the hospital, including 2 days in ICU, 3 blood transfusions, and 2 surgeries were enough to convince me I needed to get serious about my own health.

I don't normally post to message boards, but I'm starting a new way of living, so I'm jumping in to everything this site has to offer. I'm really looking forward to meeting some new friends!

My name is Dawn and I live in the Austin area. I found Spark People "on accident"...hehe...was doing a search for free weight loss menu plans and the site caught my eye...

Not too sure how this is going to work...but going to give it a shot...

I am 5'0 ft tall...and at my heaviest I weighed 210 lbs...I now weigh 147 lbs...but it seems I have hit a dreaded plateau...not like any other I have ever experienced before. I can get down to 140ish...but it seems difficult to get beyond that...these last 35 lbs are way harder to get rid of!

I am hoping this new course of action will "spark" my body for the final change...

Hi everyone. My name is Rick, I am married (for 27 years) and two grown children. A few years back my wife and I started talking about retirement, what w wanted to do, where we wanted to go and so on. We had always looked forward to retirement as a time for exploration. Doing all the things we put off as we raised or children. Biking across the state, hiking in the mountains, exploring ancient civilizations sites, etc all sounded good but I no longer can climb a flight of stairs without breaking out into a sweat and cutting the grass pit me down for the afternoon. A look in the mirror revealed a person that was no were near ready to bike 50 miles/day! Somewhere along the way I had gained about 120 lbs and pretty much lost all muscle tone.

So here is the deal. I can finish my life in a rocking chair wishing I had taken better care of myself or get with the program and get myself back on track to fulfill our dreams. So here we go -- the first chapter for the rest of our lives.

Deacs_mom: It's a running training program from www.coolrunnings.com. It's designed for someone at no or little activity level to running a 5K in 10 weeks. (though I found that 10 weeks was still to fast for my fitness level so I took it slower than that.) The plan alternates jogging and walking (the first week is a minute of jogging and 1 1/2 minutes of walking.) and slowly increases the amount of jogging you do until you're able to job for 30 minutes at a time. Using their plan makes it easier because I don't have to think about what to do, I just have to do it; one less execuse. There's also a sparkteam doing the program and it has tons of info about common running problems, clothing suggestions for us "fluffier" runners, inspiration, etc.

I've never pictured myself as a runner, but was always somewhat jealous of runners as I watched them from my car window or as they passed me on charity walks. I've always thought I'd have to lose weight first then take it up, but it's been amazing how much more endurance I have now and how much stronger my lungs feel (I don't get winded as easily now!) and it's making my legs look tons better. Don't get me wrong, there are some days that I still cuss through every second, and most people can still walk faster than I run, but it's been really empowering to know that my body is capable of doing more than what I was asking it to do before. I've still got 5 "weeks" to go in my plan, but I can't wait to run my first 5K!

emoticon You can do it! It's amazing what the small tweaks in an unhealthy diet and an exercise routine can do! I was 140 in college, dropped to 118 post college. About 5 lbs of that was due to food poisoning (not a diet strategy I would recommend!) but the rest was just setting a goal (signed up for a 5k), and eating half decently!

Hi! It's great to hear intros from everyone and see your goals! I'm 26, and have been gradually becoming more and more unhealthy--both in activity level and diet. I have become more active in the past year (yay) but have still gained weight (too many treats). I'm 5'2" and 144 lbs now, and would like to eventually get back to 120!! It's kind of a stretch since I haven't been that since college, but I hope I can do it with small tweaks in my current(unhealthy) diet and exercise program. I hope to take it one step at a time and be happy with any small results :)

hello everyone. I'm excited to be here but at the same time very overwhelmed with the content of the website...there's just so many to click on!!! So I'm hoping that being part of this class will guide me through the spark process. I did the food tracker yesterday while at work (yes, I nibble mindlessly at work) and was shocked at how fast those darn calories add up!

Anyhow, I'm 48 years old and I just want to be healthy. My goal is to arrive at 50 healthy in every sense of the word.

I am aware that moderation is key and movement is key. My problem is putting all that awareness to action.

Hi, everybody! I'm so excited, this seems like a fantastic group. I'm Sara (current username is See_jane but thinking of switching soon when I find something that fits better). I've been on Spark for awhile to get tips and hints on healthy lifestyles, but joining this group to actually set my plans in motion and be consistent. I'm a single mom of a hilarious 5 year old girl; I work too much time at a desk job; and even though I'm 30, I'm glad to be still discovering what my true passions are.

My goals right now are to be more active and stronger internally. I'm hoping that plan will make the weight come off on its own. I really want to finally RUN a 5K so I'm working the Couch to 5K plan (Let me know if you're interested, I emoticon C25K even though I'm taking their 10 week program and making it a 30+ week program.) Overall I want to get my junk together enought that people can say "I want to be like her."

Hello,
My name is Hannah and I am 23 years old. I joined Sparkpeople in hopes of losing weight and also to gain tips on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. My starting weight is 183.4 and I hope to get down to 130 before May 2011. My best friend is getting married to my husband's best friend (they met at my graduation) and I want to look amazing! Hey Everyone!

I'm excited to be on Day Four of my new beginning - my LAST new beginning!!! I'm a busy mom of a total of five young adults (2 are mine, 3 are his), working full-time and working on my master's degree.

