I'm Virginia, an old Fort Worth Texas Gal, been on Sparks a long time. Just trying to stay healthy, flexible, and keep moving. I have an exercise room with lots of equipment, and try to keep myself motivated to get out there exercise, walking on my treadmill and recumbent stationary bike riding to stay in shape. I have a pool that is great in the summer. I 'm married for 57 years, with a great hubby, have had 5 daughter, two still alive, and one grand daughter. Life is pretty busy I live in Calif. but Love and miss my Great State of Texas, I'm happy to meet you one and all.

Hi, I am VAGIRL4. It has been a long time since I have been on here and I have gained about 20 pounds since last year. I am not happy about this. My husband and I live in Corpus Christi and there is always a new restraunt opening all the time. I really want to get back on track. I will be going back to Ga the end of May and I want to have a much of this 20 pounds gone as possible. I do walk every day and work out with the kettle bells when the weather is not very good. How can I stay motovated? How can I eat right and healthy? My husband supposrts me some. But there is no one else. Help me stay on track.

JOBLAINE...how are you doing with the breakfast? breakfast is the most important meal of the day! i am so proud of you! sorry i have not been on...been gone a few days...went off of plan and regained 3 lbs., but am down 2 already and hopefully by next weigh in day i will be down a couple more. I love smoothies...i can use them for main meals putting greek yogurt,fruit, ice and water....snacks by using protein powder and frozen fruit and ice...you can make a different one every day.

Good Morning All;
I am 56 yr old woman. I live in the Central Texas area(for now). I have abused my body for most of my life. The blood pressure is going up, the cholesterol is going up too. Heart disease, blood sugar and thyroid trouble runs in the family. So I am playing with fire every day that I don't eat well or exercise. My brain knows this, but still I don't seem to care enough about ME to do something.
I read somewhere that new habits can be created by doing the action for 30 days in a row.....with that, I am going to be here EVERYDAY for the next 30 days and see what happens.

I have to believe in me and TRY...no DO IT, everyday ! ! !

Hi everyone! I am Felicia. I live in the piney woods of east Texas. I am 35 years old and have been married for 17 years and have 3 beautiful girls (Gabby 17, Bekah 14, and Chassidy 11). My girls keep me super busy with all of their activities, but this past year, I have been in a slump and have just really lost all of my motivation.

I have been wanting to lose weight and get into shape for a while and after running into a friend that has lost some serious pounds on Saba ACE I signed up to sale it and am now on a role. I feel great and want to tone and be fit along with loosing so here I am.

Today was my 2nd day of tracking my meals and fitness and I love it! It is motivating me and making me accountable for everything that goes in my mouth. I have like 50 pounds to loose by September so YIKES! I am down 9 pounds in the last month so hopefully SP and this group can keep me motivated.

Thanks for everyone's time and lets rock this!!

JudyCockrell -- I like your plan. Part of my problem is (1) I don't eat breakfast (2) I don't plan meals and don't think about what to eat until I am starving and (3) I don't keep easy to prepare things in the house.

I did some research on smoothies. I had never had one and didn't realize how easy they were to make. I also decided that on Sunday I can make a pot of oatmeal and keep it in the refrigerator. My main excuse for not having breakfast is always "I don't have time". Between smoothies and pre-made oatmeal, I can't use that excuse anymore. If anyone wants to send me messages on Sunday to remind me to make my oatmeal, I would be grateful emoticon

So next I need to plan meals and go to the store and buy the ingredients so that I have everything I need. I eat mostly vegetarian, and I love crockpot cooking. I have some good recipies. I need to just get (and stay) motivated and take the time to prepare stuff.

I am not a snacker -- I wait until I am starving. I like your thoughts on snacks and eating every 2 hours to keep blood sugar stable. Again -- for me the challenge is making a meal/snack plan and getting the ingredients.

