Hey guys! I'm Nana! I've been on Sparks off and on since 2007, I actually deleted my first account and started this one because I'd look at the reports and I'd be great for a month and then couple months go by and I'd gain everything back. It was just the perfect example of my yo-yo mentality. I've only been able to stick to a good healthy diet once(lasted about 5 months, christmas was my downfall) in my entire life. So I'm glad to see other people with the same problem. I'm relatively healthy, I work out regularly three times a week, its the food that gets me. So ultimately I'm just trying to lose that extra ten pounds of fast food weight and keep it off ^_^

I'm 55, soon to be 56. I'm married to my wonderful hubby Bob, and I have a grown son named Chris, that's my pride and joy. I talk about both a lot in blogs at times. I'm working to lose some weight thru healthier eating and more exercise. I'm not using a scale to determine my progress. I'll be using a tape measurer once a week to see my progress and how my clothes are fitting. The main goal is to feel better about myself and to have more energy, regardless of my size. I'm trying to be a lot more active than I had been. I'm getting out and working in the yard, doing personal projects like sewing, and hubby and I have started back going fishing. Anything to be more active. I don't expect to lose the weight overnight ( wouldn't it be great if we could ?), but I know if I continue to go as I am now, I will get there over time.

Hi Carol -- so glad you saw my post on that other team (I just joined 5'3 and under) and decided to join us. We are a very small group of ladies -- and not too terribly active -- but it is with open arms that we welcome you! I'm SCOTMAMA, you can call me Eve.
Yo-Yo can be different things for different people. For me it is the constant yo-yo of going up and down between and couple of pounds. However as time goes on I find I am doing the yo-yo between smaller and smaller numbers. Still have a few to go though, but getting down toward my last 10.
For other people yo-yo can mean they stay on a more or less strict diet for a period of time, losing much of their excess weight. Then they go back to their old way of eating and put it all back on, usually with some to spare. I really feel sorry for that type.
Whichever type you are, we need to concentrate on NOT being on a diet, but a new healthier type of lifestyle -- perhaps not ELIMINATING the foods that pack on the pounds, but for sure cutting down on the portions we allow ourselves. And . . . . . we all need to realize that we will never reach our goals if we don't exercise to make it happen. My main form of exercise is to just walk -- it's something everyone can do, no equipment needed, and it's free. Of course in the summer where we live it is quite a challenge. That's why I try to get up about 5:30 in the morning when I'm in the Glendale area in the summer. You know what I mean!

Hi, Everyone
I've been on SparkPeople for quite a while but today I read a post on another team from SCOTMAMA and saw this team on her SparkPage. My only thought was, "Wow, a team made with me in mind!" I have yo-yo'd my entire life - and I mean my entire life. I can remember this starting way back in grade school and it still continues to this day. I am a 63 yr. old grandmother and I'm still a yo-yo dieter . I am at a point where I want to stop the lunacy and just reach my very realistic goal weight and stay there. I did lose about 15 lbs. a year ago and I've managed to keep most of that off but I have another 25 lbs. I'd like to shed. I look forward to sharing this journey with all of you.

That is a problem, isn't it, Carol? You make it to your goal, but then you think you can start to eat all your favorite foods again, and before you know it -- wham! the clothes don't fit any more.
I think the better way to do it is to make a lifestyle change! Make little changes that will always be that way -- so maybe in the "old" life you always had bacon and eggs for breakfast! It was great for "back then." but now we're in the NEW LIFESTYLE, so maybe the new choice will be a fruit smoothie for breakfast, and once a month treat yourself to breakfast out with friends, and make that your splurge for the month -- eat whatever sounds good. You'll find that sometimes the rich, fattening favorites of yesteryear are no longer what you desire.
And could it be your friends? Hang around with healthy friends and you do better -- so look around you and check out what you see!

