You are welcome, sorry that I did not respond sooner, I've been without the internet.

Hi Christie,

I have been away from Spark Pages (got a bit discouraged there for a while!) I just wanted to let you know that your message (11/18) gives me a lot of courage. Thank you for letting me know that, even though you have hypothyroidism, that you are successful with the weight loss. I will persevere!

Thanks
Leenie

Hi,

Welcome to Spark and the team. I have a thyroid problem and I lose weight, the progress is slow, about 10-15 pounds a year, but at least it is coming off.

All the best to you and congrats for quitting smoking.

I am 63 years old, have always been pretty slim but quit smoking (again and for the last time) 6 months ago and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about 2 years ago. Just this year (maybe partly because of not smoking) I have gained a total of 15 pounds and was carrying another 15 before that. Because of my age and the slow-down in metabolism due to the thyroid issues and the smoking cessation, I'm a little afraid of failing. I'm willing to do what I need to do. I have made a few small goals and have been walking (fast) 1 1/2 miles 4 days a week and doing a yoga dvd 4 days a week. I plan to add some free weight training. I am tracking my calories (I've just learned that my carb ratio to fat and protein needs to be lower and calories 200 less because of that darn thyroid getting lazy). And I'm drinking water (at least 8 cups a day). Is there anyone out there who has been successful in losing weight while controlling the thyroid issues? I'd love to hear some inspiring stories. Thanks for reading along here. This seems like a great site.
