Hi, I'm JJ. I'm 56 years old, married to my college sweetie for almost 35 years, we have 4 wonderful adult children (2 daughters & 2 sons), a wonderful son-in-law and 6 beautiful granddaughters. My exercise of choice is walking on my treadmill. My long term goal is to lose 45 lbs by my 60th birthday in 3 1/2 years. Short term goal...to tone up and lose as much as I can by my son's wedding next year.
I'm looking forward to being part of the Team!

Hi, I'm Vicki. I'm 56 years old and I have 61 lbs to reach a weight where I can get off of blood pressure pills, and hopefully have more energy.
I've been a member of sparkpeople a number of times over the last few years and always let my emotions get the best of me and I'd leave for one reason or the other. But I'm here to stay this time around and noone will make me leave because of something they say to me to hurt my feelings. I have to learn to ignore such talk and work towards a healthier me.
I look forward to getting to know you.

Hi, I'm Renee. Married mother of 2 college students. We just moved to Maryland and I had to put my treadmill into storage so I am back to walking outside or going over to the community center fitness room.

Hi Everyone...I finally found you!!!!

My name is Elaine and I was born & brought up in Boston, Ma. Lived in Malden for 38 married years and then moved around a couple of times, until I moved to Boynton Beach, Florida almost 3 years ago. I've been widowed twice and THAT'S ENOUGH!!!

So now, at age 78, I'm living the "single" life, whatever that is and making an attempt to loose all that weight I need to drop so that I can enjoy the rest of my days happily and actively.

I am fairly sedentary and that's a huge problem...can't seem to get myself motivated and even when I walk I lose my breath...so, I guess I need to start slowly. My biggest exercise now is going to the supermarket. I manage that fine...but then, I need to bring everything in. Takes a while, but I carefully get it done. I don't like this life!! I want to be able to walk and talk at the same time.

HELP!!!! emoticon

LIVE FOR EACH MOMENT...
TODAY well lived makes every YESTERDAY a memory of happiness and every TOMORROW a vision of hope!!

ELAINE...
(Originally of Boston, MA now living in Boynton Beach, FL)

I'm working towards making the healthiest choices I can when it comes to taking care of myself. I've put away the scale and will no longer weigh myself except when at the doctors office. I don't want to define who I am ever again by a number on the scale. I've done that for way too many years.
I do want to make exercise a top priority as I have a couple of health issues that exercise would improve. Also it would definately give me more energy.
I'll basically be doing a low fat plan because I feel it's the healthiest way to eat. I want to incorporate a lot more veggies and fruits into my food plan and a lot less red meats and oils as they don't agree with me very much. I don't consider this a diet since this will be the way I eat from now on.

Hi,
I'm Brenda, age 53, single and living in the Colorado Springs area. I am in the field of Education and work in our local public schools here.

I used to be a hiker - I love to walk! But I had a recent stressful period in my life, and I fell out of hiking and exercise and gained weight.

So, the stress eased up and I am doing just fine now. I decided its time to "get walking" once again. I love to walk as my main form of exercise - because after all - you can do it anywhere! emoticon

Hi, I'm Vicki. I live in Titusville, Fl. I'm 55 years old and 70 lbs over weight. I've been trying for over a year to get my weight down and all I've done is yo-yo back and forth. I did lose 12.2 lbs in 2011. I've started a low carb plan like I did back in the 80's ( I lost 105 lbs in 13 months and kept it off for 18 years), and I'm hoping to get the weight back off over the course of the next 2 years. I'm not nearly as active as I used to be so I know the weight won't come off as fast as it did back then. Plus I've gone into full menopause so my body tends to have a mind of it's own. I lose motivation easily so I'm hoping the team will help keep me motivated to stay on track. Thanks for having me.

Hi, my name is Sheila, and I've been lurking in the crowd for a few months, just watching what's going on around Spark People. My husband and I finally decided to try living a healthier lifestyle, and have been walking and trying to watch our diet. I live in New Braunfels, TX, have been married 26 years and have 4 amazing kids that I am very proud of. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and sharing this journey with you. Thanks!

Sheila :)

Every little bit helps!

Somehow I "lost" this thread and have missed out on some new members. Welcome to the team. Now that spring (hopefully) has come, we can all start to really enjoy walking outside again.

