I was on Spark and did ok then I quit and gained weight and then I was on Spark and did ok and then I quit spark and gained it back and then I was on Spark again...
Anyway, I'm on the Spark part of the cycle again. This group was more active before but the holidays might have something to do with that.

Hey guys:
Good to find a group just for guys. I'm hoping to benefit from the support and ideas here as well as do likewise for others.
I am in my early 60s, semi-retired and a new grandpa. My daughter is getting married next May and I want to drop some weight prior to then so I look a little more trim for the photos. We live in TN. My main interests are cycling and watching college sports.

Hi all,
I've maintained a 75lb weight loss for over 20 years. Now I work with men that have lost a substantial amount of weight to help them think and feel as great as they look. I'm looking forward to sharing ideas here on Sparkpeople.
I'm a bit of a gym rat and, though I lost my weight using Weight Watchers, I'm now a Paleo eater.

I just posted this on SparkMen. So these are the only two teams I belong to now.... For possibly the 20th time I am back at SparkPeople trying to get myself on the right track. Had great success five yeas ago with a 50lb loss, but didn't maintain it long enough to change habits.
Did CrossFit for two years but stopped 6 months ago due to injuries that still have not been diagnosed. Going for MRI in a few weeks to try to find source of numbness in all four extremities. Stupid thing is that am still able to run and just ran a 25 minute 5k just yesterday, over a bridge twice!
My wife tells me to log my food because hat is my downfall....so here I am again. See a few familiar faces, will try to contribute.

Hey all, nice to see a men's forum on here.
I'm science guy working on my PhD. Returned to SparkPeople after a long hiatus. Lost a lot of weight (like 110 lbs) on Jenny Craig about 12 yrs ago - and it was weird being the only dude in the center. Gained quite a lot of weight back during college and early grad school, now trying to lose weight again after that. Shaved off 40 lbs in the last 10 weeks, going for optimal health.

Hey guys, i am Dave Youel, 40 yrs old, former teacher and now telesales supervisor. I have a family in Louisa Virginia (yes we are near the earthquake from last year) with a loving wife, a son and daughter, two cats and two dogs. I am returning to Spark again after having been a member during my early thirties when I was working at Circuit City. I have been on the weight loss roller coaster and now we are seeing a nutritionist monthly and I am looking to reconnect with a group I can contact/communicate with 24/7.

Hi,
My name is Josh. I'm 34 years old and live in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. It's part of the greater Toronto area. I joined Sparkpeople a few years ago but wasn't ready to take it seriously. Now I'm a little older and, hopefully, wiser. I'm ready to turn over a new leaf. I also have a physical disability but I manage to keep active.

Hi Everyone,
Just introducing myself. I'm new to Sparkpeople, first week and I've weighed in with a high weight of 260, trying to get back into shape. I've had a rough, rough time in life in the last 5 years and I am just getting around to taking care of myself again. Hope to see you all in the forums!!

Hello all (again) I've been here before, probably even introduced myself before. Time to get serious about this. The wife and I have been following Weight Watchers for the last few weeks. I'm doing the tracking with them, but am going to come here for the community. The scale has read as high as 315 (I think that was higher than the rated capacity, that scale stopped working a little while ago), but I'm currently hanging around the 275-280

Hi guys. I guess this is a REintroduction because it has been years since I've been around. My top weight was 370+, got down just below 300 (some of that was due to health issues) but I've gotten back up to over 325 and looking to make some changes and lose some weight the RIGHT way. Turned 40 last year, so that is a big motivator too. Hard to keep up with my kids!

Hi, My name is Jim; I live in Long Pond Pennsylvania. My wife told me to join this team.. LOL I want to lose 25 Lbs, and to feel better. As of this writing I have lost 16 lbs. The food tracker has made it almost painless.
Lately the scale won’t budge, but at least it’s not moving up. I have a lot of health issues which it difficult for me to do enough cardio. Anyway I’m glad to belong to a team that’s not ranting about flabby thighs, cellulite or having endless debates about gaining excess water weight.

New here; been on Spark for a little over 60 days. 50 years old, business owner, scientist, husband, father of two teens. Goal to lose 126 lbs from where I started and about 100 from where I am now. Spark has been working great for me so far, but very glad to associate with some people also advantaged with a y-chromosome.

