Hi there! Love the idea for this group! I have two furballs - a 9 year old Pittie named Cheba and a 9 week old Chihuahua/Jack Russell mix named Rumple that we adopted last week (see profile pic). He's insanely adorable and I have just fallen in love with the little guy (despite the potty training sleep deprivation!) And with all of his potty trips, he's become my exercise inspiration.

Look forward to getting to know the group!

Eddy, I love your menagerie. You have a big heart. I would have more animals if my condo allowed more than 2. As it is, the president keeps a close eye on me. She had poison put down to kill the feral s and when I threatened her with turning her in, she called the Humane society. They would put down feral s 100 0/0 of the time. So I TNR ed them and had them sent to a farm. There are too many mean-spirited people in this world. emoticon welcome

Welcome Lori and Linda! You both do a lot of good for the animals. I'm Janet and have two dogs and a cat. All are from the humane society. We have a Weimaraner, age 7 and a lab mix, age 5. We've had both for at least two years, not quite three. Our cat is our first cat. We got him in November and he runs the place.

Hi, everyone :) My name is Eddy and I live in Oregon with my husband and 2 dogs, 4 cats:

Shandi is a Boxer, 9 years old, that I got from a lady who was going to put her down because she is all white. She has Osteosarcoma but has been holding strong for a year now with 5 months of chemotherapy after initial diagnosis and monthly intravenous bone strengthener.

Blue is a heeler mix, 7 years old, that my husband bought off of a homeless man out of a big box of puppies :) Best 25$ ever spent! He is NAUGHTY, lol, but is so loyal.

Boo is an 8-year-old Siamese mix my husband got for me from a farm, but Boo is now 100% a daddy's boy and DH adores him.

Wall-e is a 6-year-old feral kitty I picked up in our neighborhood - I spotted kids holding him (maybe 5 weeks at the time) and went out to investigate..."mommy says we can't give him food or water because we're not keeping him"...said the little boy about the little limp rag in his hands. So I took him. Had an angry neighbor at my door less than an hour later, and she got a piece of my mind followed by a few harmless threats, lol. Wall-e will come around and grace us with his presence on occasion but mainly stays outdoors.

Shula Fantastika is a 5-year-old black/white kitty from a litter of kittens my neighbor's cat had (the cat that was a male...she didn't know the testicles were on the outside, not the inside, and alway assumed her cat was male). Yeah. Shula loves the dogs, Wall-e and Boo, but hates the humans :) So she mainly eats and gives us a piece of her mind most days.

Bruce...my baby. Bruce is 3 years old and is a "foster failure". He had a broken leg that the Humane Society fixed. He is also deaf. I can't put down in words how I feel about him. He is the perfect cat and makes me laugh 100 times a day.

That's my crew!

Lori, as you can see, my user name is feralauntie. My name is Linda and for the last 10yrs I have been involved with the feral community. I have in the past, rescued and 're homed to a farm 13 beautiful kitties. I had for many years taken food to the farm where they were taken . I would go every 4 weeks, and ended up adopting a throw away abused cat. He and I both knew we loved each other, but because of his history, he could not do more that sit at my feet to let me know he loved me. He had cancer all through his body so we only had 14 months together. He died knowing he was loved. His name was KitKat. Welcome to our group. Linda

Hi to everyone. I'm Lori and I live in West Virginia. Along with two older cats that we took in as strays over the years, we recently adopted two feral kittens my sister trapped as part of her Operation Fancy Free program. She has several colonies where she is attempting to trap and then spay/neuter all adults and find forever homes for young kittens. Our kittens were trapped at the same time but did not come from the same litter. The youngest one, who was maybe 7 weeks old, had no problem being held and petted from day one. The other, around 10 to 12 weeks old, has been another story. In the 5 1/2 months we've had him he's come to about 75% tame. Are any of you familiar with feral kittens? It's an awesome experience to reach a point where they trust you enough to allow you to touch them.
Nice to be around other animal lovers who also share a weight loss journey.

Tried water bottle (even though Jackson Galaxcy says not to). I'm too old and too fat to catch him with it. So he will sit still for me to pick him up and remove him to bedroom or lets me chase him in there. He generally waits until I am busy with something before he does these mean little things because he is aware of how slow I am.