Hello! Found this team through PINKHOPE. I lost 65 pounds about 5 years ago walking, so I am very familiar with its benefits. I walked and walked and walked and walked my way into a great weight loss. Since then, and after meeting my fiance, I gained NOT all of it back, but enough to where I need to get to walking again! I am doing all sorts of other exercise, BUT WALKING IS ALWAYS THE BEST.... emoticon

Hi! I just found this team and I see my friend Millisma also belongs. Walking has been my main form and choice of exercise for 15 years. It's tough to get outside and walk in the winter because I live in Upstate New York, but I've got my treadmill and I use Leslie Sanson's DVDs so there are ways. I'm also a member of the The Slowest Loser team because I am losing weight very very slowly, but it is coming off. I'm looking to lose another 10 pounds and then will evaluate whether I want to continue. I'm not reaching for the ideal insurance-chart weight. I want to be at a weight that suits me and how I feel.

I've been on SparkPeople for 4 months but just found this group - it looks great for me because I do a lot of walking in my daily life, so I've tried to add to that to get 10,000 steps every day. I teach in China, so I don't have a car so buses and walking are my means of transportation.

Thank you Marlene for responding to my post and inviting me into this team. I am somewhat new to SP. I got serious a couple of weeks ago on the SP site after joining in January of this year. I do walk more than any other form of exercise, so this group fits me. I just got done doing a 6 mile hike. I look forward to being a productive member.

Hi I joined this team when I saw Marlene's post to the Shutterbugs team with this team mentioned. See, advertising works! So many walking teams here but why not try this one? I will actually be off Sparks for a week to reset some goals and take a Spark break but will be back in next week. I need more incentive to get out there wslking to lose weight and help reduce the OA pain in my knees and back. See ya all later. Keep on walking!

Hi, I just came back to sparkpeople to find walking addicts.

Let me paste my indroducing post:

"Hi everyone.

My name is Azaleh, I'm 30 and I need to lose some weight from my last pregnancy (about 20 pounds). I started coming to Sparkpeople in March but gave up after 4 weeks (and 3 pounds lost) because of... no time / no motivation / stress at work / stress at home (choose one).
But now that I'm a stay at home mom for the next 5-6 month I decided to use this time to go back to a healthy life style and gain some habits I will keep in the long term.

My weight is the same than in April (when I stopped watching it), so it's a good thing, I need to lose the remaining pounds now.

Because of my previous experiences, I don't want to do a hard diet. My goal is to exercise regularily (not easy when SAHM) and to eat more fruits / vegetables while avoiding crackers / ice cream and stuff like that.
I know I have a really slow metabolism. I mean when I start a diet, even with a lot of efforts, I lose weight very slowly. That's not helping my motivation. So, knowing that, I decided to go slowly, to keep me motivated and to be prepared to a long run... I have 6 months, I hope to lose 12 pounds.

So here is the plan:

I started to walk 40 minutes every day for 2 weeks now and I can already see a great benefit: I stopped my medication for high blood pressure!!! yeah!

I started to cook more but my husband is not a fan of veggies and fruits... I have some work to do there to make veggies yummy for everybody without adding a fatty sauce.

my weight is still the same but I have great hope that it will go down in a few weeks. I'm starting to be exercise addicted :D I feel sooo good after a 40 min power walk (with a lot of hills). My only struggle is to find time everyday (before it's too hot outside). I can't wait to see the fall :)

well... sorry for this novel...
Who is with me on this "no diet but healthy changes + exercise" plan?"

I'm glad to have found walking buddies :)

