Hi
I am new to Fitbit Flex 2 but have used Spark Activity Tracker for years. I am looking forward to getting back into a walking routine and having the Fitbit update to Spark People. I sort of lost my momentum when my SAT quit syncing. I need to be fit to keep up with my 5 grandchildren when we are camping.

Hello,

Just joined. I've been a fitbiter for 2 years, I think. Lost track. What's important is it's become a part of my every day life. If I don't have it on, I feel like I'm missing something. Right now my average runs between 15 and 20k. I'm 63, working hard to get under 200lbs. Hoping to do that by Spring, or soon after. I've come down from over 250, so, feeling pretty good about that. I'm getting married later this summer so I have plenty of inspiration. Hope to make some mutually supportive friends who use FitBit.

Hi Raul---thanks for the welcome email and invite to introduce myself here!

I too had a Spark tracker and have switched over to the FitBit Flex 2. Hope it works out as well as my SPAT. I like it so far.

Nice to see such an active team here! I'm in my mid-50's and was finally able to get fit and healthy here with SparkPeople. I'm married with 2 grown kids and work full-time. I have a dog who is my walking partner and is great encouragement to get my steps in. Looking forward to meeting some new members!

I had been using the sparkpeople tracker but it has been cancelled. So I bought a fitbit. Today was my first day using it. A bit confusing since no written instructions with it--until I went to their website. I am retired for the second, perhaps final time. I first did it at age 50 when my husband passed. Got bored and went back until age 62. Now I am 66 and I think I got it right this time.

Hello! I'm new to Fitbit - just got my Fitbit Zip today - but I've been a Sparker for 3 years now. Hated to have to change from my SPAT, but it is what it is!

Hi my name is Dorothy Stacy. I'm from central New York. I am the mother of 8, grandmother of 22 and an author. I have the FitBit Zip. So far it seems real good. I think it is very motivating to see the number of steps go up on the tracker as I am doing my walking.

I had a little trouble connecting and getting it to sync. First the battery was not seated correctly. (I had to talk to someone at FitBit.) I got that fixed and then when I connected it to Spark today, it wasn't syncing at first for a long time. But Now it has all synced and is working great. Phew!!!

Hi! My name is Stacey. I've been on Spark since 2008 and am back at it to loose the 15 I've gained back. I just got my fitbit yesterday, so excited! I tried the Samsung watch and didn't like it at all, so far the fitbit seems AWESOME! I love that it syncs with Spark too and I can see everything in one place :) Looking forward to my first workout with it!

Hi my name is Melanie. I'm the mother of a 19 year old daughter and a 30 year old stepson. I work in a high school special education classroom where the children have various disabilities. Spark people has taught me that changing your lifestyle helps keep the weight off instead of just dieting. I've been trying by myself for years with no progress to show for it. Started Sparkpeople in 2011 and left for several years as my life was a mess. Now I'm back and ready to do this.

Hi! I am Brenda and just got my Fitbit Zip synched.

I had a Spat but as most Spat owners know, it will no longer be "active".

I am very excited to have found a tracker that I can wear on my shoe, which is where I have worn my Spat.

It will be exciting to see how this will help me stay motivated.

Hi I'm Colleen - just got my FitBit Charge 2 with points from my airline miles (free is always good). I really like having it - keeps me accountable for steps and moving and water and even helps me relax to sleep!

Looking forward to seeing how everyone else uses their Fitbits!

emoticon Hello from sunny Las Cruces, NM!

I just got my lime-green Fitbit Zip yesterday afternoon and got added to this team as soon as it linked to my Sparkpeople. I am anxious to see how it stacks up to the Spark Tracker I have been using since they came out. I was sorry to see them go, actually. I am currently wearing both to compare.

I am pretty sedentary most of the time, being a bookkeeper that is practically chained to my computer most of the day. I am trying to make myself get up and move more, though, as well as eating better. I have over 120 lbs I wish to get rid of.

