Hello there. I joined in January 2010 but had a very slow start and re-committed full force in April. I am on my 6th week of 4-5 workouts a week/portion control and calorie counting. So far I have lost 12 lbs and I couldn't be happier!

I joined around Feb 6, 2010, and didn't realize there was a group, so I just found it and joined it.
I have lost a total of 23 lbs since July 2009, and 6 lbs since joining SP in Feb. I have about 54 left to go. I have back and knee problems due to an injury, but I know that slow and steady wins the race.

I joined SP February 2nd, but just now checked out the "classes"! I belong to a few other teams, some more active than others, and thought I'd join this one too...

Motivation has been lacking lately so am trying to re-start... I really enjoy SP and have found lots of love and support here!

Hi: Obviously I've been on SparkPeople since the week of Jan. 31 - Feb. 6, but I guess I didn't really realize that there were Teams associated with each start week. So here I am, about 2-1/2 months in like all the rest of you! SO happy to be here with you! Please check out my Page to see a little about me and my goals!

hey everybody, my name is elysia and i joined i think the 2nd of feb 2010. i have been overweight pretty much as long as i can remember. i have two small boys-2yrs and 6yrs. they are extreamely active and i really want to be able to go out and play with them the way the need to. i am so... impressed with this website, and the people here. i have looked into so many other things, weight watchers, jenny craig, even weight surgery. i have a personal theory that if i can learn enough then i can do something without failing, and i have put a lot of time into researching weight loss. i am currently reading the spark book and i am so amazed that someone could... create all this... something so positive just for other people, without costing them anything. i am just so humbled. its what ive always wanted to do with my life, help people. im having a bit of trouble with consistancy and curbing my "junk" eating, but the more i learn from this website and the book the more aha moments i have. i have a few problems with being over stressed but i am trying to take little steps with the program, so im not feeling so overwhelmed. emoticon

I am really new to SparkPeople, having just joined about a month ago. I have made some progress this month by concentrating on what I'm eating, on getting more exercise, and on eating fruits & vegetables. I have always had a weight problem, it seems, and I would like to lose around 50 pounds. I lose very slowly but I have found that in losing 42 pounds already over the past 5 or 6 years, that if I lose slowly, it stays gone!

I have to watch the sodium too. I had high blood pressure when I came back in May. I am off the meds and have it down and I want to keep it that way. I find it is harder to keep the sodium down than to keep the calories down.

Thanks Debbie for your response!
I think I am going to stop using the premade menus and go back to what I was doing before I regained my weight. I was doing so well a couple years ago and I was enjoying my meals too. Although using the premade meals has helped me see what I can do to keep the calories down.
I like the idea that I can check the nutrition stats on SP and will be able to change a few things in my recipes to fit my needs. It helps me keep track of exercise which is where I fell short.
Since I am on a restricted diet, I need to keep track of things like sodium levels as well. I was doing much the same thing as you before I went off on a tangent. Going back to basics sounds like a good idea.

Hi, Sue, welcome! I don't use the premade Spark menus myself. I just stick with basic foods, not much prepared items. Baked or roasted chicken or turkey, rice or sometimes baked potatoes, lots of veggies and salads. I use Mrs. Dash and flavored vinegars a lot.

Hi everyone,
My name is Sue. I am 54 years old and am trying once again to lose pounds that I regained over the past 2-3 years as well as the others I need to lose. I am married and have 5 children between the ages of 28 and 13.
I joined SP on February 4th and have just discovered this class site.
I'm finding new things to do on the site all the time. It can be overwhelming at times.
So far I have lost about 3-4 lbs and am doing pretty well in tracking what I eat and the exercise I do. However, I am not thrilled with the menu choices that are given in the premade menus. I still need to learn to plan my meals better. Any suggestions?
All in all, just wanted to say hi to everyone and hope you are all doing well in your individual challenges! emoticon

Hi, I have been using sparkpeople for a couple weeks now but just now introducing myself. My name is Gina and I live in south Texas. I have four kids ages 21 to 13months! I lost most of my baby weight with this last one but then proceeded to gain it back mainly from not being active enough. My goal was to loose 15 pounds, then I gained five more :-(. This past week I've lost two pounds so headed in the right direction now. I find myself getting depressed because I used to be in such good shape that I climbed mountains and now I can barely climb a set of stairs. Really looking to sparkpeople to provide motivation and help hold me accountable so that I can once again be in great shape, and great health for my kids.

