Hi Cheryle51!
I totally agree with you on the "out to eat" drain on your budget. What we find helpful is to make sure there are foods at home that we all like (burgers are a big hit - from Sams or BJ's, for the best prices) and to keep track of how much we save every time we stay home for dinner (Apx. $40-$80.) Breakfast was a huge savings - we make a big batch of pancakes, bacon and fresh OJ at home. For four people, that would be $50 in our area, plus tax and tip. And, we'd have to wait to sit down and we'd have to hope for good service - all not problems in our little dining area! Get your kids to help in whatever way they are willing, whether it's table-setting or assisting with cooking, and be sure to laugh a little over the meal. The idea of going out to eat is usually convenience and enjoyment. If you can do it at home and stay in budget, well, that's a real home run for your entire family!

Slow and steady will still get me to my goal.

Hello!
I am new to this group and budgeting period. Before we adopted our four children, money was never an issue. With four children, two of them boys 18 and 22, groceries are a huge expense. We just had a graduation party for two of our children and went on vacation. Now that we are back home, we are trying really hard to not spend any money that is not necessary. We have decided that for the month of August we are not going to go out to eat. This is where I feel a lot of our money goes to also.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger...

Hello people! I'm new to this, and actually to any budget program in general. I am desperate to get my spending under control, my bills paid off, and my credit strengthened. Saving some money would be nice as well!

Hello Everyone,
I know I sent out the introduction message last month; thanks to all that replied. With the summer coming up, and our "NO SPEND" message not forgotten, I just wanted to see what favorite "NO SPEND" activities you find for yourself and the people in your lives? Mine has become finding projects around the house that I've already accumulated supplies for, then forgotten. I have started saving seeds from my neglected garden, clearing the clutter from a corner of the garage to organize space to plant, and gathering and cleaning the flower pots I've hidden around the yard. I enjoy it, but I forget that I have it. Now, I have a sticky note on my PC - 15 minutes on the garden. It's been fun, free, and oddly relaxing. Anyone else finding opportunities that keep you out of the stores?

Slow and steady will still get me to my goal.

@Jtuba - good morning - it is very wise to keep on top of your debts - they can so easily become monster problems -
i would suggest going to cash in every way possible-
also using only one card - so your monthly statement will reflect what you are putting on credit.
it is very easy to 'spread it over several' statements and pat yourself in to a false sense of 'well this isn't so bad really'.
we all know we need established credit in todays world- but we don't have to USE IT ALL THE TIME - cash is still here and it is not going away any time soon.
the problem is finding the buying power our dollar used to have - so that means really hunting for bargains - in proximity to your shopping habits -
it is not a sale if you spend tons of time and gas to get to it!.
i shop only the sales every week for food - and i am now in the habit of looking over what i already have in the house.
i also don't fall for BUY TEN CAUSE IT IS ON SALE syndrome anymore. how much coffee and snapple do i need!!!?? we really have to go back to minimalism -
i hope the above helps you - BB

@BK and all team members- i am new as well - i did a blog the other day - Suze Orman is a smart cookie - and when you say SAVE FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE BK - tongue in cheek but ironically that is exactly what it is all about.
the government wont take care of us, no pension will be enough - health costs are skyrocketing -and who know what will be there for us when the time comes.
so it is really a very literal statement!
i advocate the STEP BACK AND WAIT strategy for all of us who either overspend in general or impulse buy. i have been guilty of both - but now i take a breathe and i give myself one week - if that item is still important to purchase, after not just thinking it over but also looking at what i may already have - then i will go back to buy it.
this has saved me a lot of money in the past five years - that skirt i thought was a great buy - i found several similar i already had.
those kitchen 'necessities' i thought i needed - found all sorts of same to similar gadgets so did not have to buy.
repurposed a lot of stuff - like shelves that were in a room really not being used as they could be - i moved them to where i did need them - and voila - works and no cost.
no one is perfect for sure- but remember once you have spent that money - then really need it for something important - you have regret and no one needs to live with that.

Hello Everyone,

New the the team . . . Bought a house just over a year ago and planning to start a family soon so now is the time to establish a better family budget. We don't have tons of debt, but we recently noticed that we're spending just a bit beyond our means. We're carrying about $1500 on credit cards right now and know we can make some adjustments to get it all back in balance. Looking forward to reading everyone's strategies!

Spark helped me reach my goal weight so hopefully it can also help me get my budget on track :)

Hi all, I was pleased to find the No Spend Team on here, we can all use extra help and encouragement in that area.

My DH lost his job of 18 years, over 2 1/2 years ago and has not been able to find another one. I have a home-based business and a full-time job that is keeping us afloat, but we need to cut corners wherever possible. Looking for great ways to do that!!

Hi everyone. Our goal is to get out of debt bf my DH retires in 2014. He pays his ex $1200 a month for ten years, so it has been tough. Then our health insurance started charging a deductible and that has definitely screwed with the budget. Hope to get some tips here!

Hi- I'm from Texas and need to quit spending so much money. I will be retiring at the end of the month which means my income will be cut to about 1/3 of what I am used to making.I have not had to do any budgeting in the last few years and am used to buying whatever I want. I will not be able to do this anymore.Hopefully, this team will help me learn some strategies for cutting back on my spending.

Okay, so this is not a very active team, I could see that when I reviewed the board messages...but having a place to talk about $$$ is wonderful! The thought of controlling money in my life is scary! I realize it doesn't grow on trees, and I think I can adjust to the "No spend" theory... or adjust my thinking to my child hood days...if you want it badly enough, you will make sacrifices in other areas to have "your way"! I guess I know how...until now, I have lacked the discipline!... anyone else have that problem?

Hi, I'm Jean from Carrizozo, NM. I moved here recently and am not working. I am living on my BF's check. We hope to get married later this year. We are about an hour from any sort of town with stores, so no running for fast-food! We are both trying to lose the weight and get healthy. I'm nearing retirement in a few years, but will probably be searching for work soon. In the meantime, we are renovating our mobile home.

Hi Sarahjo! That's probably where she banks - not sure though. I'll have to check then next time she sends me a check....probably Christmas ;-) Just such a small, funny little world at the end of the day.

Thanks for setting up this team! I recently (November 2009) got myself mostly out of "bad" debt, but I haven't been able to translate that to actually SAVING a lot of money. Looking forward to talking with everyone.

I am just giddy about finding this new site! My name is Ketti and I live in Blaine, MN. I have a wonderful husband and an a 9 (well almost 9) year old step daughter. We need to get our financials in check. Seems like we are out of control. Anyhow, saving for?? More like paying off....But if I had to chose, I would be saving for a great winter vacation in 2011!

OK I forgot to mention that I have a husband that works A LOT and I work too. We have two daughters 14 and 2...we also have a doggy and a cat. We need to save for two vacations this year. Not sure how I'm going to do it with my shopping habits, but I'm up for the challenge.

Hi, my name is Trista. I am a SAHM, my husband works quite a few hours during the week. I have 3 boys, 6, 4, and 2, 2 dogs and a fish. Not the best situation to start saving much, but here I go!