I will be lurking around off and on as time allows. This is busy season for me, after all.

I just got my Fitbit ONE last night and am so excited about it! I am one of the SAT users who has been forced to buy a new activity tracker and am I GLAD!

I have wanted a tracker that shows the numbers instead of the lights so that I could check my steps without having to come to the computer. I love that I can slip it into my pocket (and out when I want to check my progress) and (when I don't have pockets) that it works clipped to my bra with the device next to my skin so that IF it should fall, it will fall into my bra and not be lost. I did not want one that has to be worn on the wrist. As a matter of fact, I returned a Charge 2 because I realized it was measuring my arm movements, not my steps. I am completely happy with the ONE.

I am still learning things about it and, although it was easy to connect to SP, am eager to learn why it is not syncing ALL my workouts and steps. But, that's for another thread.

Thanks for the welcome! I'm happy to be here!

To sync your fitbit with SP go to the bottom of the fitness tracking page and at the bottom of the page there is a connect devices choice. Click on that and you should be able to sync them.

Hi and welcome back to SP. I understand the spouse issues. My husband is a full blooded Cajun and believe me when I say his idea of eating vegetables is onions and garlic added to his food.

I have become mostly vegetarian in the last few months and he is very supportive as long as I don't make him eat my healthy plate of food. So we cook separately but eat together most of the time. I'm not sure if you are in a position to do that in your home, but it really works great in mine.

Feel free to add me on SP and Fitbit. http://www.fitbit.com/user/5D9SPV

i have been on SP and Off again several times and everytime I leave SP and go to some other plan I find myself thinking of SP and how things are different and eventually I end up right back on SP. having to re loose the weight I lost on SP and regained from quitting the other DIET plans I left SP for.

I am a 53 year old woman, Very miserable with myself and my weight. I hate being this big and it seems like now I just cant get the weight to budge. I am an LPN , I work night shift. so my wake sleep system is all screwed up .

Any way , I am a wife to a man who knows no boundaries with food. He is diabetic , high blood pressure, coronary artery disease and he just eats what ever he wants. He is always bringing home , cookies, cakes, pies, brownies , some kind of pastry every time he goes to the store. and there are not a lot of vegies he likes. So cooking for the 2 of us is really difficult if I am trying to stick to my life style change. I can use all the help and support I can get cause I don't get any here at home.

I've been active w/ SP for 7-8 yrs & love it. I've used a Polar heart rate monitor & Sparkpeople's S.A.T. (I wore it out). Just bought a Fitbit Charge 2 and am trying to adapt to it. It synced one day, but never again. It tracked my 12,000 steps yesterday but didn't sync with SP.

I really need the "rewards" and feeling of accomplishment in reaching goals, so I need to learn how to work this device.

I would appreciate very much some help from a Charge 2 user as soon as possible. I have a big goal & need Fitbit's help in reaching it. Thanks very much!

Hello, I am excited about my Fitbit Charger 2. I love it and it does help me set up and Move. I love the notifications. I have a question, how do you get your stats to show up on Sparkpeople. I turned it off and now I can set it back. Any help would be nice. Enjoy your day, everyone.

just joined this team have owned a fitbit for almost three years. My beloved zip took a swim in a public bathroom so bought a fitbit One a few days ago. But really wanted the Charge 2 HR! Am going to look at them, again today and maybe exchange. Nothing wrong with the One, but having the same issues misplacing it as my zip. It is so motivating to track steps, but would like to be able to track other sports like biking and cross country skiing.

Have been a member of sparkpeople for several years, and over the last 2 years have lost 90 pounds after getting serious and finally making a commitment to be healthy. Am looking forward to being part of this group,

Karen

Hi, I just received my fitbit flex 2. I am still trying to figure out how it works. Tracked my sleep and counted my steps. Trying to figure out how to use it for my exercise classes (yoga, swim exercise, and intermediate exercise class). Does it just do swim laps and walking? Any help is appreciated.
Thank you,
Karen

Recently got a new fitbit -- a Flex2 -- my original Flex finally just died. I like the Flex2 - and am working on getting more active after 2 knee surgeries that have not gone as well as I anticipated. Doing some walking, but right now, more stationary bicycle and elliptical bicycle with strength training at the gym --- manually entering my activity on the fitbit though.