Are you getting the idea that I am terribly lazy. I think it is more that I am disorganized, commit myself to more than I can do, and lose motivation easily. I have been reading a book on willpower and the author states that studies show that when we our blood sugar drops, our motivation goes with it.

So thanks for the ideas -- anyone who wants to befriend me and help keep me motivated -- i would love it emoticon

I tried them all as well...now do food combining and it is working because i am a snacker and i hate to give up my favorite foods! You balance your meals with a protein cooked in a healthy manner, a carbohydrate such as a potato or rice or whatever, and biggest part of your 8 inch plate are veggies..you can use butter sprinkles or sprays. Then you have 3 snacks always a protein..such as a boiled egg, a cheese stick or again, whatever..ha! Combine that with a fruit or hummus with sliced cucumbers..i love protein (whey to go product)smoothies made with fruit and if that is my meal, with plain yogurt sweetened with stevia..anything that is healthy but always combine a protein with a carb and remember small amounts but not too tiny..one servings of whatever you want...all meals have to be spaced 2 hours apart so it keeps your blood sugar level! you can use people to chart your progress and your foods so you can see where you made mistakes...if you do not want to spend much money look into how diabetics eat and that is basically this plan. I have lowered my blood pressure and cholesterol..i loved weight watchers but needed to cut expenses and that had to go(along with my yard man,,oooo)and this was the next best thing besides daily exercize. gotta get a walk in even if it is just around the block..start slowly at first..metropolis was not built in a day...and stay at least 100 yards from a typical restaurant in Texas! I go out now, but i have learned how to eat and somehow do not lose my mind in a mexican place. 100 lbs. is a long haul and you need the exercize to keep in shape and you need to learn to eat in places that help not hinder your weight loss. good luck! remember, we are here to help you. you are going to make mistakes and one mistake is to think you are going to lose the weight fast..some of us can, some of us cannot. We did not gain it overnight so do not expect to lose it overnight and you will stop sometimes..just walk a little further and check your plan to see if you made any errors and straighten them up. end of lecture...go girl! emoticon emoticon

you sound like you are out in the sticks! I used to live 7 miles from any town when i lived in California but now live in Brenham, Tx. i love being in town but do miss the quiet, no traffic, and country roads i could walk miles on or bike on with no traffic. These Texas will kill you! Love them tho...

Howdy! I'm Suzanne, I like food, music and outdoor activities. I'm here to get fit and healthy. I turned 50 a few months ago and it seems like 10 pounds came on overnight, ideally I'd like to lose 20 lbs. I'd like to join a smaller group in some sort of competition environment as that sort of scenario makes me more committed. But I need daily interaction with people I can get familiar with in the team to stay focused and not lose my motivation. Of course, I want to be on the winning team! :)

Starting to learn a few tricks on updating this program, seems everytime I start losing weight they change my medicines because something breaks down or I pick up a virus. I received a double lung transplant 3 years ago so very vulnerable to anything in the air knocking me down. Live in Fort Worth side of the DFW metroplex.

my weight is stuck fast...it gets really discouraging when you follow all of the rules and you do not get rewarded. at 70 my metabolism is in the toilet. I will do it but i will have to tweak a few things to fit me...

Hey everyone!
My name is Edgar. Been in Houston all my life, I am a trombone player, Ultimate Frisbee player, and a Nursing Major.
I am a freshman in college and have pretty much slipped up these past two semester, gaining about 17 lbs. I really don't enjoy the feeling of having all this extra weight. I feel sluggish, simple 2 mile runs have me winded beyond belief, and it just really sucks. My goal weight is hitting near 150 and then I'd like to start strength training once I hit that goal. If anyone knows cardio and core workouts that can help or if anyone in the Katy area needs a running buddy and is just starting, I would very much appreciate the help.