Hi Everyone,
I have to say, some of the things on this site are a bit confusing to navigate but I'm trying! It's a little daunting posting your first comment to someone that has 32,000 posts. Makes you feel like such a newbie that doesn't belong. But I know I do because I want to lose weight and get healthy and that's what it's all about right? Hope to connect with some of you and share our weight loss journey!

Hi,

I'm Cody from Fort McMurray, Alberta. I joined SP 1/31/10 and have been tracking almost every day... (I didn't track last week when I was on vacation...) I find I stay in the groove when it's a work day... and pretty well on track when I'm home on the weekends... but when I do anything that deviates from my normal schedule it all kinda falls apart... but the good news is I was on vacation for a week and I managed to hold to the weight I was before I left (actually I lost 1 oz... ha, ha, ha - the day I got back was my weigh-in day) emoticon

I find my biggest challenge is the exercise part. But I've found a salsa-cise class which is entertaining and she is always changing up the routine so it's hard to get bored. emoticon

Thanks for listening...

Hi all. My name is Shelley. I've done the diet thing since my 1st child was born - 10 years ago, but feel like I never really lost all the weight. I've tried tracking with other diets but the writing down was discouraging and there was always something to do instead of making meetings. I'm new to SP and I love the emails that I'm getting from SP and am grateful for the information and ease of this site. I just bought the book and like how this "thing" is not only about weight! I've never been part of the community part of dieting and hope that this will help me stick with this and get to the healthy person that's waiting inside. :)

Hello everyone. My name is Emily. I've actually been on (and off) sparks for a couple years. I've struggled financially and therefore have lost internet access/sparks access several times within these past years. I've lost 6 lbs since last October and came back here on Feb. 2 trying to stay on track and lose another 10-15lbs. Sparks has helped me a lot in the past and I'm hoping to find some support, give support, have some laughs, and move towards a better me.

Amie, that is great that you have want to have another baby. We are glad you are with us and we hope we can help you to lose those pounds to get you ready to bring joy into the world. thanks for making us part of your world. You can do this!

Tracey - I too am training for a half marathon my first its in april and I am having a great time. One thing that I have discovered about the training - its hard to lose weight while training fo r a half. We have to make good decisions with food choices. I have lost a lot of weight but in the last 7 months - haven't lost alot o f weight but have lost many inches. I would say if you are not doing it already try some Strength training. It has helped so much with my training. good luck if you have any questions - let me know.

Good luck on your journey to better health!

Hi all,

I hope it is ok that I joined this group. Although I have been a member of Sparkpeople, I never really followed the plan at all. In fact until 2 weeks before 1/31/10, I am sure I hadn't been to the site in YEARS!

So my story is this.... a dear friend joined at the beginning of the year and posted her progress on Facebook. This sparked my interest. Then on 1/20/10, I got really sick with severe bronchitis. I missed 8 days of work. Although I am a teacher (teach Chemistry) I couldn't move without coughing, so I started coming back to Sparkpeople. I lost ~7 lbs while I was sick. I didn't want to regain that weight.

So on 1/31/10, I recommited to keeping this weight off and more. I just finished up the Fast Break and moved onto Stage 2 on Sunday. I am now down somewhere between 10-12 lbs since early Jan.

So that is my story. Hope I didn't bore anyone asleep.

Hi, I'm Amie and I'm new last week. So far I have been reading and working on drinking more water, slacking really, but not saying, well, this isn't going to work, I'm giving up.

I want to conceive a baby sometime this year. We have a 14, 11, and 9 year old and have decided to fire up the baby machine one or two more times. With that in mind, I need to lose some weight and get my blood pressure back in a really healthy range to be at my baby-carrying best!

