Hey everyone. I have struggled with eating right most of my life. I can exercise all the time but my eating habits keep me from keeping the weight off. Sometimes I don't eat at all and then when I do eat I pig out or eat things that aren't good for my body. I'm hoping this challenge will help me learn the right way to go about eating and how to control my urges and emotional eating.

Hi there, my name is Angie, and I am hoping to find some inspiration here!! I am not new to sparkpeople, but have not been on here for a few years. My family took a little vacation this past week, and I looked at a photo of myself in a swimsuit, and burst into tears!! I vowed that I won't be like this next year. I am taking an online course on nutrition and there is an entire lesson on mindful eating. I am still searching for the reasons behind what I do, and trust me, there are many issues in regards to eating that I struggle with. I look forward to making some new friends and finding people that I can relate to and even support.

My name is Ciara and as I have been committing more fully to meditation and insight, I find that mindful eating is my next step along the path. Just as it is important to get enough exercise, enough sleep, enough water each day, it is important to not only get enough food but to be aware of what you are eating and to know when you have had enough. That is why I am here: to practice more awareness.

Hi I'm Julie. I am here because being mindful in all areas of our lives is helpful to coping better with stress and dealing with emotional issues too. I need to join the mindful eating goals because they are key components to a healthy lifestyle. I have been successful using Sparkpeople in the past and after gaining 35lbs back in the past 3 years I am returning to get back on track again, this time using the benefit of support and supporting others!

Hello, I found my way here after watching today's sparkcoach video. Earlier I'd read a blog by someone who was taking a picture of everything they ate, and thought I'd also try that. Mindless eating is a key (or has been) a key issue for me. When I'm mindful and focused, then I do lose weight, but have experienced problems in retaining that focus. Looking forward to participating in this challenge and finally getting a hold on this problem.

Kind of looks like this is not a very active team but I am so excited to track the goals of mindful eating. I know it helps me so much to pay attention to why I am eating and to bless what I am putting into my mouth. To be thankful for the food and to want to use it only for fuel not to pacify some other emotion.

The best cure for stressing is to count your blessings...and a long walk won't hurt either!

Hi hi
I am not that new but still new. I started my account few weeks back but didn't do anything with it. Or at least not what I wanted. I took a class about mindful eating and how to think about food 4 years ago. I learned a lot but didn't do anything with it. Hello! I really need to get my eating under control. I tend to eat the way I did when I was a child and my body can't handle it any more. As a child I was very skinny. The most I weighed until I was 25 was 105 lbs. I had given birth to my 4th child before I was able to get over 105 lbs when I was not pregnant. I did not become overweight until I was 28 yrs old. I became obese while I was in college (I was 32.) I had a heart attack at 52 yrs old. You would think I would have worked hard to lose the weight ( I was over 200 lbs) but I only lost about 15 lbs and then quit exercising and went back to eating a lot more junk. I need to really become mindful about my choices and pick healthier foods as well as watch portions. I believe this team can help me get my eating under control. I already have a good exercise plan but now it is time to get a food plan working.

I have struggled with binging most of my life & use food to comfort myself & give me pleasure. I've been trying to learn to let food be fuel,instead & thought mindful eating is exactly something I need ,because I've frequently shoveled bags of chips, candy / food in my mouth while watching TV & thought did I just eat all that ?!

Hi, I just found this team and find it to be just what I need. When I eat, I'm either in front of the computer, tv, etc; don't realize how fast I am eating. I need to focus and learn how to eat mindfully/eat slower. My first goal this week is to only eat at the dining table; only have my morning coffee at the computer....I CAN DO THIS!!!

I've just tried the Tame Your Sweet Tooth Challenge - and sort of failed, because I revert to the same patterns after a week of being 'good'. I have similar goals to others who have posted recently. Really want to tune into myself and find out why I eat what I eat!
1. Mindful Eating has been in my mind for a while - I did a Mindfulness course a couple of years' ago - but let it slip

Hello, my name is Carolyn! After years of letting myself eat whatever I want and get up to 268 pounds, I'm back into getting my life healthier and am 201 pounds.

1. How did you hear about Mindful Eating? I was browsing through the Spark Teams and stumbled upon Mindful Eating.

2. What was it that attracted you to Mindful Eating? I saw that it was a Challenge, and since I liked the Sleeping Challenge so much, I thought I'd give this one a shot. Also, I'm the kind of girl who eats when bored, when sad, when happy, and I could use to spend more time thinking about what I eat instead of scarfing.

3. Does applying mindfulness to other areas of your life interest you? I think so; I'd like to mindfully enjoy weekends, walks, time with friends and family - basically, really hold on to the good moments and soak them up.

Welcome Kathee. emoticon emoticon I have a tendency to binge when I am stressed or nervous. I have been pushed to my limits the past couple of weeks with my son being sick and no doctor's know which end is up. And my husband is being upset with the doctor's that it comes back on me. I have to be happy that I have not gone for that unhealthy snack too much. I will be honest that I have eaten a whole box of cookies a couple of weeks ago because of this stress. But the last couple of days, I have been careful in my choices.

