Just wanted to post that I LOVE SparkPeople! I joined on August 28. I was working on losing weight on Weight Watchers, and had about ten pounds to go, and I had also just started running with the Couch to 5K program. Since then, I have reached my Weight Watchers goal and earned lifetime membership. Also, I graduated from Couch to 5K, have participated in two 5K races, and have plans for a 10K, more 5Ks, and my very first half marathon in the new year. I have accomplished SO much more than I ever imagined I would, and in just three short months, and I owe so much of my success to the amazing support I have gotten from my Spark buddies. Congrats to all of you on your successes so far, and may you enjoy MANY more! Spark on!!

wow you have all done so brilliantly!!!
I started in August and have not done so well partly due to not enough effort and some bad choices( red wine).. Loss so far about 4 pounds... IT is a start and thanks to motivation of some great people on here I am stepping it up a notch, exercising harder, drinking more water and going to make huge effort to cut right down on wine with evening meal. I love this site and plan to be here to my goals and past!!!
well done everyone.. it makes me more motivated to hear about everyone elses huge efforts

I've been at this for about 2 months now, and this site has been a big help in staying motivated, giving me workout ideas, and helping me to track what I'm eating.
At this point, I'm down 35lbs, which is just 5lbs from the halfway point to my first goal. I'm so pleased with myself, and am looking forward to the journey ahead of me to lose the rest of the weight I need to lose.
I'm already feeling better in day to day life. I actively compete in agility with my Shelties, and am able to run faster, and longer without wearing out on them. We've even been winning our fair share of the classes we enter. I have to think that's a combination of the shelties and I going walking every morning, and me having lost so much weight and being in better shape, which is allowing me to move faster. Things like that are a daily reminder of the rewards that come from the hard work.

Starting weight- 260. Down 70lbs so far!

Ravenstar - how awsome. I hope you can keep off cigarettes. I am a medical transcriptionist and type for a thoracic surgeon ... oh, the sad things i hear and must type. i actually cry while typing sometimes. the good news is in the history of this docs career, he only lost one patient - this one could not give up the habit and continued to smoke even while undergoing treatment.

Yahoooooo ... Good for You!!!

I won't lie, up until today I was really questioning my spark.... I'm not seeing the results but I had some affirmation today from my hubs.

He's been gone for the last 5 days. And when he got home today and put his arms around me he told me it felt like I shrank... and I did. When I measured today I have lost almost 4 inches off my waist 3 of my thighs and 1.5 off my hips :) I'm also down 12lbs since the start of my journey!

But the biggest most important thing right now is that last tuesday I quit smoking. I've never made it this far before but as of 11 tonight i will be quit for 8 days! SP is helping me tremendously with this... I belong to the NO SMOKING team and it has been a wonderful source of support and knowledge. What is better is that SP also keeps me from snacking on junk while I'm owning my quit. The problem I ran into the last time I quit smoking was that I started eating to kill the cravings and gained almost 30 lbs in 3 weeks... which depressed me and so I started smoking again.

This time is different. I can feel the difference in my workouts and I love it!

I joined on 8/24 so it's just a month for me. I went back to the gym last week and have been logging my food almost every day. I'll even go on to see how many calories are in something before I eat it. So I'm making better choices. When I went food shopping today I got Lean cuisine pizza instead of the super fattening kinds I'd ordinarily get. I think SP is really terrific!

Karemarie, I just wanted to say TEN POUNDS is wonderful! I know this sounds hokey, but when my ticker started to move, it seriously made me smile from ear to ear. I was thrilled when the tennis ball went over the net and I could clearly see my goal in sight....

You are doing great!

ShimmeringBecca, I am almost at my one year Sparkiversary and I still think SP is great. I am constantly learning something new and just joined the Road Runners team because I want to be a better runner.

Thanks everyone for posting here...you continue to motivate me with your enthusiasm and successes!

ThinkBunny isn't it great? Some days I do procrastinate, but I just know once my heart rate gets going I'm ready to give it my all, it's a great feeling, I just wish I knew then what I know now. I find it really helpful to always blog or journal about how I feel before and after I work out so when those days come that I just don't feel like working out I have something to read to help me get more motivated. Good luck with your journey and keep up the good sweat ;P.

It's been about a month... and while I have not totally subscribed to a new lifestyle, I do notice a change! I love that I get emails daily that remind me to log on and stay on track. I love being able to track my food and exercise. I love getting support from other members. In short - I love this site! I have started recommending it to my friends and I hope this site stays a part of my life for a long time to come! Let's keep it up!

