Recently rejoined after being gone for a long time. Finally lost 34 kg, went from being obese to healthy, and am back now lose the last 5 kg and use the exercise program to get fit and build up some muscles. I'm more about the measurement then the weight. I'd be happy at this weight if there was more muscle and less residual fat on the waist.

Love diving and any outdoor activity.

Hi there! My name's Amy and I live in California. I've been diving since I was 13 and have both my OW and Advanced OW certifications. My favorite dives so far have been off of Kona in Hawaii and St. Thomas. I have a laundry list of places I'd like to go diving, but lately my embarrassment over my weight has been holding me back. I figured spending time with other divers would help keep me focused and give me even more ideas about places I'd like to go. I look foward to meeting you all!

Hi! Greetings from a Texan Diver! I got certified almost 2 years ago and I am hooked on diving! Currently working on my Rescue Cert. Favorite dive location so far has been Coco View in Roatan, Honduras.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone better and becoming a little less buoyant.

Hi, I'm back on Spark after about 1 year off. Just recently got my OW certification. The certification dives were in the FL Keys, off Marathon Key. Love it so much, and cannot wait to do it again. Since returning home to work and reality (sniff, sniff), I'm more determined than ever to shed the excess weight and get my body in better shape so I can enjoy Scuba even more. I'm looking forward to reading about your scuba adventures and working together to meet our fitness goals! Jennifer emoticon

Yes, it is a small world! I also look forward to getting to know you better. How did your OW go yesterday? Would like to hear about it. We got to the quarry apx 9:30am and it was a zoo there! That place has gotten so busy with the scuba training going on. Funny thing is I tried to see if I could find you and and all I saw that looked familiar were the reddish tank and green weights on your profile pic..lol. Too bad i could not see you there. It would have been fun to meet you.
We did manage to get one dive in. Dive to the bottom at 125' and saw the white car down there. Temps were 41F but it was not bad with my drysuit.

Hope you will join us in the "Narced Divers Lounge" where we hang out to chat about anything and everything! Great bunch on this team! We also post our workouts in the Divers Fitness Center and we have a monthly weight loss challenge which you can still join if you want to. We set a goal for each month and weight in every Friday. So hope to see you around doll!

Hi Everyone!

I've been on SP for almost 7 months. I've been diving since 2001. My boyfriend & I were just in Cozumel in early April and got in some great dives. We go on dive trips about twice a year and do some local quarry diving, here in the Chicago area, during the summer.

I'm so happy to have found this group. I'll be sure to check out the Narced Diver Lounge.

Hi, I'm Tara! I've been diving for several years and love it! My husband and I have planned our lives around travel and diving--we work extra hard in the summers here in Alaska so that we can spend our winters traveling.. This winter I was lucky enough to dive in Thailand and the Philippines. I'm looking to get into better shape so that I can continue to exploring the world!

Hi I'm Katie! I have been diving for a decade now as a marine biologist. In recent years, I have gained weight and wished to lose it. Now I am determined to loose it, since my recent health scare (stress induced asthma) exercise has become the best stress relieving medicine.

I am new to spark people.
I'm not sure if this is where I'm supposed to introduce myself, but I am not up to date on networking & message boards, so, please correct me if I'm doing something wrong.
I got my PADI certification in 1987. (Dutch Springs in Bethlehem, PA. Some of you may be familiar with that mine hole.)
I was very active at first. Then, not so much. Now getting back into it. Love the dive computer.
I have to lose about 30 lbs, or I'll just flounder on the surface and never get any bottom time.
Thanks in advance for all your support.

If you woke up tomorrow, and only had the things you were grateful for, what would you have?

Hi everyone! Just an introduction... I rejoined SP today because I found a new motivation: Getting in better shape to dive! I was in Puerto Aventuras, Mexico this past week and went diving for the first time on Tuesday. I did the PADI Discover Scuba Diving resort course. We spent about two hours in the pool practicing mask clearing, regulator clearing, finding the regulator after "losing" it, buoyancy, etc. Then we went out to a local reef and did about 40min at 11.8m max depth. It was easily the best experience of my life.

