Hi there! I'm new to this group but not to Cathe. I haven't been very systematic about strength training for a few years, so I'm currently doing her beginner rotation (I'm in month 2 of 3). I'm noticing real changes in my legs, and my arms and core are getting stronger. I've never progressed beyond Cathe's easier workouts, but this time I hope to! I ordered Cross Train Express to use after the beginner rotation. I also have Travel Fit and ordered her a Timesaver DVD. I'm 41 and looking to lose about 25 pounds.

HI there! I have been using Cathe videos since I had children 16 years ago! I love Cathe, because she keeps it "real" and she is so honest. I just got the new DVD's in the mail and wrote up my own rotation today, starting tomorrow. I am very excited. I have been side-lined with a torn achilles the past 2 months but it seems to be getting back to normal.

I have learned I need to listen to my body when it feels aches and pains, especially since I am getting older (45). I was runnning too much and when I started feeling the pain, I felt I was tough enough to push through it.

My goal is to lose about 15-18 pounds but with my thyroid condition (hypothyroid) I have to be honest with myself and just be happy with whatever loss I opbtain!

emoticon Jan - I've yet to 'meet' a Cathe I didn't like. There is something good in all the workouts.

Lori - I make up my own spreadsheets too.
There is a Cathe Continuum out there somewhere.
It's listed in the LINK section.
There are two of them - the one I use to copy to my own spreadsheet - which I like the looks of better.

Hi Cathe Fans,

I have to admit that I never heard of Cathe until 2 weeks ago when I saw a video clip on videocollage. Then I found her site and I liked that I could review a snippet of the Xtrain videos. I purchased the program and just completed Day 1 (Chest, Back & Shoulders). Can't wait to experience the rest of the program. I do like the workout manager however it took awhile to figure it out. I wish they had all of the workout cards setup for Xtrain.

Hello everyone - I have been doing Cathe for some time now, have all of her DVD's, including the newest XTrain. So far I've just been running through the XTrain and have done the Chest/Back/Tri's today, and did Hard Strikes and SuperCuts earlier this week. So far, I like a lot! I think I will do the 90-day rotation with LIS after I do them all.

Glad this forum is on Spark People - I enjoy using this site to track my calories and get involved with some of the other challenges (like the cut the sugar challenge :)).

Here's hoping the New Year leads all of us to better health, a weight we are happy with and no more cliffs!

I can't wait to try the Low Impact Series with Low Impact Challenge and some of the others. I couldn't workout as hard as I do without her Low Impact DVDs, with two bad knees! My favorite is Low Impact Circuit, but I do the premix with just the cardio. Love Cathe!

Hi,

My name is Bobbie Jo and I have exercised to one of Cathe's vhs's in the past. She is a great instructor. I workout with her high step circuit on dvd and I bought the Guts and butts one. I worked out with it a few days ago and it is a hard workout. I was sore for a couple of days. I will be working out with it again today. I have been doing different dvds including the firm series, turbo jam, Get ripped series, some Jackie Warner dvds,some Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels dvds,and some other dvds.

I like to mix up my workouts so that I don't get bored working out. I love step aerobics. I love Cathe's dvds because they mix up step aerobics with weight lifting. I know I worked out hard when I workout with her dvds because I feel it for a couple of days afterward. I am looking forward to getting some more of her dvds.

Hi, I'm not new to Cathe or Sparkpeople but it just occurred to me recently that there might be a team for Cathe fans on Sparkpeople. I started with Cathe's videos close to four years ago, when I was recovering from a heart attack. I was in shape and an exerciser at the time of the heart attack, and hated that I was so weak afterwards and back to square one. I wanted something so I could feel back in control, and I'd heard that Cathe was tough. So I got Basic Step, and struggled that first few months to finish just that step routine, with no risers on my step! Now I have several of her step workouts, and am considering which of her strength workouts would be appropriate for me. I can't say that I've consistently worked with her for the last four years--there's been setbacks and times when I've felt sorry for myself and stopped taking care of myself at all--but I can say I feel the healthiest and the most in control when I'm flying over a step doing a Cathe DVD!

