My best advice is to train, taper, relax, and enjoy the the feel of the road under your feet. Are you using a training plan?

Good morning runners... I am so glad I found this team.
My name is Jackie and I have been running for about a year. I have completed 2 5K's and 2 10K's in the past 3 months. I am now training for the Rock-n-Roll 1/2 Marathon in New Orleans in February. I am so fired up for it!!!
I use Nike+ GPS on my iPhone and love, love, love it. Besides tracking my miles, I like going online, setting goals, and watching my progress. In fact, that is how I found this team.
I am looking forward to getting to know you guys and share the joys and challenges of running. emoticon

Hi!
I'm a new runner - I honestly have to say that I've never considered myself a 'runner' (i've been much more of an 'eater') however with my Nike+ it's been a really great motivational tool, I'm looking to do my first 5k soon. Please feel free to add me on the Nike+ dashboard as I use that almost as much as Sparkpeople, the name's the same :) I'm really looking forward to being part of the group. emoticon

Welcome! I'm sorry to say I've not been running regularly but if you have any questions about it I think I might be able to answer them or I'm sure some of the other people here could. I need to get back on track myself.

Hi Everyone. My name is Lexi and I'm a newbie to Spark and a fairly new runner. I live in New Zealand.
I was excited to come across this team as I find my Nike + really motivating and am looking forward to chatting with others who use it. I'm especially interested in picking the brains of all those experienced runners out there for info and tips!

Welcome Greylocke! I got my husband his first Nike+..and now I'm thinking about giving him a Garmin for Father's Day because he's become more of a runner than me..lol. We both use the Nike+ system too. Sorry for the late welcome I've been enjoying your blogs!

PJLitttle..I'm very sorry for the late welcome but you are indeed welcome. I am with you right now, using my Nike+ for walking more than running. I hope to build my running back up soon but my plantars is back in my left foot and some ankle pain in the right. I am glad to have you here.

Hello
New to the team and relatively new to SP but have run off and on since elementary school. I have used the Nike plus with Ipod for about 18 month. I actually bought it for my wife but she never used it so I claimed it. I am a seasoned half marathoner who may someday do a marathon. I joined SP to lose the last 25 pounds. I started back running 5 years ago when the scales went of 240. Some say it is a slow process but the way I see it as it took me 25 years to put on the weight and only 5 to take most of it off if I stay on track.

You can blame Luv-2-Run for telling me about this team emoticon

Hey I just got my nike + and shoes for Mother's Day. I used to run cross country in high school. Way back in the day when my high school hadn't heard of a girl's cross country team. I was aweful, always last but I still loved "running" Now at nearly 200 lbs I am mostly walking! I am going to try to add some running in but it will be small bits at a time since I have planter fascitis and everytime I run my knees kill and then I have a hard time making the three flights of stairs up to my apartment. But I will not give up and this new nike + system and maybe this team will help me along! My challeng to myself - Can I get in shape enough to enter and run a 5k by next Mother's Day! Question to myself - Where will you be in a year's time.

Pam

Hey guys just checking in. I've been running and it feels good. I've been using all of my new free time to organize my household and to work out. Its the most "me time" I've ever had. I'm beginning to think that is what I am supposed to learn from all of this. I am surprised how much better I feel with most things organized around me. Makes everything seem less chaotic. I'm going to try to keep it all up once I find a job. It feels great.

Thanks to you both. You're right running has been my safe haven. I just recently got off the treadmill and hit the road. It has really been great. I have surprised myself in how much further I can go and how I've been able to keep a reasonable pace too. I just heard about a friend of my sister's who recently passed from breast cancer. She was 43. When I started to begin my own pity party I thought about her and how she would have liked to have my health even if I cant find a job. Eye opening.

First of all, I'm so sorry that this has happened to you. I'm also laid off and I know where you're at. I'm glad you got back out there on the road. It is funny how these things can actually inspire us to get out there. Sounds like you're digging out. Just try to stay positive. It's hard but on days where I'm going crazy because there are no jobs to even apply to, I hit the streets and run. It helps.

Hey everyone. I've really been on a crappy slide for the last month. I lost my job unexpectedly and it really knocked me for a loop. I stopped logging my food and even going on to SP altogether. I'm trying to turn it around, stay positive, and use all the time productively. I've just about cleaned my entire house and have cooked dinner more in the last three weeks than I have in months. I've also tried to get back into a running routine. I have been running since last September but have always been on the treadmill. I finally hit the road and I have to say I do like it.

