My name is Pam. I'm 46 years old and I'm about to start this weight loss journey all over again. I've been married for 18 1/2 years, and a mother of two (1 adult & 1 teenager). I packed on the pounds during the course of completing my doctorate degree. The stress of research, writing, and the late night snacking while working on my dissertation sent me well over the edge with weight gain.
It's been a year now since I've graduated and I'm ready to get back to the way I use to look and feel. My goal includes being fit and healthy again. I was very active in the past; jogging, golf, bike riding, horseback riding, etc. My husband and I have planned a vacation the second week in June. I plan to lose 54 pounds by June 1, 2014. I can do this, and I will. This has motivated me to get the weight off.
I'm loving the Spark People website access! This is a great tool to assist me in this journey. I visit the website daily to log my food and exercise. Please feel free to encourage me through your postings.

Shining Star - I live in Pasadena and work in the Ellington area. Perhaps we could meet up for workouts sometime?
I joined Sparkpeople last week because I'm at the top of the healthy BMI range and don't want to buy bigger clothes. This week, I got the results of my physical back and found out that I also have high cholesterol so now I have even more motivation to diet and exercise.

New to SparkPeople. Live in Houston area (Webster down near Clear Lake, NASA, Baybrook Mall, etc).
I had lost almost all my weight and was within 9 lbs of goal weigh in Aug 2012. I have now gained back about 30 of the 80 I lost.
I need to kickstart again and I've been exercising on my own. No one close to me geographically and wish I had someone to exercise with at least once a week.
Would love to meet up with people near me and exercise.

I moved to Texas this summer. To my shagrin, I put on 15 pounds as soon as I did. This week, I decided to push back and get control over my weight again. Wish me luck!
Are there any groups of Austin or Cedar Park in the community? Would love to connect with some local Sparks!

Hello from Southeast Texas--Orange to be exact. I have been creeping on everything here at Sparkpeople for a week as I learn my way around. I am pretty excited about the opportunity to change my life and learn better habits. I have a good friend at work who is very supportive, a great husband who is on this journey with me for control of our lifestyle, but I need many more friends in my life who are in it to win it for themselves. I am morbidly obese, and I have been fighting with myself for my entire adult life. I even had a gastric band procedure in 1995, but have gained nearly all of it back. This time I plan to develop a different relationship with the foods I love and make friends with foods that I have not eaten before. I know that food is fuel and not comfort intellectually, but I have given it far more power for most of my life. I am both excited and scared to be here. I have a long journey to a healthy weight and the rest of my life to manage my health and well-being.

Hello Everyone! I'm Samantha and I am another Texas Spark Person. I live in East Texas. More specifically the Tyler/Longview area. I am one of the sparkers who are looking to lose more than 100 lbs. So, I have quite a journey ahead of me here. I am a writer, crafter, and artist. I enjoy a lot of things and consider myself to be new to all of this healthy lifestyle stuff. I am a stepmom to a seven year old girl who I homeschool. And while we are involved at the church we attend I am looking for friends and possibly even activity partners. Email friends are welcome as well. Or just friend me on here. I am working toward a goal of at least being able to walk/jog my first 5K in Tyler with the color up 5K in March of 2014.

Good day to my team. I signed up last month, but I am now motivated to start. I want to lose this extra jelly roll around the top of my jeans. Menopause and being over 50 has created a new challenge for me. I know I can do it because quitters never win, and winners never quit.

Hi my name is Trisha Hall and I have lived in Portland Texas for about a year and half. Have always wanted to live by the ocean. I have 4 children who are 17, 15, 12, and 11. I would love to lose about 25 pounds but want to tone up as well. I have had a lot of physical injuries that keep me from achieving my goals but I am still pushing for good results. I'm really tired of getting rid of the clothes in my closet for bigger ones or getting disgusted about shopping because I cant fit what I want...over all I want to be much healthier!

Hi, I am Kat.
I have lived in DFW for almost my whole life, and I still live there. Only time I left DFW was for college (Baylor), but I did not go far.
I am new to SparkPeople. I am looking to lose about 20lbs of fat, but I am hoping to gain a little muscle and tone up. I do not have a scale (I know scary...) and thus I do not actually have exact numbers to follow currently for weight. I am looking to tone up, get fit, and be able to fit the clothes in my closet again.

Hello all ~ I'm Allie and I live in Round Rock. I was born in Abilene. I have a high stress job that I love, but it doesn't leave a lot of time for reading or posting to the boards much less tracking and taking care of myself. I've decided it's time to take that time back even if it's a little here and there. I am 42 and have 47 pounds I want to lose. I have lost 40 over the last couple of years but stalled out and gave up for a while. I gained back 12 and that is not going to go up anymore!
Happy to meet y'all!!

I'm Erin. I'm originally from Michigan. I lived in Houston for most of the 90's and then went back to Michigan. The winters were just too cold so I came back about 3 1/2 years ago. Now I live near Galveston. For exercise, I love to swim and go for walks. I take my dogs to the seawall for walks but we usually end up playing in the water.

I'm dee, we just moved to the Hutto area from TN last week so I'm a newbie to Texas. I'm married to my best friend, we have two young adult kids, and are looking forward to getting to know this new place we have landed in.
My goals are to get back on track exercise and eating-wise, as I have regained all that I lost over the last few years. It's been a hectic few months with trying to get ready to move. Now that we are finally here.....the unpacking and job hunting begins.
I look forward to getting to know you all. Have a great day!!