Aren't they little terrors when they start acting up like that? I used to have to resort to the water pistol when Pussass used to torment Josie when she was still alive. I was going to change his name from Pussass to Assassin Cat!!

My goofy cat Garfy has been really bad to his sister last couple of days. It is distracting. Since only punishment I will mete out is locked in bedroom while I am gone and a few minutes timeout while I am here, he continues to torment my little senior citizen. Try to tell him I need to be doing other things, but of course he ignores me.

Hi, my name is Debbie and I live in a suburb of Cleveland in the Northeast Ohio Region with my Hubby and our Rescue Sprite! Sprite is a Beagle/Fox Terrier Mix we adopted from Paws & Prayers from Akron Ohio in May of 2010 when she was a couple of months old. Sprite is our first Rescue, and we got her after we lost my Min Pin of almost 16 years. Sprite is the love of our life and brings us joy each and everyday! She is fun, loving and just plain down cute and spoiled rotten.

Hi, Love your kitty's name. Yes, once in a long while you get a little soul mate and they leave you feeling somewhat empty when they go. But, I always have room for 2 pets so I adopt again. They are all so different and great. Thank you for greeting me.

Hi Laurie, welcome to the team.

Terriers can tend to be chewers, my little Maggs could kill a squeaker in a couple of minutes, but my JR Ladybird is very good with her toys and never chews things up.

Drop on over to the monthly chat thread and say hi to the others on the team.

Hope you enjoy it here emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi everyone my name is Laurie and I just joined this team. I have two dogs, they are both terrier mixes. My daughter gave me Pudding as a birthday gift when he was about 5 weeks old. He is part chihuahua and part some kind of terrier. He will be 2 years old at the end of June. We just got Jack a couple of months ago. He is part jack Russell and something else, he is a little larger than Pudding. He was about 9 or 10 months old when he was given to me because his former owners didn't want him anymore because he chews on everything. I think he's teething and just try to keep things out of his reach that would hurt him if he chews on them.

Hi Michelle, welcome to the team.

My two dogs are 9 and 10 respectively and they still think they are puppies the way they play.

You sound like you have a "full house" and they sound very spoiled.

You'll love it here, it's a very friendly team filled with great members

I just got welcome email from two of the team owners right after joining the group. Nice. TY :)
Let's see if I can go in order here. My beautiful kitty is around 14 years old and still acts like a kitten. She was the runt of the litter and won my husband's heart when she sat on his boot when we were visiting in a friend's barn. The friend's family has always just let nature take it's course when it comes to cats, and this little kitty was so unhealthy her fur was very sparse. We took her home with us and took her to the vet. They had to wait until she had enough fat on her body before they could give her her first shots.
Next rescued pet of the dog and cat persuasion, is our basset hound. My son-in-law really wanted one. My daughter bought him one. They ended up not getting along well, but he saw that my husband really liked the puppy, so before trying to sell him, he asked if we'd like to keep the puppy. We said yes. I think he is around 6 years old now. Then there is the little girl who showed up in our yard about five years ago. She looks to be german shepherd and border collie. Such a sweet disposition, even though it became obvious after about a week that she wasn't feeling her best. We had tried finding her owners, but after a week, the pound told us she was ours. At that point the vet finally allowed us to bring her in. They thought she might have something that would cost a lot to fix, but finally decided we could try a medicine that was inexpensive (first anyway), but would very likely turn her teeth yellow. We tried it, it worked, and her teeth stayed white. She is such a happy girl. She and her "brother" and the kitty all get along really well.

Hi Debbie, welcome to the team.

Cancer ..... ugh, it's a terrible thing in humans and animals. My little Maggs died in January this year with aggressive lung cancer, she was 16 and after all she'd been through before I thought she'd live forever.

I hope you like it here and don't worry about names etc, we just go with the flow so to speak here.

Hi Everyone,

I'm Debbie (Serenitee here) and I live in sw Manitoba Canada. I have two rescue dogs, both German Shepherd crosses. One is crossed with Greyhound and the other with Rottweiler. I've had them just over 3 years now.