Hi--new here--I've been doing Cathe workouts for around 8 years. She's helped my lose the baby weight for my last three kids. I have pretty much everything she's done, except some of her very early workouts. I also like Amy Bento and Kelly Coffey-Meyer and doing my own workouts.

Cathe really is my inspiration though--she got me started on my fitness journey and now after seven kids, I'm in the best shape of my life and no looking back :)

Hi, doing Cathe workouts for about 7years now, but new to SparkPeople. Found Cathe on Fit TV and have been buying her workouts and enjoying each one ever since. The best instructor and motivator ever!!!Love weight training; cardio is the big dread for me but feel great afterward!

Hi everyone,

I'm a stalker! I'm not new to this team, but I've been intrigued by Cathe's workouts for a while. I read through some of the threads on the team site and based on members recommendations just ordered Butts and Guts and Body Blast: Kick, Punch & Crunch and Legs & Glutes.

I've done two rotations of P90X and one rotation of Insanity. I've been doing a hybrid of these with some old school Firm videos (yes, VHS) thrown in for fun.

Hopefully with those Beachbodies workouts I'll be ready for Cathe. Wish me luck!

Hello all. How exciting to find a bunch of like-minded Cathe lovers! I was DEVASTATED when our cable provider dumped FITV from our lineup, as I am a Cathe fanatic. I own a handful of her DVDs and rotate them on weekends, as I work in the fitness industry and am doing my own workouts during the week. She is my reward at the end of the work week! I looked at the team map, is it really possible that I'm the only Cathe-crazed representative on this team from the San Francisco Bay Area? Say it isn't so! BTW, Collagevideo.com carries most, if not all of Cathe's DVDs and gives you all the stats (running time, difficulty) as well as showing video clips for those unsure about which DVD might be best for them.

Hello fellow Cathe fans; I'm new to this team and have only discovered SparkPeople a couple weeks ago (I'm sooooo addicted already!). emoticon ! I'm 47 and physical fitness has always been a part of my life until the past 18 months. I've not gained any weight but have gained several inches (and lost precious muscle) emoticon ! I love Cathe's gym style workouts and have been doing them for several years (before my hiatus, of course). I've started back working out everyday but have a long way to go to get the tone, fit body I had a couple years ago. I'm interested in the Cathe STS series; how does it compare to her earlier gym style workouts? Will it kick my butt into shape? What is the average length of a workout? I generally workout at 4:00am and allow an hour before starting a busy day (full time job I love, 8-5). Any input will be helpful.

What matters most is how you see yourself.

I am new to Sparkpeople, and I found this team. I am currently doing an STS Strength/Shock Cardio rotation. Tomorrow, I will start Week 4 of Mesocycle 1. This is my 3rd time through STS, and I have had really great muscle definition. I joined Spark People, because diet is not my strong point. I have quite a bit of belly fat in my abdominal area that I need to get rid of. I have been doing Cathe since 2007, and I love her workouts. I am really excited about this site and having a lot of fun exploring it. Sparkpeople is very motivational.

Hi, I'm new to this team and Cathe workouts. I just got the Basic Step one and did my 1st 30 min Cathe stpe workout this morning. Boy,her footwork is tough. I don't feel like I got much of a workout though because I was fumbling to keep up with what she was doing and I had to stop a few times to just watch the dvd. I wisj that she would give you a heads up about what move she is doing next and maybe explain it a little while she is doing the previous step. It seemed like she would change the footwork and then tell you what she changed to. I'm sure if I keep practicing I will eventually get it though. It was good that it kept my mind working while I did it - not boring at all!

ALFOX: I really like my Shock Cardio but I have heard great things about Insanity. One thing I have read on the Cathe Nation Forums is that those who just finished a round of Insanity are saying they find the Shock Cardio not as intense. So I guess it was you are looking for, personally for me Athletic Step and 40/20 are SUPER INTENSE!! I like have a variety of choices of intensity level, I don't want to or need to go Balls to the Wall every single cardio session...

