Wow...It's really hard to sit down and watch my TV program with all that grey 'Sedentary' time on my Time Active pie chart! But I still want to watch my show SO I am going to exercise while I watch! Thank you FitBit! :)

Rocman, I liked your explanation of snapshot. I could grasp that concept. I appreciate all this feedback.

@Yiddle

One thing I noticed that on Sparkpeople, it only counts the really active minutes. Which is kind of disappointing.

I do a structured 4 miles walk which is 12,000 steps more or less. 126 minutes. After that, the steps do record but the minutes stay the same.

I wear my FitBit 24/7. I let my FB record all my physical movements and sleep.
The only activity I record is weight lifting as I'm generally not moving then.

I step in place while folding clothes, washing dishes. Instead of watching TV on my butt, I'm stepping or running in place. My family thinks I'm nuts!!

WOW! I really regret that workout

I don't add any of my walks to it either as I use I purely for steps and sleep tracking. My garmin is where I track my cardio.

The only time I add anything is when I do weight training twice a week. Otherwise, like others have said, I just let it do its thing in the background.

@ BEBELOUIDAHO:

What do you mean by activity mode? Are you talking about creating a RECORDING?
You can create a RECORDING at any time of the day. A RECORDING is merely a "snapshot" of certain time period during the day. It does not add anything to your daily totals. It only provides you with a snapshot of an activity or time period. Honestly, just wear your FB all day. It will know when you are active or not and you will see that data in the pie chart on your DASHBOARD in the TIME ACTIVE section.

I don't set mine to anything either ..... just let it keep track ... when I do sitting exercise videos from Spark I add it to my tracker .... doesn't interfere with my steps at all.

I don't "set" my Fitbit to do anything. As I walk around the house cleaning, doing laundry, fixing dinner, etc., it counts my steps. I do walk daily in a concentrated effort either inside the nearby mall, or out on the hike and bike trails near my house. My sewing/quilting room is upstairs so while I am up and down the stairs, it records "floors" for me.

I never feed it any extra activities. When it was new, I tried adding household chores, but it subtracted my steps when I did that, so I decided to just go with the step count for "exercise." That works for me.

I can normally get over 10,000 steps each day. I push to get at least 10 floors daily. I am thrilled each time I can rack up 5 miles. Usually I can hit the five mile mark about four times a week.

It is a marvelous incentive for me to keep moving. Best wishes .

well ,mine seems to work all on its own, hehe
It will count calories whatver i do,we do burn calories even sitting still.
it also counts all the steps and seems to be fairly accurate now, since i adjusted and measured my steps and running steps.
If i go on the elliptical at high resistance and incline then the calories burned are off
due to a slower pace,i guess.

at times when I am not walking, like doing laundry, knitting, cooking and it is for long periods of time, I will go into my FB page and add that activity in only for the calories being burned by the actitivty

Everybody tells me that they would love to knit, but they don't have time. I look at people's lives and I can see opportunity and time for knitting all over the place. The time spent riding the bus each day? That's a pair of socks over a month. Waiting in line? Mittens. Watching TV? Buckets of wasted time that could be an exquisite lace shawl. ~Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, At Knit's End: Meditations for Women Who Knit Too Much

Do you always need to have it in activity mode to record something? And like when I do laundry it is sproadic throughout the day, but can I record it as a block of time all at once?
when you just sit for a while does it record anything if there are no steps? I want to do it just right and am not sure what that needs to look like. Thanks everyone for what you are going to tell me......
