Aloha and welcome! I too am a huge Cathe fan!! I have almost all of her dvds - just got her latest series Low impact....Wow, totally awesome series! Highly recommend it.

There are so many great things about SP - what I have found to be most helpful are tracking my food and exercise, as well as posting on the boards. But the key for me has been to start small (as SP tells us) and build from there. I like to keep track of my "streaks" and pretty soon I find that I have incorporated another healthy lifestyle feature and it's second nature.

Good luck with your journey! And enjoy the trip! It's not just about the destination afterall.

Hello,

Just got back onto Spark People after a while of being away. Last time I didn't utilize the message boards or communities much, so hopefully this journey will be different from my last.

I am a former Marine who got out a couple of months after having my baby many years ago. I have been a stay at home mom since getting out and am a proudly serving in a different capacity as a military wife. I've been struggling to lose weight for quite some time now, my baby is now a teen. I have had health issues along the way that have made it a little difficult to lose weight, but let me not excuse myself by saying that. I also love to cook and enjoy learning to make new things for my family to try. (I LOVE southern cooking, but the breads, butter, and fatty meats aren't good for the waist line). My mistake was not keeping an eye on myself to keep things squared away in the weight department. Hopefully I can learn to take my favorite recipes and make them healthy so we can continue to enjoy food and not develop a negative relationship with it.

So, that leads me to where I am. I've tried losing weight by myself in so many different ways. I love to put my ipod on, lace up my sneakers, and be totally in my head and in the moment of the workout. While I still like my alone time during my workouts, I could try something different. I'm starting with just walking an hour or two 4 times a week this week. Next week I will incorporate weight lifting with my small dumbbells at home maybe on the days I don't do cardio or possibly a combination. (I love Cathe Friedrich dvd's...I'll be asking for lots of those for Christmas.) I've been reading on here that spark people who utilize the blogs are more likely to succeed than those who don't. Well, I'll try anything at this point. I look forward to meeting people who are just as eager to do well on their journey as I am.