I did the first 2 1/2 pages of STS 1RM today!

Hello all. Like most of you I've been using Cathe workouts for years now and I love her. She has the best workouts. Right now I'm trying to decide whether to use Shock Cardio or INSANITY between my Fatburning Furnace workouts (for which I use Cathe's Slow & Heavy DVD to accomplish) so any advice here would be good. Unfortunately I'm on a budget and can only get one Shock Cardio or the INSANITY set so I'm looking for any input before I make my decision...right now I'm leaning towards Shock Cardio.

Hi all,

I've been doing Cathe workouts for about 4-5 years now and find that no one else can push me the way she does - I swear she'll jump out of the TV if I'm not giving my all!! I just started STS again (didn't make it all the through the first time). Anyway, I look forward to being a part of this team!

(I also am doing SB Phase 1.5 (1-2 starch veggies/day and next week adding 1-2 fruits...I am trying to hold off adding back grains for two weeks. We'll see.)

Hi! Just wanted to introduce myself here. I have been doing Cathe Workouts since 2007, starting with Butts & Gutts (still a fav!) but now have a pretty good selection of her DVD. I just finished a 3 month rotation of P90X and am really excited to get back the Cathe! I still think she is the ROCK! I am planning on starting a STS/Shock Cardio Rotation on the 12 th of this month. I still need to do all my 1RM. I am taking a rest week with just cardio from the Shock Cardio collection (have to say doesn't feel like much of a rest! emoticon ) and I am scheduled to start the 1RM tomorrow as well as 2 weeks of the SB diet Phase 1!

Terri - I did exactly that tonight with HIS and much better! I was able to do more than I was before so I just need to remind myself to modify. :) I definitely find the arm movements add a lot of intensity so that's one way I would modify before (not do them if it was too much). I think finally eating enough helped with the workouts too. :)

Oh and I already have STS sitting here waiting...maybe Jan 1 after 4DS. After trying the 4DS workouts, I was hooked and got all of her workouts and pre-ordered the shock cardio too. :)

You're welcome. My favorite is LIS.
The step with no risers is a great workout without the risk of me falling into the TV or hitting the other equipment in my tiny little workout room.
To up the cardio, I simply make greater efforts at the arm movements (which Cathe says contributes 12% to the cardio...with .5-1# wrist weights it adds a little more and is NOT harmful to my joints)

You're absolutely right! I didn't even think about not using the step or even a lower step height for the step workouts. I was looking at the beginner rotation and I like basic step but it's too..well basic. :) I'm going to keep using the 4DS and just modify. Thanks!

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to re-introduce myself. I'm Nancy and I was a member here recently (previous user name was serenity131) and on impulse closed my account out of frustration. So I decided to come back and start fresh.

I am so hooked on Cathe's workouts but with gaining some weight, my cardio endurance is non-existent. I as doing the 4DS workouts but they were getting harder and harder. So I've decided to start again and follow her beginner rotation to build up my endurance again.

Hi windleg,

I am new to Cathe too. I was told to get Muscle Max because it's total body. You can chose the individual chapters are various premixes for each portion of your body. Of course, you can do the entire workout as well.

I have watched Cathe on Fit TV, but I have never completed one of her workouts. I consider myself a pretty advanced exerciser, and I would like to add Cathe to my routine. Does anyone have any suggestions for my first Cathe video purchase?

Hi, I am a BIG fan of Tae Bo, and thanks to my buds on the Tae Bo team, I am becoming addicted to the Cathe workouts. I started out with KPC last month. I wanted to add more than just kickboxing, so now I have Drill Max, Butts and Guts, and Kick Max. I need to strengthen my upper body and tone up my flabby arms, so I just ordered muscle max, gym style for the chest/biceps/triceps and shoulders.

I live in NC, with two kitties and my boyfriend. I spend all of my time looking for work (as I was laid off), housework, and working out. If you check out my page, you will see numerous pics of my fur babies as well as a goal picture. My reminder that I don't want to be the fat chick at my cousin's wedding. As I mentioned above, I dislike my flabby arms, and the bridesmaid dress is sleeveless a-line. I know with determination, I will loose fat and gain muscle strength. My goal is to be toned and healthy for the wedding (in October).

