Welcome Catherine. I also walk for exercise. The color run sounds like fun. We have one here each year. I might get brave enough to try.

Hello, my name is Catherine. I live in the frozen tundra of WI...I am not new to Sparkpeople...just starting over again. I am new to this team though. I feel this is where God sent me, and I feel very comfortable sharing my trials and triumphs here among people in my age category. I lost 40 lbs my first time around and had a goal weight of 150, I have decided to up the anti and aim for 140 so that I am in a healthy BMI range. My only source of exercise at the moment is Walking away the Pounds with Leslie Sansone. I find it is doable for an ole' fart like me. I have also added a courageous goal of doing a Color Run, something I would never have committed to before , but I am soooo inspired by what I have seen here that I decided to aim high this time. I had to go back to the basics of starting with the South Beach Diet to get my sugar cravings under control. Today is my first day. I am counting on you all for encouragement, because I really feel that it takes a village to accomplish my goals. emoticon

Looking forward to chatting with all of you
Catherine

Be grateful for every little success.

Hi, I'm back. Hope to be able to stay involved with sparkpeople this time around. Still having computer issues but will do what I can.
To those that don't know me and a reminder to those that do, I'm Vicki. I'm 57 years old and have about 68 lbs to lose. I only lost 6 lbs in 2013 so am really hoping to do much better this year.
I am married to Bob and he's just had to get a pacemaker/defibrullator in March, and is still adjusting to having a very weak heart (20% heart strength), so I tend to stress over his health a lot, and when I'm stressing out, I tend to eat more than I should. So I will be working on making healthier food choices over time.

Hi, My name is Gaye, and I live in MI (it is really cold here right now). I am 65 and have been with Spark since October 2008. I lost all my weight (100 pounds that time) then gradually gained back 50 of it...but turned it around again and now am 15-20 pounds from goal. I am REALLY trying to get to maintenance. I sort of "followed" ONEKIDSMOM when I saw this team on her page. I like the over 50 or over 60 teams...I seem to be able to relate more emoticon I am looking forward to the change of this group. Thanks for having me!

Hi, Barb here. Turn 50 tomorrow , Nov 12th. I have been with spark people since last year. Joined June of 2012. Last year I lost 40 lbs and then decided to quit smoking. Not only will I be 50 on the 12th, but will be smoke free for 1 year. Needless to say I gained 18lbs when I quit smoking. Turning it back around and have lost 3lbs the last 2 weeks. Excited to get to know everyone.

Wow, this is timely! I just had a major re-do of my obstacle course to being fit again. My doctor wanted me to slow it down to the pace of a turtle! LOL I saw this team on a SparkFriends page: ONEKIDSMOM and decided it was for me. Thanks for being here and I hope to interact with you all.

Hi, I am Kate and I'm glad to be on the team! Thanks for the invitation :) I am 52, married, live in Indiana and am an RN. After quitting smoking on Jan 30, 2013, I began my journey to weight loss & fitness on June 1, 2013 at 261 pounds.I have lost 12 pounds since then. I started to walk each evening and discovered how very slow I was, so I nicknamed myself La Tortuga LOL.That's alright though! I want these lifestyle changes to stick, so I'm OK moving a little slow at first :) Looking forward to sharing this journey with you all :)

Blessings,

Kate

Rejoined, final time...

Let's get re-aquainted.
I'm Vicki and I'm 56 years old.
I got rid of the scale and am working to drop inches. I'm going to the fitness center 3 times a week and working out at home 3 days. I rest up on Sundays.
My goal is to reclaim my health and over time go from a 3XL down to a size Large.

Hiya, Jean, welcome to the team! I have to admit, I figure there's no wrong kind of loser - I think most of us have been on that same two steps forward - one step backward track. Way back when one of the turtles posted a quote that went something like "Success consists of getting up one more time than you fall." So while I try not to fall I mostly focus not on perfectionism (okay, I admit, that's a tough one for me, lol) but on persistence.

So far, so good... but don't bet the farm on me... emoticon

I joined Spark on May 2, 2008 and lost 50 lbs, my goal weight, but did not watch out during maintenance and have regained 30 lbs. So here I am again to get the excess weight down. But this time, I will be aware of everything I put in my mouth.

It seems like 4 1/2 years would teach me something...I have been on several teams trying to "get it right" and so far I am the wrong kind of "loser". emoticon emoticon

Hi, Amy, welcome to the herd! I totally agree with you about dividing weightloss into small units - I think it works so much better when you have a 'doable' number to aim for.