Wow, 10 pounds in 1 month is amazing! Congrats!

I completely relate to what you're saying about working out. When I started this a month ago, it was a chore to get on the treadmill 3 times a week. Now I find myself wanting to do it almost every day.

It's been a month for me so far and I feel great. It's been a struggle with the night time eating but with the help of fellow SP on the message boards I've gotten alot of great support and tips on how to deal with it. So far I've lost 10 pounds and I'm just starting to actually enjoy working out. I've been working out from the start but hating it and dreading it, now it's something I must do to feel great. I have a long way to go but for the first time in my life I feel like I might actually make my goal weight and the slow process is not something that bothers me like it used to when starting a WL program.

For the first time in my life, I feel like I have the motivation to actually change my lifestyle when it comes to health and nutrition. Growing up, I was taught that daily fast food and nightly desserts were completely normal. I've thought many times that I was going to change these habits, but never did anything about it. Then I stumbled upon SP.

I absolutely love the nutrition and fitness trackers! It's amazing how much more you think about your food choices when you see exactly how long you have to walk just to burn off that extra tablespoon of ranch dressing!

Good luck to everyone on this journey! We can do this!

I am 2 weeks in now and feeling really good. I have been on a journey of self improvement for many years now, conquering the addictions I picked up when I was young. The last one I kicked was smoking, and with that came weight gain. I wasn't sure how to manage that one and was browsing the internet looking for guidance when I came accross SparkPeople.

I had absolutely no idea about calories until I started using the Nutrition Tracker. I have found it invaluable, and feel empowered by it. I just know I can do this now. It has inspired me to cook from scratch more as I now have more understanding of what a balanced meal really means emoticon

I have also been exercising as much as I can, and using the Fitness tracker for that. I always felt ungainly when it came to exercise...I thought it was all about sit-ups. Now I have found things I can do. I have a Dancercise DVD that's fun. I also realise that walking faster helps!

emoticon all for sharing your stories, I find reading the forum posts really helpful. I feel part of a team, and no longer on my own. Oh, and my weight has been going down!

Today is 2 weeks since I joined SP. I felt great at first - but then gave in for this whole weekend (it was my husband's birthday, and we had the chance to go to a couple restaurants that we really love but rarely visit). So, I'm not pleased with all that indulgence. However, there were bright spots. I did cut out the mindless grabbing of sweets today (kept saying to myself, "Just for today!") - That is a big step for me. I checked in with SP everyday. I was honest with my weigh-ins & nutrition tracking. So, the weekend was not a total loss. Now, I'm craving a heavy cardio workout, so I think I will start dancing at home again tomorrow once the boys are back at school. Positive progress!

Hi, I'm Marilyn.Started here August 27. Was very overwhelmed at first by everything to do and see here, but I'm learning my way around some now.

I needed to really lose the excess weight that I have gained from a bad diet and little exercise. I had looked at weight watchers, but wasn't sure that was doable for me, so started looking around the Web for some kind of diet and exercise plan that wasn't a fad/starvation diet, and that I could do with my busy schedule. I landed here, and I love it.

I'm needing to lose 17 pounds, and have lost 3 1/2 so far.And already, I can feel my body becoming more toned and "in shape", more endurance, etc.

Today was difficult with the holiday and family members wanting to do things, but I was determined to get my exercise in. I just had to let them know that I would be unavailable for about 1/2 hour while I exercised. I am so glad they respected that. :-)
I just know if I miss one day that it will be too easy to make an excuse to miss another and another, until I am not doing it any more. I want this to be a lifetime thing, not just until I lose the weight and inches I need to.

I am a full time caregiver for my mother, and I decided I have to do this for me so I can be here for her. I also want to be able to play and spend time with my grandchildren.

I love SP, and looking forward to being here for a long time. Everyone is so nice and supportive.
Thanks SP!

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Phillipians 4:13

Many of you are blogging and even more are posting and that is excellent...with a group as HUGE as this one, it would be fantastic if you would just share how your fairly new SP journey is going...just a few lines to tell us your successes, struggles, whatever is on your mind...

You have no idea how many lives you can touch with just a few words....

So, please, share your Spark story....we all want to know you better...pull up a chair and pour yourself a cup of your fave beverage, then type away...we are here to listen!
