Will never move from California. I'm 3rd generation and love California. I like to visit other places but that is as far as I go to leaving.

Thanks for responding, everyone. These accounts are of great interest to me, as I contemplate moving with my husband to Illinois. Single_Sr- like you said, I do think I am mid- life-ing. I'm 49, hate my job, and have never lived outside CA. It could be an adventure, but not if i'm feeling guilty about "leaving behind my family". We shall see.
My family moved to Puerto Rico when my Father retired early, we had been living in the San Fernando Valley for over 25 years at that time. We were not happy with the schools so a move was a good thing for us. After PR we moved to Minnesota, one of my brothers stayed in CA until he died of cancer and my Aunt and her family are all still living there. I think of southern CA when I think of living there, but I know that northern CA is very different.

Wow! Other than Idaho, your "migration path" intersects mine 9my family's) a lot!
I was born in San Jose, and my parents moved us to Redding, for same reason (crime). My mom was born in Santa Rosa, and my parents were married there. My daughters now go to Sonoma State, in Rohnert Park
My brother married years ago, and moved to Seattle, where he now lives with his wife and 2 girls.
My mother and dad want to move someplace on the northern CA coast..... crescent city, maybe, they've said! My mom is retired, and while my dad still works 3 days a week at 77, he is ready to hang it up.
I'm nervous about moving out of state. It will be an adventure, but there is a lot I will miss about CA!
My husband and I moved to Idaho, where he is from when our children were small. We wanted to raise them in a safer place. We were in San Jose at the time and the crime was off the charts. After Idaho, kids out of high school we move back to Santa Rosa. When my daughter married she went to Seattle so we followed her there. Now we are in Crescent City to retire and will stay here from now on. I am from many generations of Californians and this will always be home.