I have about 95 lbs to lose to reach my goal but am working on 5 lbs at a time. It sounds like losing 5 lbs is a lot more manageable than saying I need to lose 95 lbs. I lose weight very slowly and I yo-yo a lot, but I really want this weight off.
I've tried a number of different plans but I think for me it's a matter of cutting calories but making the most of what calories I do allow myself. So I'm trying to eat more fresh produce and fruits, and limiting all the junk foods. I do eat meat but am working to cut out a good portion of that and limit it to mainly fish and chicken.
My exercise is sporatic at the best. I'll go days and not do much then for a week or two go crazy with activities that are considered exercise. I need to get more into a regular routine of daily exercise that I enjoy doing.

I'm a 56 year old woman that's tried for the last 7 years to lose the weight I gained thru menopause and all I did was gain 110 lbs even though I stepped on the scale daily.
For me, the biggest change is that I no longer will use the scale to measure my progress. It undermines how I feel about myself, so unless I see a doctor and have to be weighed there, I won't step on a scale again. I will use a tape measurer once a month to see what progress if any I'm making.
Food wise, I'm counting calories and doing my best to stay under 1400 grams a day.
In the past I did low carb but since marriage, it's impossible to stick to the plan without a LOT of aggrivation. Hubby loves his junk foods and it's hard for me to stay away from them if they're in the house. So I'm working to have healthier snacks for me so his aren't so tempting.
I'm making sure I do something active outdoors each day for at least 30 minutes and I make sure to drink at least 9 glasses of water daily.

Hi,
I'm 60 years old and have lost so far almost 40 pounds VERY slowly. It took me 2 1/2 years of diet/exercise to get this far. After a couple vacations, I gained back 4 pounds and can't even get them back off. I am committed though to get to my goal and letting it take as long as it needs to but boy it is hard to be patient. I am as of today 14 pounds from my goal. When successful I follow the 17 day diet (mostly natural lean meats, veggies, greek yogurt and fruit and little or no sugar/flour) and exercise 5-6 days a week, 2 hours a day. Right now I'm not following that diet, just staying within calorie range and not losing anything so I guess that tells me something but summer seems to have too many events that involve bad for me foods and alcohol. I was on a slow loser team but found this one and figured slow loser and over 50---even more of a challenge so hoping we can support one another in this S-L-O-W process.

emoticon I am new to this team. I have been Sparking since January 2012. I have looked around the site and I really do like SparkPeople. My hubby says that this is really working for me. I have not given up like I usually do. As for teams, I have joined a few and have left a few. I have looked for a team that welcomes new members and one that supports the team mates. I am willing to be an active and supportive member. This group has been emoticon . I believe that you find a group that you "click" with and go from their. I am a true emoticon . I will never be the emoticon . I am 51 and I know what works for me-I just have to stick with it and do it! I appreciate all the support that I have received-you all are great! Spark On! emoticon

New username, new outlook...

emoticon Thought I'd better introduce myself, for those that don't know me.
I'm Vicki and I live in Florida.
I'm working towards making the healthiest choices I can when it comes to taking care of myself.
I want to make exercise a top priority as I have a couple of health issues that exercise would improve. Also it would definately give me more energy.
I am basically trying to keep all my nutritional numbers within a set goal I think will work for me. It's not strictly any one specific program. If I had to push it, I'd be more inclined to say it's a lower carb plan.
I'm working to lose about 100 lbs but have no set time to lose it in. I'd love to lose it over the next couple of years, but I tend to be a very slow loser. So I'll take it one pound at a time.

I'm VB and I live in Florida.
I'm working towards making the healthiest choices I can when it comes to taking care of myself. I've put away the scale and will no longer weigh myself except when at the doctors office. I don't want to define who I am ever again by a number on the scale. I've done that for way too many years.
I do want to make exercise a top priority as I have a couple of health issues that exercise would improve. Also it would definately give me more energy.
I'll basically be doing a low fat plan because I feel it's the healthiest way to eat. I want to incorporate a lot more veggies and fruits into my food plan and a lot less red meats and oils as they don't agree with me very much. I don't consider this a diet since this will be the way I eat from now on.

Hi, I'm Robin! I turn 51 in April. I am looking for a group that is active enough to get encouragement and interact some, but not so busy I feel overwhelmed or get lost in the crowd. Your Mama turtle saw me post on another team and invited me here. It looks promising! I already feel welcome. I homeschool my 14 year old daughter and have two 20 year olds still living at home working. My 23 year old lives with my parents and helps them out.

My husband, and two daughters living at home all need to lose weight and are working to change lifestyle. My 14 year old is a member of Sparkteens. My 20 year old uses a different site, but I've encouraged her to try out Spark People.

