I am still busy, but losing lbs and inches little by little. I just had a great drs appt too! They are really happy with my progress with my weight loss and BP. They just cut my Blood pressure medicine in half again so now I just have to take 1/4th of a pill a day. She did suggest that I check out the DASH diet for high blood pressure thought, so going to try to start that today too. I had a bunch of ex ray and I am going to be sent to PT to try to check out my back and side issues, so finally after almost a year, maybe I can get that to stop hurting me.

I have a question, do anyone use natural estrogen? Where do you get it?
My levels are low not bad but I do not want to do the patches the doctor wants me to. I want to try to get them up with a natural cream if I can.
Any thoughts?

New survey shows winter Mexican habitat at smallest on record. Genetically-modified crops in the corn belt is the primary culprit behind the precipitous monarch declines over the past 3 years. At least 167 million acres of monarch habitat has been lost since 1996. www.startribune.com/lifestyle/health/24260

I am considering keeping Winter themed...i.e. snowmen & snowflakes up until Spring..I like this idea because here in MN we get to celebrate all 4 seasons..albeit sometime all in a short period of time! that said...my sled outside my kitchen door...see my Pinterest Christmas & Winter board for this, my snowmen & snowflakes will celebrate this Season where we are to rest, reflect and enjoy the peace & quiet of the Season as all nature restores its energy to burst forth in Spring with a re-birth- full of beauty and vitality.

What is Christmas ?

I love the sights and sounds of Christmas;
Especially, the emoticon church bells as they ring.
They welcome the children of God inside
Where voices unite in praises to sing. emoticon

Those beautiful hymns emoticon honor the Savior
Born in a stable long ago.
There, angels proclaimed Him the "Son of God"
And Kings came following the star's emoticon bright glow.

Christ came to earth to die on a cross emoticon
In payment for our sin.
Salvation is ours, Heaven is Home;
His gift to those who believe in Him. emoticon

What emoticon gift can we lay at the Savior's feet
For our all can ne'er repay?
"Do unto others as I have done for you"
Are the words I hear Him say.

He set the example of how to live.
Obedience to His will is due.
I'll share and care for His sheep in need;
Not just today, but all of life through.

emoticon Happy Birthday, Lord.  Accept my gift.

I have cooked down the carcass and de-boned it. the meat is in the freezer and the stock is cooling outside so I can remove the fat layer. then the stock will be stored in the freezer for future use. We don't try to eat it all day after day but spread it out and enjoy it in various ways. emoticon The tree & decorations are now up too!

How is everyone's sleep? I just read an article that I think may be of help. It certainly enlightened me about a few foods I had no idea could cause problems sleeping. You know how they say not to eat a meal before bed or even exercising heavily because of how it your body responds to the food? Well here is an article dealing with how to get better sleep and wake up refreshed by avoided these "sleep-sabotaging foods."

This article lists the 8 worst foods to avoid for 3 hours before bed. The foods are not bad foods, they are good in fact but they are bad if enjoyed within 3 hours of bed. The article goes into why they are bad choices if you want a good night’s sleep.

I have listed them here for those that don’t go to links. Avoid for 3 hours before bed:

IT is beautiful outside right now...all the trees and shrubs are flocked with snow. The sun is just coming up and the snow is glistening. It is quiet, peaceful and lovely to see...that said I am glad I was able to get outside to do a bit in the gardens before it came. I am also glad that we have all the staples on hand so we don't have to venture out in this first snow of the season.
Staples...milk, eggs, cereal, dogfood! emoticon

I my self have had a very hard time getting over the death of my beloved grandson in 2008. I miss him every day. It is something you have to learn to not let it take you down. I always try to think of his giving to our lives. He is the one, the Blonde hair in my iID picture here on SP, that is his sister my granddaughter Naomi, with him. she was so close to him.

Im starting to take control of my life today. I will take care of me, love my self., be good to my self, I am strong, i can do this.

EJ I understand where you are coming from...lost my father, aunt and father in law within 3 months of each other the same year and those dates were our daughter's birthday, our anniversary and my birthday. People at church said we should be over it....NEVER...you get on with it but never over the loss of loved ones.

STILL going thru papers, getting rid of electronics we no longer use, etc

emoticon for info. about chives!

Let me know if anyone wants input on freezing kale... We can grow it almost year-round here, but it does get attacked by aphids when in stress, and of course the wildlife like it too.

Chives
I cut some up as I would use for baked potatoes or omelets and fill ice cube trays...then top off with water and freeze. When the cubes are frozen I put them in a ziploc freezer bag. Just put them in a bowl when you want to thaw and viola! fresh green chives!

Next trick I just learned this summer...Take glass jars..from pasta sauce, olives, whatever you have and cut your chives to the length that they will fit into the jar...with a wee bit of space between then and the lid. Put the lid on and store on a refrigerator shelf or in the door. I have done this and kept them fresh for almost a month...and counting. IT has been so convenient that I have been using these instead of walking out into the garden. But now I want to bottle them up...who knows I can see me using them to garnish a veggie dish for Thanksgiving!

Are you willing to tell us how you "save" your chives? ...Cut up & dry...or freeze...or??? I have some out the front door and don't know how to save them. I just cut and use (when I remember!).
I need to get kale in the freezer before the deer eat it. (Last year they cleaned us out : (

I spent a goodly amount of time working on my pantry because I have canned zucchini relish, emoticon apple butter, cherry jelly & emoticon preserves, etc. and needed to make room for them and take stock of what I had.

