Hi everyone! My name's Tina. I lost more than 90 pounds a few years ago and am about 110 pounds under my all-time high. With more than two years of maintenance under my belt, I think I can safely say that I can truly start shifting my focus from worrying about my weight to building and keeping up the best and healthiest body I can. I'm looking forward to learning from and sharing with everyone here.

My name's Tina. I lost more than 90 pounds between March 2010 and March 2012 and have been keeping if off ever since.

I have exercised off & on mostly in the past 14 years after seeing how gross flabby skin is. Yes that's a skinny-fat, and you think I would learn from that. I always have to keep pushing myself, and so here I go again emoticon .

Hello everybody

I'm 43 and I'm new to spark. My wife and I just joined the YMCA and I'm hoping to get into shape for my 2 granddaughters that are due in August. I started out at 348 pounds and I have lost 5lbs since last week because of Spark.

HELLO!! I'm excited to be apart of this team! I've been working hard on shedding the fat and buildin muscle. I'm now working with a personal trainer who's been body building for 10+ years. Along with working out with her, I also do kickboxing, running, yoga, biking, you name it....love to keep my self challenged and motivated!! I'm already seeing a difference in my body transformation and can't wait to see what else I can do!

Greetings everyone! Just joined the team. Fairly new to SP. I'm 49 yr old male and just getting back to the gym after several years off and a couple of low back surgeries. I let myself get into fairly poor shape (6', 205); after 5 mos of hard work, finally back to 185..just starting to get a bit of strength back. Now I'm ready to begin adding some muscle. I am a thin guy; I'm hoping to be able to put on some muscle. I know it's going to be a challenge at my age but I'm highly motivated. I'm looking forward to reading how others accomplish this. I always appreciate any input and feedback regarding nutrition plans and workout strategies.

New to Spark new to being out of shape. I need know how and motivation. I`m not happy with what I see in the mirror nor the recluse, I`ve become. I think Spark is exactly what I need to get in gear and giving it the gas.

Hi Guys and Gals!
My name is Matt. I am 41 (next month) and found this team as a possible inspiration. My story is similar to many of yours and like yours "no more excuses" I worked out and practiced what I preached in my late 20's. Got married when I was thirty; divorced when I was thirty one and the rest is history. I fell off my own pedistal and found comfort in the bottle. I am in sales and while I succeeded at my job I lost sense of who I was. I recently went to the doctors after 8 years for a check up and was told that I have metabolic syndrome; basically all the signs of bad health that lead to worse things down the road. I need to find that what was important to me years ago and get back up on the saddle. My current weight is #255 which is a far cry from my competitive weight of #187 such a short time ago; okay 12 years ago. I look forward to interacting with you and learning what works and what doesn't work. Please take a look at my page and offer some support or advice. I look forward to discussing your progress as well.

Take care!
Matt

Happy, happy, happy

Hi everybody! I am a newbie to this team. My name is Laurie. I have been lifting since high school, sometimes more seriously than other times, and now am going toward competing in masters bodybuilding instead of only fitness. I have a feeling that this journey will be challenging because I am now 43 and was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2005, but I am going to try anyway!! In my real life I am a RN and a group fitness instructor and I have a 14 year old dog named "montana".

I love the idea of this team, a community of experienced lifters, beginners and everyone inbetween!!

Hi. This idea of weight training and sculpting my body is very new to me.
Over the last 30 years my goal has always been to lose weight but I was never concerned with weights or training. I only seriously added cardio w/ circuit in the last 6 mo.

Yesterday however, I hired a trainer and am now understanding the importance of weight training to losing weight AND LOOKING GOOD.
I have a pretty good attitude right now and feel this may become a new way of life for me.

I'm a little worried about going into my first session this morning. I'm afraid I won't be able to remember everything I'm told or that I'll be embarrassed by my inability to do much of anything but we'll see how it goes.

Thanx for visiting my post.
:O)

Hello,

I don't know anything about weight lifting. But I am willing to learn. I am looking for the fastest results. The only suppliment that I am willing to take is whey isolate. For cardio I am running. So where should I start.

Hello. I am new to this team. I'm taking my life back and getting back into shape. 10 years ago i used to lift and circute train 6 days a week. Then we had our first son and life kicked in a didnt make time for it any more. I ballooned up to 419 pounds and I'm ready to get the rest of it off!!! I'm looking for positive teams to help keep me on track and focused on my goal.
I'm back on my old lifting and cardio routine and feeling better than i have in a long time.