I have been working out for 3 yrs, and Turbo Jam was my main kickboxing DVD's. However I need to kick my cardio up a notch so I got Cathe's Kick Max and Punch Kick and Crunch.
Today I did Kick Max bootcamp/kickboxing premix for 40 minutes and she really made me work out hard! My HRM said I burnt nearly 400cal and I was just DRENCHED which is not usual for me. I got a little behind with some of her complex moves but I'm sure in time I'll catch on. Mistakes burn calories too!
I hope Cathe will help me shed these last stubborn pounds!
I'm avoiding strength training for now (I have been doing ChaLEAN Extreme since Jan) since I"m bulking up lately. I plan to go back to CLX once my muscle bulk decreases. I heard good stuff about STS but again I am the type to build up too much so I won't be able to venture in that direction.

Hiya everybody!!!

My name's Jean. While I can't do a lot of Cathe's cardio work outs, yet & some of the strength training IS hard (endurance-wise), I think she's a incredible woman. She's an inspiration to me and makes me try harder.

I was introduced to Cathe through FitTV and I used to tape her work outs. Now, I don't have cable and I only have one of her DVDs, but I plan on getting more as I get better with my work outs.

Hi! I'm Heather. I have been a fan of Cathe for awhile now and have several of her older DVD's. I don't have any of the new STS DVD's yet and am saving up for them. I want to get more into the lifting weights as I do tend to do plenty of cardio. I am an ice skater and 3x a week am on the ice. Since my body is trained pretty well with skating I try to do other cardio as well. I'm living under construction and just got my DVD player hooked back up and started using Cathe again.

How do you count things which are interval training - under cardio, other exercises or both? Right now I've just been counting it as one item under the cardio with the results from my hrm and then one item under the other exercises and not breaking it out into the individual exercises on my tracking.

Hmmm maybe Muscle max. I can certainly work those areas for your challenge using P90X and Chalean Extreme workouts until I get more Cathe - they have ones that focus on certain body parts. Right now I'm laid off of work but that could change next week as I have an interview tomorrow ---oh to work again!

LN - you're in for a real 'ride' with Cathe. There is something for everyone for sure.

1st - STS is the greatest program.
But, you can still do a similar program using either other workouts or your own creation.

I'm the leader or another team where quite a few are doing the principles behind STS without actually having the workout DVD's.

Hope this helps.

As follows:
Here are our challenge guidelines:

The weekly workout schedule will be:
3 days of cardio training
3 days of strength training
1 day of yoga-stretch-rest

Alternate Days: Cardio / Strength Training

... with no more than 20 minutes of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

CHOOSE ONE of the following for your 3 days of strength training

Option #1
Muscle Endurance - 60-70% max weight - 12-15 reps per exercise

Hello everybody! I'm relatively new to Cathe. I've had CoreMax for awhile. Two weeks ago I purchased Butts and Guts and last week Bodymax 2. I think I'm in love, lol. I've done P90X and Chalean Extreme and Cathe is a great change. I did the bodymax 2 step workout and was sore for the first time in a very long time. What strength dvds do you recommend? I don't have the $$ for STS at the moment so I am looking for a total body - maybe one that has days I can alternate upper with lower?

Sweets - check out your DEMAND shows. Sometimes they have Cathe without any commercials....that makes for tapeing your own workouts SO MUCH BETTER.

I just buy them. They have so many premixes that it is more than worth the price.

Hello everyone! I'm just jumping back into trying to lose weight after having my little girl. I do not own any Cathe videos, but I have just started watching her on Fit TV, and love her! She kills me! I'm saving up for a stepper and some more of the workout equipment that she uses. Once I get the things that I need I'm going to look into getting her DVDs!

I use her weight suggestions as the total amount of PLATES I add. My bar is a standard bar(not olympic) and the weight is really insignificant maybe ~4-5#
I don't count that in.