I finally realized that the reason I was not able to stick to previous programs is because they just were not FUN!! So I did a google search for "ways to have fun counting calories or losing weight" and BINGO!! I made it to this site.

I am really impressed with the site and the community so far and am very grateful to have finally landed here. I like that there is an actual program and there are leaders everywhere to help us stay on track and that there are fun competitive spark points to keep me doing what I need to be doing.

HOORAY!!! On to a new me!!!

HI All,
I joined SP yesterday and am trying to navigate the site and determine a game plan. I am 50+ years old, married,2 dogs,1 cat,and many transitions during the past few months.I am excited about the support,structure, and accountability of the SP community and look forward to share in the excitement of others as they achieve their weight loss goals.I am excited to begin my own heathy lifestyle journey and will plan to make progress at a slow but steady pace.

Hi I'm Maddie. I'm 23 but I'm super close to being 24. (I only have until the 20th!) I told myself I was going to join SP on my birthday, as a "gift" to myself.

I'm pretty unhealthy...at least, I feel that way. I always feel tired and sluggish, my back hurts sometimes for no reason...I can't really explain it I just generally feel not that great. I eat junk food all the time and I'm a bank teller so I spend 8 or 9 hours sitting at a desk all day. Eating Reese's and drinking soda. Of course!

(Yesterday all I ate was: Reese's, Coke, french toast from Burger King, pizza)

I don't want to feel this way anymore. I was trying to wait for my birthday so that the day I choose to live a healthier lifestyle can be a big, important day but I figure why wait? Early presents are still great!

Hey I'm Kristen, 22, with about 40 lbs to lose in order to be at my ideal weight. I'm an emotional eater and have been my whole life so that is a battle I fight daily. My main goal is to avoid the obesity that plagues my family but I'm not entirely sure where to start. I go to the gym regularly and eat healthily but I have a horrible addiction to soda and caffeine due to sleep problems. I'm hoping that SP will help me get my life back on track and under control. :)

Hi, Shawn here, 46, happily married (20 plus yrs) 18yr old son, work and take at least one class a semester at our local CC, and we have 6 chickens and 2 cats complete our menagerie.

I lost 55 lbs when I was 38-(the right way it took a year,& I was buff!) I almost made it to my goal when I blew my shoulder out at work and that Oh-so-slippery slope grabbed me. Now 8 yrs later I weigh even more than before.

I am hoping with the support and accountability here I will be able to find the tools to keep it off this time, I can do it for a while the trick will be the life time.

Hi, I'm Stephanie. I joined yesterday and so far am soooo glad I did! I have been half-heartedly been doing weightwatchers for the past 9 months...well, pretty much since I got married! Need something to jumpstart things...I know what I need to do, I just need to do it and do it consistently...Looking forward to getting to know all of you!

Hi! My name is Melissa. Have battled with my weight..well actually that is incorrect...to be completely honest I have never "battled" with my weight. I have had a few half hearted "skirmishes" over the years. Decided I need to do something and have decided that Sparkpeople may be the way to do it. I am 41, married, two kids, two cats. Hey guys, I'm Kelsey! I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia last December and have been living with the symptoms for the last three years. I used to be a high level competitive swimmer and since developing fibromyalgia I've gotten into a lot of bad fitness and eating habits while trying to cope. I'm hoping to lead a healthier lifestyle, feel better, and lose the freshman 15!

I just wanted to let everybody know that I AM NOT really a member of this team. As I started May 9, 2010 but I am having VERY Serious Technical problems and didnt want you to think that I was a Lump on a log, plus I am documenting everything that my SP account WILL let me do and WILL NOT let me do. Sorry for the inconvenience. And if any of you are experiencing technical problems, keep keeping on and don't get discouraged. I like SparkPeople - I just am very frustrated right now with these Technical issues. It makes a fat girl eat way too much Junk food. I guess I am an Emotional Eater!

Hi I am Lisa, I am 42 and I have 10-15 pounds to lose. I have been stuck at my current weight for a few months, so it is getting frustrating. I am hoping that if I get back on track and record what I am eating I will get past this plateau. I love working out and have no problem sticking to my workout plan but I am having trouble breaking some of my bad eating habits. i look forward to hearing from everyone.

Hi everyone! I've got about 15-20 pounds of baby weight still left to lose (boys are now 4 & 2) AND I'm going to be 40 next year! So, I figured now is the time to do it. I don't want to be fat forever and it's not going to get any easier to drop the pounds if I wait any longer. I'm really hoping to both get and give some great support here at SparkPeople and make my goals a reality!

I've technically been signed up for spark people since last year but beyond the initial sign up which I did to keep someone else happy I've never signed in so this is really the first time I've used it I figured that put me in this class with everyone else starting out this week!!

Hi, I'm Cindy. I've been overweight since my first pregnancy 11 years ago. Just have never been able keep it off after losing it on every diet out there. I have gained 103 lbs since my first pregnancy, and I not only want it gone, but need it gone due to health reasons. And, I don't want to be known as the "fat mom" lol. Hi everyone! I'm Kristin...I just became a mommy in January and am looking to lose the weight that I put on during pregnancy, plus some additional. My goal is to go from 168 lbs. to 130 before next summer, when my husband and I plan to try for another baby!