Good Morning & Happy Day of Independence. I am thinking today more about MY Independence than of my country! I originally joined SP in mid May and then came back June 17th (i consider that my spark date). Anyway, I have been making life changes, diet changes, fitness changes, attitude changes, and just other ME changes. I am feeling much better about my quality of living. My SparkPage says a lot about who I really am (i wont cover that here). My overall goal is to learn to LOVE exercise and eating healthy so that I can make it a permanent part of who I am. The mere fact that I gave up Diet Dr Pepper cold turkey several weeks ago speaks volumes of what I CAN do for myself. In the end I hope to lose 30 pounds and many inches from my FAT Self. I am praying this helps with my self esteem and confidence in many areas of my life. Today, is Sunday, a new week, and somehow it feels like I am more ready to tackle all aspects of this NEW ME that I have been searching for within the last several years. Most of my walking has been done with Leslie Sansone in my basement. Just recently I added Denise Austin's walk and moreso I have been walking outside my home. I hope that I can get MORE outdoor walks to help me with just staying true to my exercise regimen. On top of walking I also play Tennis about twice a/week with my hubby and I try and go to Water Aerobics a couple of times / week as well. I have nothing but time on my hands, and I am always mesmerized at the end of my day - as to how much time I wasted doing everything BUT being healthy! I am hoping for some motivation and inspiration from this group of people. I have joined several Teams but come to find out that there isn't lots of support from team members, and so I dropped quite a few of those teams this past weekend. It is hard for me to be accountable to many teams as well as myself. Hope to see more of you and I will be around, myself! Hugs, Apple

Hello,

I've been with Spark People for over 2 years now as a second time around. I am here to stay this time.
I reached my gaol in December 2008 but put back on some of the weight. I have lost 12 pounds since May 28th and I have 11 pounds more to reach my goal again. I will do it because I am not only determined but because I have the greatest friends here at Spark People.

I am a retired nurse soon to be 58 years young. I have a wonderful husband of almost 33 years and we have 2 daughters and 2 sons along with 4 grandchildren.

I love power walking and usually get a minimum of 5 miles a day. I like to go in the morning alone but after dinner my trusty 4 legged friend Homer goes with me and he tool loves the power walking /running. We are great partners.

I saw this group and thought it would be great to join others who share the same passion as I do.

I am leaving tomorrow for vacation to visit my brother out in British Columbia. I live in Southern Ontario Canada near Niagara Falls. WE are taking our 2 teenage grandchildren with us and I plan on taking them hiking and mountain climbing with me. This is the best place for both. My brother is surrounded by mountains lakes and the Pacific Ocean and it is one of the most prettiest places to be during any season of the year.

I will be taking my laptop with me so I can stay in touch daily with my Spark Friends.

I look forward to getting to know you all. emoticon

I also try to blog on here...if you read it you may think I am some what mental LOL but I just try to be open and honest on here.
I have dieted for so long and I always fail. And really once you reach a point what's the point of dieting then you gain the weight back. So I am doing something radical for me...just changing how I eat. Instead of ground beef I use ground turkey. A couple nights a week we only have a protein and veggies no starchie carbs. I have tried to cut out my diet soda as much as I can....hello iced tea and lemon water.

Funny, I started on Saturday and I still end up looking through this site for a couple of hours everyday. I don't usually reply to much, except the spark challenges or trivia questions. I spend a lot of time on the articles and my fitness and nutrition goals. I've been using the recipes and they have all been easy and yum! Welcome and Good Luck KIM

Hi, everyone. I am new to SparkPeople. The past 2 hours, that's all I've been doing is looking over this site. So far, this site has really some interesting and motivational information. I am a mother of 3, and a grandmother 1. I had just started my diet today, April 21. I am about 70 pounds over weight. I definately need the help. I love to walk. So, maybe that will help.

Hi Team,

My name is Paul and first off I want to thank the team for giving me the welcome mat SparkGoodie. I really appreciate it.

Next I just want to mention that tomorrow marks the anniversary of my second week here on SparkPeople. You can read more about me on my SparkPage and in my blog (I'll be posting my second post later tonight).

I haven't read the info for the group yet however I did want to introduce myself. In the past 49 weeks I've walked 20,000 to 25,000 steps a handful of times. I'm not sure time wise how often I will be able to achieve more than 10 to 12,000 steps a day but today was a state holiday here in Massachusetts so I had the day off. I had a great time and for the first time ever I walked over 30,000 steps (right now 30,637 and around 9:30 p.m.). I psyched.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone better.

I am working on my weight. I have lost and regained the same 20 pounds at least 10 times over the last 30 years. each time I say it is gonna be the LAST time, but here I am saying it again!! I still won't give up. I have to keep trying!!! I too am on blood pressure medication and diabetes medication. I have been since I was 47. I am now 53. part of mine is stress and part is inherited. I would still like to be healthier and see better numbers on the scale. If I can't get out I at least do the WII Fit. Have a great weekend!!!

