Hello everyone! I am 52, and have 55 lbs to lose. I have always been active, but since age 45 have struggled with keeping the weight off. I have a 30 yr old, 28 yr old, and a 9 yr old daughter. My husband is a competetive runner, so it's easy to stay active as a family with an active husband.

Hello. I am 51 and I just celebrated my 30 year wedding anniversary; he is a wonderful man and is my rock. I have two sons, one daughter, four grandsons and two granddaughters. I found the SP web site two weeks ago quite by accident and I joined right then and there. It is wonderful motivation and I am confident that this site, along with all the great tidbits from the members, will help me lose my 20+ lbs! I love it!

Welcome to all the newbies. Exercise is really a necessity for me because last year I was diagnosed with osteoporosis so I do the same as Grace walk every day and 5-6 times a week do also weights. I can't afford to lose any more bone density from my skeleton over the next 30 years or so.emoticon

I'm 50 years old, married 18 years with a 17-year-old daughter. I have definitely not put myself first over the years and have slowly gained about 45 pounds over the 18 years. I really do hate exercising but I realize that it's something I'm going to have to do to lose this excess weight. I'm so glad there are others like myself out there and that we can support each other through our triumphs!!

Oh, well, at least you guys can't see me BLUSH!emoticon

But I'm new to this site and am really looking forward to losing more weight (down about 70 lbs from my top weight of 265 right now), getting into really great physical condition (I love cycling but am sort of afraid of strength training although I was taking a Pilates class last year and loved it but our teacher moved away). Anyway, I'm looking forward to meeting you guys!

Hi Everyone, I am a 59 year old Mom to 2 wonderful boys and a Grammy to 3 lovely grandchildren. Two boys 14 and 4 and a girl 8. I have just begun eating a vegan diet for several reasons. Firstly because I don't want to take part in the suffering of animals to feed me anymore, and secondly because I have Diabetes, High blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease ( I've already had to have a stent inserted), and am extremely overweight. Right now I still need to lose 90 pounds. I've been eating vegan now for about 3 weeks and have lost 18 pounds already. I'm hoping that eating this way will help get my cholesterol down and also control my diabetes because of all the whole foods. I seem to have the weight loss part down pretty good right now. I am happy with the foods I am eating and using the food tracker is an excellent tool.

I guess what I need now is motivation to get moving, exercsing and strength training. I see that this team is pretty active in this area and thought I'd give it a shot. Wish me luck.

Greetings from wild and wonderful West Virginia. I'm Carol, a retired Grammy to 2 deeelightful Grandbabes and Mom to 2 grownup joys as well. We are retired Air Force,having lived throughout the world, to include Berlin, Germany, and Washington DC.

Our retirement life is filled with great times, our little country chapel family, golfing, jewelry making, crocheting, and lots of efforts to improve in mind, body and Spirit.

I've been ill and off of SP, so in coming back, I thought I would check out other teams to call home. I'm on the mend and back into my walking/dancing. My favorite thing is to put on a video concert and rock out! I wear my ped every day and hope I can find some motivation in joining any exercise challenges you might have going on.

I'm off to check out this beautiful site....Just wanted to say hello and get started in making new friends!!

Hello Ladies,

Just join SP again. Just turned the big 50 and would like to get healthier this year. That means for me to lose about 40lbs. Not trying to be skinny, just more trim and fit.

I am married 26 years, have a married Step-son 31 and a daughter 17, who has one more year of high school left. It is time for me know. They are mostly self sufficient and I need to focus on myself. I would like to get control of my eating and start regular exercise, so when I turn around and the nest is completely empty I am able to handle it better.

I have taken all these years to raise good adults and now the focus needs to be on me. Why is it that we put ourselves last on the list. I want to move right to the top and say "IT'S MY TURN"

Thanks for listening to my rant.

I've been with SP 3 weeks, but just joined this group. Now that I kinda know my way around the site, I wanted to pick some groups that had more in common with me. So:

I'm 59 and am trying to lose 40 more pounds in order to lower my BP and cholesterol levels. (I lost 10 pounds before I found SP.) So far so good. I am losing about 1 1/2 - 2 pounds per week. So far no problems with the calorie counting and I exercise at the gym. I've lost and then gained weight before, but this time I am hoping to keep it off. I have been going to the gym on a regular basis (3-4 days a week) for over a year, so I've got the exercise part down. I just need to conquer the food part. I feel like I have gone back to school because I keep reading everything I can get my hands on, studying about good nutrition. I finally have a mantra that I keep repeating to myself when I eat: "If it doesn't fuel your body, don't put it in your mouth!" I am looking forward to talking to all of you and hope you will help me stay on the wagon.

We all get 24 hours a day-how are YOU going to use them?

I will not give myself permission to give up!!

I'm definitely on the plus side of 50, but feel younger! I've been with Sparkpeople since the end of February but although I've greatly increased my exercise, I'm not doing so well on the calorie cutting. It really IS harder to lose weight the older you are I guess!