My family has always had dogs. The first pup my husband and I had, we had to have put down because she developed cancer. After 2 remissions, the vet could do no more and she was starting to suffer. She was about 5 months old. Our next dog was a German Shepherd who lived to the grand old age of 16! Our next dog was a purebred GS. I had to put him down four summers ago, after he developed neurosomething myelopothy (I think I spelled the last part right). I kept him as long as I could, as he had been attached to my husband's hip, and I had just lost my husband to cancer the year before. That dog was 11 1/2.

I couldn't stand being on my own, and after having had a dog in the house for so many years, I logged onto the local Humane Society website. I went out the next day to visit, and Sedona (the GS/greyhound) stole my heart. She'd been at the shelter since puppyhood and was now 14 months old. She's quite an anxious/shy/nervous dog, but she has literally come miles since coming home with me. She's now 4 1/2. Tika was a pup of about 4 months. She is my girl with the " 'tude", but I absolutely love her to bits. emoticon

Yesterday, Sedona was diagnosed with some impossible named eye condition. It's apparently life-long and the ointment is unbelievably expensive. They've started her on steroids while we wait for the ointment to come in next week, as none was on hand. Apparently, UV rays are not good for this condition. I ordered a pair of Doggles this morning, online… lol, this could be interesting. However, if I can get her to wear them, bonus!

I look forward to meeting all of you. I"m absolutely TERRIBLE with names, so please forgive mistakes I may make in messages emoticon

Never mind waiting for the light at the end of the tunnel; stride down there and light the damn thing yourself.

Be kinder than necessary ~ everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Suddenly, all my ancestors are behind me. "Be still," they say. "Watch and listen. You are the result of the love of thousands."

What you eat in private will show up in public.

Hi, I have been rescuing animals for a long time. When I lived in North Carolina I was very active in Greyhound rescue and actually worked full time at a rescue kennel for a few years and also as a volunteer. My husband and I lost our last greyhound to bone cancer last year.

We now have 2 cats that we rescued off the street, and our newest addition, Walter, whose picture you can see on my Spark page. I rescued Walter from our local WalMart parking lot where someone had dumped him. He was so terrified that he bit 2 people who tried to help him. For some reason he liked me and jumped in my car when I opened the door for him. He's about a year and a half old and definitely has some trust issues, but we are working with him and he's really coming around.

I'm happy to have found this team!

Hello, my name is Patty and I very glad to have found this group. I have had animals all my life and am never happier than when I have a pet and friend. In November I adopted an 8 year old lab mix who has the most amazing personality. He makes me laugh and we have a lot of fun together. I have decided that he is my new personal trainer since he is a very active 8 year old. Well, I am very glad to have found this chat room.

Hi, I am on my 5th Shih Tsu rescue. She was a used as a backyard breeder. God sent one of His angels who just went in & rescued all the dogs & puppies. She is a amazingly fun & loving dog considering her 1st 2 years were horrific. She is BF with her "sister" a Pug (couple of photos on my Sparkpage). They both like our guinea pig, too. Their BF is my neighbors Pitbull, also a rescue.
God bless everyone who has opened their homes & hearts to sheltered animals.

Hi and welcome to the Jen and Casey. Great to have both of you on the team.

Casey, it's starting to get cold down here isn't it, when we talk about Winter down here everybody else is talking about Summer.

I hope you both enjoy it here on our great team.

Hi everyone - my name is Casey and I live in Melbourne. I have a 20 year old cat that is on her last legs, after she has gone we intend going to the local animal shelter to adopt new dog, I feel this will be better as we go away quite often and we could take it with us. I love my cat and will be very unhappy when she goes but I understand that life must go on. I have had pets all my life.

Casey.

Hi!! I'm Janet -- all our pets have been adopted. We've had BJ the lab, Katie the collie mix and Maggie (my favorite) the lab. Right now we have Molly the lab, Charlie the Weimaraner and Tony (our first) the orange tabby. Can you tell I like labs? All have been black.

Hi Debbie welcome to the team.

An older dog is usually a great thing to adopt. One of my dogs was @7 years old when we first adopted her, she passed away in January at 15 years of age.

