Yes. I've heard of it. I take my coffee without sugar, but I also like stevia for other things.

Hi everyone! I am sort of new- I started SparkPeople in April and now have gotten to the point that I can eat clean by myself without having to track it. I still track my food most days but am SO much better at making decisions about food. Clean eating is such key to me. I have lost a lot of the weight due to my eating habits. I also have cut sugar out (mostly) of my diet. I don't eat dessert or add sugar to cereal, fruit, etc. I love veggies and am now trying to eat for lower body fat and more muscle mass. I have already bloged about two of my favorite guilt and (simple) sugar free desserts, so check them out!

Good luck to everyone on this journey, it isn't easy to start, but one committed, you start to feel and look great!

I'd be in for a challenge, but a month without anything processed isn't something I'd sign up for. I've only been at this for a month or so and I'm ok with limited amounts of processed stuff. I'd go for shorter ones, but what if we did a streak thing? Maybe for every 5 days you go without we get a goodie or something.

That's a good idea for a challenge. I haven'y posted a challenge for a long time; simply because people never follow through. I end up being the only one posting after three days. lol
But I will post this...

HI SHEJANE666... I agree it would be a great challenge to go without processed food for a day. Might be fun to try for a month. Of course I can say that because I have done this. With the exception of cheeses (I don't make my own, yet).

What I like about whole, fresh foods (organic) is that you don't have a label to read... the ingredients list is minimum and the food tastes so much better. Of course if the food isn't organic, there may be some unwanted and unacknowledged ingredients, like chemicals.

Great idea

I would like to suggest that a great team goal be to have no packaged foods for the entire day.
As a fairly new clean eater this would be a good reminder. Anyone agree?

Hi, I'm new here. I am not totally sold on total clean eating, but for the most part I agree with it and love the idea of removing chemicals and garbage from what I eat. And I love the ideas here.

As far as Stevia, I love it. I found a brand that is perfect, the only problem is that online it costs $10 for 75 packets. I found it at Ocean State Job Lot for $2.50. I think I'm going to see if there's anymore this weekend. They don't consistently carry anything, though. It's called SOOOO Sweet. The filler in it is fiber, whereas most other brands it's some form of dextrin.

Greetings,

I just joined and am ready to get into this clean eating thing. Recently, went primal in my lifestyle so am cutting out (trying to) carbs, eating whole raw foods, healthy meats and fats. I do use buckwheat groats once in a while for my pancakes. I grind my own and then add ground flax seeds. I had been using agave nectar, but after reading your post FIT_ARTIST, I will give that up.

I have coconut oil, coconut flour, coconut milk but have never heard of coconut nectar. Thanks for the heads up and I will be on the look out for that. So, Stevia, is still considered safe?

Agave is simply a highly processed form of sugar. It's very high glycemic (some will disagree), and to me it is about on par with high fructose corn syrup.
Honey, molasses and maple syrup are better choices, but really it's all mostly empty calories and a lot of carbs.
If I need to sweeten I usually use stevia. Or coconut nectar for recipes where "syrup" is needed like in granola bars or something...

Hi Y'All!

I'm new to "clean eating", having just been introduced by a friend to the magazine of the same name, and I'm getting an education by just reading labels with new eyes. I want to share two product thoughts:

I was a sugar girl, having grown up in the south with sweet tea! Before clean eating, I had already made successful transition to Splenda, then heard that was bad, so transitioned to Agave, then heard THAT was bad! I have finally switched to TRUVIA (Stevia), and have had no trouble at all getting used to it, particularly in dishes where it is stirred in rather than sprinkled on something. (But now, I may quit reading about sweetening things, just in case something bad comes out about this!)

I've also learned that "woven wheat crackers" are not all created equal. I was surprised, while comparison shopping, to find that Kashi version has several unpronouncable ingredients, but the good ole fashioned Reduced Fat TRISCUITS are clean and simple. Yay!

I'd like to suggest a "healthy substitions" thread. Possibly a sticky topic?? Maybe this already exists? I'm new here and wanting to know some suggestions. Specifically right now I'm looking for a substition for sour cream. Or is sour cream clean already?

I think if you get your heartrate up it could be. It also depends on how much you already exercise. If you never exercise, then sure! Call it a workout! But, if you do Hi-impact aerobics everyday for an hour, I would think that this would not be chgallenging enough to consider a workout. It's your call...

Hi, BECCIE! I was sort of trying to stay away from weighing in on this team, and keep the focus more on clean eating and exchanging recipes. I also am sort of wary of the scale these days! LOL!
I weigh myself everyday, more out of curiosity... I use digital fat calipers to actually track progress.

If you want we could have some sort of PROGRESS REPORT. Then team members could track their progress in any way they wish... how would that be.
I will post a new thread for that. OK?

We don't have a weigh in & measurement form. Monday's are my scale day. Just to keep me on my toes after the weekends unscheduled days.

There are some GREAT recipes in the Team Cookbook! I do your stirfry quite often but I use tofu(I don't eat meat). Also, Boca and MorningStar have great packaged 'fake' meat-Burger Crumbles are really good!

Oh! I do this when I want something quick...

I take a protein, like shrimp or chicken breast, and quick fry in 1/2 - 1 tsp of olive oil. Then I add 1 - 1 1/2 cups of sliced peppers (I buy pre-cut frozen peppers and onion mix; fajita blend it's called)and add a tsp of minced garlic (I buy mine in a jar)
That's it! If it's a low carb day, I eat it like that. If it's a high carb day I eat it in a sprouted grain or whole grain tortilla.

Hmmm... I will try to think of some more QUICK recipes. Also... if you look through the team cookbook. I think you can do an advanced search on Spark Recipes and look for recipes that take under a certain amount of time to prepare.
