Love the sibling rivalry! Last time I was at King's Island, I was with a six year old friend, so we were a little limited in which rides we could do. She is a monkey like me and her parents both get motion sick, so I am officially her amusement park godmother!

Yes I've ridden Vortex, last time I rode it I swore I'd never ride it again, a very painful ride. Been a little while since we've been to KI - there is a family dispute involved. If we dont' have a steel coaster thread feel free to start one.

When we started riding coasters my son was under 54" so he wasn't able to ride all the big coasters yet in a few cases there were kiddie coasters he was able to ride that my daughter was too tall for. He got taller and started riding the big rides. My daughter has been ahead on the coaster count, but eventually my son tied so they now are both at 257. Yet, he hasn't ridden Invertigo at KI - so he wants to go, my daughter desparately doesn't want to go because she doesn't want to let her little brother in the lead.

Have you done Vortex? It's tubular steel, so it doesn't belong on this board, but it's my other favorite at King's Island.

As you point out, I know the Beast 'cause I grew up in Ohio, but I'm sure there are lots of great coasters out there that I just ASSUME aren't as awesome 'cause I haven't been on them yet. Bucket list...

The Beast is a great coaster - that Diamondback and Racer are the only coasters we generally ride. Keep in mind not everyone has been to Cincinnati/Kings Island, so some people will not have ridden Beast. Beast, Diamondback and Racer are generally the only coasters we ride there.

I'm surprised the Beast isn't on everyone's list! Biggest baddest longest fastest wooden roller coaster in the world. The sudden left turn as you lurch into the tunnel is my favorite spot...

Voyage is definitely not a hot-weather coaster. It kind of runs like crap in hot, dry weather. Most wood coasters do, actually. The best way to ride a wooden coaster is when it's cool out and is either lightly raining or just rained. I've ridden Voyage under those conditions, as well as at night, and it was so completely mind-blowing. Also, when did you ride Raven? They retracked about 80% of it this season and it's running smooth as glass. Voyage is getting a similar makeover this year. Legend's getting to the point of needing it also.

You should try to make it down for HoliWood Nights this year. :) If you aren't an ACE member, I'd be happy to take you as my guest. Hours of night-time ERT on all their amazing wooden coasters for two nights straight ... it's like an adrenaline overdose! Not to mention the copious amounts of food, morning water park ERT, photo walkbacks of the coasters and all around amazing treatment from the park.

El Toro used to be solidly my number 2, but Hades pushed it out. I love the "out of control" feeling on a coaster, which is why Voyage is firmly my number one and I don't see it going anywhere else. Hades had that feel in the tunnel, and therefore combined two of my favorite elements - insanity and a tunnel.

Starting all over again. It's easier the second time, right?

I'll have to rethink my top 10, but at the time I made my list I hadn't ridden El Toro yet, that was so much more than I expected - If its not my number one its close!

We all liked Voyage - but it wasn't as fun or enjoyable as many coasters - Though in all fairness we rode it back to back on a really hot day at the end of a coastercation - a cooler day, a different day, and it may have been more enjoyable. The Raven rocked first thing in the morning - later in the day it was rough and non-enjoyable.

I'll bring up this old post to throw in my two cents.

1. The Voyage, Holiday World
2. Hades, Mt Olympus
3. El Toro, Six Flags Great Adventure
4. Zippin Pippin, Bay Beach
5. Ravine Flyer II, Waldameer
6. Prowler, Worlds of Fun
7. Phoenix, Knoebels
8. Blue Streak, Conneaut Lake Park
9. Thunderhead, Dollywood
10. Grizzly, Kings Dominion

Starting all over again. It's easier the second time, right?

That is an impressive list - I had forgotten about Shivering Timbers - that was a sweet coaster! I think I've ridden everything on your list - I didn't find myself caring for Viper at all and while it was a recent addition I didn't find Tornado all that exciting.

I visited Knott's a couple years ago - but regrettably Ghostrider was down for yearly maintenance :-(

I did get to ride Gwazi this past March - I had only heard bad things but those coasters rocked - though in fairness I got to ride it with the MIllennium Flyer trains.

Some of these most certainly are among my favorites (so far).
Others left a definite impression.

Shivering Timbers (Michigan Adventure, Mi.)
The Beast (King's Island, Oh)
Giant Dipper (Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Ca.)
American Eagle (Six Flags, Great America, Il)
Thunderbolt (Kennywood, Pa)
Screamin' Eagle (Six Flags, St. Louis, Mo.)
Cornball Express (Indiana Beach, In.)
Tornado (Adventureland, Ia)
Viper (Great America, Il)
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (Dizzyworld, Fl. It's so scenic.)

Coasters I'd like to ride at some point:
Gwazi (Busch Gardens, Tampa Fl.)
Ghostrider (Knott's Berry Farm, Ca)
(Likely others)

My top X - at the moment are:

1) Prowler
2) Renegade
3) Blue Streak (CP)
4) Voyage
5) Cornball Express
6) Beast
7) Giant Dipper - Santa Cruz

I guess my definition is what ones would I want to ride today - this may change later today as I think of a different coaster I'm not thinking of right now.

Based on many factors some coasters will appeal to us more than others - what are the top wooden coasters in your opinion??