My name is Lesli and I am 35. I lost almost all my weight (60 pounds) in 2004 using WW. I kept it off until we moved and i have to commute for 2.5 to 3 hours a day. I gained it all back with the out to lunch eating and total lack of exercise. That was 3 years ago. Lost 12 pounds last year and I am determined to lose 45 this year. I would like to lose 35-45 by June for my son's graduation.

I am currently trying to mostly eat whole foods with no sugar. I say mostly because I do eat a bagel now and then. I have lost 4 pounds since the start of january.

I work out at home on the eliptical and treadmill if it is raining or dark. I much prefer to going running outside. I did a few 5ks last year and I really liked the feeling of that accomplishment. This July I am doing a surivor run (like the warrior dash) with my sister and I need to really start working harder on the strength portion. I had to cut the gym membership but i am working out at home.

I am a mother of 4 and grandmother to 2. and I think that is about it. :)

Hello, I am a 46 year old grandmother of 3 and mother of 2. My goal is to get as fit as possible by the time I am 50 years old. I know that is a long time but I am in this for a lifetime not just for the next couple of months. So I am taking it slow. I have been lifting weights 2 times a week for the past couple of months and can tell a difference. Not necessarily in the mirror because I still have alot of fat on me. I can however see it in how much weight I can lift and how many reps I can do. I am excited to find a place where I can go and ask questions.

Hi everybody. I was seeing a trainer off and on for a year, but now I am training on my own. I have lost 30 lbs in the last year, and put on a good deal of muscle.I am trying to both train for running, and strength training. I have been overweight all of my adult life and decided that's not who I am anymore. Sparks has really helped me, and I hope to learn a lot from this Team.

I am Beth, 47 on Monday, and have 3 girls ages 22, 21, 12 (soon to be 13 - going on 30).....
Happily married love my life EXCEPT the food baby I carry around with me.... I don't distribute weight all over my body just in my belly and I always look pregnant..... so I have decided to lose the food baby slowly and keep it off. My goal is to keep it off for life... I know I can do it as I have done it in the past just didn't keep it off...... I will excercise more and tone up my body and give up eating a box (yes box) of goldfish in one sitting.............. and all other horrible carbs.... I will drink more water..... But I need motivation which is why I joined spark.... so I can read the blogs and see the pics of everyone else making progress.

Hey everyone my name is Josh. I am new to Spark People my wife told me about it. I am really trying to lose my gut. I am pretty strong I go to gym everyday and do the elliptical. I can't really run because I have a torn meniscus in my right knee and starting phiscal therapy, I possibly might have to have surgery but I hope not. My ultimate goal in life is to become a police officer. I also need to be able to make my breathing better because I have asthma. Just looking for a friend to help me out and some motivation cause I know I can do it.

Hi I am a long standing sparker. I have been creeping around spark strengthening team all morning....I am not new to weight lifting. Mostly use hand weights and stretchie bands. I had a pilates ball but my youngest boy loved it as much as I did. Getting another one soon. I am not the gym type. Tryed it. I have my own routine (no expert here.)Just came in for some support on my own journey and to make a couple friends along the way.

Only two weeks into the Spark site and have really enjoyed it so far. I have spent almost as much time here reading blogs, articles, etc., as I do working!
My goal is to basically lose weight and build up some muscle. I am currently spending 3 days a week on cardio in the gym and 2 days with full body workouts. Also am in the process of beginning cycling. Have been following the advice as close as possible and look forward to meeting other folks with the same or similar goals.

Hi!

I am new to the team and looking forward on getting started on my goals! I'm taking an "off" week currently as I am sick as a dog, but am prayerful it passes in time to start fresh next. I've purchased ChaLEAN Extreme and Turbo Fire so we'll see how it goes; BB.com products haven't always "WOWed" me in the past. I also struggle with doing the same thing for too long.

I'm looking forward to tracking some progress and meeting ppl along the way!

Hello,

New to SPARK!
I just ran a marathon and it's time to get huge. I love working out and setting goals. The thought of having a team behind me seems like more than enough motivation to achieve anything.

Hey, I've been active on SP just over a year now and am getting ever closer to the end goal and maintenance time, just over 20 pounds to go.

I go to the gym 5 days a week, usually Mon-Fri, for about 2 hours a day. Usually an hour to 90 minutes of cardio and 30-45 minutes of strength (4 days a week). I lift heavy and love strength training.