my! you have been hit with a ton of health issues! I love your attitude tho...you have climbed that wall so many times and now you have a little one to be healthy for. My daughter has fibromyalgia so i know what you are going through and now has to have a hystorectomy. She has the same attitude..so i am knocked down...when can i walk? Hello Everyone!!! I am an Iowa Native and moved to Texas with my husband in 2012. We live in East Texas in a town called Jacksonville. I have struggled with weight my whole life, looking to lose some down here, so when I visit "home" Iowans can be impressed. Things for me went down hill in 2008 when I was diagnosed with a Brain Tumor that required immediate surgery. Then in 2009 I had a c-section to my precious son. Then in 2012 I had a full thyroidectomy due to thyroid cancer. Hopefully the last diagnosed was in 2013 when I was told I had Fibromyalgia. I have been in the slumps for too many years. I know I never will get to work again but I am trying to stay healthy for my son. emoticon

Hi! My name is Kalei and I'm 22 just recovering from a surprise c-section with my 3rd child but 1st baby girl!!! I still have 5 weeks until I can full on work out but for now I'm just doing moderations on ab excersises. I just can't sit around for eight weeks and not work out. Walking doesn't satisfy me lol. Husband is doing really well..drove to walmart last night and he was gone so long i was wondering if he was coming back...turns out he was hung up with trying to get his watch repaired and finally ended up buying a new one...then he uses walmart as a place to walk. thank you for asking. As for gaining..salt intake? I am very salt sensitive so when you sit down to think that is the first that comes to mind. no matter...i can almost guarantee you will lose some of that this next week...just track! oops! dirty word! emoticon

oops! gained 2 lbs. this past week when husband was having stints put in his legs and had an hours drive(one way)to the hospital...you know Texas...dang! everything is uber distance to drive to...so had to eat out a lot and did not track. i will get rid of it tho! took a two mile walk today and will do so tomorrow plus a 45 minute class with a trainer. Not bad for 70..right?

i have a great walking buddy and we try to get out at least 2 times a week, sometimes 3, and we do 2 miles and let me tell you..we boogie! I hope you find a walking buddy because when you have to meet up with someone it makes you get out and do it. Be sure of one thing, find someone that is at the same level you are or you will not want to do it. My partner is my bff so when she took off(she works for weight watchers and is tiny)i was behind her with my tongue hanging out...for a while i tried every excuse in the book not to go but one day when i could not get out of it i suddenly discovered i could keep up with her...and at my age(she is younger)that is something to brag about! don't think i could do 3 with her tho..lol

hello to everyone from brenham...i am just above houston and to the west. I don't have as much to lose as some of you all, but i have around 40 lbs. hanging on me and i just turned 70 and i have had enough! My marriage is going a bit south lately...been married 51 years...and it caused me to mindlessly eat. I finally decided enough was enough and altho we live in the same house i do not have to eat house and home to compensate. I want to look nice in my clothes again and this is the year.

Hi! I'm from Lufkin! Still trying to figure all this out. I'm a mother of 3. A " GiGi" of 2 wonderful grandchildren (girl 6, boy 3). Own 2 businesses, work a part time job, take one day a week to relieve my Dad from taking care of my Mom who has Alzheimer's and teach a "Young Mom's bible Study Class". So you see I'm really busy, to the point I really didn't realize I had gain so much. I've put on 40lbs in the last 10years. The last year gained 15lbs. I'm really hoping with help and encouragement from others I can lose the weight and get healthy. So this will be a challenge, but I really need to do something!

Hey ya'll,
I am Taz... I am 51 , I have 3 children ( 2 girls one boy) girls will be turning 30, 26 and my son just turned 24. I have 3 grandbabies and one due end of Feb. (two girls and one boy and a boy on the way) I am forty pounds over weight, recently quit smoking and started baking cookies !! Soooo, now that I have to lift my belly up to tie my shoes it is time to replace bad habits with good habits so I don't cringe at the thought of buying clothes or going somewhere public where I feel self conscience .