I've been working at losing weight and changing my lifestyle since Oct. 2007. I started at 204 lbs, have gotten as low as 169, but am back up at 186 (as of this morning.) I am not giving up and I refuse to buy larger sized clothes. So I got a wake up call this past weekend when I realized how tight and uncomfortable my pants have become and yesterday the scale was 1 pound away from reaching 190. yikes!

I'm doing the Fast Break (again), but this time more focused. I'm going to try to do the Spark program.

Gotta go now and get started with school. Thank you for the welcomes.

Robin

I have two inactive blogs. When I get active with them again, I'll post my links. For now am just blogging here on Spark People.

Decided to change my intro somewhat...
Hi, I'm Vicki and I'm 55 years old, and I'm fat! That's going to change though.
I want to lose 100 lbs but for now am working on about 25 lbs of it. I think I'll work towards mini goals to reach the ultimate goal. I have no idea if I can manage it in 2 years time or not. It could take longer. The main thing is getting it down steadily. I found out recently I have rheumatoid arthritis, and inflammation of my spine and joints along my hips and thighs. I'm also enemic. I'm taking vitamins to help with the anemia but the other I'm working towards taking care of by losing the weight and getting in a lot more exercise daily than I have been doing. Some days I can walk for 30 minutes and some days for 3 hours. It depends on the pain level I'm having at the time. I used to be much more active than I am now. I tend to be lazy when it comes to exericise. But I know once I get started I'll feel better. Anyway, I'm really hoping this team and a few others can help me stay focused and motivated to keep on track. My hubby can throw a wrench into things at the drop of a hat and it makes me just feel like "what's the use". So I'm counting on my fellow sparkers to help me.

Hi, Jill, welcome to the 'herd'! Congrats on the weightloss so far - like you, I still have a ways (weighs, lol) to go, but slow and sure is definitely beneficial! Thinks me...

I just joined this Team tonight and I'm looking forward to getting to know others on it. I've lost 24#s but have a very long way to reach my goal weight!! I love SP and have made so many wonderful friends here. I love taking part in the Challenges as they help motivate me. I exercise, most days, about 30 minutes but will like to work up to more very soon. I've restarted my Healthy Journey on Jan. 1st and I'm still very motivated to get as Healthy as I can.

I signed up for this team a few hours ago. I left to drive the school bus, I come back to welcomes and messages on my page. Thank you, turtles!!! Nana, I think I can speak for the herd: we'd probably be hurt if you DIDN'T join us, lol! Love your quote for the trip to the moon. Drop a line to ONEKIDSMOM (Barb) and she can help you with the trip - she keeps the stats and is top-notch at figuring out how fitness besides actual walking can apply.

Hi all turtles. I've just signed up for your team. You sound like a group that I'd fit right in with. May I join you? I like the idea of walking to the moon. One of my favorite quotes has always been "Shoot for the moon, if you miss, you'll land among the stars." So I'm all for shooting for the moon and helping us all get there by adding my steps/miles. I've recently gotten a pedometer and I keep track of my steps. I can convert those steps to miles. Do I understand correctly, the proper way to do this as a team member is to report my total miles per week? I look forward to getting to know each of you better. Here's to me getting motivation from you and me returning it to you. And thank you in advance, if it's all right that I join you all.

Agreed. You'll do fine here.

I stopped by your page and got a better look at your boat. Very nice. I bet it's relaxing being out on the water, leaving all your cares behind.

Well, Nola, make sure you're eating correctly. No skimping on the food to get a fast start. It doesn't work. Also, muscle weighs more than fat, but helps you burn fat. So you may weigh more, but you'll be looking different.

Kasey, you are so right. My old lady sluggish brain needs to recharge!

I agree with ShapNUp, Nola: you are losing nearly three pounds / month, and as an average, that is a very good pace and will make it easier to keep it off.

'nd as for YOU, Christi - I figure it just takes you awhile to think up those sassy retorts! emoticon

Hi Nola,

Welcome. I think 65 pounds in 2 years is awesome! We aren't about fast on this team. Slow and steady and having fun. emoticon

Kasey, I didn't mean to make you lose all that sleep by not responding. Totally my fault. Unlike all the other things you blame me for. emoticon emoticon

Yes it is kind of like a Slowest Loser Herd. I started it because I got tired of people telling me that when you are over 50, or Post Menopausal, or whatever that you could not lose weight. We can and do lose weight. It may be a slow, bumpy road at times, and there may be detours, but we can succeed if we are persistent.

I just checked out the 'food' emoticons because I thought it might be fun to post 'nutty turtles' or something. There's a ton of pictures of stuff like cake, donuts, ice cream cone, even chocolate candy. (And yes, there's plenty of pictures of healthy stuff, too.) How come we have all these pictures of rich, eat-very-rarely foods and no pictures of any kind of nuts? Which are supposed to be good for you? emoticon