It's good to see so many people here and I am looking forward to getting to know you. ~Amie

Great advice! Thank you so much. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond to my message. I started tracking my fitness this week. This weekend I will start tracking my food. So hopefully I'll get the hang of it by the end of next week. I usually have a hard time figuring out a low cal family friendly dinner to make for a family of 5...I'm going to check out some recipes...but because it takes time to look through them - and they may or may not taste good - I would really appreciate it if you could give me your favorite (already tested) dinner. I'm going to start asking my friends as well. Thanks again for everything! Hope you are doing well with your journey to healthy living!

Tracey, I would say that if you don't have a lot of time, the most important thing to do would be to track your food and fitness every day. I save the things I eat most often so that it is easier to log. You can also copy meals from one day to another if you tend to eat the same thing often.

Hi, my name is Tracey, I just started and am having a hard time spending time on this site - reading all the info, entering all the info, and entering my info every day. I have a business and have to work almost every day of the week - but I do have some flexibility. I am married & have 3 children: 7, 11, & 14. My schedule is busy enough - but their activities and homework, etc. keeps me going 24/7. This is my life and I do love it - I'm just trying to adjust everything so it stops being my excuse. I am training for a half marathon - the race is at the end of March - I'm staying on track with the running - but my eating is still my biggest challenge/hurdle. Any quick easy advice on meals, snacks, etc. (family friendly) would be greatly appreciated - I'll keep getting more and more into the food/calorie part of this site in the days and weeks to come. My goal is to lose 40 pounds by August 1, 2010. Thanks!

Oh, I take the train - one of the main draws for me in moving to the city was the amazing public transport. I'm a lousy driver - Texas should have paid me to leave and get off its roads! LOL! It's a great neighborhood, I live down in the Indian/Paki/Deshi part, on the Woodside border.

Hi my name is Peter and I have a weight problem. I am almost 49 years old and 387 lbs when i started this weight loss journey on Jan.3 and today Jan.8 380. I work crazy hours so my sleep and eating patterns are usually never the same and I have not found a routine yet on how to yet? Then I came across this web site
to look for help. I am a compulsive eater. Eat when sad, eat when happy, eat when tired, eat when I do not have to. So if there are any suggestions out there please help. Thanks Peter

Hi I am also Andrea :) I am 28 year old mother of two kids age 3 & 4. They are with me 24/7 and help me burn lots of calories... but leave me little time for actual workouts. I realized I have to *make* time to exercise and stop making excuses. I lost 10 lbs of Christmas Cookie weight over January and looking to lose 5-7 more pounds in the next few weeks and maintain that weight instead of letting it jump back up. Really looking forward to all the motivation, support and tools here. You can read more about me and my goals on my page.

Hi! I am Andrea. I joined SP almost a week ago and I AM Lovin' it! My ultimate goal is to get to a healthy weight of 145lbs. I have a long journey to make and I know it will be interesting along the way. One day at a time is my approach and I hope to get to know a lot of you along the way. SP is an amazing place and I feel blessed to be part of the community. emoticon

Hi, my name is Donna. I just found out about this site from my neice. Thrilled to be part of this. I have been overweight for 21+ years and never truly had the willpower to change. This is my year. Too many New Year's Resolutions going by and the next year comes and I'm still the same weight. I read somewhere that it takes almost one month to change a bad habit and I truly believe this. I began my new lifestyle on January 5, 2010. I eat healthy, four 400 calories meals daily and work out 2 hours daily, six days per week. I have learned to actually change my eating habits, have had no sugar, no white bread, no soda, no desserts, etc. for the past month. I can't believe I can change after 21 years...also the fact that I go to the gym every morning for 1 hour and at lunch I go to work out with the eliptical and free weights for another hour and I ACTUALLY LOVE IT. I started this new year weighing 235.9 pounds and after one month I lost 18 pounds. I never thought I could do it. I'm so thrilled to read other stories just like mine...how difficult it is and yet people keep on going. Thanks all for this great site...it gives me hope and inspiration that there are others out there struggling to be healthy and thin.

Hi! I'm Tourquoisecat. I am a weight loss leader with another program, but my pacemaker clinician recommended this site. I am a 69 year old grandmother and I still work part time as a counselor. I'm at my goal weight (135). I lost 40 pounds and have kept it off now for eight months. I work out on the treadmill when weather is bad outside and am in fourth week of strength training as well. Still struggle with overeating, though, and lose track of input. Still need to pay attention to what I am doing each and every day. Probably never will be able to go on automatic pilot.

