Hi there! I get over 20,000 steps in most days. It's mainly due to being a college student and walking to/from classes, etc. But I also get in about 60-90 minutes of cardio daily, which really ups my steps. I find just focusing on walking to/from places when it's feasible is best. If I'm desperate for my steps, I'll walk in place during TV commercials, but I'm usually over 20,000 just by walking and exercising.

Thanks, TIMOTHYNOHE. I actually already know Spanish thanks to my parents.
I'm currently taking a break from studying Japanese and am now studying Korean. I discovered Korean dramas on Crunchyroll.com (free) and DramaFever.com which have helped me immensely with pronunciation. I'm liking more and more the idea of buying a treadmill or elliptical machine and placing it in front of the TV to watch some of the dramas which I've neglected for the past month.

Thanks for the Coffee Break resource, though. Learning French sounds like fun!

Welcome. If you arfe learning Spanish or French, you might like to try Coffee Break from Radio Lingua. Put it on your MP3 player and go for a walk.

You guys are seriously awesome! Thanks for all the great tips and the warm welcome. I really like the walking in place while watching TV idea. Now I can watch my foreign soaps without feeling too guilty. Thanks all! emoticon

Welcome!

I sometimes use the laptop while walking on the treadmill. I have a "desk" I can set on the treadmill rails and set the laptop on it. I don't walk very fast but I can increase the incline and time goes by pretty fast.

Welcome. Remember to be the best YOU that you can. Don't compare yourself to everyone else. LIke the people that work at the Haunted Mansion at WDW, they spend their shift walking backwards on a treadmill. I walk while I read my iPod, have a path around my fireplace and dining table and just need to look up once in a while. Best of luck to you, pam

Welcome to our team!

My guilty pleasure is watching TV...but I want to get my steps in so I walk in place while watching it. Also, I walk on breaks and at the end of my lunch break. I am certain our members will be more than happy to share their secrets on getting those extra steps!

emoticon a lot of people go hiking, work in jobs where you walk a lot, like in warehouses and for some it is worn during workouts at the gym which increases their steps, like doing zumba

Everybody tells me that they would love to knit, but they don't have time. I look at people's lives and I can see opportunity and time for knitting all over the place. Welcome to the team! Unfortunately, I can’t answer your question about the 20k+ steps. I have never been able to get that many. I set my goal lower than the 10k so that it seemed achievable. I have been able to hit that goal consistently and now can raise it. Sometimes, it takes 'baby steps' to get there, lol.

Hey everyone,

I'm new to this team and just got my fitbit end of last week. I love all the little phrases of encouragement it gives me.

If I may ask, how are some of you getting 20,000-24,000 steps a day?
I'm struggling just to make it to 10,000 a day. I've only gotten there once, and yesterday I was about 400 steps away from that mark.

I park my car in the farthest parking spot from my office, I get up a few times from my desk during the day (but can't do that continuously as I will never get any work done that way) and when I get home around 5pm I go for a walk with each of my dogs separately (two walks). I then do my 30min to 60min workout. By the time I am finished with all that and take a shower and eat dinner, it's sometime between 7:00pm and 8:00pm. Unfortunately, I sometimes have to work the weekends too. I think work gets in the way for me, but there's nothing to do about it.

I'm currently trying to learn a new language which takes daily practice and I haven't even been able to fit that into my schedule anymore like I used to because I'm making fitness take priority (as it should). I'm happy to see the weight slowly coming off me, but I'm also sad I can't do the things I enjoy like learning new languages and watching my foreign soap operas.