I tend to do solo stuffs, like elliptical, running, and mix up the routines a lot, varying intervals and resistances. Just started getting into Spin class for something different.

Looking forward to getting more buffed.

Hi. My name is David
I've been playing around in the gym for the last couple of years, joined SP about a year ago.
I'm half way to my weight loss goal... but have been here for a long time. I like weight lifting a whole lot more than aerobics, so I'll start an aerobics program and then find myself back in the weights within 2 weeks.
I think I have finally formed a decent nutrition plan that will assist me - keep me gaining muscle and loosing fat.
I have also struck on a weight lifting regiment that I believe will aid in the fat loss. It's based on the "German Volume Training" (10 x 10 Set & Rep) except that I doing it in a circuit routine.
I'm working on a HIIT cardio program... because there's just no way around it.
I also have crazy bad knees - I'm talking that it is to the point that leg workouts make my right knee go out for the next couple of days. Needless to say, I'm trying to figure out how to build my legs and keep walking at the same time.

Hi,

I started SP last year but kind of fell away on the nutrition. I did keep walking and jogging. In January, I joined a gym and am loving it. I go 5 days a week for 3-4 hours a day. I am blessed to be able to do that and I don't want to get burnt out. So I thought, join this team and when I start feeling burnt, I know you all will come to encourage me.

I have lost 26 lbs since Jan. 10 and am so excited to see these results and actually feel muscle in my legs and arms. YEAH!

Hey! Welcome back. It sounds like you are doing well. It takes REAL dedication to hit the gym at 4 am six days per week. This is especially true for cardio. It will be great to hear from you and more on your progress.

Hello everyone! My goal for this year is to regularly strength train 2-3 days/week in addition to my running. I am recovering from a shoulder injury, so I haven't been able to do the training I wanted to, but should be off the DL in the next few days.

Hello! Thank you for welcoming me to your team. 2010 is the year that I am working towards my goal: Being fit and fab! I am currently doing a variety of exercise and for the first time in my life and keeping tabs on my calories through the nutrition input page. It takes discipline but it is paying off. I have been exploring lots of diet options such as sugar free. That is a challenge with Jorge Cruise saying to limit it to 15 grams per day. I have not been successful despite not being a sweet tooth. I am learning heaps and look forward to building my strong body. Looking forward to lots of support and ideas from this team! emoticon

Welcome Sunlover....

And remember the FITNESS FORMULA:

80-10-10

80% NUTRITION
10% EXERCISE
10% GENETICS

(oh, and from my personal experience....
the 10% genetics definitely affects the 80% nutrition
in other words - One MUST be mindful of their diseases or conditions in regards to their food choices)

Happy New Year everyone. I am looking forward to this year as being the one when I start yo-yo diet/exercising and start being healthy day in and day out.

I am 195 lbs and ready to lose the fat and gain muscle back. Not sure if I'll reach my ideal weight of 145 lbs because I want to have a great beach body...but that's something I'll figure out as I go along. I am also looking forward to going down in my pant sizes--I'm embarrassed about how I've let myself go, how I usually wear a fast drying shirt when swimming so people don't see my rolls, lack of definition, and moobs...well that ends THIS YEAR!

By the time summer rolls around and the lake warms up I plan to look great without a shirt on...and when we go to Hawaii in 2011, I will still look that great because I'm keeping up with the program.

Plus it is always great to look hot for my wife and have her drooling over the man she married .

Welcome to the team. Powerlifting....great. There are a few teams out there with dedicated power lifters. I'm sure they have a few serious tips.
On dead lifts...I generally don't use more than 60 pounds and go only until I feel the warmth in my quads and buttocks. Any back tenderness - I stop.
I know a few people who 'worked through the pain' on that particular exercise and now have bulging discs.
Not worth it for me....there are many great exercises for the hamstrings....dead lifts is only one.
My favorite overall leg exercise is the box climb.
I was an avid FIRM girl for years.
Now I simply love Cathe Freidrich....
They both incorporate the high step and box climb in their workouts.

Good luck on your quest.

Hi! I love your challenges, they will keep me on the right track. I have been using Spark for a year and a half and have lost just over 50 pounds. I run, swim and lift weights at the YMCA in Longview, Washington. Right now I am ready to mix things up again and try power lifting. Any advice on deadlifts would be great, I have read a lot on line, but there is no substitute for personal experience:) emoticon

Welcome to the team.