Greetings and felicitations!

I'm Bronwyn. I'm 29 years old and I started losing weight back in January of 2006. Since then I've lost and kept off 90 lbs. Then I plateaued with 30 to go and I've been stuck there for about six months. So I'm here hoping to shed the last thirty or so and keep it gone.

Nice to meet all y'all!
Bronwyn

Don't knock it 'til you've tried it. With your luck, it hits back.

Hey all! I'm Tess and I'm trying to lose 148 lbs. I know that's a huge amount to lose and so I'm going to be doing it with the help of a doctor-managed weight loss program along with the support of our local TOP's group. So glad that Sparks People exists as I have it on my computer and my iPhone to keep me on track! Looking forward to getting to know everyone and want to congratulate all the newbies who have taken their first step towards a healthier life.

Hi,
I've tried so many different programs & diets, only to gain weight back after stopping. I'm hoping this time will be different since I have the support. I'm married and have to daughters ages 17 & 12. I recently retired from the military after 20 years. Heart disease and diabetes run in my family, and I don't want to be the next. This is the time for me!

ROTFLMAO!!! I did the EXACT same thing! You have to put it in in kilos. After that, some places it'll show as kilos and some as the proper pounds. Good Luck! emoticon

But finally i stood on the scale and i told myself i had to o something about it i got two kids and their are alot of health conditions in my family.

Hi Everybody, I am new to SP and am really excited to be making this journey with all of you. I have tried many things in the past and some seem to work for a while and then I would lose my motivation or life would interfere. But this seems like a place where everything comes together to change and improve your whole lifestyle. Still finding my way around the sight but will check in with you all later. emoticon

Hi there.

I have been on several programs before. Some of worked for awhile and then I plateau. THe best thing that works for me is to track everything I do/ intake and to make sure that I eat several small "meals" a day. I was doing that in a journal, but stopped.

Everything this site does I was doing on paper. There was no accountability, support, encouragement... only I saw what I was doing.

I joined cause I kept seeing a friend of mine post things on fb about it. So thought I'd look into it. So far, I am glad I did.

I am going to be making Cottage Pie tonight, but instead of the recipe in the cook book here at home, I am going to use a condensed version from another member on here. YAY!

Hi guys! I'm new to the group but enjoying the site and the book. I've been really motivated to succeed and have been tracking everything - its been great! Like others have mentioned - the structure is great, but i'll also enjoy having 'buddies' to connect and share with! I have a 12 yr old daughter and 8 yr old son - and want to be healthy for me - which in turn allows me to keep up with them :) Great to be here!

Hi Everyone. I'm a forty-something wife and mom, living in beautiful Southern California. Just signed up on SP last night and today is my first day. I'm trying the SP menus, as I think the structure will help me get started on my weight loss journey. My youngest child is 9 years old ... I just can't use the "baby fat" excuse anymore!

Hi all! My name is Brea and I heard about Spark People from a friend. I'm really excited to be involved in this website and get some support. My husband also wants to lose weight, but isn't very motivated about it. I had heart surgery about 2 1/2 years ago and I've put on about 85 pounds since then. I've lost 5 of those lbs, but there is still 80 to lose. I've been trying on my own, but it's really difficult for me. I've cut out fast food and junk food and have been trying to cut down on my addiction to diet soda. I think my biggest problem is exercise. I hate to exercise, but I know I need to. I got really depressed due to my surgery and weight gain and I'm trying to bounce back. I'm really excited to get started here and actually lose this weight!

great to hear you are doing so good with giving up fast food. Eating out and on the run is such a huge thing these days. That has to be one of the biggest lessons I have learned, if you didn't cook it, then you don't know what's in it. We have to know exactly what we are putting into our bodies if we are going to take control. Good Luck to you!

Hey guys,

I'm Dan, a 26 year old radio show host and producer from Kelowna, BC.

I keep trying to lose weight, drop about 5, and then put on 10 because I feel the need to celebrate. I'm a fast food addict, but can say that I'm a few days shy of a month without.

This is my first day on SparkPeople, and I'm looking forward to meeting some people and doing this together!