I'm new here and ready for change. Looking forward to getting to know you guys and find some good motivators/friends to interact with about these lifestyle changes.
I have had past success doing a "Sugarbusters" type eating style. It seems to be, after a lifetime of being overweight, that I can stick to this plan.
I absolutely DESPISE cardio. I work hard and sweat all day, that's not the issue. I know that I need to buck up and DO IT. I have an exercise bike in my extra room, I have 725 acres of hiking trails, I have a pool available within walking distance, a bicycle, I just can't seem to motivate myself to get out there and do it. Something needs to change for me to lose this weight though.
I love strength training, lifting, body building, yoga. All of those things you don't have to move quickly for!
Anyway, nice to meet you all and talk to you soon!

Hi I'm Debbie and live in South Texas. I am 52, married 35 yrs., have grown children, lots of grandchildren young and old, and great grandbabies! I am one of the co-leaders of the INDYGIRL Spark Team and enjoy that very much but I would like to have a team that is close to my area that I can interact with. I know that on-line support is so very helpful but group support is sometimes needed as well!

Hi. I am Diane. I am turning 53 this month and want to be happy again. I am an emotional eater and with my life I eat a lot. I just became a Grandma 3 weeks ago. I have 2 daughters that are both growing up and moving on with their lives. I have been a single Mom for 15 years. The 3 of us are very close so it has been very hard for me to let them grow up. With each step they grow, college, marriage, babies I grow too. I grow bigger... They are turning into wonderful grown up women and I am turning into the Goodyear blimp. I am doing this in hopes of getting inspired and creating a new life for myself. So I can be around to enjoy my family for many, many years...

I was born and raised in TX but was transferred to NJ for 10 years. I used to be a runner but completed my last marathon in 2006 and thus have put on weight consistently. Now I am back in Texas and trying to start over. Hoping to take off the pounds and get back into running. I am taking it one day at a time...started my walking plan yesterday Sept 1st. Also working on eating healthier and control portions by using the compartmental plate :) Every day is a challenge as I am an emotional eater. Looking forward to finding time to get on spark people for more than just tracking my nutrition!

Hello Fellow Texans!
I am excited to start my weight-loss journey with y'all. My goal is to loose 100 pounds total but no more than 10 pounds a month. I am a busy RN, wife, mother to a 9 year old, and I have gone back to school in pursuit of a Bachelors Degree. I live in College Station but originally from the Killeen area. The way of getting my health back is to eat healthy by cutting out restaurant food to once a week and doing Zumba 3x/week just as a start.

Hi! I'm Leslie. I'm 48, and I live in the Longview area. I've lived in TX for 34 years. I have had my weight creep up over my entire adult life with occasional drops when I would start working out regularly. My couple of battles are staying motivated to keep working out and eating healthier when my husband doesn't want to change his diet. He is realizing where he sabotages my efforts and is trying now to help. My youngest child really wants me to lose weight and get more fit. She is a bit of a fitness buff and worries about the extra weight both my husband and I are carrying around. I have been tracking food and exercise for 3 weeks now and am trying to get into using other parts of this site to help me stay on track.

Good Morning! I was turned onto Spark People by my friend and have brought my husband and daughter with me!
Our family has begun the 24 day challenge (since my husband was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes) and this site works excellent with Advocare! We have to learn to exercise regularly, but the eating healthy has come easier than what we originally thought and tracking our food has made it even easier!

I may have visited this page before, but for the most part, I have tried to use SparkPeople for weight lose without being a part of the community. I have not joined the community because I didn't want people to know when I had failed. I have read other peoples success stories saying how invaluable talking to others can be, but thought that it wasn't for me. I'm sick of losing and regaining the same 20 pounds. I want to talk to other people who might understand me and my life.
I am a mother to 4 beautiful boys - 13, 4 (soon to be 5), 3, and 16 months. Besides my husband's parents, I have no family in Houston, and they spend 6 months out of the year at their summer home. I'm looking to meet other women and mothers, maybe even get together for a walk or other physical activity. I love playing sports, especially football and basketball and interested in playing some sport, ANY sport or an organized team. Since my marriage in 2007, I have been pregnant and or nursing for all but the first two months. The month before my I found out I was pregnant with my four year old, I earned a black belt in karate and felt fantastic! But our gym was in another state and I haven't found one that I like here. But I think I'm finally ready to get back into shape for me.
I wanted to say hello. and introduce myself.

Vicki, you'd be amazed that you might be able to run that 5k this time! My stepdaughter, a 13 year old track and basketball star was complaining that my husband and I were couch potatoes. She suggested that we do the couch to 5k program. We started 5 weeks ago, and while almost every week seemed daunting, we've survived every "run." Our 5k is in houston on sept 14 and we should be ready as long as we don't overtrain. I've never, and I mean never, run in my life. I was 100 pounds overweight for the majority of my life (30 years or so) even through I tried every diet out there. I'm down to 10 pounds from goal but I've never been all that fit. I downloaded the zen lab free c25k app and headed out to run with every negative thought you could have but it worked. Just this week, I ran for 20 min straight. I thought I would die the whole way but I did it. There aren't many things in life that give you that immediate sense of accomplishment. I say go for it girl, you got this!

My name is Meredith, a stay-at-home mom of two. I did SparkPeople years ago and got down to my goal. I had terrible respiratory problems and ended up putting the weight pack on. This past year was a tough year and although I continued to go to my Zumba classes, my eating/drinking habits weren't the best. With 7 weeks until the kids go back to school (my youngest starts kindergarten!) I am really motivated to lose this darn 20 lbs once and for all and get the house in order for a positive start to the school year for them and ME! emoticon

Hello, all. I currently live in San Angelo with my hubby. My son just graduated college and is looking for a job (computer science) and my daughter will be a junior at Tech. I just found out about SparkPeople and thought it would be a good way to be accountable to myself. I was recently at my highest weight ever. My husband is a high school teacher and football coach and is the head girls track coach. I am thrilled when I can talk to other Texas people and can say Tech without having to specify which one (as if the others count).