Hi - My name is Beth and I am 55. I have 2 children (30 and 25) and 2 grandchildren (3 and 2). I live alone with my little dog Bella. I have MS and heart problems and need a heart transplant. So far I have lost 115 pounds and still need to lose another 20 pounds to be considered for the transplant. I feel a lot better with the 115 gone though even though I have started having seizures with the MS. I am excited to be on the Texas team I have heard there is a lot of energy here and I look forward to being a part of it.

The doctors have managed to get me sicker, fatter, and more tired, so I finally decided to cowgirl up & kick 'em to the curb. emoticon

I'm in my late 50s, and mostly in a wheelchair, but I'm developing a plan to handle that.

Hi All! I am Pam Leight from Troup! I am a wife and a mother of 2 pre-teen girls! I am a Lab Assistant in the Anatomical Pathology department at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler. I attend online classes with Grand Canyon University working towards my Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. I am not happy with my recent weight gain since having gall bladder surgery in 2010. My weight has increased 40+ lbs since having the surgery. New here to the Spark family. I live around the Dayton area. Trying to figure out the set up.
Lets see about me. Not a typical female, more of a TomGirl. I am in the process of turning my Jeep into a Street Legal Propane fueled rock crawler that will be used as a Community Outreach for Veterans & their familes & eventualy roll into a Ministry. I am all into the mechanics of the build, I was raised under a hood in an auto parts store. The only type osf fancy shoes I know of are Tires, LOL. My Jeep & I have a life long bond, long story short is that my Jeep was my 4x4 therapy when I couldn't afford radiation therapy after having 3 tumors/nodules removed that contained begining stages of 2 types of cancer. My Jeep was my blessing of a life saver.
I am a stay at home Mom of 2, a 14 year old & 18 year old. About to start an at home auto mechanics study course, I am some what familar with mechanics,just want to learn more.

Hi,, I'm Donna. I live in the FtWorth/mid cities area. I'm getting back to my nutrition and fitness goals, and going to try to dedicate more time to using this site to help me get there!

I'm 47, single but in a great relationship right now and looking forward to the new year. My goal is to lose 10 lbs. I'd like to do it before Valentine's Day,, but know that's a stretch, so my realistic goal is to be back to 112-113 by my birthday in April. I try to eat healthy as often as possible, but as usual during the holidays and while dating that has slipped quite a bit. So I'm going to work hard to get back to my goal weight and nutrition goals of eating lean and healthy. I can definitely tell a difference when I get a good balance of exercise, nutrition, water and sleep. I think balance is super important, and am excited to get back to my goals.

Hi y'all. Like a lot of you, I have been a Spark member for sometime. Life was too busy and hectic to really sit down and figure out this site. I have always thought it was a great site, but dang there is alot of it! LOL Now that I am retired, I have more time to devote to me and getting healthy. I am seeing higher numbers on the scale than I ever have and want to stop the upward motion. I turned 50 last year and decided to stop using my sluggish thyroid and mindset of my 'metabolism vacationing in Hawaii without me' as a reason for my increasing circumference. :D Ideally need to lose about 65 pounds to be in my ideal weight range. Just got the news that I now have high cholesterol for the first time and my blood pressure could be lower ideally. So I am going to attempt to get healthier going forward. Who knows, maybe my metabolism will get tired of Hawaii and come home to Texas. LOL I live in far North Texas, central to Mckinney, Greenville and Sherman. I am married, have two grown sons, one of which has blessed me with two beautiful grand angels that I get to take care of when their mommy is in school getting her degree and daddy is working. I want to get healthy and in better shape as it isn't easy chasing them around the house. :) Would love to meet local Sparkers in my area, but since it is kinda out in the middle of no where, that may not be possible. I am also looking forward to the online connections with fellow Texas Sparkers! Thanks for reading!

Hi I am 40 and divorced. I have 2 grown girls that have already moved out and 2 boys ages 15yrs and 9yrs still home with me. I have over 100 lbs to lose.

