It has a small fee, but you get 5 new recipes every week. It helps so much with meal planning too.

I have literally thousands of recipes in an old cookbook wizard program but it's on my desktop machine upstairs and I can't access it from my tablet so I don't use them very often. Sent a help request to the supplier web site but they never answer e-mail. I could just buy a new copy and reinstall on this machine but I've one that half a dozen times now and I'm tired of shelling out $25 again every time I want to make system changes. Does anybody know of another recipe database program that will convert Meal Master/Cookbook Wizard recipes?

For light recipes, I use mostly the Hungry Girl (I have most of the cookbooks as well) and Skinnytaste websites but I've been a dedicated Taste of Home fan since I first discovered the print magaizine way back in the 80s.

And don't forget all the wonderful recipes you can find right here on SP. I've picked up some new favourites right here over the past year, so thanks to those of you who contribute regularly.

You have to want it to do it.

I mostly rely on my moms books that I got when she left us 9 yrs ago. I have a Good Housekeeping, Better Homes and Gardens and quite a few Taste of Living mags. As far as web sites, I like cooks.com best, until my friend and I start up our own cooking blog!

I have quite a few cookbooks, but if I am looking for something specific I really like to go onto chow.com and then go to chowhound. I can search for just about anything and there is going to be someone who has made it and has tips on the process. It's also great for restaurant reviews if I'm going to a new place. I haven't ever used it for more healthy recipes specifically, though.
I've never heard of some of the websites y'all are recommending - thank you so much!

I use mostly my printed cookbooks; I have quite the extensive collection that just keeps on growing, but for online sites I use:

Saveur.com
gourmet.com - the magazine may be defunct but the site is not.
Epicurious.com - compilation of a few different magazines on one site.

I like to use gojee.com when I have certain ingredients to use. The website collects info/pics from food blogs and puts them in one place. The recipes are not all healthy choices, but the pics are wonderful and I find myself inspired to try new dishes.

I have just reviewed all 11 pages of these website submissions, and some of you have a lot of food savvy, and all of you have a good handle on good websites for food.

There is one you have not mentioned, however, which is: 2 Fat Ladies. They did a series on the BBC. Here is the current site:

i'm not the type that wants to go out and buy 20 ingredients for 1 meal... so these are pretty good about keeping it simple.
my three favorites are
skinnytaste.com light and yummy stuff! i've made quite a few things on here. there's super healthy stuff AND re-makes of comfort food. this week i'm making spinach feta stuffed chicken and her chicken soup!

allrecipes.com is my general go-to for anything i can't find on skinnytaste.

tablespoon.com is also a great website.. very different. they're famous for their rainbow food... like cheesecake and cupcakes. they also have great recipes for well, everything.

Foodwishes.com with Chef John. I like this because they are short 5 minute videos that just shows you what the consistency and food should look like as it is being prepared. He gives you advice on what to do if something goes wrong. He skips all the boring parts like watching him dice vegetables for 15 minutes. You don't even see him or his hands. You just see the ingredients being put in the pot or baking dish. It's close ups that I find extremely helpful as a visual person.

His web site won for best cooking web site on the web last year. He also never uses gadgets like food processors and does everything using utensils in everyone's house. He is not into low fat cooking so I do substitute ingredients. Once at the web site you can type in anything you want a video on and having thousands on there one will pop up. One day I was on his site and typed in broccoli and got several videos pop up showing different recipes for that vegetable. Good if you are tiered of eating a vegetable the same old way.

In addition to many of the websites already mentioned, I like www.myrecipes.com and www.kalynskitchen.com. The My Recipes site includes many recipes from magazines like Cooking Light, Southern Cooking, Health and Coastal Living. The Kalyn's Kitchen site is a blog which includes many South Beach Diet style recipes.

