Pics I can do - I just bought a new camera on Thursday, so I will have to get it out tomorrow. It was a good day indeed. It is beautiful. Now for some dinner, and chilling out :)

Oh man! Now I want pictures!! Vancouver is a place I want to go. I've been to Seattle a few times now but haven't made it further north...yet. Whistler sounds like snowville to me. Cowabonga Since I can't go to the snow right now I think I am going to clean out my snow clothes drawers and piles and make sure I'm ready for the next trip!

Since they were not looking at getting Reno under control until late today at the earliest, we flew to Vancouver, and am sitting at Whistler right now eating brunch in our hotel room. It is my first time at Whistler this year. I don't know when they opened as I don't track that, but we looked the resorts we have passes to, followed the powder, and here we are! :) It is going to be a good day.

Decisions, decisions. Where to ski where to ski? If you have to be back on the coast by Monday according to my yahoo ski and snow report Mammoth has 5 lifts open...if you didn't have to time limitation Whistler looks like the one with a little bit of new snow.

@ALFA_SUNSHINE - I would normally drive up as well, but I am in Colorado right now, so fly is what it shall be. It ought to be interesting though either way, as there are two storms going through northern Utah right now. I might have to jump south, and bypass Tahoe completely to ensure I am back in town on time. No worries though :)

I heard it first from you about the fire Jen. With the weather coming in it should be out pretty soon I hope. Time for some new snow!! I always drive. It's 8 hours of road trip music and fun stopping places. Enjoy the view!!

I decided to work on my writing today. I am thinking of flying out to Heavenly early tomorrow morning, as they are no open, and looking pretty good. The only problem...how about devastating wild fire in Reno (where I usually fly into). I am keeping my eyes open to see, as it has grown from 400 acres to 2000 acres today and only started this morning. Either way, I will be back in Malibu by Monday, and looking towards Thanksgiving weekend :)

SWEET!! Keep 'em coming JRSMITH775 Seize the season man!! And thanks for sharing. Don't stress about it at all...post when you can. I love to hear about it and I'm sure everyone else does too! Perhaps some others will join in.


I raised my son going to Heavenly and putting him in the ski school from age 5-12. He's a great snow boarder. But I should have taken him to other places early cause now he doesn't like the idea of anywhere else. He's 18 now and Lord willing we will have a good trip or 2 this season.

Sorry it has been a couple of days, as far as where I ski, here it goes:

1) I have an Epic Pass, so that allows me to go to Arapaho Basin, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone, Vail, Heavenly, and North Star (Tahoe)
2) I have a pass for Telluride
3) My brother and I go to Aspen at least a half a dozen times per year
4) Every once in a while I will go to the following, as I follow the powder: Wolf Creek, Monarch, and Kendal
5) I have a pass at Whistler
6) I have a pass for Lake Louise (Banff area)

I think I have listed everyone. On to the report.

As far as reports go thus far. Breckenridge is not that good right now, as they have had some fresh powder to put on top of the man made, but it is still pretty weak.

Wolf Creek has already gotten over 100 inches this year, but I have only been there once. Foolish on my part, as it would have been a better investment of my time than Breckenridge for opening weekend.

I understand that some people go to their local ski resort, but living in SoCal, I really follow the fresh powder. I have a job where I only work three days a week, and I am on sabbatical for the next few months, so that is why I am able to do this. For individuals that only have the weekends to work with, I understand that there are limited opportunities to chase the best runs at the time.

Anyway, I will be happy to put something out here each weekend, and as I have information (aka am making my decision as to where I am going to go, and why).

As for this weekend, it is looking like weak bases in Summit County (CO) will get some much needed fresh snow. Fingers crossed, as I am relying on the weather report, and we all know how wrong they usually are. :) Vail opens in about 37 minutes, and I am sitting in Breckenridge thinking about 13 inches of manmade vs. working on my writing. We shall see.

I wish I could get out and ski that often. That's wonderful. We usually go a few times a year. Planning a Mammoth trip in January. We'll live vicariously through you!

JRSMITH775 : sweet. Skiing 3-4 times a month sounds heavenly. Can you give us some reports? Next best thing to being there...I will be lucky to go 2-3 times before the snow within an 8 hour radius falls and melts.

I live in Southern California as well. I ski multiple areas, but not Big Bear or Mammoth. I ski 3-4 times per month, and already have 6 sessions under my belt this season. As far as my knees go, I do not have weight to loose, nor do I have knee problems - sorry. I am a huge fan of safe skiing and good form to prevent injury though :)

losing weight and getting fitter has made a huge difference to my skiing ( as well as my health!)
I ski in France, would love to try america/canada but it's a long way away!

I mostly have skied Heavenly at Lake Tahoe (trip planned for January). I can say that I have had better years than others when it come to fitness. I'm excited for this year because I am pretty fit. The good thing about Heavenly is even on the years when I wasn't as fit there is always a great view of the lake.

Hi Everyone! So glad to find fellow skiers that are trying to loose weight also! I live in Southern California, so we mainly ski Mammoth and Big Bear. Having all this extra weight on me really is taking a toll on my skiing. I don't feel comfortable skiing and it really does a number on my knees. I had wanted to loose weight before ski season this year, but as usual I kept putting it off and now it's here. I'm a timid skier to begin with and with this extra weight it makes me even more afraid. Anybody out there feel the same?