I have a lot of stress, mostly financially and I homeschool my boys. The older 1 is autistic.

Recent health problems (arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis, and sciatica) have forced me to make time. It is going to be difficult. Hi, I'm 51 years old and live just outside of Houston. I too am in the law enforcement field. I realize that I am not getting any younger but the "bad guys" are, and can be a challenge at times. I am not working the streets but deal with folks once they get arrested. Can be challenging at times to say the least. I need to drop about 20 pounds and get myself into better shape so that I can not only perform my job duties but be a happier, healthier person for my loved ones.

Well I guess I can start with I am 45 years old and as my name implies I am in law enforcement. I live in Kingwood, Tx. Over the years I have gotten a little (a lot) soft in the middle and I decided it was time to do something about it. I found a great app called Couch to 5k. If you follow the instructions and keep on getting up and doing it says you should be ready to run a 5k in 9 weeks. It does get you off the couch so I guess that is a win all by itself. I guess that is about it. Nice meeting everyone.

Hi everyone. I am a 36 year old mother to a 7 year old girl. I was diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease about 6 years ago. I have been slowly putting weight on for a long time. It has gotten near impossible to do many exercises but I have found that I can walk regularly so that is what I am going with. Hello, I just came to Texas this past summer. I am a Michigander. (relevant? I don't know, but it is part of who I am)
My hubby and I came here for better work and did find it. With it came a higher stress level in my life, and I am working on trying to cope with that.
The weight issue, I have had FOREVER. I really want to feel better, have more energy, and be able to shop in regular stores and not in the "big girls" shops.
So with that, I look forward to getting to know you all and hope that we can support each other through this journey.

Hello everyone!

My name is Pam. I'm 46 years old and I'm about to start this weight loss journey all over again. I've been married for 18 1/2 years, and a mother of two (1 adult & 1 teenager). I packed on the pounds during the course of completing my doctorate degree. The stress of research, writing, and the late night snacking while working on my dissertation sent me well over the edge with weight gain.

It's been a year now since I've graduated and I'm ready to get back to the way I use to look and feel. My goal includes being fit and healthy again. I was very active in the past; jogging, golf, bike riding, horseback riding, etc. My husband and I have planned a vacation the second week in June. I plan to lose 54 pounds by June 1, 2014. I can do this, and I will. This has motivated me to get the weight off.

I'm loving the Spark People website access! This is a great tool to assist me in this journey. I visit the website daily to log my food and exercise. Please feel free to encourage me through your postings.

Shining Star - I live in Pasadena and work in the Ellington area. Perhaps we could meet up for workouts sometime?

I joined Sparkpeople last week because I'm at the top of the healthy BMI range and don't want to buy bigger clothes. This week, I got the results of my physical back and found out that I also have high cholesterol so now I have even more motivation to diet and exercise.

New to SparkPeople. Live in Houston area (Webster down near Clear Lake, NASA, Baybrook Mall, etc).

I had lost almost all my weight and was within 9 lbs of goal weigh in Aug 2012. I have now gained back about 30 of the 80 I lost.

I need to kickstart again and I've been exercising on my own. No one close to me geographically and wish I had someone to exercise with at least once a week.

Would love to meet up with people near me and exercise.

Hi it's been a long time since I visited this site .
Hope to stick around this time my worst enemy is me I seem to self sabotage I'm voicing this to try to break this habit and to accountable for my self. emoticon

Hello, everyone.

I moved to Texas this summer. To my shagrin, I put on 15 pounds as soon as I did. This week, I decided to push back and get control over my weight again. Wish me luck!

Are there any groups of Austin or Cedar Park in the community? Would love to connect with some local Sparks!

Hi my name is Denise, and I live about 45 min NW of Austin.
I have been stuck on my weight loss journey and need motivation.
it is due to my own fault as I don't make the time to exercise other than walking around lots at work. emoticon
