Hi and welcome. I don't have any experience in a marathon. Both my children have run them and I know they did a lot of training and then said it was all about focus. Good luck and let us know.

Welcome to PBL, SUZI, and all the best in your marathon. People I've talked to who've run their first say it was the hardest and the best thing they've ever done. More power to you!

Found this on the top of this page after posting my response:

Brave girl! My sister has done two AIDS marathons (washed out of the second one) and just started training for her third. I'm impressed...Sparkmail me with your AIDS marathon page and I'll put up a little donation.

As for advice, none coming from me, I'm afraid. But the training people will help you through it. Way to go!

Hi everyone! I'm new to this group as I've just recently signed up to run a marathon with the AIDS marathon people. I would really welcome ANY and all advice, although I'm also certain I'll get loads of advice from my coaches and more experienced teammates. Not only have I never run a marathon before, I've never run anything before. Until yesterday (first training run) longest I'd run was mile in jr high phys ed. I'm in better shape than I've ever been now (my average 3 mile time yesterday without getting unduly winded is rather scarily similar to my old huffing and puffing and falling over tired 1 mile time!) but this whole running thing is very new.

Anyone have anything to share to help a newbie runner should know to get across the finish line without hurting too much in the process?

I don't have time to do the things I can do, so it doesn't seem important to worry about the things I can't do.