However... carrying the gear to and from the boat (about a 10min walk in the tropical sun!) and getting myself up onto the edge of the boat to enter the water, and then back up the ladder... reminded me that I am way overweight and extremely out of shape. I am determined to complete my PADI Open Water certification within the next year and I want to have better endurance, both for carrying gear and for better air consumption underwater. Plus I can look better in a wetsuit ;)

So, here I am! I'm a newbie but I want to talk about diving and join the challenges on this team!

Hi Marty and emoticon to the team! Also a big emoticon on losing 30+ lbs! That is so great and I know you will get to your goal for your big trip to Hawaii next year.

Hope to see you on the team boards! We have weight loss challenges you can check out. August one is almost done but we have them monthly so join in for Sept which will be posted just before the start of the month. We all hang out and chat in The Nacred Divers Lounge so join us there for a few laughs and we are all there to give support too.

We also have a Diver Fitness Center where we post our daily workouts. It has been quiet there this summer but I know things will pick up soon so come on by.

Howdy, I'm new to SP and have been diving for about 6 yrs. I am a disable diver (Polio). My dive partner is my son. Like others my wet suit and BCD were screaming about being stretched and I wasn't able to get in and out of the water without over exerting myself.

I am planning a trip to Hawaii next May and need to be fit enough to dive. I have already lost 30+lbs and have 50+ to go to reach my overall goal. I'm doing great on the meal plan but having trouble with increasing my activity enough to get off the plateau I'm stuck on.

Hi, all, I'm Linda and have been a diver since 1985. I'm so pleased to find a group that dives on SparkPeople. WooHoo! My husband and I take 2-3 dive trips a year (he was certified in 1962!). I joined SpartPeople because I don't want to have to buy larger and larger wetsuits: I'm sure I recently heard one of my wetsuits say, "She wants us to stretch how far? You're kidding."

Lord, make my words sweet and tender- for tomorrow I may have to eat them!

I certified in SCUBA the Summer I taught swimming at a SCUBA shop. I have not done any SCUBA diving since, though I would if I had the $ and the places/groups to go to/with. I occasionally review-through a SCUBA instruction book.

I wanted to stay in the State I grew up in, for two years of Medical Technician training, but my childhood family thought that was "beneath" me. My mom was a teacher in my school district, and she talked to my academic advisoe instead of ME talking to him. I knew nothing about colleges; I thought a college catalog was a catalog of the colleges in the nation. Mom sent me off to the college of her choice, for Summer term, instead of letting me work on a Marine Biology project with a High School class I had just finished.

I was SO TIRED of the reading/writing-styled schooling, and two years, with hands-on lab time, to enter a great career, sounded great to me!!!!!!

One of my back-of-the-mind goals is to get back into such good shape that SCUBA will be as fun and interesting as it was when I certified.

I'm new to SP (4 days and counting) and sortof new to SCUBA. This will make my 2nd yr of diving, and I love it. My year was cut short last year a bit with a wedding and all, but already have dive weekends selected for 2011, and my diving goal is to have racked up at least 90 additional dives this year. If finances permit, would love to get my AOW, but we'll see. OW cert in 2009 and ended 2010 with 27 dives. I've joined SP to get in better shape and live a healthier life. I'm doing well and feeling great in my first week and am more motivated than I ever have been.

Hoping everyone is having a great day today!

Hi,
I have been a SCUBA lover even before my first dive in 1992. I have dived Roatan, Hawaii, Fl Keys, Maine coast, burrr, Niagara river, some times you take what you can get, and a few miscellaneous places. I have almost 4 year old twins so have not dove in too long!! I plan to get back to it next summer, and the twins will join us, my husband is also a diver, as soon as they are allowed! I love talking with other divers and need as much help fitting in to my old wet suit as I can get.
Send some motivation my way,
Jen

Hi, group.
I am new to the group and to spark, but not to scuba diving.
I am a dive con with tons of gulf dives under my weight belt. Due to some recent bad news, I am doing more freediving these days. Either way, I always have something in my hand when I do down. Speargun, polespear, lobster bag, crab claw bag, shark tooth, or camera are some of my usual sides.
looking forward to swapping stories and tricks.