Thanks for the welcome. I was always tiny and thin till after kids and hitting late 20's...still not such a bad weight till late 30's then continuing to creep on till I broke my leg winter of my early to mid 40's...add on another 10 there,,,so drastic moves needed,,,I did Herbal Magic and went from size 18 to size 3 in 6 months,,it bounced up maybe 5 pounds and was holding. ...Then I started suffering worst tummy trouble then ever before,,( and I've dealt with tummy issues all my life)diagnosed with diverticular disease and had a small tumor removed from my colon and a few paulips from throat and colon....and here begins major YOYOING..been up and down several pound over the last 6 years,,,getting harder to get the down working though so here I am,,,Hope We can all encourage each other along to good health and better weights

You are more than welcome to stick around. And when I refer to yo-yo being 3 to 10 pounds, I'm talking about how most of us go up a few pounds, then maybe in the same week, start down a pound or two -- or the other way around. It would be nice if everyone could just get into healthy living and have the scale consistently go down, down, down -- but life doesn't work like that for most of us. Sure they do it on "Biggest Loser" because their food is being drastically restricted and they exercise like there is no tomorrow. But in the real world we all know that we don't make the right choices each and every day -- therefore we yo-yo. Show me the person who has lost every single day for a month and I'll show you a liar (or a robot) lol

Hi, everyone! Thanks, Eve, for the nice welcome!
I've just read the comments on the topic "All About Me!" and I think I may be in the wrong club. To me the yo-yo range isn't "3 to 10 pounds" that you speak of, Eve -- to me the range is more like 80 pounds lost, 100 eventually gained, 100 lost, 120 gained, 100 lost, 150 gained, with some smaller fluctuations along the way. I did have the smaller "3 to 10 pounds" fluctuations in my teens and twenties after loosing 80 pounds with Weight Watchers at the age of 17.
In my case, the yo-yo phenomenon is due to the metabolism slowing down because of successive dieting periods followed by periods of not dieting. Every single time, the weight goes back up and then further up. Because of this, I had given up on weight loss in the last years (2 or 3, I don't remember), with the belief that my weight would stabilize itself -- unfortunately, it did eventually go up somehow. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I often eat the whole package, the whole bowl or the whole recipe that I had prepared to have leftovers for future meals. I would say that often is my trigger for overeating or bingeing -- I become obsessed with finishing off the whole thing.
If you don't mind, I'll stick around anyway -- I am new at SP (May 1st) and on the lookout for friends with a compatible outlook.

Cathy! So happy that you joined the Team! We now have 5 -- pretty good in such a short time.
I believe one of the secrets of NOT yo-yo'ing would be to have at least one meal per day that is strictly fruits/veggies. With that in mind I think I will start a little game for us to do listing the last fruit and/or veggie we ate. At least we'll be getting one in. I'm a big fan of fruits and veggies though and many days find I eat no meat at all. So as a rule, 3 days a week or so I will have a nice breakfast of turkey bacon, an egg and whole wheat toast -- just to get in more protein.

Hi team -- Cathy here -- I am a definite Yo-yo looking to break that string
I have several triggers -- fresh soft bread, any kind of chocolate candy and ice cream are a few -- I have found I just need to not have them in my house or at the very least get single serving size that I can have if the "need" gets to me too much.

Grabbing the chocolate has a familiar ring to it, my addiction is chocolate covered raisins. Used to go for the yogurt covered variety, but read that the chocolate is actually better for you than the yogurt who would have dreamed that??? I, also, have put them in a hard-to-reach spot where I have to very purposefully reach and move things to get at them. It does seem to help a little rather than having them just sitting there on the counter waiting for me to scoop up a handful. And to prove it my weight is on it's downward journey again!

Hi my friend! OK, so there are only two of us so far, but I know as our numbers grow, our pounds will go down. We can confess our weaknesses, and because of having to admit that we DID THEM, perhaps it will keep us on the straight and narrow. I know one of my worst habits is taking a handful of chocolate covered raisins and chomping them down -- and it all shows up on the feared scale! What's your worst habit?
