I think we all mostly read articles, focus on good nutrition and exercise, and just go from there. For example, today's calories for me are in a good range (1482) - but dinner was a slice and a half of pizza, followed by some coffee cake. Not diet food, but limited portions, lots of vegs on the pizza, and the coffee cake is part whole wheat and I used yogurt instead of sour cream, so the fat is a bit lower. You learn to make healthy substitutions, and how to make better choices.
So read those articles, read people's blogs, and you'll do this!