Hi:

I have been in therapy for binge eating for about 9 months. I also am an emotional eater as well. I have managed to curb my binging but am still overeating. My therapist has put my name on a list for a mindful eating program that is offered here in Toronto. That will probably take another 2 years to get into. I have been actually searching out information on this way of eating . I have just started back on sparks after 2 years and. I am anxious to get started on Monday.

Hello, I am Sheryl. New to this team. THis was actually, my new years resolution, is to slow down and be mindful of my eating. My whole life I have been eating like a wolf. Take a couple of bites, and swallow. Can't stand the texture of the food, being chewed up. Gross, and also, if I eat slow, the food is cold, by the time,I get to it. So, when I found this group, naturally, I had to join. I hope and pray that I can finally, stop wolfing my food down, and I won't eat so much.

Great to hear. I also just started reading..even though its challenging to set time aside...I do get to read some of the book. Books are motivational. I just need one great idea and I can use the information or something may lead me to do more research. Keep up the work. Glad you are back.

I was on this team a while back but was not serious about it. I now realize that not eating mindfully has been my biggest issue and I've read a book about it..reading another now...and I'm ready to get SERIOUS!

I am new to the group . HI EVERYONE. I have joined a few groups and getting to know some of the common issues from our Spark groups. We are like a small village. I do agree...'become the food'. I am learning to make better choices and AVOID some things. Sometimes I have to just say STOP and think about controlling my thoughts.

Hi, my name is Peggy. I'm new to SparkPeople. I've joined a few groups. I know I'll need to eventually decide which ones really fit my needs and lifestyle. My goal for joining SP is to become healthier, more active, and become aware of what is in my food and what I'm putting in my body. It really seems like a tall order for me. I've tried dieting before and even hired a personal trainer for awhile. Nothing I've done in the past has lasted. It feels different this time.

Hello, I am fairly new to SparkPeople for a month and a half (I believe) I was told about this challenge and wanted to give it a try. I have some problems with eating, I love to eat for all the wrong reasons at times. I trying to do better for my health and to keep up with a hyper active child.

I am a member of the Intuitive Eating spark team - and I feel that the most significant part of Intuitive Eating is mindfulness.

Recognising hunger, thirsty, satiety.
Recognising fatigue, boredom, stress.
Recognising what my body wants to eat, rather than acting on habit or conditioning.

I am keen to learn much in this area!

Hi, I'm Heidi and have been on SP for 1 1/2 years. I am ready to add this key component to my new healthy lifestyle. I can spend an hour making a meal and inhale it in less than 5 minutes and need help slowing down and feeling full.

I have been half-heartedly trying to practice mindful eating for about the past two months. With the holidays around the corner, this may not be the time to start this challenge, but then again maybe it's the best time to be mindful of the gifts I am given emoticon

Hi all,

My name is Michelle and I am happy to have found this team! I have been exploring/learning about/practicing mindfulness in general for the past few months, but realized that I don't tend to apply this to my eating.

I'm an emotional eater. I've learned to control and divert for most days, but when a number of different events happen that evoke emotional stimuli, I revert back to food.

So with this challenge and by reading about the experiences of the people here, I'm hoping to learn some new techniques and practice the mindfulness I need.

Hi I am Burnin-upturtle because I am losing weight a slow step at a time but am burning it up with the exercise everyday. I joined this team because I am using Spark Coach and was suggested that it might be a good team to join. I have been on spark People for a little over a year and have lost 29 pounds. Hi I'm Becky. I used spark people several years ago and I'm back b/c it really helped! I managed to keep 30lbs off for 2 years even during pregnancy! I exercised daily while I was pregnant this last time and 2 weeks after birth was at my prepregnancy weight. Somehow since having postpartum depression and now 2 children I am constantly mindlessly eating and can't control it or not exercising. Just looking for some support and friends and techniques to help. Maybe that's too tmi but hopefully there are others that we can support each other :-)

Hello.... I struggle with eating when I am not actually hungry. I eat just to be eating. And I over eat. I need help with this. I need techniques to try so that I will not eat when I feel like eating something even though I am not hungry.

Hi, my name is Martinez and I am a food addict. I struggle with overeating, bingeing, and eating constantly. This is my first time addressing the problem and my first week of dealing with it. It has not been too hard but it is challenging enough. I need to learn better eating habits and how to control my cravings before I can be happy with myself or even try to lose weight - it's not pretty when I try to now.

Hi I'm trinaa, I'm struggling with eating to fast, overeating, binge eating, craving sweets everyday. I want to learn better eating habits. emoticon .


I got want to do it and do this for me. My mind is in battle and my body is at war. I'm in battle with myself and if I can over come myself than I can over come it all and do it one day at a time, let it go and get one step closer to my goal.
