Hello to the group, my name is Amber. I was first diagnosed with depression in 2008, and later this was changed to Bipolar II. I also live with chronic pain and illness. In addition to depression, I struggled with disordered eating and body dysmorphia, so being sure that I have mindful eating in addition to going into this journey with the support and help of my physician, psychologist, and nutritionist is very important to me. I was very excited to find this group and hope it serves as a motivation for myself to remain mindful each and every time I eat.
For multiple reasons, I'm currently at an unhealthy weight, so my short term goal for the next few months is to use nutrition and exercise to help fight depression. My longer term goal is to work toward losing weight which may decrease my pain (especially joint pain caused by a genetic collagen mutation which is increased due to excess weight bearing).
A bit more about me, I love animals and have many pets including a dog (trained as a service dog), a fish tank with several fish, three cats, four rabbits, and 16 guinea pigs (I raise/show guinea pigs and rabbits). I also love art, photography, graphic and web design, and crafts. In my free time, I like to read, mostly non-fiction books, and do puzzles such as Sudoku and jigsaw puzzles.