Hi I am from Australia and currently about 30kg overweight. Also am on blood pressure medication that I want to stop taking. I have been struggling with my weight for over 5 years and am trying to finally put a stop to it. I love to walk and have proven to myself that I gain weight when I don't walk. My morning walk takes me 50 minutes and involves walking around the hills with some ups and downs - not too severe. I like to wear a pedometer but find that sometimes the batteries play up and they don't record the steps correctly. My plan is to keep up with the walking and gradually increase it.

This is it!!

I am Sandra. My workplace recently encouraged us to join Sparkpeople as part of their employee-wellness efforts. I had been here before, but was not seriously committed to the site. Since the beginning of the year, I have lost 15 pounds and want to lose about 20 more. Besides following an exercise program from a book, one of my most favorite forms of exercise is walking. I currently live in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin (a city in Milwaukee County). Currently, I walk inside on the threadmill, but as the weather is getting nicer, I plan to do it more outside. I try to walk at least 2 miles every other day. Marlene150 was one of the first ones to welcome me to the site, so I thought I should check this team out!

Hello,
I'm new to the team - couldn't resist the cute ducks icon. I am just beginning my program, learning to log everything on a regular basis, and developing an exercise habit, with walking for cardio, outside as much as weather permits. I live next to a natural park with paved and unpaved trails, and have marked out a route of two miles. I am starting with that, and finding it is about all I can handle right now. My goal is to do the two miles, give or take a little, five days per week, and mostly I can do it in 35-40 minutes. I will see over time if my endurance increases and if this works for weight loss along with my nutrition management.

Hi Kristine

Nice to see a new member. Have you tried "mapping" your route on the fitness tracker? That will give you number of miles also.

Marlene, do you use a pedometer daily to track miles? If so, do you have one that you like? I've considered getting one.

Do you use a pedometer? You might be surprised to know how many miles we walk a day. Take care, Marlene

Hello. I am a new member to the team. I enjoying walking and have made it a goal to walk at least a mile a day. I have been doing this on my lunch break and work and it feels great to get out and get moving. Also, living outside of town helps because there is not alot of traffic out on our roads. My name is Kristine. I am a mom of 3 children and I work full time. Since joining Spark People, I have found it easier to get into the workouts and really watch what I am eating. I love this site.

Hi Clara,

First I'd like to say welcome and I love your avatar - reminds me of the Wii characters.

As far as the mileage goes, you just need to add your miles and minutes into the area for mileage. It will automatically add to the cardio.

Hello, everyone.

I'm a 42-year-old married mom, embracing my forties and motivated to making this the best decade of my life (until I enter my fabulous fifties, that is!). emoticon

I just joined SP last week, and am still exploring and familiarizing myself. I love the site, but admit to feeling a bit disoriented as I try to learn the ropes. Do I enter my walking and rebounding totals in both the mileage and cardio trackers, or does doing so count the same exercise twice? (I only want credit for what I've legitimately earned.) Why do some team goals post/update automatically, while others don't? Why do some streaks not reflect the correct number of days? I'm hoping to find answers to these questions as I settle in at SP.

I am happy to be here, and wish everyone success in their fitness goals. emoticon

Hello I live in Massachusetts so it is Mall Walking in the winter. Spring is just about here so I can get outside some days. I've had 4 strokes at age 49 that were caused by medication. I went from health active to disable fast. I can walk about a mile but slowly. I look forward to meeting like minded people here for motivation.

Welcome!! I've been a member for a few weeks.

I'm Ruth, 55 years old and was slim, with only a little pooch in the tummy til I hit 53. I kept putting on weight, taking it off, back on etc. THEN my granddaughter told me I would be a g-g-ma before I turned 55! Yikes!!!! Then to be healthy for g-g-daughter, I quit a 35-40 year cigarette habit. I never knew or forgot that food could taste so good. I have only gained about 20 pounds BUT... I am still gaining. Yes I need to redo my profile.
Anyway, this is the place for us to get and stay encouraged to loose weight - no matter how much or little.

Hello everyone. My name is Kim. I joined this great site recently. My goal is to lose the weight I gained after I quit smoking and continue to keep it off. I think I am in the right place! My goal is to start walking for 30 minutes, 4-5 times a week then eventually walk daily. I am currently sick with a cold so I will have to wait a few more days to get started.

I look forward to getting to know everyone.