I need to gather chives before we have a heavy frost so I can enjoy them in omelets and baked potatoes for the next couple of months.

I have taken my last pill and will now have to go in to insure the infection has been taken care of.

Isn't today gorgeous? Gentle wind, warm sun emoticon and leaves emoticon turning color!

I am still with crystal light, but I am finally not binging and getting some plain water in me. I have been like this for 2 full days and today would make a 3rd day. It still takes someone to talk me out of starting a binge, so I am not quite on my own. I am also where someone is giving me reminders as well with the water.

Is anybody taking the time to ferment or pickle foods from the garden or farmer's markets? I hear it is an excellent way to build gut health (which in turn benefits the brain's health...and then again back to the gut!).

I attended a small workshop today at a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farm. The gal teaching is a 20-yr herbalist and grows and processes a great amount of all that her family eats.
...Looks like I have some things to learn!

Onicam, sorry about your leg. I've heard that PT helps, but is a long process.

Carol....That's great news on the cholesterol numbers. I just donated blood and they do contact you with your cholesterol number. Can't wait to see if the fish oil my naturopath has me on has lowered mine too!!! Your Blood sugar number isn't too bad, so I think watching sugars and carbs (your diet) will be all you need to do. Please read about palm sugar as a sweetener for baking. I use it with coconut flour (low carb) to do all my mother's baking.

Several weeks ago, I posted that I was trying to up my intake of Omega 3's (by using Krill Oil--instead of Fish Oil, because it's more concentrated) & by incorporating Chia Seeds into my diet. I knew I had blood work coming up & I was trying to get my numbers (especially triglycerides, which have always been VERY high) under control.

Well, I've had my blood work & my cholesterol numbers were great (even the triglycerides)!! emoticon But get this . . . now my sugar is up (to 121--should be under 100). If it's not one thing, it's another!

So now I guess I may be headed for diabetes! Dr wants to do another blood check in 3 months (this time with A1C test).

I would much rather eat eggs instead of chia sees. I much prefer the foods that I am familiar with that are healthy and that work for me. But, I do agree with what you have to say that I should at least consider them. I have. I have a kitchen filled with things that I have wasted my money on that are really healthy for us but that I have spent time on trying to retrain my taste buds and body to digest them and have come to the conclusion I should just stick with what I know is good and healthy for me personally but thanks anyways.

So, my positive for today is that I really do know what I like and don't like and am up to try new and different things and if they work for me great, and if not I will set them aside.

I like foods that I am familiar with that tantilize my mouth so that my taste buds are happy and so that my body will eat up the nutrient dense values from the foods that I am happy with.

I have found out the certain textures of foods turn me off completely.

Anyways, today is a new day to prosper in.

Chia seeds have no taste at all... though they do have a texture which is what may make you not like them.
You can incorporate Chia seeds into absolutely anything you eat. a casserole, a smoothie, a salad, your morning yogurt. You can even create a dessert out of chia seeds (to me this dessert resembles tapioca). They are the new super food and you are remiss if you don't at least consider looking into chia seeds.
They are an egg substitute for those who are vegan.
Even you have a difficult time with the texture, you are wise to reconsider them. I could put at least 10 different sites with 10 different opinions about chia seeds. as with everything about the changes in what you eat.... it is all about you.

Central California was perfect. Maybe a week a year you felt like you needed air conditioning, and you hardly needed heat either. Oh well, we are where we are, so we'll just have to concentrate, as you and I do, on the positives all around us.

That's how much my electric bill used to be in the summer here in Chicago, but now I have a new supplier and my bill is cut in half or pretty close to half.

I am thankful for air conditioning but would rather have fresh air but cool or kind of warm balmy breezes LOL.

I am astounded at that kind of heat. I live in Chicago and very seldom do we get any where near those temps.

I am so glad I don't have to use the air as long as you do. The cost must be outrageous. emoticon

I hear ya on air conditioning. We've been using for several months now. It has already been 119o. I hate the expense for sooo many months. We quit using sometime at the end of October. In case you are wondering where I live, it's Arizona. Lake Havasu. We have the highest heat record for an inhabited city in the U.S, 128o. Wish I could move.

Time for air conditioning once again. I do not like air conditioning but it sure is better then roasting in the hot and humid summer air. LOL. I like my windows open with fresh air.

I had another slip this evening. I have also been helping my mom with her classroom. Everything is now out of her old room except her desk which someone else will be moving. We did empty a few boxes, ate out, went shopping, and just came home.

I have experimented a few different ways with chia and there is not one thing about them that catches my fancy, but to each his own.

I don't like barley grass neither, I don't like brewers yeast neither, I don't like many things that are supposed to be healthy and if I don't like them after eating them for about a month each to see if I can retrain my taste buds then I let them go. I have drawers full of healthy things that I have wasted my money on and so far can't find anyone to give them to and after awhile just toss them out because they can't be all that good when too old.

So now I eat what I consider normal tried and true healthy food for me.

I use chias in all my smoothies. If you don't want any seed feel to the smoothie you can mix a tbls of the chias with water and let set. It turns to pudding like consistency then add that to the smoothie. This trick can be used to add them to other things too. Just got done being told about using them as an egg replacement in recipes, but not sure of the seed to water ratio yet.

Does anyone use chia seeds in their daily diet? Wondering how to incorporate them . . .

I've heard they're full of Omega 3's & I'm still looking for ways to boost my cholesterol the natural way & get off so many prescription meds. Any suggestions? Thanks!