Looking forward to getting to know you here. emoticon

Hi ! I'm Debbie. Rescued an approximately 5 year old boxer last year. Was a little hesitant on getting an older dog and she was also being treated for heartworms. Found on the streets in SC and shipped up to NY. Not too fond of the snow but getting use to it. Very friendly and craves attention but, oddly, does NOT know how to play with any toys??? Tried every one we could think of but no go. Loves to walk, so she gets my husband and I out to exercise. Had adopted a Bassett Hound over a decade ago, who had to be put down. Previously had a boxer over 30 years ago. So glad we have her cause she is an absolute joy! Getting another boxer was one of the best decisions we ever made!

Hi, my name is Heather, and I just found this group and knew it was the group for me. I have 6 cats, two were rescued from a local humane society (Dobby and Penny), two were rescued from my own back yard (Hermione and her baby, Zazzles), one wandered into my fiance's apartment and adopted him years ago (Dune), and the other was rescued from someone who could not keep him (Loki). I also have one black lab/Australian shepherd mix (Keira) who I rescued from a local animal control center. I could not imagine my life without animals. If I had the money to do so I would rescue at least a dozen more. I always make sure that I share the updates and albums of the local humane society with family and friends on facebook so that more of these great animals can find their forever homes. I have done some volunteering for them as well, and I am hoping someday I can convince my fiance to volunteer to be a foster for some of the dogs who do not do well in the shelter environment.

I have just recently become active with SparkPeople and I am looking for positive teams to work with to achieve my health and fitness goals. I want to be the healthiest that I can be and I know that having a strong support team will help me stick with it and reach my goals. I look forward to getting to know all of you. emoticon

Thanks Millisma. I'm slowly figuring out how to get around and finally was able to post a picture of my boyz. Next week I'll have had them 3 months so they will be 13 months old. When I got them, they were both under 30 pounds and would lose their bowels if you raised your voice. Their only solace was having each other as they are brothers. They still sleep in the puppy cuddle and they can't be more than a few feet from each other but they are getting much better. When my beautiful wife, RJ came into the picture, they really came out of their shell and now can get about 15 to 20 feet from each other. They still have to see each other but they are getting more independent, well as much as they will be able to. I showed RJ the video's taken by CBC news and a private rescue of when they were rescued and it would break most people's hearts. As for myself, it just makes me mad that someone would abuse animals. Anyway, I'm getting to know my way around and I thank you for the tips.

Hi and welcome to the team. It takes a little while to learn your way around but it gets easier. Check out the "site guide" tab on the right side of the start page. Also, by going to your spark points page and earning points, it will help you to see some of the things that are available. Would love to learn more about your rescues. You will find so many amazing folks on this team with heartwarming stories about their pets. So glad you've joined us and if you have any questions, just ask and someone will help you out.

hugs.....Mary Anne

Hi, I'm new to this team so please excuse me while I blunder around. I joined this team because I have just retired and I have been involved in Dog Rescue, Rehabilitation and Training for over 40 years. I just adopted two Border Collie brothers in August who are 1 year old and were rescued from a Hoarders Farm in Manitoba in July. There were about 100 dogs involved although most were too far gone to save and only 27 survived. The survivors were sent to various cities on the Prairies but I had received advance word about these two guys and had them sent to BC for me. I'd love to tell you about their struggles and rehabilitation but I'm still struggling to figure out this site. They provide motivation for me in my weight loss because if they can survive the abuse they once went through, I can survive a diet plan that I can stick to. I'll post some pictures and tell you about them when I figure out how to in fact post pictures.

Hope to be in touch with you later.

Hi everyone,

My name is Barbara and I'm back on SP after only being on this site for about 8 weeks a year ago. I just came back on 10/10/13 and trying to do it right this time.

I'm so glad I came across this team. I have two amazing adopted cats (one from SPCA and one from the Humane Society and their pics are on my page) that I love named Bella and Chloe. I've had all kinds of pets over the years and love them all... ummm... bugs so much. ;-)

I just wanted to stop by... say 'Hi' and I look forward to talking to other dog and cat lovers on here soon.

Hi Lisa, great to see you here.

Those little Griffons are cuties, I always remember the one with Jack Nicholson in "As good as it gets" always thought he was better looking than Nicholson as well!!

Definitely pop on over to the Chat thread to say hi to everybody