Muscle is so much more desirable than fat...FOR SURE.
I'd rather be bulky and strong than fat and wimpy.

Do what you can - your body will love you for it!

I am a 27 year old who is interested in lifting for my health. I was kinda worried about bulking up, but the articles that i have read on the matter have explained that women just don't have the hormones to bulk up. Well not normally, some women are just born with more testosterone than others. But from what I understand muscle burns more fat so I want more muscle.

What ever does not kill me will make me stronger.

I go to the gym off and on. I get serious about workouts and then I don't follow through as I get bored quite easily. I just started back to the gym this month after being in hiding for three months. I need suggestions and motivation frequently. I am going to give it a shot one more time on getting buffed as my daughter says it!

Hi. My name is Lois, I'm English and currently enduring a very miserable wet summer over here. I have been on (and off) Spark for quite a while really, I only really engaged with it all last year and I lost over a stone... and then gained it back. BUT I am still here and still determined to learn from my mistakes and get fitter. More about me on my Spark page! This looks like a great team and I look forward to joining the challenges.

Hi everyone,

I'm almost 51 and am a newbie to weight training. I joined a strength class at the local Senior Citizen's Center (me, a senior citizen? Egads!) and have been going to the classes which are twice a week/Mon and Thurs.
I feel like I should probably be hitting the gym on at least one of the non-class days...maybe Saturday to spread it out?
I enjoy the training, but of course have the impatience of a newbie. I wanna be buff and I want it NOW! LOL
I don't have much weight to lose but am in desperate need of muscle tone. I'd love to see some definition...oh and a 6-pack wouldn't be half bad either. emoticon
There's a lot to learn about training and nutrition, but I'm looking forward to the journey.

Not all who wander are.......dang, lost again!

HI All,my name is Arnold and I have just started training again. Took about a decade off from fitness maybe a few more years on top of that. Was fit all my life, family, job and life changed all that. Now I am in a good position to dedicate myself back into the fit world. I have body fat up or around 20% or more. I am guessing on that until I have it tested. I was into body building for many years so I have an idea of where I am at. My goal is to be at 190 lbs at 10% I stand at 5'10". Being 46 I have a challenge although I weigh 200lbs. right now I have a lot of fat to drop and a lot of muscle to gain...This is exciting to have these old juices flowing again...Anyone feel free to call me out as I find that will help keep me on track...Thanks...

Hello. Working out at the gym with a trainer 3x a week and then doing cardio. I am going to be trying out a kettlebell class. I plan on being at least 40 lbs down by November. emoticon

Hi, I'm Sara ;0) I'm just starting to get into the 'workout' mode... I'm swimming daily and trying to get in some weight time. Since I got married I went from a size 0 to a size 8 :( Def. NOT happy about that. (My disclaimer is that my doc. put me on a dif. birth control ~ gained 25lbs in 2-3 months).

Anyway, I finished my bach degree and joined the Air Force so I'm working to get my butt in shape before they do it for me :0)

Hi, I'm Robin
I enjoy weight lifting, kickboxing, and general exercise. I was into body building and power lifting when I was in my 20's well at 49 I've decided it's time to continue that strategy. I enjoy it, it motivates me and is plain healthy. I hope to meet some people with similar interests and motivation.

Hi I am Viollet. I am a newbie to toning up. I do yoga once a week but would like to add a couple of other weight days to my week. Can't afford a gym membership so have to do it at home on the cheap. Any suggestion would be great!

Hi. I am Sara and i am trying to lose an excess 20-30 pounds i have been carrying around for the last three years. It has not been smooth. A little of the weight has come off but progress is not as swift. I had worked out regularly for most of last year then we moved to another state and it took me a while to get back on track. I feel i am on track now. I walk in the park 3-4 days a week, i work on the treadmill at the gym 2 times a week, weights 2-3 times a week and in addition to this i do zumba dance 3 times a week and kickboxing once a week. I have cleaned up my eating so for about 3 weeks i ditched soda and junk food and i have been sticking to healthy food, veggies and fruits. I have a problem with portions but i am working on that. What else can i do to ensure i stay on track. Sorry, its too long an introduction!

Hi! I'm James from Canada. I'm new to SparkPeople and of course, new to the team. I got into weight lifting three years ago, but school kinda got in the way, so I've been lifting on and off, on and off, on and off. It's really annoying and I wanna get back on track (and be able to go continuously), so here I am :)