Hi Everyone! I started running (well trying to) in about September last year. I got a sportsband for Christmas and ran my first 5k race at the end of January.
I'm new to Spark and really enjoying learning about all of the great tools on the site. I was excited to find this group as I love being able to track my runs with the sportsband. I find it very motivating.

Hi! I just got my Nike+ Sport Band today! It was a belated birthday present. emoticon

I must say that receiving it in the mail today was inspiring. I've let SP, c25k training and exercise in general fall by the wayside for the last month or so. I've got a 5k coming up in April that I will probably walk more than run. But there are always other chances, right? And my new Nike+ was exactly what I needed to get me moving again!

Feel free to friend me on Nike+. My user name there is OregonSunshine.

Hi all! I got my SportBand for Christmas along with my first pair of actual running shoes (Nike Zoom Vomero). I've been on SparkPeople for a while now, but haven't really utilized it that much. The SportBand has added some motivation to running, and I really feel like I might have found a group to fit in with here :)

I try to run at least 3 times a week right now. My goal is to enter into a marathon towards the end of 2011. Right now my long run is up to 9 miles, and my "regular" runs are about 4 - 4.5 miles at around a 9:30/mi pace. I'm also entering into 5k races this spring/summer. My PB 5k is 24:30, I'm hoping to get that down to 21:00 by Thanksgiving. My PB 1 mi. is 6:55. And that's about ALL I can say about my running right now.

I've been an on and off dieter/exerciser for about 4 years now. I really want to settle in and just live a healthy, reasonable life. I'm currently down about 35 pounds from my high weight, and want to take off another 10 or so.

I'm looking forward to participating in the group :)

Please contact me as much as you'd like. Just don't take it personally if I don't get back to you right away; this is new to me! ;)

Hi All,

First and foremost, I LOVE my Nike+ Sport Band! it has revolutionized the way I run! Second, I have been battling an achilles injury. Cranked my mileage way down the past two weeks, but I still did get out last M-F.

I'm hoping to meet a couple of others who I can have a core group of go-to buddies.

I'm a runner, but my diet is atrocious. When I'm not running I'm a couch potato.

I've tried getting my act together before with varying degrees of success, but something has always knocked my off motivation-train early on.

I recently met Ali Vincent, the first woman to win the Biggest Loser, and read her book shortly after. She is inspiring, I have some clear goals in mind this time, ad I'm not embarrassed to share them: I want to compete as an athlete with the best of the best runners (within reason, of course.) I've always been afraid to admit that because I don't fit the bill. I can come up with a million excuses for why I shouldn't try, but I need to start looking at this a goal I can work towards. I want it, I will work for it. I have nothing to lose.

Feel free to shoot me a message or anything. I'd love to hear from anyone, but a couple of runner-chicks would be exceed my dreams!

Best to everyone!

Hi everyone! I got my nike + for christmas but here in New England it has been too cold to run that much! I worked my BUTT off to get through the couch25k program and finished @ Thanksgiving and have since run 2 5ks. I get myself out there once a week for 2 miles so I don't have to start at the beginning come spring. My short term run goal is to work up to 5 miles by 5/30 so I can enjoy my next 5k! Great idea for a group! My nike id is Hy_patia there also..feel free to friend me!

Hello! I just joined the group and wanted to reconnect with SP. I've been a SP member since Summer 2003. I had an internship with their now defunct service organization, SparkPeople Service. I've been running with my nike+ wristband since July 2008. Love it! Just looking for some motivation to keep on running!

Hi everyone!

I'm Kat and I've been running with my Nike+ iPod sport kit for almost 3 months. I love the way it pushes me to run faster and farther each time.

Nice to meet all of you!

Hello,

My name is Wendy and Iíve been using the Nike + for about a year now. I love it and wouldnít run without it! I find the site very motivating and often the only thing that drags me out of bed at 4am is the knowledge that Iím about to reach one of my goals!

Iíve entered the Las Vegas Half Marathon on Dec 6, so Iím pretty motivated right now to get going to ensure I can do the entire 13.1 miles.

Iím looking forward to joining the Sparkteam challenge and chatting with you all about running and the Nike +.

I am a beginner runner, there are a few of us here. We are also lucky to have some more seasoned runners who give terrific advice. Please feel free to start topics, ask questions, give advice!..Welcome!

Hi, my name is Nancy and I am looking for a group that will keep me motivated to keep running during these cooler and colder months coming soon. So far this looks like a great group. I am looking forward to getting to know you all.

