Welcome to the team. After starting on this site almost 3 years ago and losing over 60 lbs my knee pain has improved tremendously! I still have a little pain in my right knee but over all it is so much better!

Hiya ladies! I just turned the big 5-0 last Friday, and am kinda glad to leave the 40's behind, it was a weird decade, ha!

I live in Northern Virginia, work at UPS, and will finish my MBA this coming December. So you can see I stay busy...but I don't get to the gym as often as I should. Must work on that a LOT harder!! I had my 2nd knee surgery last September, and I'm determined to have it be my LAST one!!!

Hi SHERYLDS, glad to see you here! I know what you mean about portion control, that was quite an eye opener for me. Tracking my food really helps a lot.

Hi Everyone. I'm a Jersey gal who's got a long way to go. It's amazing how smart I've always been about everything but taking care of myself. My 2 biggest issues are portion sizes and exercise. I know what I should eat, but now I'm really getting fanatical about using a food journal. It's the only thing that keeps me honest with myself. And when it comes to exercise, I'm a flunky. So I think it's time to get the salsa music going, and start shaking things up.......
Health and Success to all

YAY!! Just the Team I was looking for. I'm looking for support from ladies who have been or are where I am, at that special time in their life when NOTHING is the same as it used to be when it comes to my body!!.

I started WW (for the 2nd time) back in January of 2007 and after a 2 year struggle and almost 60 pounds later, I came within 2 pounds of my goal, most of which was lost without the benefit of much exercise. Then I decided I would start a regular work out routine and, much to my surprise, I gained weight!!! No matter how hard I tried, the weight just kept creeping back and now, over the last year, I've gained back 20 pounds emoticon . It finally hit me, I needed to quit trying to diet, and just learn new eating habbits. I have been using the tracker since I joined a couple of weeks ago and it has been a real eye opener. No wonder I wasn't losing any more! That handful of gummy bears I grabbed every time I walked by the dish really adds up (But they're Fat Free!!!, lol). And don't even get me started on portion control! I could out eat my husband any day.

Anyway, I'm hoping to make some new friends in this group that will help encourage me and maybe in return I can encourage them.

emoticon

You have failed only when you quit trying. Until then, you're still in the act of progression. So, never quit trying and you'll never be a failure.

This is a very supportive team. I look forward to applauding you as you reach those goals!

Hi everyone,

My name is Sonia and I'm new this team. I turned 50 this year. I'm a mother of 3, all grown up and living on their own. I also have 5 grandchildren. I don't feel 50, but sometimes I feel 100.

I got sick 2 years ago and I gain 28lbs on top of the 30 I had to loose. I'm trying again.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Ladies! My name is Cathy and I have belonged to Sparkpeople for 3 or 4 years now. Last year I turned 50 and gained 20 lbs of my 80 lb weight loss. I had gotten my weight down to 180 and was so proud of myself. Then last year the pounds started creeping up on me. I keep my calories around 1500 everyday. I drank my water... but what changed was my exercise routine. I was only exercising maybe 3 days a week and I wasn't really sticking to my strength training routine. When I did exercise it was usually cardio. I have gone back to my original routine of Strength training 2 times a week and cardio 3 - 4 times a week.I am faithfully tracking my daily nutrition and am hoping to see the weight coming off again soon. I appreciate any support or advice from anyone having the same problems.

SHANA2007:

Katie gave you some good ideas.

Be sure you use nutrition and fitness trackers, drink eight to twelve cups of water daily, and aim for eight hours of sleep nightly.

By tracking your food on the nutrition tracker, you'll not only be to confirm you're staying within the calories, carbs, fats, and proteins ranges, you'll find it holding you more acountable. (There's something about having to log foods that you know you should have avoided.)

The journey to a healthier lifestyle will take time. It's not only stopping the bad habits, but forming new and better habits. Each time you eat something you shouldn't, make a note on the tracker of what you could do differently the next time; then, when the next time comes around (and, it will), try applying what you wrote.

SHANA, I am a SAHM. We have an amazing amount of freedom and the luxury of time! I still homeschool my 11yo, so that adds a lot of structure to my day. That is the great enemy, I think. You can easily waste a lot of time. Schedule your day and be sure to include your exercise session, time to plan and cook amazing, healthy meals and things that you enjoy doing. I am always learning a new skill or studying. It keeps me growing.
Find a support group. I am an introvert and don't need a lot of interaction, but some people really do. I have an amazing Bible study group, as well as other homeschooling moms in my ISP.
Rejoice that you are able to be home for a season! Many women would trade places with you in an instant.
This time is a wonderful gift! emoticon Feel free to contact me if I can help.

emoticon hi I am back. I am now 52 and over the past one year and half, I went back to work and job stress made me gain 25 lbs. I am truly upset.
So I am back again, on another challenge to lose it. My doctor isn't too pleased. I can't even wear nice pants, can't button it, which is pretty bad. I was fired from my job on 12/18 09. what a nice christmas present.... the christian church / school was upset because they were pressuring me to be baptized at the school. I chose to say no, and for that they ganged up on me, church members who had chidren in my first grade class, grumbled to the admin without any knowlegde to me that anything was wrong, and got me fired.... the last day of school before christmas vacation. But thats okay.. I am healing. I have been a teacher for 28years... so what do I care..... They can never take my degree and experience away. They just stomped on my self esteem... emoticon

Hello ladies,
I'm Amy, and I just joined Sparkpeople 2 weeks ago. It's just what I've been looking for!
In April, I celebrate my 20th anniversary of turning 30 - or is it my 30th anniversary of turning 20? Since I'm already in my 50th year on the planet, I figured this must be the place to hang with all you foxy cougars.
I have a bunch of mini-goals I'm aiming for:
• get my cholesterol under 200 so my doc will stop bugging me to go on meds.
• get my blood pressure lower (to normal) so I can stop the meds I'm on now.
• get near 200 lbs. by my birthday April 8th (that's only 11 weeks away, so maybe not)
• get into my wedding dress by our 10th anniversary on Sept. 16th

I look forward to meeting you all. Any other late-bloomer moms out there? I had my one and only DD in December 2001 - at age 41.

