Actually, it was only a 1/2 marathon. My brother does marathons, iron man... scary stuff. There is no way I'd do a marathon. I just don't like running that much. I don't think I'm built for it. The triathlon is a lot more fun. I am celebrating today - I lost my first pound in about a month! Ahh. Now the trick is to NOT celebrate with food. Right now, I think a nap would be a good celebration emoticon

I hope your day is going well.

Whoah Darcious, a marathon is way out of my league. That is amazing! And now a triathlon! That's all we can do is keep trying and keep encouraging ourselves to be active, right?! Thanks for your quick reply!

Wow, that is frustrating to work out so hard and not see results. A friend and I decided a few years ago that we needed a goal to get ourselves motivate dto exercise and therefore to lose weight. We trained for and did a 1/2 marathon. 7 months of training and neither of us lost a single pound! So I gave up for a few months and have been sporatic since then. We decided last January to train to do a triathlon (it's on 9/8), and I've had the same results - athletic improvement (slight, since I'm not consistant) but no weight lost. Argh. I am hoping the new book will help me. I am really bad about planning my eating, and I think that's my problem. I've lost 2 pounds so far since I began reading the book, but know that I will need ongoing encouragement to get me past the "honeymoon" period.

Have a nice day - and give yourself kudos for all the diet/exercise things you've done RIGHT today!

Thanks Darcious for all your support. I don't know how moms who work full-time do it all - I work part-time and find it near impossible to get exercise in. I will definitely look up that book. I need all the encouragement I can get and will pass the info. onto friends! What's so sad about my June 26th post (144 pounds, 130 pound goal) is that it was in 2006. I didn't realize that when I wrote that "venting" message. In fact, I want all of you to know that I exercised more last year, than my entire life combined and there was no change in my weight. It's hard to keep positive, when you don't receive any reward for your efforts!

I hear you Julie! I am in the same boat - bouncing back and forth between 135 and 139. I actually have more free time in the summer because I have a nanny to watch my son and cart him around to activities while I am at work - and I built in a little time after I get off work so I can go work out if I didn't make it in the morning. I'll have to work harder at it during the school year.

I found a book (about a week ago) called The Beck Solution, and think it will really be helpful for me. It's not a diet, but "Cognitive Therapy". I generally need reminders to encourage myself and not get down. This plan helps you build it into your day. Granted, I'm only one week into a four week plan, it's easy and helpful so far.

Good luck once school starts!

Okay, I'm going to be a bit negative here, just to vent. I noticed my last post was June 26th. Guess what? It's almost 2 months later and I'm still 144 pounds!!! I guess I should be happy that I haven't gained any weight. Also, I should add that exercising has been impossible this summer with both kids at home and my husband out of town for work constantly. On the flip side, I have taken a rock climbing class, but it's soon ending. Looking forward to the school year starting and having 5 mornings a week to myself. Hopefully, I'll have something positive to say, once I get to go exercise again!

try this one, cut back on breads, cereals, pastas, potatoes, peas, carrots, to only one serving a day total for a week and see what happens. You need to pick up on your greens to make up for the lack of fiber!

No, I haven't used the healthy lifestyle scale. What is it? I have however, started tracking my calories again. That really seems to help because it keeps me from getting that snack at 9 p.m.
Thank you for all the encouragement!

sometimes that is a good idea.... have you been using the healthy lifestyle scale here on Sparks? That is one of the things I use to tell myself that I am doing great! It helps when the scales don't move... so doesn't a new pair of shoes, or a new book, any reward for staying the course when the scales are stuck.

Thanks so much for the encouragement. I will keep going, though I really jumped ship last night when I took one of those 100 calorie pretzel bags, and dipped them into 2 tbsp of peanut butter and chocolate chips. I think I'm going to put the scale away this week, because seeing no progress or gaining really discourages me. Thanks again!

some times it is too much exercise or too few calories... I hit a plateau in november of 141, 11 weeks later I made it down to 140... then dropped quite regularly to 135, have now been at 135 for 8 weeks... just keep on keeping on, it will happen, NEVER give up!

Hey all,
Been doing 40 minutes of cardio and 2 days of weight training pretty consistently the past 10 months. Don't eat junk food, not a snacker. Lowest I've gotten down to is 140. After my vacation, went up to 145 again. Seems that even with consistent exercise and a healthy diet, I can't lose the weight. What should I do? About to throw in the towel and just eat whatever and quit excercising....