Hey guys,
My name is Greg I am a 42 year old father of 3 boys. I tried Spark people in the past and had great success and then fell off the tracking and everything went to heck... I am a 17 year Veteran of the US Army and served in 3 combat tours. I am disgusted that a hard core soldier has let him self go and not able to keep in the shape I was for many years. I want to get back in shape and be combat ready, even though that part of my life has ended several years ago. I enjoy playing Ice Hockey, hiking and geocaching with my wife and kids. I really enjoy doing anything outdoors. I am setting a goal of losing 100 lbs before my birthday in August, here goes nothing......

Welcome aboard Matt. I too, never liked weight training much and could not stay dedicated when I tried to do it at a gym. I always cut corners, skipped some, etc. Your idea of a bootcamp is a good one because you have someone else insisting that you do all the exercises and all the reps. In a similar vein, that is how I have gotten myself in the habit of doing resistance training. I do videos. Although they are not bootcamp - they tell you what to do and count it out for you. It is more trouble to fast forward than it is to just do it. Once you are done bootcamp you might want to consider it. Good Luck.

Names Matt-
Been here since January and been through the steps, stuck at 203-205 range, took a few weeks off and bloated back up to 209. Dropped it back down pretty fast. Just flipping through the teams and stumbled across this one.
One thing that I never really got into was the strength training. I did a lot of cardio activities such as tredmill (walking), hiking, and some Wii games. So this time around I am trying the 28 day boot camp. Tried it a couple of times before, but I stopped during the first week because of illness, once, chest pains were scaring me off, and the second was just last week with a touch of the stomache flu or something...but I got right back at it this time around.
Through this site, I have picked up a couple new hobbies, I now enjoy geocaching, and because of that , I discovered hiking trails that I never knew existed around here. Here is Central Illinois. I also enjoy PC gaming and collect ancient Roman coins. But most of my free time is devoted to my daughter.
Sorry for the long post. I'll stop now.
Matt

Hi Everyone... I've actually been on SparkPeople for some time now. I have noticed that my weight fluctuates with my activity level on SP. I have noticed whenever I'm active on this site, I tend to lose weight. When I ignore this site, I end up gaining weight. Go figure.
So, I turned 40 this year, and I hit my all time high of 271 lbs just a few weeks ago. At that time, I determined it was time to get back to some healthy habits.
This time around, I'm trying to participate with more people / teams, in hopes of keeping my interest high and keeping the change in lifestyle.

Hey, I am 37 years old and my six year old daughter is more active and healthier than I am. This needs to change. My wife and I joined Spark back in December but we didn't last long. This is our second attempt and hopefully it goes better. Everyone seems to say this but it's nice to know I am not the only guy on the site. P
I wondered why that frisbee was getting larger and then it hit me.

I am assuming from your name on the site (mzungu_tembo) that you have spent some time in East Africa (or are familiar with Swahili). I am a missionary in Tanzania. I have been here for 6 1/2 years and am committed to stay until 2018.
I am currently at 310.6 lbs looking to reach 180. I am new to the program and am looking for any help I can get.
Thanks for reading!

Just letting everyone know that it's good to be here! I started feeling a little out of place around this "female majority" weight & exercise training website. If it weren't for my determination I probably would've been gone months ago!
Anyway, I'm Carl and I've been on this site since last year but started actively using its information in March of this year when I found out I was defined as having stage one hypertension. I weighed 193 @ 5'7" and lost 28 lbs by June, thanks to the knowledge found here. I thought I was done with the weight loss & started the weight maintenance by implementing smarter food choices & exercising on a routine basis. last week I learned that I should have dropped 5 more pounds than I did, so here we go again!!! I shouldn't have a problem with that after what I had gone through, ya think?!
Much success to all of you!

Hi guys. Glad to see there are other guys on here...
20, almost 21, from Calgary AB, looking to lose some weight... I've been trying for a while, but the life of a 20 year old guy consists mainly of drinking beer and playing video games. No more of that. I'm looking to trim down, and I'm glad there's a group dedicated to the guys on this website to help me through it!
Oh, and my name is Dan!