You must do the thing you think you cannot do.

I'm a newbie, new to SP (1/2/10), new to blogging (1/10/10) and new to your team today.

I've lost weight before (in my 40s) ant that time it seemed that every day or two I saw that scale shift to the left.

Now, using the same techniques with (I think)the same voracity, I rarely see then needle move.

I've decided now, that moving the scale isn't the goal. Now the goal is to stick with the program. . .Log my food and activity and let the chips (not potato, mind you) fall where they may.

Looking forward to hearing what other 50+ women have learned in their journeys.

what have you done today to make yourself proud?

Hi LADYMAR1, you can add changes very slowly here, in fact that is what Spark People encourages you to do. It is easier to maintain a few small changes than to try and change everything at once. Welcome to the team, we're glad you are here.

Hi. I am 58 and of course I need to lose weight. I have back problems and it is causing problems with my legs. I am a Nana to 6 beautiful babies, and I want to be around to see them grow. I won't lie I need encouragement and a slow start with exercise because of my back and legs.
I am glad I joined SP, and I am glad to be here.

Hi Jerseygirl1950 and Debster14, glad to have you all here! Jerseygirl, age is just a number. A very good friend of mine in her 80s told me that even though her body looked old, in her mind lived an 18 year old. I hold that thought all the time!

Hi, my name is Janet, and I joined today because I like how this team is actively pursuing their goals. I am 57, and live in Northern California. I have been a member of SP since Nov. 2007, and was not really active until January 2008. I can't wait to get to know all of you!

Hello, I'm Margaret,I am 56 and live in Australia.

I joined SP 6 weeks ago and have already lost 8kgs (17.6 lbs)and I feel fantastic.

I have only just posted my first blog which is about my life from 14-56. I have also posted some pictures on my SparkPage which are meant to be viewed in conjunction with the blog if anyone is interested.

SP is such a wonderful site and I look forward to meeting everyone on this team.

Hi DAKOTAABLUE, welcome to the team. My mom is in Texas with my brother, San Antonio. I get to laugh a bit now because it has been so cold (at least to them). I am in the Chicago area and we are in a snowy deep freeze!

I am sure there is a way to get the book into your Spark Points. I posted a question in the Site/Technical Help message board to see if I can find the answer for you. I will let you know when I hear.

Hi, I am from Montana. We are what you call Snow-Birds. We go south for the winter. We are in Texas now and going to Arizona in a couple of weeks for the rest of the winter. Will head home around April. My husband has joined Sparks also. We both have between 45 & 50 lbs. to loose. We will try to do it together. The exercise is the hardest for us. Not sure how to tackle that. Walking is what we can both do, so guess we will start there. Bought the book at Wal-mart yesterday. How do I get that into my Spark Points? I will try and check in every day.

Frannie, I know what you mean. I just realized I had passed the one-year with no cycles mark when I transferred all of my information to my new calendar! I had noticed that my mood swings had disappeared.....so grateful that the black days are gone. Thanks for the welcome.

Hi everyone! Another newbie here from south Georgia. Glad to find some other gracefully aging ladies on the site, saw a lady on the Today Show yesterday that apparently is a member of SparkPeople and mentioned the site. Forgive me if I'm not posting in the right place. I consider myself somewhat computer literate, but I'm not sure where I am on the site. Looking forward to many happy days here!

I am back after a few years. I need to lose about 25 pounds. I lost 35 several years ago and have gained 25 back. I need to get healthy as I will be turning 60 in September and want to be feeling good and healthy.

Was here regularly in 2007 and did well. Lost track and been an on and off dieter for 2 years. Moved home from Romania 2008 after 8 years out there. Big changes ever since but now things have settled life is less complicated. Penalty of not paying attention is to be back where I started with some extra for good measure. Got to get serious again and trying to be motivated by the knowledge I did it once and I can do it again.

Welcome. I am new to the site also and need to lose about 15 lbs. I'm single but have a significant other for over 30 years. He has been ill and I find it hard finding time to workout, but i am going to try harder this year to take care of me. That was why I joined in. Good luck

Hi I'm new to the 50+ Females team. I want to take off 20 pounds and shape up. I am 55, married with 4 children (all grown) and 6 grandchildren with 2 more on the way in 2010. I would like to get my body in the best shape possible for this stage of my life, and keep it that way! I too am still trying to navigate the site. There is so much to read and learn.

Hello. I'm new, and I'm still trying to figure out the web site...so I'll be coming up to speed slowly I suspect! I've gained weight in the last year or two, some because of menopause, some because of stress, some because I got lazy. I've had success with weight loss in the past, never long-term however, and I'd really like to get on top of this in 2010.

Yes I am new to 50 +. I am 51 and was fit as can be on my 50th birthday. My boyfriend became seriously ill and I have become his caretaker and kind of lost sight of taking care of me. To top it off I went into menopause around the time he became ill and the pounds have been adding up. Everyone tells me that the weight you gain from menopause is really hard to get rid of. I pray I can drop some of it