Hi!
I'm fairly new to this site AND to diving. I just got my OW about a month and a half ago and I'm hooked! I've already bought a w/bp and am saving up for a drysuit which is a must for the cold water up here :P Seriously, my dive on wednesday was 7C(46F) and even with my drysuit, my fleece jumpsuit, leggings, stanfield shirt and wooly socks I was still freezing!!! If i'm that cold in August I can only imagine Febuary! Right now I'm working on figuring out my weighting and to be able to do my safety stop without having to flail my arms around, lol.

I joined SP because I really want to not only lose 25lbs but also to gain leg and core strength so I'm not completely exhausted just walking from my car to the water with all my gear, haha. It's no fun when you're tired before you even get in the water!

Anyway, hope I see you guys around :)

Hello! I just rejoined Spark People after an absence of maybe 2 years, and completely forgetting my original username and password... d'oh! I'm living in Calgary, and I've been diving for about 9 years. Working towards becoming an instructor this summer... I dive mainly cold water lakes (not my 1st choice, but hey) and take trips down south as often as possible! Staying active is rarely a problem for me, but my weight always has been. Gotto get a handle on it! Looking forward to joining in here!

Jim, I checked out the pics on your page! Cool shots! Our local dives are done in the Brockville area. Have you ever been? There are some cool wrecks there and wicked drift diving. Very challenging but I still prefer warm water diving and we have been to Cozumel a few times.
Would be nice to move to Sacramento to be with your sweetie. And the weather is better too! You are brave to dive wet in May.

It is great to see someone from Ontario being a Habs fan! Bet you get alot of slack for that from your buddies there!

Thanks for the warm welcome Michelar.
I currently live in the Toronto area and after getting certified last year, I went wreck diving in Tobermory and was instantly hooked. I have some pics from that dive on my Sparkpage. Feel free to take a look.
I'm hoping to eventually move to Sacramento where my Sweetheart is and take advantage of the longer dive season.
I dive wet too, but I don't mind the cold, so I'll be diving in May this year.
Big game tomorrow. Go HABS!

Hi All!
I'm Jim. I've been on Spark for a while now, but I just found out about the Divers Team. I'm picking up my new BC and reg on Saturday, so all I can do is research and talk about scuba right now. I can't wait for warmer weather! I just keep examining my gear an reading my books in anticipation. I bet you all understand, right?

I just joined SP yesterday and have spent this evening trying to figure out site navigation. NOW I've finally found a group I can feel I belong to! I was reading through your scariest stories, and it's too late for me to post mine tonight, but you guys look fun. I am a PADI instructor in the Seattle area and have taken about a year and a half off from diving to build a house. I now have a heated dive room in my garage with a 20 gallon laundry tub sink and a center drain. Tomorrow my husband installs the heavy duty rod for hanging drysuits and we are back in business. I can't wait!!!!! emoticon Good night!

It's hard to beat someone who won't give up.

I REALLY can't keep up with this thread.

Welcome new members. I dove Epcot two years ago. It was fun, but at the cost was definitely a once in a lifetime occasion. Although it does compete with Bonne Terre Mines for cost per dive. That was pretty damn cool, but at that cost, once in a life.

Hello Divers! I'm an SSI certified diver from MS. My diving trips were put on hold last year due to knee surgery. I'm not released for diving yet but will be soon. The Gulf waters will be warm by that time and hopefully a trip will be in place. I have new equipment that hasn't been used since trip(s) were canceled.

I have my advanced open water dive certification but the last dive I did was in the big pool at Epcot in Disney World! ( disneyworld.disney.go.com/tou
rs-and-ex
periences/epcot-dive-quest/
) We live in the Northeast and while I know we can dive here, we haven't yet, it's always been on vacations to somewhere warmer. I like the idea that if I get more lean muscle mass instead of fat I'll be less buoyant and need less weight to be neutral. There's something to shoot for.
