I believe it is for all who have issues with their bodies, self injury as well as for those who have or have had suicidal thoughts.

I am not the leader here and know very little about TWLOHA as a whole.

So, it this group also for self-injurers? Or is it only suicide prevention?

emoticon Maya, I hope that you find support with us here. It is a fairly quiet group right now.

I have self injured in the past and also write derogatory things on my body.

Hi there, I'm Maya and I'm new to this team. I have known about TWLOHA for a while by way of online and facebook. Is TWLOHA also a support for people who self injure? I'm not, nor have ever been suicidal, but I do have dermatillomania.

Years ago I saw t-shirts being sold at Torrid for this organization, but never really thought of myself as a self injurer until now. I have recently just started up a journey to lose weight again and basically cut everything unhealthy out of my diet and now have found myself very emotional and with very intense feelings to self injure. All this has lead me to look back at my life to see where all this came from. From the age of 7 to about 22 I would often try to commit suicide. In high school I put on all my weight and can remember looking at my naked body and seeing it as disgusting and just wanting to take a knife and just stab myself repeatedly. Fearing that it would hurt like hell I turned to food during those times, cramming whatever junk food I cold find. Last year is when I started cutting, only did i a few times.....but the feeling that comes over you afterwords; I can see it to be addicting so I am not trying to give in to the feelings of when I do what to cut. But right now the need to cut is just so strong, I know I need help. If I had health insurance I would of already contacted a therapist, but I don't and feel lost and hopeless. I just want to stop feeling this need to cut and to stab.

Kim

I just joined this group because the name stuck out for me. I had not heard of this organization until today but it sounds like a great thing.

I have never been diagnosed by a doctor but have had suicidal thoughts for most of my teen and adult years. After a major fight over minor things with my husband I have been reconsidering the fact that I have never sought treatment. I have intentionally broken my hand several times, scratched myself to the point of drawing blood and having scars over my arms and hands from this and I also beat myself leaving behind bruises that I try to hide after the fact. I have done this since I was about 10 years old and dealing with the death of my great-grandmother and that was when I realized that my mother was an alcoholic. I also write derogitory statements on myself with markers.

I am hoping to find support so that I can help my daughters to learn to love themselves for who they are and not what they look like.

Thank you for reading my ramblings.

I found this org. on facebook earlier this year, during a very rough time in my life. I've struggled with depression all my life, I was a cutter until about 5 or 6 years ago. I do still occasionally get the urge, but I haven't cut in a very long time.

I've lost 5 friends to suicide. The most recent was my best friend. We had been best friends for almost 20 years, we were closer than sisters. She hung herself last Christmas. I've had a very difficult time to say the least.

I'm 30 years old now. I still struggle, but I think that I can help some younger people who are feeling lost and lonely. At least, I would like to try.

I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies; for the hardest victory is the victory over self.

I discovered this organization through a friend on FaceBook awhile ago. I was inactive on SparkPeople for quite awhile until earlier this week so I was browsing through the teams here and found this.

I'm 28 years old and I have been struggling with depression ever since I was 12. Even attempted suicide back in high school. For quite awhile I was able to cope with my depression until last year when I became a victim of crime and it is spinning out of control ever since. So to find out there is an organization like this.. that is so great for people like us.

I found out about it first when a friend posted something on her Facebook Page in April- I immediately had to join in.

My DS (14) cuts. Then he talked about wishing he were dead. A few days later a boy in his school committed suicide.
It gave my family a lot to discuss.....

I am trying to share my "Love" photo but I can't. I guess I add it to my SparkPage

I found out about TWLOHA in the fall of 2006 if I remember correctly. I was in Lynchburg,VA @ a Bradley Hathaway show. He had a lot of stuff set up at his merch table so I asked him what it was all about. Once we discussed it for about an hour I knew it was something I wanted to involved in at least just a tad.

Hello everybody:

I actually did not know about the organization until I looked at this Sparkteam. I am actually one of ther leaders of two other Sparkteams "fighting emotional pain and stress" and "struggling with self-injury and depression." These are grest teams with great people, but I believe that it would also be helpful for me to be a part of a team where I'm not the leader. I looked for other teams that deal with these issues and found you guys!

Hey guys!

I found out about TWLOHA in March of 07 at a Switchfoot concert. I saw a ton of shirts and had to find out what they were all about. I fell in love and have been following them ever since. For the last three months I've had the honor of working with them as an intern in Florida and I will be heading back in January for another 4 months! It's been an organization that gives me hope and through that hope I am able to inspire others with hope.

love truly IS the movement!

I found out about it through another forum I belong to. There were lots of shared stories and it really struck home with me. I wrote "LOVE" on the inside of both my arms on TWLOHA day. I took a picture with my cell phone and sent it to everyone I knew who'd understand or knew about my cutting. You could see the scars coming through the "LOVE".

That sounds kinda like mine. I saw it on facebook after one of my friends joined. I thought what an interesting name for a band, so I clicked the link to check it out.
I struggled so much in high school and wished there was an organization like this back then (I'm 27 now). I was so inspired when I saw their website, I ordered two of their shirts and where them whenever I get a chance.

I love your story Morningstar! What an amazing niece you have. You should be so proud of her. Thanks for creating this team and further spreading their message.

I discovered TWLOHA by accident. I was with my niece (she was 15 at that time, I was 23) in Hot Topic and we were browsing t-shirts. I pulled out a To Write Love On Her Arms shirt and I thought it was one of those new bands my niece likes. I said "Oh, I don't listen to them." She laughed at me and told me that TWLOHA wasn't a band, it was an organization. I looked like a dummy so I asked her to explain it to me and when she did I was totally impressed. Where was this when I was her age? They had useless assemblies when I was in high school for 'Yellow Ribbon Week' which was supposedly about suicide prevention. It wasn't taken seriously and the schools administration didn't care to do much other than book older people to preach to us in monotone. Meanwhile, 3 teens in my HS were lost to suicide before I had even graduated. Then my niece told me that she was planning on devoting her sweet 16 to TWLOHA. Her invites were printed with a description of the org and the story of Rene Yohe, she set up a bucket at the party for donations and gave out pins and stickers and bracelets from the TWLOHA store. Even her 'entourage' were decked out in different color hand made TWLOHA t-shirts. Seeing what she had done brought me to tears, she wanted to use her sweet 16 to shed light on those who were suffering and to open everyones eyes. From that point on I promised her that I would do what I could to support TWLOHA so that kids my nieces age and younger had a way to seek help and to remind everyone that hope is real. During my time on the street team, I've been able to confront my own depression and the addiction that runs in my family. I am 24 now and she will be 17 and on her 17th birthday I plan to get a 'love' tattoo on my left forearm above an existing heart tattoo that I have. It's part of my present to her to show how she's inspired me and how I want to show other people the light that she has shown me. Probably the most fitting aspect of the story is that my niece's name is Faith.

I found out about TWLOHA through Facebook. I was looking for groups where I could find people to talk about my depression to. When I found this one, I was amazed. I'd known people who'd committed suicide in my life, and immediately joined the movement. I think that being part of TWLOHA has made me a stronger person. I'm dealing with my depression positively, and now I'm able to be there for other people who are in need. I've helped several of my own friends find help. To spread the message, I got love tattooed on my wrist. People ask me about it all the time, so I have plenty of opportunity to spread the movement.