I bought a zip fitbit, last Sat I put it in my pocket and went to Zumba for a half hour then to work and walked my butt off, came home & tried to sync it to no avail, couldn't really fool around with it, I had to go to a parry, when I got home from Church on Sunday, tried again to sync it, it said I was connected, still couldn't sync it, finally I found an 877 # & called to talk to a support person, after about a half hour he had me connected and hooked up to the Sparkpeople account. I asked the Support guy, why don't they put some kind of instructions in with the fitbit??He just chuckled & said "this way you get to talk to us"......but now I feel like I'm connected and doing better with it in my pocket. Thanks for letting me drone on- I need this to keep me accountable for myself

I use a Fitbit Surge 24/7 except when I'm in the pool. Then I use my Fitbit One safely zipped inside several bags under my swim cap.

I love all the features of the Surge but miss the messages I get on my One. LOL

Franchesca,

You are such a dear. I know which one I want to use to track ... the Spark Activity Tracker. For me, it supports me best. Unfortunately, what one wants and what's available don't jibe. The company that made the Spark Activity Tracker has gone out of business. So, in a few weeks the tens of thousands of Spark users that were using them are scrambling to find alternatives.

I've chosen the fitbit flex 2 as the alternative. I already have a Garmin Forerunner 620 that I use for walk/hike/run workouts and I trust the calorie burn data coming from it when I have the heart rate monitor in use.

I find the sleep information available with the fitbit flex 2 to be interesting. I would also like to eventually try it in the pool. It will track swimming. So, that appealed to me as well. I'll adjust.

Again, thank you, for the suggestion. Your consideration is appreciated. emoticon

Hello All,

I am new to the team and admit that I am here reluctantly. I am a former Spark Activity Tracker user and these trackers will become obsolete in a matter of weeks.

I have purchased a fitbit flex 2 and have noticed the calorie burn data (for fitness activity) is grossly overestimated ... for me. I realize that the fitbit includes BMR in its daily calorie burn data. That's not what I am referencing here. I'm talking about what I burn with exercise. The fitbit significantly overestimates that calorie burn for me even after removing BMR from those estimates.

So, that is a bummer for me because I'm a data person and have used that calorie burn data to both successfully lose and maintain weight.

I am, however, an ol' gal willing to learn new tricks. So, here I am. emoticon

Hi All,

New to the team. I've been a FitBit user since getting my first FitBit pedometer about 5 years ago and have steadily moved up to the Charge HR. I'd like to get the Charge HR2 for the ability to remind me to get up and move when I sit too long, but I'll wait until my Charge HR has gone it's last mile.

I decided a while ago not to sync my tracker to Sparks and after reading some of the challenges others have had, I think I made the right decision!!

Good luck to all as we walk our way to fitness!

Hi All, I am new to this team. I got my fitbit at Christmas and loving it. How it track the steps, activities, and my sleep. I sync'd to SP to see the difference between SP and the fitbit tracking. I am not much for the networking/social, so if I am quite that is why. Not much to say, or not sure how to express myself.

I am 61, in the medical field. I have been a yoyo dieter and now just want to be healthy and have more energy.

So I am new to this team today.
I am new to fitbit as of 8 days ago.
I am loving my tracker.
I got mine to sync if you get to the page in spark people that shows fitbit results you can request to link your fitbit to your sparkpeople acct. You will need to enter your fitbit acct. log in and password.
Than you ask it to sync. It will sync with your account a few minutes (up to 20 after you make the request) I figured out I don't need to sit and watch it or anything it just does it weather I am there or not so I plan to just ask it to sync before I go to bed each night and let it do it's thing.