I got the Nike+ sportkit at the end of August and I am surprised at how much that has motivated me. Last year at this time I was not able to run .10 mile. I ran the Nike Human Race last month and surprised myself in that I was actually able to jog the whole thing. WhooHoo! (Haven't been able to do that time since though)

Hi everyone. I have been using Nike+ for about 3 months now and due to the weather changes and Halloween candy I am up for a new challenge. What are your Nike+ names or link to the challenge on Nike+?
Also I know it is horrible to hear (I forgot my Nike+ on the day of a 10 mile race) but you cannot manually enter races on the Nike+ site.
I am looking forward to some new motivation-so thanks for making this challenge!

I found the challenge. I will get started today. Looks fun! BTW my running shoes of choice are Nike Air Pegasus, I have been running in them since middle school. You should only getting running shoes at a sporting goods or running shoe store. You can mess up your knees pretty bad if you go to Kohls or Sears and buy their version of a woman's running shoe. I found that out the hard way.

I'm glad it counted them. That board was acting up over the weekend. I think the big Human Race had the website kind of wonky.

As for your times...they are wonderful! I am working to get there.

It did count them, though it just took a bit to find them. LOL, i'm 3rd on the team.

I go running once a week about 6-8km and then what ever i do appart from that. This weekend will be 10km.

Otherwise, i have done 2 5km races, my first one i took 33mins59.5seconds, and the last one (6th oct) 32mins 50 seconds.

My goal is to run the 5km in under 30 mins.

Marlis, If you can manually enter it I think it should count. The challenge started yesterday. I'm really new to the Nike+ band myself and don't know if you can enter it like that. I do know that there is another site I use to track my Nike+ miles called Runner+

Here is the URL:http://www.runnerplus.com/

At this website you can synch your runs from the Nike+ board. Even if we can't count it at the Nike+challenge board (official board) I don't want to see miles run lost..by any means..that's work.

Hello TNDIXON76..welcome to the group....

I need a new pair of gym/running shoes anyway so I'm gonna check out the Nikes and the brand you have...the ones I have aren't designed for running since there isn't a lot of cushioning...I'm not trying to get shin splints or whatever...

Hello my new team!!

I have been running including a walk in between for the past three days. I have an Itouch and the Nike + sensor and sportsband. I love it. My husband bought it for me for my birthday. What I need now is the pouch to put in my shoe for the sensor. I put it under my inside sole but after running for some time I start to feel it and it's very uncomfortable. I started running because I felt like taking my workout to another level. I thought it will kick up my weight loss progress. Since my weight had stopped dropping for some time until I started running and I lost 4lbs. My longest run was 10 miles and burned 1000 calories in one day. I couldn't believe I did that much. I am ready for the challenges SO LET'S GET CRACKING!!!

Nope you don't need the shoes. If you want them you can get them but I haven't found a pair of Nikes that I like. I'm going to post a video in here of how to make it work without the shoes..it's what I did.I wear Asics Foundations.

http://www.youtube.com/user/iamjames2#p/
u/16/VbjB0qp1ioM

I did this with the velcro patch and sewed it in. Once my laces were over it, it didn't budge! Watch that video..nope you don't need the shoes.

They only care about making money...people would have to purchase new stuff in order to make it work...

But to make sure I would need the Nike+ shoes and the band/kit, right? I know I don't necessarily need the Iphone 3GS or the Nano but the other things are necessary right?

Welcome Sparkle!

That's my focus too. The stamina part is really hard for me. Just running for a few minutes straight is difficult. I envy those who just can run and run no problem. For me right now it's work but when I'm done I feel like I've accomplished something. Truthfully it's one of the hardest things I've ever done.

I was really mad that Nike and Apple didn't make the sensor adaptable to ALL Ipod products which would have made more sense. More people would get them. I feel like I've purchased their products faithfully and they should care about that.

I am researching the band now and will more than likely purchase one...too bad it isn't compatible with the Iphone 3G..hopefully Apple will do an update and include the Nike Band as part of it...

Looking forward to getting to know everyone and becoming a real "runner"...right now, I'm at the level before you can claim to be a "novice"...I'm not aiming for any marathons just yet but want/need to build my stamina and endurance...that's my focus for now!!!

My name is Michelle. A little about me. I'm new to running. I'm not someone who has run all her life. But I am someone who recognizes that running may help me reach my goal faster. I've made the decision that running will be a part of my life. I created this group for people who want to run or maybe have started running and are using the Nike+ system. I just purchased my Nike+ Sportsband and I am using it.

I am currently training for my first 5k race in November. And the sportsband has helped me track my running. I wanted to welcome anyone who is using the system or thinking about it. Or anyone who is new to running. I don't care if you have the band or not..but if you want to participate in the challenges you should have the band to verify your progress. I am considering non sports band challenges and if I get enough requests I'll create a forum for that. Welcome!
