I most certainly can relate. It is a constant battle to fight the middle age poundage! Being peri menopause has not help any.

As for family history, well strokes, heart conditions and dementia runs in my family too. My dad had stents put in many years ago and had several stokes. He passed away about 31/2 years ago. He started to get dementia towards the end. We started seeing signs of dementia at the same time. It got worst this past year but she is healthy and seems happy.

Come joins us at the "Coffee Hut" and discuss whatever is on your mind.

take care, Anne

Hey!

I've been on, then off, and back on SP now. I have seen these "classes" mentioned in the past but never took the time to find out more. Today I saw this option to explore Teams by issue or topic and also by class, and that's how I found you, my own classmates!! Howdy!

I'm dealing with middle-age pudge and a sweet tooth, those are my main challenges. I can't say I have a very dramatic history or plan, just want to make running a habit and stay just as healthy as I can, for as long as I can.

My family history has strokes and heart conditions and (lately) dementias in old age, so I'm eager to live every day to the fullest, and to avoid or stave off that historic trend.

I am retired from a career in federal IT and now volunteer full time with an animal welfare organization in Maryland. I've done a lot of traveling but my beloved husband is not a plane- or boat- passenger so now we mostly garden, visit with family, or make day trips in our "spare time." I'd love to get my husband a bit more active, we used to weight train together years ago. I'm a bit better at grabbing time for self-care than he is, though.

Can anyone relate? Oh, I'm using the Couch to 5K (C25K) program to get running again, right now, and resuming strength training (so far, on my own).

Isn't it strange when you happen upon an old post that someone (it was me right?) must have written in the past but you can't recall having done so?

Almost 2 years to the month of my first finding the Spark, losing the Spark, and then looking for it again for the past year or so...

Here I am again, pushing 250 lbs (or 114 kg)...I want to call it I can't move on weight but that's just giving a name to it.

Revision, lose 100 lbs by April 2, 2014. That's 24 months to lose as much as I can because I know 149 lbs is a bit unrealistic but what the hey!

I didn't win the Mega-Millions jackpot but at least try to accomplish the few things that I have control over.

Wanted to finally stop by to say, I'm baaaack. Ha, Well i was hardly here before then GO O ONE!

Then July 7th 2011 i got back so wondered if i should really be a member of this group. And ya know what? I am happy to be if that is ok? Onenel is always supportive ANd of course Anne, you've got wise and sweet words often. Sound like a lot o'cool people up there too^^^ Great inspiration to be found.

Thanks for being here now that i'm ready to face having run away and come b ack.

In the meantime, I gained a 10er or so and my sister and mother lost more than 100 between them -- my sister has lost more tan that in a little over that time. Just the last couple of days we spent together and it is amazing what perserverence and support from others-- my mother who lives near and TOPS has done! She also needs a bit more emotional support getting used to the idea of a much slimmmmmer /different her

But i have to say they have been inspirations to me, btw my brother and father have also lost a lot and been able to go off several medicines. Whereas I, the thin one have gained almost a person in fat.

I've not been an on off dieter so much in my life as much as an ON with the sugar/ then weight then off with some then ON with lots a few times. Enough to have broken down my strength and ability to heal from some injuries. ARGH.

Well can't go back and change what coulda been. so Time to start from here, eh? Christmas in July. I've given myself this 100/1 Year goal one quarter at a time =--tracking each DAY. Those are my measurable goals.

Cheers for where we are now and where we are going-- to better health--whatever that means to each of us.

dDawn

Welcome Derek.
You have come to the right place. Our team is small (but growing) and we are all very supportive of each other. Life it tough sometimes and we tend to fall off course, but with a little help we can get back on track and things will all get better.

Hey Derek...

I posted on your blog, but will cheer ya on here too....

I have been sitting at 290-295 since Dec... it has been so frustrating to step on the scales and see the same "range' of numbers over and over again... after getting down to 284 for a short while... But i am as Anne Says... practicing for "maintainability" ... I just wish i was dropping... One of these days... I will be down where we need me to be...

I just went through a few ups and downs with surgery, and cholesterol meds causing joint pain, worse than the fibromyalsia and other chronic pain issues i have ...

Ok I am trying to not make this about me.. but about YOU and the good thing you are doing by "Jumping back in-- and restarting" .... WELCOME!!! emoticon

Hello all,

I'm in my late 30's and as of November 2010, divorced. No children, no alimony, just pain, suffering & memories (good & bad).

It seems as though I've always had weight issues resulting in me doing some really stupid things to my body including getting a Lap Band which for me didn't do anything other than give me additional eating problems. I've lost 21 lbs since the Lap Band (I was 261 in 2008) but have been hovering between 221 and 239 lbs over the course of the last year (2010).

My knee tells me when I'm getting heavy again b/c it gives me pain when I get near the 239 lb mark. When it's cold, I go into hibernation mode & eat like a bear. Stress & comfort food are as much my enemy as procrastination & depression.

My start last May was great but I couldn't keep it going. I've fallen and feel like I can't get up!

Wanting to be healthy is a really nice dream. Unfortunately, it's a dream that seems out of reach at the present time. Despite these setbacks, here I am again, on sparkpeople.com.

Ideally, I would like to be under 200 lbs and stay there! Since I'm dreaming, I might as well say that I'd like to be at a healthy weight of say, 165 to 170 lbs. I'm finishing up my 2nd undergraduate degree at Rutgers University in New Brunswick & will be re-entering the ranks of the unemployed soon (again but with another $20k in debt).

I'm Ashley. I'm 27 and living in northern Kentucky. I've been married for 2 years (next month) and we don't have kids yet, but planning on it soon.

I don't have a whole lot of weight to lose, but I'm aiming to lose 20-25 lbs. I've been stuck with this weight for a long time, and I have motivation and energy problems when it comes to working out. I'm trying to turn a new leaf and try some new things to help jump start it.

I wish everyone the best of luck and health and happiness in their journeys!

ok i am slow :)

But with 4 kids, and 4 adults living in my household.. there is good reasons for my slowness!

I am Aria, I am 39 yrs old. As i said, i have 4 kids: 1 son by birth, and 3 girls by heart - 12g, 10b, 10g, 8g. We deal with my son, and a diagnosis of Asperger's daily. We deal with the 3 girls, each weekend as they come 'home' to their dad's.

I have lost over 40 lbs in the last 2 yrs. Yes i am slow :) I told you i was! But it is staying off! Yes i may go up 3 or 4 lbs and back down 3 -4 lbs... but i am not putting it all or more back on... and i never plan to do that again!

I came out of a very yuckie (abusive and just not good) life situation about 4 yrs ago. And after that, I spent a lot of time on "recovery" and learning to like me again. Part of that liking me, is getting the weight off, letting go of the guilt that i put myself through.. and the eating that did to hide from guilt. :)

So Today, although i deal with a lot of medical issues on a day to day basis, walk with a cane... and won't run a race anytime soon -- as i said i am slow.. but that's OKay cuz I am me!

Hi, I'm Clair, living in Lexington, KY currently.
I have 2 wonderful children, 4 & 6 yo currently, who keep me entertained constantly! My husband, who is also my best friend, and so supportive in all I/we do. I work full time, love my current job. I recently got addicted to running, and am hoping to stay injury free so that I can pursue this further, and hopefully only take steps forward (instead of backward during my injuries last year).
