Verbalizing what we want change is very great beginning.
I love to cook too but like you I am doing a lot of modification of old recipes to healthy ones. My problem was that I also like to eat while I am cooking. I have replaced this by doing exercise while cooking. Instead of sitting at the kitchen table I run to basement and do a few ST exercises. I have also learned to cook large batches and freeze them in small portions so when I come home late I have some thing quick that is healthy instead of reaching for bread.
For exercise, you are doing it, just add in ST when you have some time even sitting on your desk. Check out sparkspeople videos.