Anyhow, I need help staying within my calorie range--I've never been able to lose any significant weight above 1200 calories. Aside from the obsession to do it quickly (apparently not gonna happen) I am busy with environmental work (land trusts), gardening, biking, kids (3 adults) and grandkids (2) and love to read.

Anybody out there need a buddy? I think I do.emoticon

My name is Christi. I live in Southeast Wisconsin.

I am the mother of 4 adults children (all of whom have left home); and the Grandmother of TEN!! :)

My hubby and I have only been married 5 years. We love to ride motorcycles; camp; cook; read; and this year, we will be starting our very first garden together! Should be fun to have FRESH veggies any time we want them!!

I have owned a home cleaning business for 2 1/2 years and work just 3 days a week. I have been the Secretary of a Christian Motorcycle Association Chapter for 4 years. I also bowl on a bowling league.

Looking forward to learning better eating habits and meeting new friends, here on SP!!!

Hi,

I'm 56 years old, happily married, with three grown children and 6 grand children, 5 boys one girl:)

I live in New Jersey, I work as a office manager full time and a martial artist (Aikido) part time.

I have a terrific life, except for my weight which is really starting to effect my life at this point.

I kind of snuck up on me. I've been thin most of my life, but the last five years or so I've been spreading to fit my office chair. I'm at a point now where it has to come off. I'm hoping this site will help me be more aware of what I'm putting in my mouth. Its funny because I'm still in shock when I see body in the mirror, its like what the *** happened to you!

Hi Everyone, My name is Liz, I'm from Michigan, have 4 adult children,9 grandchildren with another due the end of August. I have been a spark member since Feb. 2008 but just started really using the site. I have struggled with my weight all my life, highest being 292 and now I am at 173. Just recently lost 26 lbs. This time I need to get all the weight off. I want to be healthy enough to do fun things with my grand kids. I also have type II diabetes and am on my way off my meds. Hi Nena,

I have three children and am turning 55 4/10/09 and am also a redhead.
Nice to meet you.
Congrats on the guy. I have a good one as well, last 12 year.
My weight struggle has been on going for last 3 or so years, I believe our age and hormonal issues have a lot to do with it.
I am glad you are part of the team.

Hi, what a nice way to start the month! New introductions to find out who is who!
I love Spark and started in 2006. After reaching my goal of 140 I left for awhile thinking I could maintain on my own...not! Now I am back again with a new goal of 135, serves me right to have to loose another 5 ontop of the 15 I had gained! However I am finding this time to go much much slower but I am a redhead, thus very stubborn so I will get there.
I am 55, live in Wisconsin, married to a great guy for the past 21 years. I have three daughters and one step-son and 5 grandchildren. I found out that having grandchildren is so special that I decided to retire early from my job to be able become a full time Nena! Yep, it was my first Grandbaby that changed my name from Nana to Nena and it stuck!
I love to sew, knit on looms, and garden.
I am excited to keep reading this thread to learn about you'all.

Hi,

I am new to this team. First I want to thank all of the great women who have welcomed me. thanks to all. I live in Los
Angeles with my husband of 12 years. True love finally. Not perfect, but for sure "the one".
We have 3 boys, 18, 19 and 21 - from previous marriages.
I gained 12 pounds in the menopause, lost job combo and am quite uncomfortable with that.
I lost 5 pounds but gained it back recently. Unemployed for almost 6 months, not really helpful for self-esteem and all.
I am committed to getting back to regular exercise and eating well and losing 10 of the pounds. My goal is 128. I wish us all luck, health and happiness. I love spark people and you guys. emoticon

I'm Nancy. I've been a member for a couple of years, but got more active this past winter. I lost 65 lbs. with Weight Watchers. With the help of Spark and my WW meetings, I've kept it off for 2 years.

I'm a grandmother to 6 (grandchildren call me "Mongo" and a mom to 3. I've been happily married nearly 33 years.

Hi and I think this is a great idea on introducing ourselves. I live in SW. MO. have been a member of Spark since June 07. Married w/2 grown up kids and 4 grand kids, who are the light of my life. I work full time as a library assistant at a university in KS. Have been here for 6 yrs in May. We have 3 cats and 1 dog as part of the family.
I have lost about 50 lbs but am struggling to finish up this journey to a healthier lifestyle. I love SP.

Hi There... Happy April & Springtime!

I've been a member for quite a while... off & on. I'm trying to lose anything I can... basically around 40 pounds, then I'll be much happier with myself. I currently live in Prattville, Alabama, but am a "child of the world" = Army Brat. The teams I am a member of are: Old Hippies Losin' it, Montgomery Sparkers, Alabama, Fibro Friends and Fibro Reflections, and of course 50+ Females.

I'm a divorcée trying to make it on my own, and a "childless mother running the streets," since my daughters are all grown, married and live away from me now. I work full-time running a print shop... so I stay pretty busy and active... but not quite active enough. emoticon

Oh, I have one beautiful 3 year old grandson, whom I adore.

I love SparkPeople and have really enjoyed what I've learned from this team & website, as well as from everyone I've met here & the other teams. All the members from the teams I'm on have been simply fantastic, and I love & appreciate everyone. emoticon