I'm almost 100% sure it's been said before, but it's so wonderful that I'll say it again:

www.skinnytaste.com

Seriously, there are so many delicious recipes and her instructions are easy enough for a beginner cook like me to follow. Because the blog owner is a mom of picky eaters, they all taste amazing as well, without sacrificing any health. I highly recommend it.

www.dashingdish.com

I. DIE. Dashing Dish is a food blog site that has revamped versions of foods I crave all the time. Think Lasagna, CHOCOLATE CAKE, Monkey Bread, SHAMROCK SHAKES....hello?!?!?! I steadily pull recipes from her site and ALL of them have been phenom!

I also hit up kimberlysnyder.net almost every day. Besides learning insane facts about what foods do to our bodies from, I get great 100% raw recipes. My favorite and I'm sure her most famous is the Glowing Green Smoothie which I drink almost every morning. I also love her Tabouleh Salad recipe.

I use the Spark Recipe site and made the pan Chicken Parmesan with thin spaghetti and sauce. i also did one of the Sweet potato pies with the pecans on top. Both where very good.

I use other sites too but jump around online.

I am a very easy going gal that loves people and wants to know as many as I can. I want to make new friends so I can enjoy more of life. When people get to 55 or 60 there are some that think life should be over but guess what it is just beginning. Maybe 50 years ago it was over but not now people are living longer and working in their 70's. I would have been if I didn't have leukemia and it does not stop me but I have good days and bad, so being home if I need rest, I rest, at work I couldn't do

Since I'm new to Sparkpeople I had to check out Sparkrecipes. If you guys haven't tried "5 ingredient soup" OMG!
One ingredient is a can of refried beans and it REALLY gives this soup a different flavor, my wife an I really enjoyed it.
Lookin around is great but sometimes the greats jewels are right in front of you. Check out sparkrecipes, and REALLY give that soup a try : )

I seem to always be on Foodnetwork.ca and Yummly.com. Yummly is incredible as you can plug in ingredients you are looking for (or need to do without), allergies, preferences, etc and it will search all the big recipe websites for you. Love it!

Has anyone tried gojee.com yet? It's a blog aggregator that lets you search recipe sites based on what you have in your fridge. I've been using it a lot lately- the interface is a lot of fun. It brings up a big glossy (can pictures on the internet be glossy?) picture of the final product. It also let's you know exactly what you'd need to purchase before pulling up the recipe- which has shied me away from stuff with a litany of ingredients.

I love 101cookbooks.com. It's a vegetarian blog that focuses on local/seasonal produce. I'm not vegetarian but I wanted to learn how to prepare veggies in other ways besides steaming them or putting them in a salad. Heidi's recipes are outstanding and mostly simple to prepare. Also her photographs are scrumptious!

the recipe website i use most is allrecipes.com. they have an ingredient search, and i can get great ideas to "tweak". i also have used pioneer woman, food.com, foodnetwork.com, etc...pretty much a hundred of them out there. i google if i want a certain recipe and then see who has the best one! i have also started my own online cookbook at desktopcookbook.com you can upload your own recipes, share with other users, print out, share with your friends.

I love The Pioneer Woman (though she has butter all over the place) and her other site Tasty Kitchen, where any member can post thier recipies. The recipies are also searchable by ingredient, home-made (like spice mixes, etc) and for special dietary needs. It is also very printer-friendly.

Hi
I am new to this site, but not to cooking...My favorite starting point is Epicurious.com.
If I haven't found what I want there, I go to Google and type in the food that is the main ingredient i am looking for.. a great list of sites (all that I see here) and links to specific recipes are there. emoticon

you can look it up on his blog or for the quick version on youtube. I have really learned to cook by watching his videos, reading the recipes and ultimately trying them out on my own.

I have a ton of cooking sites that I like but my favorite is ShowMeTheCurry.com
www.ShowMeTheCurry.com
Since, I started to eat more Indian veggie dishes, this site is perfect for a newbie like myself.
They have tons of videos and they make the recipes easy to follow. The 2 young ladies are a joy to listen to and their style is casual. I have not made one recipe from this site that I thought was bad. If you don't have a spice or veggie needed for the dish, their advice is leave it out...the dish will still be good. And you know what, it works!
