Welcome I am pretty new to diving myself. I just have a huge passion for it but I havent been able to go for a couple years now seeing as how I live nowhere near a large body of water. =)

Hi comet,
Welcome to the diving world. You will just love the warm water diving. Usually you need to do at least 2 to 5 open water dives to complete all the safety tasks you learned in the pool lessons. I did 4 dives and they are all worthwhile, because the more you learn, the more comfortable you will be when you are on your own. If you want any info on bonaire, just email me. We have been there about 6 trips so far, and going back in Feb.

No. You have to do the open water dive before you get the card. As long as I go somewhere with a PADI dive center I am good- you bring the information from your instructor and any PADI instructor can evaluate your open dive.
Yes- I keep hearing all positives about Bonaire.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys-

I am also looking at options closer to home- Florida maybe???

Can't say I blame you. I would not want to be in those waters in Dec either.
Haven't been to Bonaire or Belize and I do not think you can go wrong with either choice!

Hey Comet, I've been to Bonaire twice and totally loved it both times. Do you have a certification card now, even though you haven't done your open water dive yet? In any case, you could probably get a resort dive certification, but that would be good to check on in advance.

No ideas yet- all suggestions welcome.
One of the ladies in my class headed to Bonaire. I have definitely heard it mentioned several times. Another suggestion was Belize.
My dive buddy just had foot surgery that will keep him out of the water in till late February, so I am hoping to head somewhere in mid-March.
Normally I would have just gone with the dive center I learned through (Dosil's in Middletown NJ- I live by the Jersey Shore) to a quarry in PA for my first open water dive- but since I decided to get my certification in December it was too cold . I could wait and go with them in MAY- but I would much rather head somewhere a bit warmer and GET IN THE WATER sooner!!

Where are you from Comet! Everybody has to start somewhere. Any place in mind for your 1st open water dive?

Hi thank you for the welcome-
when I say new, I mean BRAND new! I just did my cert in December and am waiting for the waters here to warm up (and or to go somewhere where the water is already warm) to finish my open water dive.
I'll be looking forward to having many adventures to post in 2009- for now I am enjoying hearing what everyone else has to say about their experiences.
I welcome all tips, ideas, equipment favorites, trip destinations, etc.....

Welcome to the team Comet60! This is a great group and we have a lot of fun here, as well as discussions about diving. So where have you been diving? I'm hoping that you get as much fun, excitement and satisfaction out of scuba diving as I have. Please join us in the Narced Divers Lounge, where we do most of our chatting.