I am 55, a part time reference librarian and otherwise homemaker and volunteer.

Hi everybody!
Allow me to introduce myself. I am Beth from NJ.
I've had a Fit Bit since 2015 and have to say that it's really helping me to "kick it up a notch!"
My goals are modified slightly due to my physical disability, but I still walk about 30 minutes most days.
My "partner in crime" is my 6 year old mobility assistance dog, Somerset (called "Somer" for short.)
Looking forward to getting to know you!

hello team! happy to be part of FITBIT and SP united!
i live in Northeast - i have a small hobby farm and have horses. so keeping fit to ride is very important to me.
my day job is highly stressful and keeps me tethered to my desk for 10-12 hours a day.
my FB reminds me how little i am moving and keeps me motivated to do more
on the weekends I average 10,000 steps but would love to seem some balance during the work week
synching my fitbit to SP saves me time in keeping track of exercise and calories
I love the SP and food tracking tool - keeps me honest in what i am putting in my body

i just want to get to a healthy weight and stay competitive in my riding and stay YOUNG in body and spirit - carrying around an extra 15-20 lbs is putting a damper on it
hope to talk more to you all
Have a blessed day!

Hi. I'm Patty. This is my second go-round on SparkPeople. I mainly joined because I can put my recipes in here and find out how many calories they have per serving.

Then I seen that I can sync my Fitbit so thought...might as well do that too. I will probably still use it more because it is also synced with the health initiative my job has.

I've had a Fitbit for I think 2 years, maybe 3 now.

Hello,

New to SparkPeople here. Using Fitbit tracker to sync at the moment. In terms of fitness goals, just want to maintain my 3 days per week at the gym + walking the other days. Am looking to maintain my weight, or to gain / tone muscle.

I'm Elizabeth and I've been wearing a Spark Activity Tracker since 10/2/2013. I love, Love, LOVE it but, as mentioned earlier by others, the manufacturer is is ceasing to be in business and will soon no longer support us with our daily stats.

I now have a Fitbit One which seems to track steps pretty closely. Is there, by chance, any sub-threads for the individual trackers where we can learn the idiosyncrasies of our chosen tracker? I have yet to figure out how to tell the One that I've been for a walk without it adding in thousands of additional steps! emoticon The step count, without a specified activity, closely matches my Spark tracker.

Advice emoticon

Melody from San Diego. I lost 100 lbs last year and have 50 more to go. I was sick over the holiday and mostly spent the last 3 weeks in bed when I wasn't working. Anxious to get back on track. Met my new step goal today of 8000 steps so feeling energized and ready to make this happen!

I have vowed not to be overweight for my 52nd birthday in June!

Hi,
I'm from the Antioch Illinois area. Stone's throw away from Wisconsin. :) I'm hoping to get some motivation. I would like to lose 50 lbs. My workout buddy neighbor moved away in August. We used to walk 3 miles together every morning at 5 a.m. before work. I lost 15 lbs., but gained it back again and then some. Once the weather breaks, I would like to start that again. I'm going to get an indoor elliptical machine as I don't have a gym membership anymore I like to join FitBit challenges with my coworkers and friends. It helps to keep me motivated.

Hi all, northern Virginia here. Looking for fit bit friends to help keep me accountable. Starting with the small goal of 5k a day. I have an office job and almost 90% desk work so I try to get up and get moving whenever I can. I started this week with a recumbent bike as well to help increase mobility... I hate sedentary life but work makes it hard. I just got a stand up desk so at least I'm not sitting all day.

Look forward to being part of the group.

Hi! I have had my fitbit charge 2 for a week now. Still learning all the things it can do.

Every journey begins with a step.

Hello! I'm about a week into (this round) of using sparkpeople and a brand new user of the Fitbit. I'm still learning how to use the Fitbit but already I love it. I look forward to being a big loser with all the help and support here.
