Hi all! I'm Kellie from Western Kentucky. I have about 60 pounds to lose...I've been off and on Sparkpeople for a while now, but the motivation and support always draws me back.
I am registered to do my very first 5K during the Tower of Terror 10 miler weekend at Walt Disney World in October. I basically signed up to give myself a reason to get up off the couch and get going. I knew a 5k here at home wouldn't do the trick, but my love for visiting WDW would! Our reward for completing this will be a 6 night stay and visit to the parks.
I was a little worried about how I was going to start running. Being overweight I have bad knees, tendinitis, and plantar fasciitis that flares up occassionally...i had no idea how i was going to finish a 5K, I just decided i would. I came across Jeff Galloway's method on the runDisney site and immediately knew it was going to be the plan for me. When i started, it took me 30 min to walk a mile. I'm in under 20 now. My intervals are still in the "seconds" range, but I am getting better and growing more confident. Someday I may even enjoy running! :)
I am anxious to hear your advice for new Galloway style runners and excited about finding this group of motivators and running buddies!