Hey Guys. New to Spark (Duh, Captain Obvious). I am 56 and just a bit overweight (10lbs ish). I came over here looking for a way to combine my current tracking of exercise with an opportunity to track my food intake to get some perspective on what I eat. For the past 18 months I have been doing exercise videos at least 4 times a week. Stop laughing. I know that most are marketed to women (I don't do the P90 stuff). As a physical therapist (not actively practicing - in management) I am confident that they work because you can combine them to get a good mix of cardio, strength and stretching and frankly I am stronger and more flexible (I was already OK from a cardio perspective). I also like them. Tracking workouts, and participating in an exercise forum has helped me stay on track with fitness. But I have gained maybe 10 lbs in the last year to get where I am. I know some of it is muscle weight (no complaints there - I lacked some upper body strength in particular) but mainly I eat too much, especially snacking. I also drink more than I should since I am on some medications. I am going to give the food tracking a month at least to see if this site works for me. From what I can find, alcoholic beverages are only looked at from a diet perspective, and not something I can track seperately to help me achieve one-a-day, as advised by my physician. Anyway - that's me in a nutshell. If there is some feature to help me with my drinking (not an alcoholic but it has been at about 3 a day) please point me in the right direction. BTW - my username is my initials phonetically...DMN

Hey,
I just started with Spark, and at 37 I am in a similar position to many of you. I'm just over 400lbs and borderline hypertensive. Luckily my blood sugar is fine, but truthfully how long can that last? So I'm here to not only try and loose weight but to learn to be more active, eat healthier and hopefully win my life back. The fact that many of you've made such good progress is certainly a motivator to me. Keep up the grea work, I hope to be joining you at the sub400 level soon!

Dan --
Congratulations on your Biggest Loser success. And hunting down a local buddy is a great idea. Hope you find an exercise buddy nearby. Sorry, I'm a bit too far away.
By the way, if you create your own SparkPage (under the Community Tab) you can use the SparkPages to find buddies who share interests and are in a nearby geographic area.
Best wishes...

Hello men. My names Dan, just signed on Sparks. I live in Taylor Mill, KY. Would be cool to find guys in my area that might be interested in working out together, starting off walking at nearby park. I work a 3rd shift, so I am free to walk ot work out from about 1:00 till 8 pm. Could be motivational for both of us or a bunch of us. Did a biggest loser contest at my job for 12 weeks, lost 26 lbs. but want to continue weight lost. give me a shout if interested. I am 52 and want to get healthy.

Guys, we need this place. I'm fortunate -- military life and good genes have me in reasonable shape but in my 60's it's always a challenge not to go entirely to seed. Looking for routines that fit my other activities and don't depend on my being a rabid gym rat (I'm not). Seems like that might be right here. Anxious to learn.

What worked for me is to set two week spans that you will change one major thing. Change it all the way and have it down in two weeks. They say it takes two or three weeks to start a good habit, so that's why I chose that amount of time. I started the whole thing by clearing out my fridge and pantry. Then for the first two weeks I concentrated on moving to 5 meals a day and staying under my total calorie goal for the day. I stored healthy shelf stable snacks in my car, my desk at work and any other places I thought I might get stuck when I needed to eat. I worked on watching the clock and getting used to the feeling of when it might be close to the 2.5 or 3 hour mark when I should eat again. I ate whether I felt hungry or not and I didn't eat again until it was time even if I felt hungry in between. I got used to the difference of healthy hunger vs. craving. I didn't worry a lick about exercise those two weeks at all. I just worked on the food thing. I didn't go out to eat at all those two weeks so that I could just get the timing and the calorie intake and proper nutrition down. I waited for week three to start cardio. I had the goal of walking 45 min 4-5 times a week for those two weeks and then I would start something a little more intense. I didn't try strength training at all. I didn't worry about a gym or dumb bells etc. I just did that one thing and did it all the way balls to the wall for those two weeks while maintaining the habits from my first two week change. Weeks 5-14 I decided to build my cardio capacity and am doing couch to 5k with my ipod on a Nordic Track machine (Podrunner intervals). Weeks 5-6 I just focused on starting and keeping to that routine and the eating right. Weeks 7-8 I added some lighter cardio workouts on the days in between my couch to 5K workouts. Well I'm 8 weeks in. I'm in a total groove with cardio and eating to the point where I would feel weird if I didn't do the right things. I have dropped a lot of weight, feel great and will be halfway to a 5K next week. Weeks 9-10 I'm adding basic strength training 2 times per week(push ups, sit ups, free squats and curls with dumb bells) to ramp up for the big push when couch to 5k is over. Because first week of July I'm starting P90X! If I tried to do everything all at once or tried something too intense too early on I'm sure that I would just feel overwhlemed and quit, but by just focusing on getting one thing right for two weeks I feel totally liberated. I don't have to worry about getting anything but that one thing right because the past issues are a habit and not as hard to maintain. Hope that helps. You can do this!

Hey Guys,
I have been "using" spark people since late March, but mostly just to have a convenient way to track my food and exercise. I really wasn't fully utilizing everything this site has to offer. Heck I don't even have a picture up yet (give me a minute mmmkay). I am using this site while in a medically supervised weight management program. I hit 36 this year and was thiiiis close to diabetes and just crossed an unholy boundary - I weighed four bills, quatro cientos, two squared hundo...not good. Not to mention I was a freaking Madonna song "Borderline" diabetic, "Borderline" hypertensive, "Borderline" personality disorder (just kidding). A coworker told me about the program I'm in and I knew right away that, like Jake and Elwood, I was on a mission from God. Since I started the program in March I've lost 51 pounds, gotten halfway through Podrunner Intervals 1st day to 5K series on my Nordic Track, and pulled myself back from the brink of all those boderline numbers.

I'm about to turn 30 in 2 weeks and I really want to start 30 years of my life on a good note. That means getting my weight down. I'm also a laugh riot to be around or so I'm told. Really looking for some good support.

Hey Guys. I just joined SP less than 24 hours ago and basically wanna make sure I keep my motivation up by talking to other people and getting their input. I'm a 27 yo U.S. Navy Gunners Mate that has had a little too much down time in the past couple of years. I recently got stationed in Guam and am basically at a stand still as to where to start getting in shape. I am using the SP plans on here to put me in the right direction. As of right now I am at 232lbs. The Navy height weight standards say that a 6'1" male should weigh no more than 207. My goal weight by my 28th birthday in September is 202. I think 30 pounds is a pretty good challenge for that amount of time. My main problem is eating habits. I'm trying to get out of the 3 big meals rut and into the 5 smaller meals to boost metabolism. Just wanted to know if any of you have had to switch to that sort of meal plan and if so, how long did it take you to fully adjust to it? I appreciate the help and motivation you guys have. I'll be lookin on here pretty often to see how everyone is keepin up with things. The best of luck to everyone and STAY MOTIVATED!

Hello everyone, I'm Dave from Las Vegas, NV. I joined SparkPeople a couple weeks ago and I'm looking for some SparkBuddys. I really enjoy getting motivation from others and being able to provide encouragement and motivation to others. I started using my Wii Fit to weigh-in in January, when I was my starting weight of 296 pounds. I'm currently 268 pounds and looking to get down to 220. I ran my first two 10K races in April and I'm signing up for the Las Vegas Half-Marathon on December 4th. I can comfortably run 8 miles now, so I know I'll be ready for 13.1 by December. I'm probably one of the heaviest distance runners you've ever seen, but I'm getting it done! LOL. I feel like I'm breaking through layers of fat and I'm really excited about seeing progress with each passing month. If you're looking for a good SparkBuddy, please give me an add and I'll do the same. Thanks guys!

Hello Gentlemen -
Joined SP on 4-13 and I have found it to be a great site. Have found tons of information to help me along on my journey. Back in Feb I went to the Dr for a check up and when I was asked to step up the scale, I almost fell over backwards when I saw 255 lbs. I told the nurse that was un-acceptable. So since then I have been on this journey. As of this morning I weighted in at 236, & my goal's 180. Now I am 49 and 6'2" tall and according to the BMI chart 180 would be an ideal weight for me. But I am thinking to skinny. So as I am heading towards this goal and stop and hen i fell that I am the proper weight that looks good.

Hello... I joined SparkPeople about 2 weeks ago. I wondered if there was a men's team on this board and sure enough there is. I'm a 34 year old guy from the midwest, just trying to lose weight from all the fast food and fried food and junk food I've consumed over the years.

I joined this team a while back, but don't think I ever posted an introduction. My name is Craig, I typically live in the St. Louis area and am an attorney. However, my other job and something that I love doing is being a member of the US Army Reserves. (PSYOP). Right now I am stationed in Afghanistan, but should be out of here in about 45 days!
I had to lose a lot of weight to get back into the Army 2 years ago, after being out for 18 years, but I wanted to do something that mattered and something to be proud of.
I still struggle to stay within the Army standards and I use SP to help guide me and make me be accountable.
This is a great site.

Welcome aboard. We're happy to help but you're in the driver's seat!
That being said. This is a great group. Some are quiet but there is a core group that is committed and involved here. Show up and participate in the basics like Spin The Wheel and the weekly weigh in and you'll get some momentum.
